Uploading a File with AppleScript via JavaScript

Hi everybody,
being new to AppleScripting and JavaScripting I'm faced with the following problem:
Is it possible to make AppleScript to input the path for a file to be uploaded via JavaScript? If yes, what should be the correct Path Format and how to wrap it up the JavaScript action into AppleScript? I've tried a few comands but to no success.
On the webpage in question, there's a "Choose" button, that is defined as follows:
<input type="file" class="gwt-FileUpload" name="swfFile">
I've been trying to use the following syntax:
do JavaScript "document.getElementsByName('swfFile')[0].value('Macintosh HD:Users:myaccount:Desktop:Scrapbook:!动画.swf')" in document 1
as well as this one, where the Path is definitelly understood by shellscript:
do JavaScript "document.getElementsByName('swfFile')[0].value('/Users/myaccount/Desktop/Scrap book/!动画.swf')" in document 1
The name of the file is (and must remain) in chinese, but for testing purposes I have also tried files with english names, without success.
Currently I'm using a solution with JavaScript comand:
do JavaScript "document.getElementsByName('swfFile')[0].click()" in document 1
to click the finder  window to browse for the file, and manipulating  keystrokes by using System Events to find the right file, but it's not  infallible with a number of files and it's hardly an ellegant sollution.
Any idea what I'm doing wrong?
Cheers!

@twtwtw
the do JavaScript "document.forms[0].submit()" command didn't work, so I kept the original way of submitting by clicking the button. The submitting part works, but not the input file part.
That's the code I used
    tell application "Safari"
        do JavaScript "document.getElementById('gwt-uid-13').value='on'" in document 1
        do JavaScript "document.forms[0].elements['swfFile'].value=" & "'" & SWFFilePath & "'" in document 1
        do JavaScript "document.getElementsByClassName('gwt-SubmitButton')[0].click()" in document 1
        delay 1
    end tell
with SWFFilePath set as the POSIX path as well as the default file format
Macintosh HD:Users:myaccount:Desktop:Scrapbook:!动画.swf'
but it did not work.
If you've got the time, feel free to upload an .swf. The service is free and the server delats uploaded files after 15 min. (if you don't have any, you may try an empty .txt file instead - it won't get converted, but the point is just to get it into the input box).
In the meantime, I'll have a look at adayzdone's suggestion. It's not perfect (the downside being that it requires the window to be active, so I can't run the script in the background or with my screensaver & password on), but it's still more reliable than my sollution with navigating arrowkeyes.

    Hi guys,
    Does anybody know how to upload large file (>100 MB) use applet to servlet with http via post method? Thanks in advance.
    Regards,
    Mark.

    Hi SuckRatE
    Thanks for your reply. Could you give me some client side code to upload a large file. I use URL to connect to server. It throws out of memory exception. The part of client code is below:
    // connect to the servlet
    URL theServlet = new URL(servletLocation);
    URLConnection servletConnection = theServlet.openConnection();
    // inform the connection that we will send output and accept input
    servletConnection.setDoInput(true);
    servletConnection.setDoOutput(true);
    // Don't used a cached version of URL connection.
    servletConnection.setUseCaches (false);
    servletConnection.setDefaultUseCaches(false);
    // Specify the content type that we will send text data
    servletConnection.setRequestProperty("Content-Type",
    +"application/octet-stream");
    // send the user string to the servlet.
    OutputStream outStream = servletConnection.getOutputStream();
    FileInputStream filein = new FileInputStream(largeFile);
    //BufferedReader in = new BufferedReader(new InputStreamReader
    +(servletConnection.getInputStream()));
    //System.out.println("tempCurrent = "+in.readLine());
    byte abyte[] = new byte[2048];
    int cnt = 0;
    while((cnt = filein.read(abyte)) > 0)
    outStream.write(abyte, 0, cnt);
    filein.close();
    outStream.flush();
    outStream.close();

  • Upload multiple files WITH correct pairs of form fields into Database

    In my form page, I would like to allow 3 files upload and 3 corresponding text fields, so that the filename and text description can be saved in database table in correct pair. Like this:
    INSERT INTO table1 (filename,desc) VALUES('photo1.jpg','happy day');
    INSERT INTO table1 (filename,desc) VALUES('photo2.jpg','fire camp');
    INSERT INTO table1 (filename,desc) VALUES('photo3.jpg','christmas night');

