Upgrading database in 10g with 9i cold backup.

Hello Experts,
I am upgrading my database in 10g with cold backup of 9i.
I am getting this error
ORA-01547: warning: RECOVER succeeded but OPEN RESETLOGS would get error below
ORA-01194: file 1 needs more recovery to be consistent
ORA-01110: data file 1: 'D:\9i_DB\SYSTEM01.DBF'
could you people help me

I would suggest you need to start the db in 9i first .. check the db is up and running .. then go for Manuall upgrade process to10g

Assuming you see the above error message in the alert log file, which was your original post, follow the below steps:
1 Get the 'ospid' value from the error
2. Issue the below command:
SQL> select request_id,ORACLE_PROCESS_ID
2 from fnd_concurrent_requests
3 where request_id = 15598;
3. After obtaining the request_id
4, Query it from the front-end using SYSADMIN responsibility
Hopefully this should get you the respective concurrent report/program.

UPGRADING DATABASE TO 10G R2

Hi All,
I had installed 11.5.10.2 on IBM-AIX 5L V5.3(64 bit).
As by default my current database Oracle9i Enterprise Edition Release 9.2.0.6.0.
I need to upgrade my database to 10g R2.
What steps I need to follow and are there any changes that need to be done from Application Side.
I had made my installation in this scenario( multinode)
DB-CM-ADMIN -- 1st Node
FORM-WEB -- 2nd Node
Application file system sharing -- NO
Please advice.

Can we upgrade database in parllel with oracle Applcation servers

I am upgrading oracle application from 12.0.4 to 12.1.1 & then to 12.1.3.
My current version of database is 10.2.0.4. I also have a plan to upgrade my database to 11g release 2
Can anyone clarify me,
Is upgrading database from 10.2.0.4 to 11g release2 in parllel with upgradation of oracle application servers 10.1.3 and 10.1.2 possable?
As I could see that none of the patch sets of 10.1.3 have dependencies with database
I haven't checked if it has any dependencies with database while upgrading Application server 10.1.2
Please suggest me pro's & con's in doing both the upgrades in parlled

Upgrade database to 11g with Application Express 3.1.2.00.02

What is the recommended procedure to upgrade to a 11G database while running apex 3.1.2
We recently upgraded our development database to 11g - the steps followed were to create a new 11g database and export from 10g and import our schemas into
the new version. while creating the database our DBA selected the install Apex option. Well this caused APEX to downgrade our version to 3.0
Of course nothing worked. It's been over a week now and through many posts and other googled articles have made several attempts to rectify this. I've uninstalled and reinstalled apex many times but my real concern at the moment is......
Well now management is ready for the next 11g environment - yikes! I'd like to know some steps to take to keep this mess from happening again.

As you mention in your post, installing Apex as part of 11g is optional. If you are concerned about staying with the version of Apex you have (especially if it is later than the version that comes with 11.1) then just ask your DBA to not install Apex with the 11g installer. Apex can be installed separately and can be which ever version you need (within limits).
Likewise, when upgrading from 10g to 11g, you can either upgrade the database in-situ (which would preserve your Apex database installation I believe) or create a new instance and import your schemas and redeploy your apex apps (having installed Apex manually).
As an aside, 11.2 (out for Linux/Solaris) seems to come with 3.2.1.

Problem with restoring a database from cold backup

All,
I've got a 10.2.0.4 database that we perform a cold backup on every night with RMAN. On Sunday 2/21, we have level 0 backup. On Monday-Wednesday nights, we take a cold level 1. We also perform a controlfile auto backup each night.
On a second server where I want to restore the database (same version of Oracle 10.2.0.4), I've copied the control file auto backups, the level 0 and the most recent level 1. I now want to restore. I use an RMAN script similar to the following to restore the control files:

Database give ORA-600 error after cold backup

HI,
I have oracle 10g install on linux system. i take cold backup of my database using
sql> shutdown immediate
and then copy all files to any other location.
but when i start my database it gives me error like

Since it is case of Ora 600, for which only last solution is oracle support, but i would like to mention that your are getting ORA-00600: internal error code, arguments: [4193].... So, this 4193 is cause to read following links too:

How to restore cold backup + archived log files

Hi,
Suppose I take a cold backup on 18th. After that I have four days of archived log files. if the database crashes on 5th day, I have to restore the 18th cold back + 4 days of archived log files. How do I restore since it is a cold backup and I cant do incomplete recovery.
can I use
Recover database ( with 18th cold backup) in mount state and apply archived logs.

The details of how you perform forward recovery using a cold backup depends on
1- rman or manual backup
2- using current or backup control file
3- if rman, recovery catalog or no recovery catalog
4- if full database recovered or only a few files
Each of these conditions will affect what is known to Oracle and what needs to be done. For example if you restored the entire cold backup including the control file then Oracle would see a consistent database and not need to perform recovery so you would need to startup mount and tell the database to perform recovery using a backup control file. If using rman and no recovery catalog you might need to catalog some of the archived redo logs, etc....
It is advisable to consult the Backup and Recovery manuals before attempting recovery for any new scenario.

