Upgraded to OS X Server, now users can't login

I recently went to the Apple Store and worked with the guys there to upgrade from Lion Server to Mountain Lion and then to OS X Server.
Following the upgrade I can see two users, administrator and a user. The user account will not login, it says "Cannot login, there is an error", also in the Server app, Users, the + - buttons are greyed out, so it is not possible to add accounts.
Help! Does anyone know how I can get around this.

That's a pain. Personally... but that's me personally... I never try to do major version upgrades to server products. I always do data export, or copy from old system, and do a clean install. If the hardware is old I get new hardware and do data copy to new, clean installed, system.
You didn't make clear in your first post whether the machine was a 'production' & dedicated server (not workstation doing double duty).
Do you have a (total) backup of old Lion server? Did you do a data export?
Can you SSH into the box?
Obviously at this time you should be giving up on trying to revive this installation and be focusing on getting data out then doing a clean install.

    I had a server that was working fine. It had one external IP address. I then added a second external (dedicated) IP address to the same ethernet port, by adding a second port in "Network Preferences" and manually typing in the IP configuration - just as I did for the original ethernet interface when the server was originally configured.
    The reason I added a second IP address is so that I could run Apache2 on port 80 on the new IP while continuing to run Apache1.3 on port 80 of the original IP.
    Of course now I've screwed up the reverse DNS and such and my users can't login over AFP (though SMB is ok). My initial IP has a properly configured reverse lookup, the new IP does not. The new IP is using the ISP's default domain name.
    In a situation like this, am I supposed to configure both IPs to resolve to the same computer name? myServer.company.com ? Or should each IP resolve differently..

    Reverse lookups (PTR records) shouldn't come into it. If users use a hostname to connect then all you will need is an A record to convert the hostname to an IP. If they use an IP to connect, then no DNS is accessed. So if you cannot connect directly using the IP address then it suggests firewall or config - test for open 548 port etc.

    I have had the same problem as yours on my Ipad after upgraded Procreate 2.01. My iOS is 7.04. I tried to find solution from internet for weeks. Fortunately, the problem was resolved a few minutes ago. It is very simple,
    1. Lunch outlook.com to confirm you can access hotmail mailbox. It means your account is Ok.
    2. Go to setting>Mail,Contacts,Calendars.Delete your hotmail account from your device.(my device is Ipad)
    3. Turn off your device, then turn on again.
    4. Go to setting>Mail,Contacts,Calendars and create your hotmail account by tap outlook.com. Be sure the incoming mail server is pop3.live.com.
    5. Waiting for validation.

    What a disaster and huge mistake.  Upgraded to Mountain Lion and now I can't run Autocad 2012 for Mac, any of my Adobe Creative suites software such as Photoshop, Illustrator.. and now I can't even do upgrades because Mountain Lion doesn't allow me to launch DMGs.  I've lost thousands of $'s in software, not to mention time, but most importantly now I can't even work!  I just tried to revert back to Snow Leopard by intalling it back in my hard drive and it won't let me.  I never used Time Machine.  Is there any way on earth I can revert back to my old operating software???  Please help.  And if you haven't upgraded yet and are thinking about it.  BEWARE - and don't do it.  I've been reading that Mountain Lion isn't working with Microsoft applications either.  Omy...I haven't even checked that. 
    and of course no one at Apple support can or will help me

    And please .... Start Backing Things Up, you could lose it all without one, work included.

    This is a real issue. I am a Help-desk in a global company and after changing a mail list name in Server end, users can't see the update in outlook client. Even I download Offline address book in full detail, user still can't see the change in her outlook.

    Would you please detail what you did by "changing a mail list name in Server end"? What is the mail list and what server?
    If you switch to Online Mode instead of Cached Exchange Mode, does the user see the change?

    If you want to sync it to the iPad from that Mac, you need to upgrade it to at least 10.5.8.
    If you want to copy the music to another Mac, you don't. Move the iTunes folder of the item in the Finder's sidebar over as you would any other folder. If you put it somewhere other than the Music folder, launch iTunes with the Option key held down and point it to that location.

    Could you save the output that the script startsap returns to a file and upload it somewhere. Also the startsap logs, the location of which you could see when you run the startsap script. You could use http://www.rapidshare.com/ to upload the files.

    DO you have any more information? Like did you lose your glasses, turn the monitor off or are you trying to look for the photos via the finder?
    If the latter is the case, The basic answer is to export them to a desktop folder and access them from there

    Ok. so we have this weird behavior and it's been driving us crazy for over a week. We have a lync 2013 deployment on a forest with several child domains.<o:p></o:p>
    In the middle of the deployment, we noticed that our changes to the user characteristics were not being updated. Eg: we enable or disable
    enterprise voice, no changes. We change the sip URI, log out, login, nothing, no changes. And we noticed that if we disable the user from Lync server (from the lync controlpanel), the user can still login. We assumed some lag on AD replication, but no, a user
    can still login after a week!<o:p></o:p>
    The deployment is a standard Lync 2013, single FE, with a single Edge server. We have enabled Enterprise voice, changes to the enterprise voice routes are
    working, if we enable or disable a route we can see it on the client, but changes on the dialplan are not reflected.<o:p></o:p>
    I can’t find any reference to this behavior. I know if I disable a user from the AD he can still signing into Lync, but this is different, we are disabling
    the user from Lync server. We even removed the user completely from Lync and he can still use it as normal.<o:p></o:p>
    We checked the user using adsiedit and the msrtcsip-userenabled is set to false, we even voided the certificate via lync console. Still able to use it.
    Suggestions?

    Hi,
    Please check if there is any error message on FE Server when the issue happen.
    It seems to be the issue of CMS replication.
    Please check CMS replication status by running Get-CsManagementStoreReplicationStatus.
    If CMS replication not update to the latest version, run Invoke-CsManagementStoreReplication.
    If the issue persists, please check Lync Server update, make sure Lync Server update to the latest version, and then test again.

    Now I want that the same user can only login once. So when a user login with his username and password, no one else can login with that user name and password.
    I don't wan't to put the username in the database and then validate if the user is already logged in, because then the user must logout and not close the webbrowser else the user stays in the system.
    Does anyone knows a solution top this problem.

    clicks on the X (close button in the browser his
    username must be deleted from the database)You can't tell when the user does that (or perhaps you can sometimes, with difficulty). But even if you could it doesn't solve your problem. Many people keep their browsers open all day, and -- you may find this shocking -- they go to sites other than yours.
    So basically, if you don't provide them with a logout button you can't tell when they "leave" your site. And even if you do provide them with a logout button, they won't necessarily bother to use it. So you're left with waiting until the session expires, and then logging them out. This also means that if they come back to your site while the session is still active, then they are still logged in. This is not an error and you should not treat it as one.

    If you want to change your iCloud ID or password on your phone go to Settings>iCloud and tap Delete Account, then sign back in with your updated information.  Note: this only deletes the account and any synced data from your phone, not from iCloud.  Provided you are signing back into the same account and not changing accounts it will be synced back to your device when you sign back in.
