Upgrading a GPU on msi gt780dx

Hello, i'm new here and need a few pointers since world of internet is huge and there is no information about this. I would like to upgrade my GPU, currently my gt780dx  is with gtx-570m nvidia gpu, is it possible to upgrade to 580m or anything higher with my laptop? Any help would be appreciated. Thank you for your help

I also bought 1 from ebay last month and when I put it on my gt60, it instantly booted. No problem during installation. i just removed the gpu bracket at the back and all is well.. The card is a beast and you must tame it's heat though.. anyways I hope you solved your problem too.

  • Upgrade GPU in MSI GT780DXR?

I've had the MSI GT780DXR for a while now, and wondering if i could upgrade the GPU. Right now it's stocked with a GTX 570m. I was wondering if there are any GPUs I could upgrade too. If it is possible, could you leave instructions on how to, and if there is anything special i need to do to my computer. Thanks!

Does your laptop come with Optimus? If it comes with NVidia's Optimus technology.....you can't upgrade to an AMD HD7970m, simply because it won't work together.......
If your laptop had a GTX570 in it, I would upgrade to another NVidia based card.......for the purpose of better compatibility.
I would go with the GTX675MX or GTX680M if you really want as much performance as possible.
Regarding where to purchase it....I'm not sure. You might be able to get one straight from the MSI Store if you search or email them about it.
Ebay is probably your other bet, but I'm not sure I would trust that very much either. Unless it says it comes from another MSI laptop (most likely a GT70/GT60).
As far as the other questions, you don't really need much except a few screwdrivers, some heatsink compound for the new card, maybe some papertowels and acetone to clean the old heatsink compound off.
Nothing is garunteed to work 100% though, so keep that in mind with this upgrade.

  • MSI GT780DX P1 "TURBO MODE" automatically off in few seconds

Hello ! In my MSI GT780DX  (I5, gtx570m  1.5GB, Windows 7 x64 pro, charger ON)  P1 "TURBO MODE" automatically off in few seconds (aimation from s-bar)
Everything work fine, until install the new driver for GPU from nvidia, v320, and give me problem whit P1 mode.
I'm uninstall the driver, and instal old, no fix, I'm uninstall all driver MSI (nvidia overclok tool, s-bar, afterburner, nvidia drivers) ,and install it again, no fix problem, still P1 "TURBO MODE" automatically off in few seconds ;/
    curiosity:
For more GPU clok (700MHZ)and memory (1700), I run "nvidia inspector",only open "show overcloking",and "Driver profile" , nothing change ! Then run afterburner , and set gpu clok to 700Mhz, memory clok 1700, aply, and in game it's run gpu to 700Mhz, no pressing P1 button !!
But I want to press only P1 button for more gpu clok...
    sorry for bad english.

For anyone that needs help setting the overclock tool to run at startup, just set a task to run the tool with admin priveleges at user login with the task scheduler.
Can confirm this works for me, I can now use my turbo button and change brightness without SCM crashing on the latest Nvidia drivers (331.65).

  • Upgrading the GPU, CPU and RAM of my Laptop n201ax

This maybe is a really long post but please answer because i really need answers for each one of these questions and i really want to upgrade my laptop to the best configuration If i Can.Let me make this clear first.* In the upcoming content the words "this laptop" always refers to Hp Pavilion 15-n201ax*
Okay so first of all i read somewhere that the maximum Ram of this laptop can be expanded till 16gb but the i came up with this link here -http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Hardware-Upgrades-Replacements/I-would-like-to-upgrade-memory-of-my-laptop-HP-15-n201ax/td-p/5146905 And then i came to know that it can only be upgraded to 12gb by reading Page #2 Chapter 1 Description of this Guide-http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c04438537.pdfFirst of all i would like to ask is that, 1. Can i buy a ram of any brand but ofc the same clock speed ie 1600mhz?, so can i go for the GSkill 4gb 1600Mhz DDR3 ram?2. Does the size matter to the respective slots? or i can install the 8gb and 4gb ram in any alternate slots? So this was all about the RAM But i need to know if i can change the discrete GPU and APU of this laptop3. And if Yes - Which are the compatible mobile GPU's that i can install by removing the previous one ie AMD 8600M (For example the R9, R7 and R5 Laptop graphics)4. And Which are the compatible APU's that i can install by removing the previous APU ie AMD A10-4655M APU (For example the AMD FX APU for Laptops)5. If i can upgrade the GPU and APU both please tell that does the compatibility matters? like only a specific GPU can work with a specific APU ie like in this laptop AMD A10-4655M APU + AMD 8600M GPU. Please Help Me out, Please. Thanks in advance.