  • Firefox 4.0 support for printing embedded PDF files in iFrames via JavaScript

    I recently upgraded to Firefox 4.0 and can no longer print embedded PDF documents contained in an iFrame.
    My company's web application has several pages which load PDF files from a Servlet into an iFrame. The pages in question all have "Print" buttons which when clicked executes a JavaScript function to obtain reference to the iframe containing the PDF, place it into focus() (e.g., frames['pdfdoc'].focus();), and invoke print() (e.g., frames['pdfdoc'].print();). There are no errors, or exceptions caught when the JavaScript function is invoked, but the "Print" button is no longer operational.
    Does Firefox 4.0 no longer support iFrames? The issue goes away if I revert back to ver 3.6.16

    I have same issue for printing embedded PDF files in iFrames via JavaScript in Firefox 5.0.
    In previous versions it was working fine. But not in Firefox 4.0/5.0.
    Is there any solution for this problem?

    Yes, but you are limited to uploading to the server from where the applet was originating from.

  • Upload multiple files to iphone via wifi - completely freeze

    Hi,
    I upload files to iphone via wifi and air sharing app a lot. Just connect with finder and drag&drop files one at a time and everything is fine, but when you select more files and try to copy them to iphone together Leopard completely freeze. Totally. You cannot force quit finder, cannot run activity monitor, cannot kill finder in terminal or even restart the computer. Just shut down with holding the power button...
    What's wrong? :/
    (sorry for english;)

    when i had around 50 reports to move from local to server , best idea is to a )  place all your reports in C:\..\My Documents\PC_NW\..domain1..\..username..\AppInfo\..appsetname..\..application..\eExcel\Reports  (local folder )
    b)  open BPC excel -> etools-> Save Dynamic templates -> reports
    c) Select Local folder select all the files you want to copy ,and right click copy
    d) Select Company folder paste files

  • Unable to upload a file with Drag and Drop and http

    Hello,
    I am trying to upload a file through the web interface (Netscape 4.7 and IE 5.0). When I click un upload, Via Drag and Drop, a new window is started, but never completes.
    With Netscape, I get a message box: Netscape is unable to locate the server null. Please check the server name and try again.
    With IE 5, I get an error: This page can not be displayed.
    Are there any files I need to edit on the PC side to get this to work?
    Thanks
    Scott
    PS I think you guys are doing a great job with support on iFS.

    WebUI Drag & Drop requires FTP to be running and available.
    Drag & Drop is really just uses the browser built in FTP ability.

  • Upload large file on doSubmit in javascript

    Hi all,
    I'm currently having some problems uploading large files using a custom Upload button (button calls doSubmit from javascript).
    When using an Upload button with unconditional branch to the same page (no js) it works perfectly. Now I have to use my own Upload button that calls some javascript and AJAX and then Submit the page (with doSubmit); in this case I can only upload very small files (< 100k) ...
    I understand the mechanism of the file browse and its uploading to the table WWV_FLOW_FILE_OBJECTS, but I cannot figure out why my configuration does not work when it does stricly the same but from js ...
    Someone experienced the same issue ? How to submit the upload in javascript side with doSubmit ??
    Best regards,
    Othman

    Hi Othman,
    did you find a solution for this. I'm facing nearly the same problem, I'm calling a popup, where the user can upload up to 5 files. Then on clicking a button, javascript is called, that's calling the doSubmit and some others things and at the end the popup is closed.
    Sometimes the upload of 5 files is working, sometimes only 1 file is possible (obvisiously it's depending on the filesize).
    function addFile()
    doSubmit('FILE');
    opener.actualizeProject('TAB4');
    close();