Cold backup downtime using RMAN

Over the weekend I performed a cold RMAN backup on a 3.6 TB
database. Because a lot of the database was backed up with
transportable tablespaces, the net amount being backed up was
approximately 365 Gb. I took down the database at 11:00 and the
script finished at 4am, but in reviewing the logs, the database
actually appears to have been opened at 2am.
I assumed that the database would be down the entirety of the
backup. Can anyone help me understand why the database was
opened so long before the RMAN command completed? Was the
backup adversely affected in any way by a user obtaining access
prior to the RMAN process completing.
Any information greatly appreciated.

unfortunately i think you misunderstood the original question. i took the database down to do the cold backup. in order to use rman, you have to startup nomount the instance.
the script run was:
#!/usr/bin/ksh
rman msglog '/data2/oracle2/local/log/rman_lvl0.log' <<EOF
@connect.rman
run {
backup incremental level 0 tag full_bkup0 database diskratio=0;
alter database open;
exit;
EOF
exit
the "alter database open" tells RMAN to open the database once the backup is completed. i had a process running that checked each 10 seconds to see if the PID for the RMAN process was still running. The process itself appears to have run for an additional 2 hours after the database was opened.
there is nothing on the system to suggest that the database was opened by anything other than RMAN. was the database opened prematurely? was the additional time spent in the RMAN script doing the sync in the database? did the usage by the user prior to RMAN completing invalidate the backup? (so far the cloning is still running without error).

DB cloning using cold backup

Upgrading to Oracle 10g for R/3 4.5B

Hello All,
One of the businesses we support is running SAP R/3 4.5B on Oracle 9.2.0.6. The kernel details are:
SAP R/3 Kernel information:

Is there a path to upgrade the database to 10g with this R/3 release without SAP upgrade?

also, please note the excerpt below taken from note 819655 (please check it for an updated version):
Oracle Version
For general information regarding the support of Oracle version 10.2, see Note 720886 .
Even though Oracle 10 will not be generally certified for SAP systems with Releases 3.1I up to 4.6B, it is fully supported to upgrade these systems to Oracle 10.2 prior to the SAP upgrade or prior to the PREPARE phase of the upgrade.
The system can run with this setup for weeks with full support. This procedure was tested in the SAP-internal upgrade validation phase. However, you will encounter limitations in the field of database monitors and you cannot copy such a system to a target system running on Oracle 10g. From a business application perspective, you can use the system without any limitations.
Double Stack systems: When you upgrade the SAP J2EE Engine from NW ´04 to NW2004s, you must apply at least Support Package 12 of the SAP J2EE Engine before the upgrade to Oracle 10.
Also, note 868681 confirms the above, i.e..:
"SAP Systems 31I - 45B
The transports included within this note are not relevant for SAP releases 31I - 45B. These systems (31I - 45B) have to be upgraded to Oracle 10.x during preparations for the SAP Upgrade (release 700).
The monitoring transactions such as DB02 may not work correctly in these systems after upgrade to Oracle 10.x. However there is NO IMPACT on any of the business transactions."
Meaning, that if you upgrade your 4.5b system to Oracle 10g outside of a SAP upgrade project, you may find yourself running an unsupported installation.

Restoring tigger from cold backup.

I have one problem..... recently i have drooped 1 trigger by mistake of one of my user in database. Now the problem is... we never take the logical backup of that DB.
Backup mechanism of the database is Cold Backup and size is *2TB*.
Now i have to restore that trigger from the cold backup with minimum effort , do i have to create the Clone database with the Cold backup using all the datafiles ...? or System tablespace ( or datafile) and default Schema tablespace(Schema which holds the trigger and its tables) in enough for restoring the trigger ?
I hope i am clear with my question. please let me know if you need more details.
Please suggest some best and fast way to solve this problem.

You need to restore enough to OPEN the DB can you please elaborate this clearly....

Cold Backup Cloning Cloning

Hello All ,
I am new to the DBA activities..,kindly help me with the cold backup cloning.
We have a backup of PROD(cold bkp) taken 2 weeks before.
After the backup was taken we have dropped a tablespace(with 4 dbfs) as per the customer requirement.
And also we have created a new tablespace (with 1 dbf).
So the cold backup does not include the new dbfs created which is needed,and it does include the dropped dbfs which are not needed.
Now we are going to do a clone on to the TEST with the above cold backup,Could anybody please help me how to proceed..?

My thoughts were :
If the test and prod hosts are identical:
1. restore the cold backup to test.
2. Copy over all archive logs created since to the archive log destination.
3. Use a new cold backup of current production controlfiles to overwrite those restored to test, or if prod has to stay up , use RMAN to create a backup of the controlfile & spfile from production that you then restore using rman on test (with DB started nomount & DBID set).
4. Open test 'mount' , recover database, then open resetlogs.
Or am I forgetting something?
I vaguely remember that there's something about changes to DB structure (additional Tablespaces and files) and control files thus other posts refering to 'alter database create file' ...

PS. You might just be better of creating a new Rman compressed backupset database backup and restoring that.

Cold backup on New instance

Hi,
Our client has provided us with the cold Backup (the file system) of the pre-prod system which runs Oracle 9.2.0.8.0 on HP-Unix.
We want to restore this backup on Windows machine.
Can anybody provide help or some document which can guide us through the steps to setup new instance to restore the cold backup ?
Is this the same as creating standby system ?

In that case, you can not utilize your cold backup on Windows machine at all, Until and unless you have the same OS, you can not prepare the standby database.
