Upgrade to Yosemite FCP or Photoshop Issues?

I have an IMac Mid 2010 27 inch/ 2.93 GHz Intel Core i7 with 16 GB 1333 MHz DDR3
I work a lot in Final Cut Pro X (Latest version) and in Photoshop CS5.  I am wondering if I should upgrade to Yosemite or wait for now. I heard it slows down some machines a lot and wondering if any users out there have advice for why I should or should not upgrade at this point. My system is working ok now, so don't wanna try to fix what ain't broke, unless there is good reason. Anyone with real life experience with these programs and Yosemite good or bad?

Is the Java you installed the Java version in my link (Java for OS X 2014-001)? There have many many postings about that pop-up arising only after upgrading to Yosemite and the pop-ups stopped when the version of Java I linked to was installed. One of the culprits causing the need for that version of Java was associated with membership in Facebook which preceded the Yosemite upgrade.
...I didn't install any software while the drive was plugged in to the computer. The software was installed after the drive was ejected and removed from the computer...
I was referring to software provided by the external drive's manufacturer installed on your boot drive. Is that what you're referring to?
...Whenever I try to reformat the drive I follow these steps: Go>Utilities>Disk Utility at this point nothing else shows up only the date/time and the option to add tags.
It sounds like you've never actually run Disk Utility. That's a program inside the Utilities Folder; open the folder and find Disk Utility. Run it. With the external connected, you can follow these instructions to partition the drive (which also formats it). Note the instructions for a GUID partition scheme. Also note that partitioning the drive will erase whatever is currently on it.

  • I recently upgraded to Yosemite, I now have issues with the length of time it takes to boot up my macbook.

I have recently upgraded to Yosemite, this took hours and hours......
Now I have problems with booting/starting my macbook, in that it starts with the apple icon and progress bar this seems to hang about half way and takes forever and a day.
Anyone else had this, any possible solutions......getting fed up now!!!!

Forever and a day can be over five minutes  (which I feel is way too long for a year old Mac).
Sometimes I restart it (five second press on on/off button) and this enables it to boot up fully, but still too long to boot up.

  • Lightroom & Photoshop Issues with Yosemite

Hi. I am new to this so please forgive and errors or omissions in the information I am about to give below:
Since upgrading to Yosemite 10.101, I have had issues with Photoshop not working properly. I am using the Creative Cloud versions of photoshop and they are up-to-date. The photoshop issue is that after an image is opened, the screen within the application turns completely black. You can't see the image although photoshop doesn't crash. I believe Adobe are looking into this issue.
I have installed the new Safari update tonight and now all of my images in Lightroom are pixelated. It was fine 10 minutes before the update which is when I was using it last.
I have a 2013 imac 2.9ghz intel core i5 with 1TB storage of which half is free
    8gb 1600 Mhz DDR3 Ram
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660M 512 MB
    I am trying to understand:
    - Is my iMac still powerful enough to run these programmes following the upgrades to the IOS and other apps (I would hope so because it isn't that old and cost a fortune!  )
    - Should I be raising the issue with Apple or Adobe in terms of not being able to use the Creative Cloud Photoshop and Lightroom? I am paying a monthly subscription for the packages but now can't use either of them due to the upgrades.
If anyone has any ideas/suggestions, I would be really appreciative. If I haven't explained the issue clearly enough, please let me know and I can try to elaborate!
    Thanks.

Recently my MacBookPro locked up on startup. Could not get past a certain point of progress bar. I had upgraded to Yosemite few weeks back, with no issues. I ended up doing a Recovery with Time Machine and I got all my apps, photos, documents, etc. back okay --- except I got error messages that my "registration for Photoshop (I use CS4 Extended) and Photo Mechanic are no longer working".  I worked on Photoshop first, and tried (several times) to fix it with their online help suggestions.  Nothing worked.
Is there a simpler way to "get my licenses/registrations back"???  I am also going to contact Camera Bits about the Photo Mechanic issues.   Thanks

Same problem and for months now. I haven't been able to find a solution, but I suspect that's because I don't know exactly what's wrong.