    My problem is not to retrieve the file but to upload
    it. I checked the examples and only saw examples for
    retrieving a BLOB or CLOB, but not for inserting it
    into the database
    Maybe I am blind ... if so, please publish your link
    to the example.The page at:
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/sample_code/tech/java/sqlj_jdbc/files/advanced/advanced.html
    Has a subsection that reads:
    LOB Datatype [19-Feb-2003]
    The term large object (LOB) refers to a data item that is too large to be stored directly in a database table. This sample application demonstrates how to read and write LOB datatype.The Oracle JDBC drivers provide support for two types of LOBs: BLOBs (unstructured binary data) and CLOBs (character data). BLOB and CLOB data is accessed and referenced using a locator stored in the database table.
    Download Now (ZIP, 76KB)
    Readme
    Source
    The zip is a standalone Java application that will create any needed tables, populate them with example data (both LOBs and CLOBs) from the data files in the zip and then put up a Swing gui that will allow you to add additional LOB and CLOB data to the table. Everything is there, the readme explains the 2 properties files you need to edit. The only other thing besides reading comprehension that you need to supply is DB connection information with the necessary privileges.
    The Source link is a link to the main code, but does not include all the code in the package. However, it contains the code to write CLOBs and BLOBs into the database.
    The Readme explains everything. It also has code excerpts, including the code used to read the sample data from file and write it into the LOBs and CLOBs.

  • AppleScript via JavaScript (doScript in Photoshop)

    Hi everyone,
    I was looking for a way to execute AS from JS to bind my AS on hotkey.
    I found a thread with this code in there:
    // JavaScript
    var myscr = new File('/C/1/book/my.vbs');
    if (myscr.exists) {
    app.doScript(myscr, ScriptLanguage.visualBasic)
    do I thought that I'll create a .jsx file with this code and it'll work
    var myscr = new File('/Users/macintosh/Documents/Adobe Scripts/enter.applescript');
    if (myscr.exists) {
    app.doScript(myscr, applescriptLanguage)
    but it didn't
    I fought that the problem is that doScript is from inDesign/Illustrator and tried doAction but it seems it's only for Actions.
    Please explain me what am I doing wrong?
    Kind regards, Sergey

    Take a look at the documentation each of Adobe's apps differs in its scripted commands. ID has 'do script' in given language (the best of the bunch) Photoshop will let AppleScript & Visual Basic do JavaScript. Illustrator is like Photoshop except you can pass an arguments array to the command…
    File.execute(); did NOT work with my quick test the calling JavaScript:
    #target photoshop
    var appleScript = new File('~/Desktop/Test.app');
    if (appleScript.exists) appleScript.execute();
    The AppleScript compiled and saved as 'Application' in on run statement…
    on run
    tell application "Adobe Photoshop CS2"
    activate
    if exists document 1 then
    set Doc_Ref to current document
    tell Doc_Ref
    set Doc_Name to name
    display alert "Testing" message ¬
    Doc_Name giving up after 2
    end tell
    else
    display alert "Script Error" message ¬
    "No document is open." as warning giving up after 2
    end if
    end tell
    end run

  • Upload text files with non-english characters

    I use an Apex page to upload text files. Then i retrieve the contents of files from wwv_flow_files.blob_content and convert them to varchar2 with utl_raw.cast_to_varchar2, but characters like ò, à, ù become garbage.
    What could be the problem? Are characters lost when files are stored in wwv_flow_files or when i do the conversion?
    Some other info:
    * I see wwv_flow_files.DAD_CHARSET is set to "ascii", wwv_flow_files.FILE_CHARSET is null.
    * Trying utl_raw.cast_to_varchar2( utl_raw.cast_to_raw('àòèù') ) returns 'àòèù' correctly;
    * NLS_CHARACTERSET parameter is AL32UTF8 (not just english ASCII)

    Hi Silvia,
    If the fields are correct in the transfer structure (only 2 fields). Then check whether the field length and type has been defined correctly for both the fields.
    If thats not a problem then try to load only upto PSA.
    If you are using IDOC as your transfer method then go to the "details" tab of the monitor of the error request and see the details. It will give you the correct picture of the error.
    Bye

    I have one more doubt,
    I am uploading the file to one folder called "uploaded". Before uploading a fresh file, i want to delete all existing files in that folder. IS that possible ?? If yes, can you please tell me how to do that ??
    Regards, Thanks for your time.
