Upgrade system from iso image

Hi there, due the bandwith's situation in my country, download base image (+60) each month is almost imposible. There is any way to upgrade from a cd image? Arch's .iso are copied from other persons via pendrives. Could I roll the base system to "pristine", I mean, make a .tar.xz from the syystem and use that packgages for upgrade my system then?

If you're going to argue with every suggestion made, why bother posting in the first place? English doesn't appear to be your native language, so there seems to be a communication gap here. We're trying to help, but you refuse to listen, keep repeating yourself (without clarifying anything) and expect to be spoon-fed the information you seek.

That's fine, no one is making you use Arch. You have the freedom to choose whatever distribution suits you best. As you seem to have worked out, Arch doesn't seem to be suitable for your situation. This doesn't mean Arch has a problem or is broken, it just means it's not suitable for you. I'm sorry if you feel slighted by this.

  • RESTORE SYSTEM FROM DISK IMAGE

    Hi people,
I was wandering if anyone could help me with this little thing. I hate Time Machine, so that's not a viable solution for my inquiry. What I want to do is migrate my whole SL system from my old MacBook to my new one. Is it possible to create a Disk Image of my old MacBook's Hard Drive with Disk Utility or any other software and then restore SL from it in my new one?
*I know many of you may think TM is great, but I don't like it, so PLEASE spare me from lectures on why I should use it. I know I sound harsh, but every time I post something like this ten out of every eleven responses are about that.
*PLEASE, I BEG you, don't inquire upon why I want to do it this way. Again, I sound mean, but most of the responses I get are usually a pile of uselessness that just takes up space and doesn't help.
Thanks a lot for your time,
    ThePhazonMonkey

Thomas is right. Restoring an older Mac's "whole SL system" (which I take to mean the entire contents of its startup disk) to a different one is a bad idea, whether you do it with a disk image, clone, or that app you hate so much.
In the first place, there is no guarantee that the OS version on an older Mac will have all the files needed to support the newest ones, so all you may get for your efforts is a new Mac that won't boot at all or kernel panics soon afterwards.
In the second, there is no guarantee that all the user & system settings from one Mac will be compatible with those of another. The OS will do its best to compensate for this, for instance by using defaults when the other Mac's settings are invalid or incompatible, but the process is not foolproof & you may experience instabilities or unexpected behavior that will be hard to track down & remedy.
Do as Thomas suggests & use Migration Assistant, or better yet use Setup Assistant on the first startup of a new Mac to avoid any problems with duplicate user account names. (You cannot merge two existing user accounts with any automated software because each has its own set of home folder items that will conflict with the other's, so you must manually choose which ones to use with the account you want to keep.)

  • How to upgrade system from serial communication to parallel communication

    Hi,
I am working on Lab VIEW 8.5.In my project I am using ADAM cards(7) for analog/digital inputs/outputs. Communication is done via RS 232 serial cable. Right now my system is working fine, but if i want to make it more fast i will need to use parallel communication right? Because Simultaneous inputs and outputs are processed. How much my communication file will change? Which card i should use?
How to upgrade system? On which factors it depends or it affects? I need guide lines.

    Hi
In your setup you have a ADAM 4250 RS232/485 repeater talking with 7 instruments in a network. Each instrument have a unique address, and you can only address 1 instrument at a time. If you need more speed you have to insert more ADAM 4250 units in your system and more RS232 ports on the PC. Identical ADAM instruments may receive commands over the same communication line, but transmit data on a unique communication line. You can not use the parallel port in your setup at all. This is not a Labview problem but a hardware problem. If speed is critical maybe the Ethernet I/O Modules: ADAM-6000 series are better for your setup
Besides which, my opinion is that Express VIs Carthage must be destroyed deleted