Pavilion 15-n201ax? We are going to need to refer to the Service Manual here: Your Service Manual Officially, it only supports 12 gigs. Your model has a single 8 gig module so you have an open slot. Unofficially, may users here have reported that adding another 8 gigs to make a total of 16 gigs will work fine. But that is something you take the risk of doing, since it is unofficial.  The part numbers for the proper memory are listed on page 42. You need DDR3L-1600 SO-DIMM.  If you are going to go official, the 4 gig module is:   691740-001 This is it on amazon.com: http://www.amazon.com/HP-691740-001-1600MHz-PC3L-12800-memory/dp/B00CI08FX4/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1437948185&sr=8-1&keywords=691740-001 You should just leave the 8 gig where it is and add the new memory in the open slot.  On your model laptop, the GPU/APU is soldered to the motherboard. In order to do any upgrade you would need to buy a new motherboard. You have a whole incorrect idea that the GPU/APU can be removed and replaced and this is incorrect. The term APU means a processor that has video built in so the whole question about compatibility between GPUs and APUs just misses the mark. On some systems the GPU/APU is socketed and can be replaced which serves to replace/upgrade both the processor and video function but as stated above, on yours this involves pulling and replacing the whole motherboard.  There is a slightly better processor/graphics available using the AMD A10-5745M 8670M (2.9 GHz/2.1 GHz, 2 GB L2, 1333MHz DDR3L Quad 25W) for use with Windows Standard. The motherboard part is 734824-501 HP does not stock the board but I found this online: http://www.discounteddealz.com/product.asp?itemid=327740&gclid=CO78y6rn-cYCFQmCaQodOP0GLQ Never heard of this seller and can't vouch but the price is very reasonable for that board. I expected it to be quite a bit more which makes me wonder about this seller a bit. I would advise keeping what you have. It is very strong for AMD and upgrading to the A10-5745 board will only result in a very small uptick in performance at a very high cost in money and effort.  If this is "the Answer" please click "Accept as Solution" to help others find it. Hey sorry but i should have mentioned this before, I live in India and the links you provided are for amazon.comi tried to search on amazon.in and eneded up with this http://www.amazon.in/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=HP+691740-001+4GB%2C+1600MHz%2C+PC3L-12800+DDR3L+DIMM&rh=i%3Aaps%2Ck%3AHP+691740-001+4GB\c+1600MHz\c+PC3L-12800+DDR3L+DIMM Instead, can i get this one ? beacuse the hp one on the above result costs 41% more than the Transcend one below and that's very much http://www.amazon.in/Transcend-4GB-DDR3L-1600-LAPTOP/dp/B00B5LOOJG/ref=sr_1_2?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1437984575&sr=1-2&keywords=ddr3l+4gb+1600mhz And last thing is that Will the performance be better if i go for Ram branks like Corsair or GSkill same types of memory?

  • Nvidia Performance Level 3 - MSI GT780DX

    Hiya all,
I'm running Arch on an MSI GT780DX, with an Nvidia 570M. At the moment I'm running Arch-CK 4.0.5-2-CK (but over the many many many months I've been dealing with this issue I've ran many kernels to no avail - stock kernels from the inception of v4, and all incarnations of liquorix) with the nvidia-ck 352.21-1 drivers.
For the life of me, I can't get this card to clock properly. I've enabled coolbits, added powermizer options in my xorg, all do absolutely nothing. The card stays at performance level two.
This is what my nvidia-settings looks like in the Powermizer tab.
    http://i.imgur.com/QHtgzi3.png
In Windows, MSI provided an overclocking utility which when I hit P1 above my keyboard, performance level 3 would kick in. Linux has no such tool. My guess is that the overclocking utility wrote to registers on the card. If that's the case, how on earth can I do think in Linux?

Is there nobody having the same or at least having a clue how to solve that?
Can I do something or is this just a Nvidia driver bug?

  • Upgrading T420 GPU?

Hi, I just purchased my T420 this past summer, but with new games coming out later this year, I'd like to know if there's any way to upgrade the GPU? I've read things about eGPU's, but they don't seem to be reliable or easy to do, and I'd like to know if there's a simple way to just install a different GPU.
    Thanks!

You can't change GPU on the T420, I think an alternative is getting an eGPU.

  • Overheating or Memory? MSI GT780DX

    Hello everyone!
    I have MSI GT780DX Laptop (GTX570M 1.5GB, 16gb RAM)
I'm playing Battlefield 3 on lowest settings and I have 80-100 fps and when I'm playing while recording with Fraps on 60 fps everything works perfect for about 30-40 min and than fps falls to 5-10. If I switch off fraps it goes back to 80-100. I've tried to monitor temperature and it doesn't go above 75-80 (which I think is normal?). I've tried ccleaner, disk defragmentation and disk check but still no changes...Is there anything that can be done in this situation? Maybe it's memory problems or smth? I'm really looking forward to your help guys!
    Thank you.

