Upgrading Installations that use Standby Databases
I have applied patch 6810189 and upgraded Oracle10g Database on my local machine, Now I am planing to apply it on test machine for that I need additional steps for upgrading Physical Standby database as said in README.html of p6810189_10204_Win32.zip
*7.1.2 Upgrading Installations that use Physical or Logical Standby Databases*
For information about physical standby databases, review document 278641.1.
Can anybody forward me this document or any suggestions for upgrading physical standby database..
THanks.
thanks :)
but I am looking for complete steps, starting from applying patch to production then at standby database.... etc..etc

Right way to code an AIR application that uses sqllite database
I am developing an AIR application that uses sqllite database.I want to know the correct way in which I should create the connections and SQLstatements according to MVC pattern. For example, whether i should have a single SQLStatement object for all my sql operations or I should use separate objects for insert, delete, select etc.I know how to open connection, execute statements and all,but i want to know the professional way of writing it.
Make a controller for connect to db and save the connection in global varible (in model). Use this connection variable whenever u wanna execute the sql statements. Create seperate dao's for each table. Queries should be executed under the daos. You can call the method under the dao for execute the query from controller and show the result in view.

Recovering primary using standby database
Hi all,
Here we have a dataguard environment with db1(db_unique_name) as primary and db2(db_unique_name) as physical standby database. We configured dataguard in 10g environments and we are not using grid control. And now we want to configure rman for incremental backups. After configuring we successfully took full backup in standby plus archive logs. Then as the test case we dropped one datafile from the primary and tried to recover it. It is showing the following error. Also when i tried 'crosscheck backup' from primary it is showing that all the backups taken in standby are 'expired'. But from RMAN connected to standby the same backups are showing as 'available'. Can anyone help to fix this?

Upgrading with a physical standby database in place
Hi all
I am planning to upgrade my database which is 11.2.0.1 (Windows 32 platform) to 11.2.0.3. It has a primary standby database. I only have 1 server for testing the primary database, so I am looking for some help.
I was reading http://docs.oracle.com/cd/B28359_01/server.111/b28294/upgrades.htm#CHDBJAGG and I confuse about step 4 and 5
+4. Install the new release of the Oracle software into a new Oracle home on the physical standby database system, as described in the Oracle Database Upgrade Guide.+
+5. Mount the physical standby database.+
My question is in step 5, when I mount the physical standby database, does it mounted using new Oracle binary or still using the old version? From my understanding what is step 4 doing is to copying files to new home only. Changing the service to use the new oracle binary is done by dbua. I know this when I test upgrading the primary database.
Regards
Stanley.Hello;
new Oracle binary or the new Oracle home if you will.
So you install the new software on the standby only, all the upgrade SQL gets done on the Primary and then you ENABLE and startup mount on the new oracle home and the standby gets upgraded from the Primary redo.
Its pretty simple ( My exact plan )
1. Disable log shipping from the Primary
2. Shutdown Standby
3. Install 11.2.0.3 on Standby - Just the software
4. Startup Standby in recovery mode - do NOT run r any SQL at the standby
5. Shutdown Primary
6. Install 11.2.0.3 on Primary
7. Run Upgrade SQL or DBUA at Primary
8. Re-enable log shipping
9. Monitor the redo apply from Primary to Standby - this will also upgrade the Standby data dictionary
Make sure your tnsnames and listener files move to the new Oracle home and edit as needed.
Another oracle note is 278641.1

Use standby-database as standby-database after creating primary database
First I will tell what we have and what I did.
We have a standby database on server B that was not started. We did a cold copy to server A and opened the database on server A as primary database. Now we wonder if we can use the standby database on server B to apply archives without creating a new copy to server B. The standby database on server B is waiting for sequence 2900, while the database on server A started with a new sequence.
Is it possible somehow to start the recovery again on the standby databsae on server B without creating a new copy?
Forgot to mention: db-version is 9.2.0.7.0, OS is SunOS 5.10Writing seperate code is not needed, Oracle will copy the files if the log_archive_dest is set to the right value.
However, it is solved!
What I did:
- create standby controlfile on the primary
- copy standby controlfile to standby database
- on standby: startup nomount / alter database mount standby database
- on primary: set log_archive_dest_2 to trigger the copying of archivelogs to the standby
Right now the standby database is recovering. -
Screensaver that uses Lightroom database
Hi,
I would like to request a screen saver be developed that uses the Lightroom database to display the photos. It would take into account adjustments made to the photos, rotate accordingly and would read them directly from the source files (Canon RAW, JPEG and TIFF etc).
Included in this would be the ability to filter be collection, rating or perhaps introduce a new 'screensaver' flag against an image.
Another related export option within Lightroom might be to export a windows screen saver (scr file I think) from the Slide show screen. Although this option would give a professional photographer another option in product format to sell, I personally would like the before-mentioned (probably external) program developed over this feature.
Thanks,
JasonHi guys,
I'm happy to announce LrSaver (http://www.lrsaver.com/) - The Lightroom Screensaver Addon!
LrSaver provides many features, such as:
Selection of images according to any meta-data fields by utilizing Smart Collections (or by using rating).
Utilization of Lightroom image cache which enables:
Low CPU & RAM utilization
Accurate display exactly as by Lightroom itself.
No need for the actual images to be accessible during slideshow (e.g. if stored on external/remote storage).
Arrow keys to move between images during slideshow
Check http://www.lrsaver.com/ for more information.