  • Unable to boot on Mac Mini from DVD burned from .iso image

I'm following the Beginner's Guide to try and install Arch on a Mac Mini "Late 2009".
I have downloaded archlinux-2014.10.01-dual.iso and associated .sig, and have verified it using the gpg2 command described in the guide (including the link to http://sparewotw.wordpress.com/2012/10/ … -sig-file/ which gave some assurance that the ambiguous answer produced by gpg2 was in fact legitimate).
I then used OSX's Disk Utility to burn the .iso file to a blank DVD. After verifying the burn, it ejected the disk.
When I re-inserted it, I received a message that the disk was unmountable, giving me the option to Ignore or Eject. I chose Ignore. Then I went to the System Preferences > Startup Disk, to see if it would at least appear there as an option, but it didn't.
(I should mention that I also burned the same file to another disk using a Windows machine, and when I inserted it into the Mac I got the same message, so I don't think it's corrupted media. (Bad reader, perhaps? eek.) )
That's where I stand. There are so many variables at play here (many of them Apple-induced, I think) that I've been unable to find a solution that fits my situation. Could someone please provide suggestions / pointers / answer?
    Thanks,
    Chap

Scimmia wrote:Ignore what OSX tells you, just try booting from it: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1533
Exactly right. Holding the Option key caused a display of various bootable OSes, including the one I had just burned from the Mac using hdiutil (weirdly entitled "windows"). I selected it, and it booted. I now have a console. Problem solved. Thanks.
UPDATE: note that this boot disk *cannot* be seen or selected via the OSX System Preference > Startup Disk panel. Holding the Option key during startup seems to be the only way to select it.

  • Upgrading System from 10.3.9 to 10.4.8

I must admit tha I have been negligent in staying on top of system software upgrades. I now have 10.3.9 and need to upgrade to at least 10.4.8 to be able to install Adobe CS3.
All I see in the Apple store is OS X10.5, which needs at least 500 mhz processor. My computer has 400mhz. I saw a couple of discussions about upgrading the processor. No one at my local Mac store has even heard of a G4... What should I do?

They've never heard of a G4? That's shocking, perhaps you shouldn't go there anymore :P.
OS X 10.5 requires at least an 867 MHz G4, unfortunately. You can upgrade to OS X Tiger (10.4) though (Just run software update after installation to get to 10.4.11).
You can find Tiger cheap on eBay or the likes, note you must buy the full retail version which looks like this:

  • On reinstalling system from recovery image

Just pondering what lenovo's advice is {regarding the ad/malware pre-installed on our new laptops, which by now we've all decontaminated} should a user suffer a catastrophic system failure and need to reinstall the system via recovery partition?I assume in this scenario, one would again reload our superfishy friend and have to start working on removal yet again?Does it seem reasonable to hope lenovo may feel moved to offer all affected/infected customers a clean recovery image?Say via a download link-or better still an image on removeable media?

If you do an OKR backup now then that backup is free of the adware. However, if you do a factory restore that adware is still there. But once you start and update Windows Defender it should also be removed.

  • New Hyper-V machine will not install guest OS from ISO image. Your PC ran into a problem.....

Thanks for any help in advance....
Here's the scenario.  I have a new Dell PE R630.  2012 Standard R2, fresh install.  All drivers and updates are installed.  When booting a newly created VM from an ISO of 2012 R2 Standard, attempting to install the OS on the VM,
I get the blue screen of "Your PC has run into a problem" screen.  It just loops over and over again.
I've tried Generation 1 VM and Generation 2 VM.  I've disabled Secure Boot in "Bios" on the Generation 2 VM.  I've tried different ISO files.  I've tried disabling all integration services.  I've tried just about every single
settings change there is to try with the same result.
In the Bios of the hardware R630, I checked that Virtualization is enabled.  I looked for any other settings that could be off, but don't see anything out of the ordinary.
I don't know what else to try. Thanks to anyone with input.
    -Josh

    Hi Sir,
I would suggest you to  :
    1. check if there is any power saving mode was enabled on R630 BIOS .
    2. check hyper-v host "Power Options" selected "High performance" .
    3. please try to disable " NUMA spanning " in hyper-v settings .
Then install OS for VM again .
In addition , please check hyper-v host's event log to see if there's any error recorded :
    "event viewer / applications and services logs / microsoft /windows / hyper-v* "
    Best Regards,

all of the filesystems, incl the data ones.