Photoshop does not use any external java it has it own "ScriptingSupport" plug-in, Some thitd Party plug-in and perhaps Adobe installer may use an external Java. I don't use a Mac, The latest Java I have on Windows is version 8 there are security issues in prior versions.

I have photoshop CS2 on a mac 10.6.8 OS. I want to upgrade to Yosemite OS (10.10). Will photoshop work on the new OS? Is there an upgrade available if needed?    Can I reload it  if needed?

Photoshop was the last version compiled for the PPC cpu, not Intel. 10.6.8 kept it going with the Rosetta emulator, gone since 10.7.
    So, no CS2 won't work under 10.10
CS6 (permanent license) or Lightroom and Photoshop | Adobe Creative Cloud Photography plan is the way to go.

Try creating a new user and see if the application runs in that user account.
If it works, then it is something in your user account (preferences, caches, login items) that is causing a conflict.
It it dies not, then you should remove the application using FCS Remover, and download a fresh copy from your purchases in the App Store.

  • Issues with Outlook 2011 since upgrading to Yosemite

    Hi,
I have reached out to Microsoft for this issue and they are saying it's an issue with Apple, so I don't really know who to reach out to.  I am running Yosemite 10.10.1 on my Macbook Pro.  I have had Microsoft Outlook 2011 for Mac installed on this computer since I purchased it in 2010.  Everything ran fine until I upgraded to Yosemite.  Other than everything running waaaay slower than it did before the upgrade (slower than my Dell, if that tells you anything), my main issue is that my AOL email account will not sync incoming messages correctly in Outlook.  It syncs both of my other email accounts just fine, but the AOL account is off.  It imports only some emails and then it also converts emails that I have read on my phone into blank "no subject", "no sender" messages.  The messages all still show just fine on aol.com and on my iphone.  Very weird.  I have completely uninstalled & reinstalled Microsoft Office, so I am assuming that it's not a problem with office, but with Yosemite.  Any one else have a similar problem?
Again, I know this might not be the best forum for this question, but my Apple friends are the smartest people I know, so I'm hoping someone out there can help me out (and Microsoft has NOT been helpful at all)!
    Thanks!

In late November I bought a second Macbook pro simply to have assured redundancy .  Friday AOL stopped working on both computers and then another client em using MS server also failed.
I can read mail but not send ..........  my guess is that it is the last Yosemite upgrade
I wonder how Timmy would feel if he launched in the Apple jet only to find that it's landing gear would not extend on landing because Gulfstream had sneaked into the hangar and modified the landing gear, knowing that it would fail.     if he can visualize how I feel having been unable to work on a number of critical problems over the weekend. I bought two mac's because I wanted superior performance, not because I wanted to be a software troubleshooter. Simply an inexcusable betrayal of Apples customers ..

  • How to move photos to external harddrive with Photoshop Elements Organiser 9 - Mac user. Upgrade to Yosemite?

I have managed to move a few photos using the organiser to an external harddrive as a trial but noticed that the photos are all stored straight onto the external harddrive and not kept in the subfolders that they are in on my harddrive. Is there a way to keep them in the subfolders - which is basically mostly folders indicating the date they were taken?
I also noticed that PSE 9 organiser is very slow - I have a lot of photos and a lot in raw - about 21000. Is it better to use LR to catalogue them?
Last question, has anyone else experienced problems since upgrading to Mavericks when using PSE9? Is there a fix? I read that upgrading to Yosemite has improved how PSE9 works but after my previous experience with upgrading to Mavericks I am not in a rush to upgrade.  Thanks

....partially resolved, in case anyone else with sim prob.....
....with Photoshop open you click "Open" (top left) and 'Finder' opens up in the window with 'Photos' listed.
Select which pic you want to edit (duplicates must be created first in 'Photos") and it opens in Photoshop Editor
It's all a bit messy but seems to work.