Do I need to use standby database in begin backup mode to take the backup?
Hi All,
I have a 10g(10.2.0.4) primary database with standby on a solaris platform. I need to create another standby database for the same primary.
I have stopped the recovery on existing standby database and started copying(os copy) the files from existing standby to 2nd standby server. However I haven't kept the existing standby database(mounted) in begin backup mode. Is it okay?
Thanks,

List of companies that use oracle database
Hello everyone,
I am studying Oracle DBA and I have to do a 6 month internship in the summer in order to finish my studies and get the degree. The question is: is there a way to find what companies/firms use oracle in the US?
Thanks in advance..Dude company data is its real asset no body will allow you to make their valueable asset as testing Lab material. just get training from good professional take exam and do a lot of practices. This will make you a little champ in 2-3 years. Expert not before 7 years. So you should be consistent and patient in learning and earning.

Oracle 10 upgrade - Primary & standby database
Hi Expert,
I need some information on your project experience. We're currently planning a oracle 10 upgrade. Have a few question:
1. We're planning to upgrade the primary database first and a week later the standby database. Will the archive log which is sent from primary to standby database will still work? Will the recovery still work?
2. Is this the right patch to go 10.2.0.4? I'm currently on 4.7 ext 2
3. Will there be a performance issue known of oracle 10 running on 32-bit machine, since it has the limitation of the memory (3G). Do I need to set AWE option on windows?
Thanks in advance.Hello Sean,
please let me go more in detail with some of your comments.
> I actually posted my experience with doing a rolling upgrade of a PHYSICAL standby database.
This statement is wrong. You can't do a rolling upgrade with a physical standby database. You have to convert the database to a logical standby database .. and then you can perform a rolling upgrade. But if you have done the conversion, it is not a physical anymore.
This is also described and mentioned in this white paper:
http://www.oracle.com/technology/deploy/availability/pdf/maa_wp_10gr2_rollingupgradebestpractices.pdf
Data Guard SQL Apply (logical standby database) is required in order to perform a database rolling upgrade. You can also do a rolling upgrade when starting with a physical standby by temporarily converting the physical standby to a logical standby. If starting with 11g, see the Rolling Database Upgrades for Physical Standby Databases using Transient Logical Standby 11g paper for details on doing a rolling upgrade when starting with a physical standby. If starting with 10g, see MetaLink note 300479.1.
> It WILL work, and is fairly straight forward.
In this point you are almost correct, because of a standard SAP system is not using the unsupported data types, etc. (afaik)
http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/server.102/b14239/data_support.htm
To be honest if a sap basis admin asks such a question, i would not recommend to perform an unsupported way, because i am in doubt about his dataguard know how.

Problems while compiling a project that uses Database Adapter
Hi,
I am working on a small WebService that uses the Database Adapter to connect with the Oracle-Lite database. The process is a synchronous process which has client and DatabaseService as the partner link. The goal of this project is to get two inputs from the user and send it over to the DatabaseService for it to select the rows from the table based on the inputs sent. The process activity has an invoke function which had two varibles Invoke_1_inputVarible and Invoke_1_outputVarible. I have included the *.xds that contains the database schema. When I compile the project i get the following error
Error(38): [Error ORABPEL-10035]: wrong messageType [Description]: in line 38 of "D:\OraBPELPM_2\integration\jdev\jdev\mywork\Workspace1\Login\Login.bpel", messageType "{http://xmlns.oracle.com/pcbpel/adapter/db/ds/}EmployeeRole_msg" of variable "Invoke_1_dsSelect_InputVariable" does not match the expected messageType "{http://xmlns.oracle.com/pcbpel/adapter/db/ds/}dsSelect_inparameters" in <invoke>. [Potential fix]: make sure the correct variable is used in invoke.
My question is how do I assign correct messageType for the variables.

Data Guard - Steps to install Physical standby database in an RHEL 5.6 x86
HI Team,
I need to install Physical standby database in a OS installed from factory with most basic packages. Please find the info in detail
Standby Server :
Database Version : 10g Release 2
Operating System : Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server release 5.6 (Tikanga) , RHEL 5.6 x86_64
swartis.dc$ free -m
total used free shared buffers cached
Mem: 34158 33847 311 0 558 28367
-/+ buffers/cache: 4921 29237
Swap: 10001 63 9937
- Things i need to validate in the PROD server. Eg : Are the prod db version & standby db version should be the same, Do the OS need to be same ............ETC
- Basic Linux rpm required for standby server & any other pre-requisites required at standby server
- Verify connectivity speed btw servers to decide log file size
- Please give me more detailed steps , where i need to start the steps in installation of Physical standby database.
Thanks in advance.

