Upgrade Xcode 3.2.4 to 4.2 on OS X 10.6.8 fails

I downloaded Xcode 4.2 for Snow Leopard (Disk Image) from Developer Downloads onto my MacBook running 10.6.8 with 2GB ram and 212GB free disk space.
I opened Xcode.mpkg directly from inside the .dmg and it seems fine until it gets to the actual "Installation" step.  It says "Preparing XCode" for a moment and then says "The installation failed."  Any suggestions for how to get 4.x Xcode on 10.6.8?
Below are some possibly useful screenshots.

Hmmmm I tried to rename /Developer but could not.  I tried to move /Developer to a new location but could not.  Perhaps it's simply a permissions issue.    I'll
sudo mv /Developer to /old/Developer
and see if it will make me a sandwich install correctly.
I was able to move /Developer to /old, but the install still failed in the same place.

    I wouldn't judge. I've been to Arch for a week, you know? But as said, it's VERY close to it.
    What I dislike after a week is makepkg not handling dependencies automatically (which would be overhead, so probably not appropriate).

    Don't actually need that as said ... I see no real benefit of having that other than not beeing a KDE user or having Gentoos useflags.

  • How to upgrade Xcode SDK 3.2.4 into 4.2

    Can any one explain how to upgrade Xcode SDK 3.2.4 into 4.2 ???

    There is no 'upgrade'.
    There is a transition guide and a user guide, tho:
    Xcode 4 Transition Guide
    Xcode 4 User Guide
         Open Your Xcode 3 Project in Xcode 4
    You simply download and install, accepting the defaults IF YOU DON'T INTEND ON KEEPING XCODE 3. Study the supplied readme for how to install into a custom location if you intend to have both Xcode 3 and Xcode 4 installs...I recommend keeping Xcode 3 around.

    Thank you for your advice, but I solved the problem. I had to place the Developer folder in the Trash. The Developer folder had the old XCode 3 inside of it.

  • Error 155007 (Path is not a working copy directory) after XCode upgrade

    Another person with an error caused after upgrading XCode to 3.2.3 from 3.1.3!
    My project now compiles and seems to run in the simulator, but the bottom of the project window shows the above error message as soon as I open the project. It also adds the helpful text "Description: '/Users/me/Documents/andsoon/ProjectName' is not a working copy" where the directory path is to an existing directory where my project files are stored and compiled from.
    So what's the problem, and where in the settings do I correct it?
    The indicated directory path is the path shown at the top of the Project Settings window, but it is not editable there. Its the directory I have always used. Does XCode somehow consider these are originals and I should be using a "working copy"?
    Has this error arisen because I am still trying to configure SCM with Subversion?

    Update:
    This error message is being generated by SCM. It appears in a warning dialog when I try and commit.
    I've still no idea of how to resolve it.

    When I try and install Xcode the installer takes me to the Custom Install on HD. It will only upgrade Xcode. System Tools, Unix Development Support and Mac OSX 10.3.9 Support are all greyed out. Only Web Objects can be selected. I have uninstalled the previous version with:

  • Upgrading to itunes 10.5.2 makes Xcode 4.2.1 crash.  How can I rollback iTunes to 10.5.1?

    I upgraded to OSX Lion last week and had to upgrade Xcode to 4.2.1 so it was compatible with the new OS.  Today I upgraded iTunes from 10.5.1 to 10.5.2.  Now every time I start Xcode it crashes. I tried reinstalling Xcode, that didn't help. Is there a way to rollback the iTunes update?

    Hi dkwestfall62,
    Is the error something like this:
    UNCAUGHT EXCEPTION (NSInternalInconsistencyException): Couldn't load plug-in 'com.apple.dt.IDE.IDEiPhoneSupport' while firing fault for extension 'Xcode.Device.iPhonePlaceholder'
    I'm almost in exactly the same situation as you except I upgraded iTunes first then went to Lion. If I get anywhere I'll let you know.

  • XCode upgrade breaks managedObjectModel

    ***1
            Apr 6, 2012 6:32 AM
    Well, this is embarrassing. Until late last night development was smooth. I had recently upgraded XCode to 4.3.2 (iPhone was complaining). Enjoying implementing and testing a couple of new features;compiling every now and then. When I thought, well, for a final run let's delete the app from the device and walk through the whole process before submitting it to Apple.
    Then it happened. Suddenly the app compiles straight into a wall complaining about the managedObjectModel being nil. Since I have not changed any code in regards the core-data, I have come to the conclusion that I have not the slightest clue what the problem is.
    Is it possible that the upgrade to XCode broke the CoreData version migration ? What can I do about it ?
    - (NSManagedObjectModel *)managedObjectModel
        if (__managedObjectModel != nil)
            return __managedObjectModel;
        NSURL *modelURL = [[NSBundle mainBundle] URLForResource:@"userinfo" withExtension:@"momd"];
        NSLog(@"Model URL %@" , modelURL);
        __managedObjectModel =[[NSManagedObjectModel alloc] initWithContentsOfURL:modelURL]  ;
        NSLog(@"Model Entities %@" , [__managedObjectModel entities]);
        return __managedObjectModel;
    Here is the output for the above code: As we can see, no managedObjectModel is assigned. How can this be ? It was working perfectly just the day before.
    Model URL file://localhost/var/mobile/Applications/[ID Info]/[App Name].app/userinfo.momd/
    2012-04-06 07:39:50.375 [App Name][861:707] Model Entities (null)

  • I can't upgrade from 10.10.2 to 10.10.3

    When I try to upgrade to 10.10.3 I am told 10.10.2 is already installed or in purchases it failed to download ... it doesn't even appear in upgrades
    Xcode 6.3 shows up but it fails to download. This seems to me to be a problem with app store, most likely on my end. So far I have deleted spotlight index and app store cache.
    I got  Xcode 6.3 dmg from dev center it took awhile to verify but it's working. I would rather have used the upgrade feature but it failed
    Am I doing something wrong or is xx3 unnecessary when I have xx2, is Xcode 6.3 unnecessary when I have 6.2?
    Or is my app store not working?

    The version of iTune for the Mac is not capable of running on an iPad.

  • MPMediaItemArtwork bug when upgrading xcode4 ios4 to xcode4.2 ios5

    Hi there,
    I have just upgraded xcode from 4 to 4.2 and implicitly from ios 4 to ios 5, after surrviving all of the provisioning problems and changes that i had to make in my code in order for it to build without problems, i noticed a very strange artifact that wasn't there before !
    When the code was running on xcode 4 ios 4 i could get the artwork image from a MPMediaItem for an album like so:
    MPMediaItemArtwork *artwork = [item valueForProperty: MPMediaItemPropertyArtwork];
    UIImage *source = [artwork imageWithSize:artworkSize];
    when artwork size is defined as (66,66)
    That code used to work, and after the upgrade some albums doesn't get the image, source is nil, although artwork pointer is not.
    I know it is related to the upgrade, but i can't figure it out, what have changed ???
    Thanks,
    Omry

    Hi there,
    Just wanted to give more information on the subject, i've noticed that the ipod app was missing from my new ios 5 s spring board and then i understood that there is a new app by the name of Music.
    So i decided to open it and see if i can see the album cover of the album that is failing in my code, the same cover that i could see in the ipod app before the upgrade, and guess what ?
    I can not see, it is missing from the music app too, so what is going on ?
    I opened iTunes and synched everything but it didn't solve the problem