    Thanks for the tips.
I commented out the entries in /etc/vfstab, also had to remove the files /etc/lutab and /etc/lu/ICF.1
and then could create the Boot Environment from scratch.
I was also able to create another boot environment and copied into it,
but now I'm facing a different problem, error when trying to upgrade.

ERROR: Cannot unmount miniroot at </cdrom/Solaris_10/Tools/Boot>.I find it strange that this sparc machine is complaining about x86.miniroot.
BTW, the machine on which the DVD image is happens to be x86 running Sol 10.
I thought that wouldn't matter, as it is just NFS sharing a directory which has a DVD image.
    What am I doing wrong?
    Thanks.

  • Is Windows 8.1 system image backup an ISO image

I ran out of space on my windows partition, so I created a system image backup of that partition (windows 8.1) and then removed the partition via bootcamp assistant. My intent was to reinstall a new, resized partition and use the system image backup file that I had created as the ISO image in the process. It doesn't seem to be that easy. There is not one ISO file in the system image backup that was created. Thoughts?
Could I potentially just reinstall windows 8.1 then restore from that backup I created?

Yes, you can reinstall W8.1 on a larger partition. Was the System Image Backup created using Windows Backup/Restore? Be aware that if you restore a Windows System Image, it restores the old volume size. You will need to use a Linux Live CD with GParted to resize the old volume to occupy the new partition size.

  • How does one Create Bootable DVD from downloaded iso image in Windows?

I have a completely empty system I want to load Solaris Express on. I have access to web on a Windows XP machine and have downloaded the Solaris iso image. Using WindowsXP facilities simply copies the iso image as an intact iso image file and resulting disc is not bootable. Windows knowledge base very conveniently says that what happened to me is what happens. No obvious referral to how to do it....
    A) So for a non-Windows savy person who does not want to become Windows savy (That is why I downloaded Solaris!) Where is a set of instructions on how to (inside Windows XP) "extract" an iso image to a CD / DVD disk so it will be bootable?
    B) It sure would be nice if Solaris were able to be loaded onto a USB Flash drive and booted at will from any USB computer. Just plug it in and boot. Has this been done?
    C) Getting a physical disk by snail mail from Sun is very slow for me.... (3 weeks and still watching the mail box...)

You probably copied the .iso file as one single very large file onto media. Instead, you can use a utility such as Roxio DVD Creator or Nero (or freeware like cdrecord) , and select the option to burn an image that already exists. No special boot options are needed, because the ISO image already contains the boot information needed.
    B) It sure would be nice if Solaris were able to be loaded onto a USB Flash drive and booted at will from any USB computer. Just plug > it in and boot. Has this been done? With the Newboot project introduced into Solaris Express, I believe it is now possible. I'm not a USB expert, though, so cannot say for sure.

  • Installing iso images from CD

Very green user to Solaris, I use Linux. I've heard so much about Solaris that I wanted to try it. I burned the iso images to CD. Must I boot from CD to install or do something else?

  • Can I mount .iso images directly into my file system ?

    Hello,
I would like to install new Solaris releases as they are released, but I would rather not burn a set of 5 CDs for every new release just to update my system.
I heard there is an 'upgrade install' in the Solaris installer, that will try to preserve my existing system, while installing a new Solaris release. Is it working ?
I would like to download the .iso images, mount them during install, and use them like this to upgrade my system. Is it possible ?
    Thank you,
    Timothy Madden

Oh, I meant I have looked on the man pages and on docs.sun.com and I found both tools as you said. But I did not upgraded already, that's going to take a while.
First I need to make more room and I am still waiting answers on some other topic I started about physical disc slices.
Live Upgrade looks like a lot of work, there are many search results about it and I would simply go for mounting .iso images after booting the miniroot with GRUB and then starting the installer. I am not 100% sure I can start the installer without booting with a real CD-ROM, but I think it should work.
