UPK 11.0 ESP1 to 11.1 ESP1 upgrade - license implications?

Hi all,
This may be a bit naive from my end, but what are the license implications when upgrading from UPK 11.0 to 11.1?
Does Oracle allow a client to automatically upgrade to UPK 11.1 when they have purchased 11.0 licenses?
Perhaps I am missing something in the documentation provided with UPK...
I would appreciate any reference to documentation supporting this, or a document ID on myoraclesupport or a "yes, upgrade is possible with current 11.0 license".

For knowledge sharing - I got my answer from Oracle.
I assume no one answered as they didn't have the answer I was looking for...
Under the licensing agreement (support), you are (in my case) able to upgrade from 11.0 to 11.1 under the same license - it is part of on-going support for the product.
If you are unsure on specifics, you are requested to contact the Oracle sales rep in your area.
I hope this assists someone who may have the same query at some stage.

UPK 11.0.0 integrate with EBS 12.1.3

Hi,
I installed UPK 11.0.0 server and client. I have also imported UPK EBS 12.1.3 contents provided from oracle edelivery. Now I need to integrate EBS help menu with UPK. My first step is to just see if integration works or not. document says :
" Modify the HELP_WEB_AGENT Profile
You must modify the HELP_WEB_AGENT profile in Oracle to point to the oracle_gateway.html in the Player content deployed on the server.
Following is an example for R12:

What should be servername and port? Do I have to publish anything just to verify if integration to help menu works or not? I found oracle_gateway.html in below path. Does it look correct?

Hello,
You should publish a Player and put it on a web server, even if it's a small preliminary or test outline, and use the URL of the published Player for the help link. The oracle_gateway.html file that you found is part of your local cache and is not the one you should be linking.

Multiple Users Working on a UPK

Hi, can multiple users work on a single UPK? In previous versions it was not possible for multiple users to create topics and then link these to the same module. Therefore, if we needed multiple users to work on a UPK one person would create the module and topic and then export the details. Then, a second person could import and edit the UPK. Are there any other methods for multiple users to work on the same UPK? In the HCM training Peter mentioned something about working together in multiuser env but I'm not sure if this covers this requirement. Also, its worth mentioning that we have installed UPK Developer for 'Single User'. Thanks for your help. Laura

Yes, a multi-user environment of UPK is when UPK Server is installed to a server and UPK clients are installed on author's desktops. This provides the authors with a shared, collaborative environment where they can check out content to make changes and check in content to make the newly updated content available to someone else.

Error message. From someone new to UPK

UPK 3.6.1 Gkn.OnDemand.Library.OfflineException - Possible solution

Apology if this has been posted already, but I search Oracle articles/forums/support and various websites and couldn't find any solution until I just happen to stumble upon it by chance.
I thought I'd try and share this solution in case someone else is having the same issue as me which took a couple of weeks to work out.
A few weeks ago I got a request to setup Oracle UPK environment. Things went smoothly until it tries to populate the library.

The closest solution I could fine is:

Which says to give full control access to everyone across the entire disk.
Well it didn't help my issue. After searching various websites, it appears quite a number of people were experiencing the same issue, but no solution were posted or documented.
Tested IIS and it showed it was working OK. Can see default page with big flashy IIS7 logo. Made sure oracle database and connections are ok.
One guy from another forum said he had to resort back to installing it on Windows 2003 32 bit.
Well I gave that a try, and still experiencing the same issue.
For a full week I couldn't work out what's going on, until I tested IIS on the Windows 2003.
The localhost default page was displaying access denied. Squid (Proxy server) was complaining about security issue.
Then it hit me. This is an issue relating to the proxy server.
My company have serveral proxy servers, therefore the server I was setting up UPK on, its Internet browser proxy setting was set to autodetect.
After ensuring no proxy has been set and the autodetect option is not selected, UPK server installation ran without an issue.
So if you have a similar issue as me give it a try.
Sorry the post is quite long, but I wanted to give a good details on what the issue was and what worked for me.
Hopefully I could save time or frustration for someone.

UPK no longer showing ExactMatch in PeopleSoft 9.2

We recently installed UPK 11.0.1 to record content in PeopleSoft 9.2. After installation, the UPK recorder was properly recognizing PS via ExactMatch. As of today, however, the recorder is showing "NoMatch" and not recording any context sensitivity across multiple PS instances.
Could this be a browser issue? Looking for possible answers.

Sounds like it could be a browser issue. UPk 11.0.x is quite old and does not support the latest browsers for recording purposes. What browser (and version of the browser) are you using with UPK 11.0 SP1?

UPK Template Customization (XML/XSL)

Hi all,
I've created a content in Oracle UPK 11.1.0 developers edition. My concern here is that, during string input of data for e.g., Enter the approriate month, for instance October*. Help text will appear in See It!, Try It! and Know It!, but in Do It! mode the same available instruction will be displayed. What I want in this case, in Do It! mode I need to insert generic text rather than template text. Hence, I want to edit this in Template.xml, associated with two additional xlst files in the Library > Systems > Templates > en > Microsoft - English > Template.xml. Is it possible to edit the xml and xlst and implement the above said. Please let me know, if you require any additional information.