Edited by: Rakesh on Jan 10, 2012 8:23 AMHello again;
Sorry for the Delay.
To this question "Do i need to install 10.2.0.2.0 ORACLE_HOME & on top of it apply 10.2.0.3.0 patchset.?"
Yes.
All my Oracle 10 installs started with 10.2.0.1 and then I patched up from there. If I remember correctly 10.2.0.1 may bark on Red Hat 5.
You can work around this by reviewing this file :
/etc/redhat-releaseSave whatever is in there somewhere and replace it with :
redhat-3After the install put back what was there and get rid of the "redhat-3".
I extra RPM's I used were :
rpm -ivh kernel-headers-2.6.18-164.el5.x86_64.rpm
rpm -ivh compat-libstdc++-33* libaio-devel*.x86_64.rpm
rpm -ivh elfutils-libelf-devel*.x86_64.rpm glibc-devel-2* gcc-4*.x86_64.rpm gcc-c++-4*.x86_64.rpm libstdc++-devel-4*.x86_64.rpm glibc-headers*.x86_64.rpm libgomp*.x86_64.rpm
rpm -ivh compat-libstdc++-33* libaio-devel*.x86_64.rpm
rpm -ivh sysstat*I searched my Red Hat Disks before hand and ran the RPM commands as shown. Adjust as needed.
To verify that the required packages have been installed on your system, run the following command :
pm -q --queryformat "%{NAME}-%{VERSION}-%{RELEASE} (%{ARCH})\n" binutils \
compat-libstdc++-33 elfutils-libelf elfutils-libelf-devel gcc gcc-c++ glibc \
glibc-common glibc-devel-2.5 libaio libaio-devel libgcc libstdc++ libstdc++-devel \
make sysstatThis document is for Oracle 11, but the OS part should be the same.
http://www.visi.com/~mseberg/installing_oracle_11g_r2_64.html
Currently I have 3 servers running both Oracle 10 and 11 ( In different homes ) using this OS.
I have used Oracle 11 document with Oracle 10 also : ( Better once you are setup and a great standby recovery document )

Hello !!!
I have noticed that my standby database(11g) was still in sync after stopping the primary and standby database listener.
If this is the case then how log is transferring from primary to standby ? it is not using listener service ? kindly clarifyRead this Metalink Note:407040.1

Datafile issues in manual standby database
Hi all,
oracle - 10gR2
OS - RHEL 2.6
We have primary and standby database setup using manual methods('rsync') to send archive logs from primary to standby database and they are applied there. Today I have created a new datafile in primary and seen that the same is not replicated in standby( i was not aware of the functionality of this kind of setup) later I have seen that "standby_file_management parameter is set to MANUAL".
I have seen the following message in standby alert log(not disabled the archive log application script in satndby),
"Media Recovery Log /u01/app/oracle/oradata/bmprod/archivelog/1_1761_703415336.arc
File #6 added to control file as 'UNNAMED00006' because
the parameter STANDBY_FILE_MANAGEMENT is set to MANUAL
The file should be manually created to continue.
Some recovered datafiles maybe left media fuzzy
Media recovery may continue but open resetlogs may fail"
Later I have copied the required file from primary to standby database(now I have disabled the archive log application script in standby), and renamed the datafile 'UNNAMED00006' to 'desired one' and restarted the archive log application script. I have seen the following messages,
"ORA-01547: warning: RECOVER succeeded but OPEN RESETLOGS would get error below
ORA-01194: file 6 needs more recovery to be consistent
ORA-01110: data file 6: '/u02/app/oracle/oradata/bmprod/BMTEST.dbf'"
Now I am unable to figure out what I should do to come out of this situation. Atleast tell me this condition is not worse than I thought(I think that the standby database should be recreated).
Any help is appreciated.......
regards
Edited by: techfeud on Jan 18, 2010 11:26 PMHi,
when you set the standby_file_management parameter as mannual then , if you create any datafile or adding it to the tablespace then you should mannaully run the command on the standby side , if its auto then auto matically it will create the file over in the respective locationa and with the name what you have used to create the datafile on the primary side,
as the parameter value is mannual ypu need to create the datafile over the standby side and then performt the recovery,

How make installer java with mySQL database
How do I create a java installer for windows, because I have a project that uses mySQL database.
Anyone please help me....If you have eg. a desktop application which needs a database, but don't have/ need a database server, which is accessed by several instances of the application (which seems to be the case, otherwise you wouldn't want to install it along with the application), consider an embedded database such as Apache Derby/ Java DB.
Then all you need is to ship some jars and make sure they are on the classpath.
If you're using JPA and generate the DB schema, then switching DB vendors should be quite easy. Just reconfigure your persistence.xml.