    A few questions...
What resolution are you playing at?
What hard drive are you recording onto?
    What is your memory usage?
Remember, FRAPS needs to record the data somewhere, I'd bet it's recording it to RAM and then storing it on the HDD as fast as it can, but the HDD is slower than your recording. You're probably filling your RAM and after 30 to 40 minutes it's completely full.....That's my guess anyway.

  • MSI GT780DX Serious keyboard issue - Help Needed

    Hello everyone,
I have an MSI GT780DX and a few months ago it started to fail the x key when I pressed it...
After sometime it started failing the W key...
Then it was the arrow down key...
So I bought another keyboard and I managed to install it in place, the led lights worked just fine but I'm with a terrible issue now.
The keys are all wrong, for example the space bar = backspace when I press it, the a = ; the  j=l and so on... all the keys are mixed up...
Does anyone have any idea what might be causing this and how to fix it?
My notebook is the msi gt780dx with Win 7 (its the original Win7 that came with the notebook)... The new keyboard has the same part number but its symbol for the windows key is different (it's the Win 8 logo)
Please any help would be gladly appreciated.
    Best Regards.

Hi I tried resetting the EC and no change...
Then I try installing Win 8  but at the serial number screen the keys are already messed up...
Tried with ubuntu also and the same.
I'm assuming its not an OS related problem...
And yes, warranty was already off when I switched the keyboards.
    Any other ideas?
Does anyone also know where can I find a Win7 keyboard for this notebook?
    I'm running out of options...

  • MSI GT780DX UK Release

    Hello everyone
I have just read on the Overclockers Web site that the MSi GT780DX is available to pre order in the UK at last.
However, horror struck when I read the UK spec. The Machine has been heavily marketed for its 'Backlit Steel Series Gaming Keyboard' but the UK release won't be backlit
Why ever not MSI ?.....it's a gaming machine so surely a backlit keyboard is a must have. Very disappointing. Now I will have to take another look at Alienware.

Quote from: Fagan on 01-November-11, 02:29:14
I was going to buy from that site as well. At least I know someone else has already bought from there.
What did you do about the plug? and how much did you pay in total? (just so I know if its worth buying from US)
I paid £1300 or thereabouts for the laptop including delivery and then when UPS arrived I paid the custom tax to the courier in cash whom gave me a cash as this is the way UPS do it all in it took 4 days to get to me from the USA
Ref the power cable, I originally purchased a plug adaptor but when it arrived i noted that the connection in the power pack was the same as a normal PC scree / desktop PSU one so I jut plugged that in and all has been good.
Didn't realise the UK one came with a slightly better processor so what's the difference 200mhz?? not sure it will be noticeable really.

  • MSI GT780DX Embedded Controller gpu temp detection

    Hi Svet,
I wanted to ask you something (if it is possible).
Recently I upgraded to a Clevo 7970m from the Nvidia 570m the notebook came with originally.
I noticed something however that the fan does not ramp up with the gpu temperature rising.
I'll make an example: I start Kombustor/Furmark where only the gpu gets stressed. Then I start monitoring with Afterburner.
What happens is that the gpu starts heating up but the fan remains at idle levels. It can reach as high as 80 deg and still the fan would not spin faster.
With the cpu it doesn't do this. Once the cpu starts heating up the fan spins normally.
What do you think it could be? I think it's related to the EC not reading the gpu temp.
If it can be done I'll donate as soon as possible
Running stock bios 1761_30.H with EC 1761_1419 (ver. 4.19)
I also upgraded the MEI to version 7.1.5 (can it be upgraded further?)
Here's the bios EC an vbios I use:

  • Satellite C650-1CP - Is it possible to upgrade the GPU?

    Hi
I just wanted to ask a question about my graphics card in regards to gaming.
I just recently found out that integrated graphics chips arent that good for gaming so i done a little reading into the subject and found something saying that there is a possibility that you can send the laptop to the manufacturer and purchase a chip upgrade or pay to get a better one installed.
Is this possible? and if it is, what sort of price would you be looking at. My laptop is a C650-1CP as i said in the title.
    Thanks

    Hi
No, this is definitely not possible.
There are plenty of threads about this theme and GPU (graphic card) upgrade is definitely NOT possible.

  • 10.9.3 Upgrade - Causes GPU Panic Attacks

Since the upgrade on May 17 2014, my MAC Book Pro has been crashing constently.  It has crashed in many applications and in many scenarios. It is not hardware related given that my MAC has been nothing but stable until the upgrade.  I have read that 4K support for monitors was introduced as part of this release and since I my laptop going into a state GPU Panic, it only seems to make sense that it is related to an OSX bug.  Can someone please advise on what to do.