I'm not trying to be difficult...I'm explaining my problem as best as I know how. I didn't realize that alban was asking for input...frankly I didn't understand his "ISP happy you're not using much bandwidth" comments and while I realize a more experienced person probably would have known he wanted input, I didn't and I would have gladly provided it if the request had been explicit. Perhaps this isn't the place for me to ask a question as someone not well versed in xml/xsl but I have provided the input below in case this might help someone help me.
1 - java code executes sql query

UPK and Windows 7

Has anyone tried using the UPK Developer on a Windows 7 operating system?
We have not upgraded to Windows 7 yet and are wondering if it will affect UPK development. We're using UPK 3.5.1.

Hello,
While UPK does not yet officially provide support for Windows 7 (it will soon), I can say that I've been using UPK in a Windows 7 environment without problems since Windows 7 was released. The only potential issue that comes to mind is an issue related to the DPI setting, which is more likely to be set to an unsupported value in Windows 7. Windows 7 detects the size of the display and attempts to set the DPI to a higher value when it believes it makes sense to do so. The problem is that many applications were written with the assumption that the display would be set at a consistent DPI of 96.
I would suggest checking the DPI to ensure it is set to 100% or 96 DPI. Anything higher (120%, 120DPI) will result in UPK looking distorted. Please note that this is not a Windows 7 specific issue as it can be seen in other Operating Systems with high DPI settings.
If this is not the issue being experienced, I highly encourage a support ticket be entered at My Oracle Support, support.oracle.com.

UPK buttons not working in OLM

Anyone ever used Oracle Learning Management and UPK? I imported SCORM compliant content into OLM and tried to play it. I can only see the TRY IT mode and not the see it mode. The buttons are not working either. I published the content in an LMS package and clicked the playback modes. I zipped the published files, replaced the XSD files with the Oracle recommended ones, and imported to a Learning Object. Now I can see the buttons, but they don't work.
I launched a single topic and uploaded that and now, I can see those. We have plenty of space for UPK content (10G remaining).
Any suggestions as to what I'm missing? My assumption is that it's in the way we publish our content...or just our content period. We used some Oracle files and it worked. So I know it's our files

We had to do a fresh install of UPK because some of our files were corrupt. We also had to increase the heap size on the middle tier where our content server is located. Also the TPC folder,depending on size,can be the issue. We had to FTP it

New Features for UPK with PeopleTools 8.53 and PeopleSoft 9.2

does anyone know, where I can find information about the effect or new features PeopleTools 8.53 and PeopleSoft 9.2 have especially for UPK 11.0.0?
I've searched a lot, but couldn't find any information of new features or changed integration of UPK in PeopleSoft according to the Upgrade.

Unable to connect to a Test database in UPK.

Hi everyone, I was wondering if someone could point me in the right direction. I recently had the Production version of UPK cloned to a virtual server and UPK is able to connect to the test database but when I launch UPK on my workstation and start the process of adding the Test Profile, it gives me an authentication error when I choose my current Windows login account to authenticate. I am running UPK version 3.6.1 and Oracle 10g database on a different server. What could be causing this issue and how can I fix it? Please advise.

Can you test network connectivity with your Unix Server with a Telnet on your DirectAccess client. If it works, problem is not located on server-side but on DirectAccess client-side. Maybe your SSH client force IPv4 use (using IPv4 to connect instead
of hostnames, or legacy DLL use). I had a similar case with a client-server application that only rely on IPv4. I had to cheat with NETSH.EXE PORTPROXY as illustrated in my blog post :

Best Practice for UPK implementation

We will start using UPK tool in our Oracle E-Business Suite (11.5.10) environment soon.
We are in a process of configuring the tool and making a standard template for training documents.
For example, which screen resolution? which font size and color, bubble icon, pointer position, task bar setting, and etc.
If anyone have any best practice document to share, I will appreciate it.

Anyone running UPK 3.5 (Server) on Windows 2003-64 bit?

I am trying to install UPK 3.5 Server on Windows 2003-64 bit, with the Oracle 11g client, connecting to an 11.1.0.7 Oracle database that's on a remote server. The installation is failing with a connectivity error that I suspect is related to the 64-bit configuration. But before I throw in the towel and revert to Windows 2003-32 bit, I thought I'd see if anyone out there is successfully using the 64-bit version who can help me out.

Ok, So I am finally able to install UPK 3.5.1 on Windows 2008 Server 64 bit.
My database sit on linux machine which is OEL 5 64 bit.
Now , I am facing different issues :( .. like windows authntication and user privilges even though the user i am using in installer has SYSDBA privilges still it doesnt take it
installation guide is pathetic .. sorry to say ..
my solution was this ..
The development team has gotten back to me. They have requested stated the following:
"This error is an Oracle message. We have addressed this particular error a few times. The error message indicates that our installer is not finding an Oracle ODBC driver to use to make the connection. The installer looks in the registry for the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ODBC\ODBCINST.INI\ODBC Drivers key to find any with "Oracle" in the name to try connecting with. Please get a screenshot of this registry key."
If the registry is empty, please attach the screenshot and navigate to: http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/tech/oci/instantclient/index.html.
Unzip the 32 bit into C:\Oracle\instantclient_11_1_X32 folder. You have to unzip both the instantclient-basic-win32-11.1.0.6.0.zip and instantclient-odbc-win32-11.1.0.6.0.zip.
After unzipping, run the odbc_install.exe this will install and register the driver for the 32 bit into the (HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\ODBC\ODBCINST.INI\ and HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\ODBC\ODBCINST.INI\ODBC Drivers).
