Uplod of file with Kingsoft Spreadsheet
Dear all,
We are having an existing T-CODE "ZMM01" for uploading the material master. As this t-code is uploading the files perfectly when file format is in Microsoft excel. But it is not uploading the same file if that is in Kingsoft Spreadsheet. Function Module used in the program is " ALSM_EXCEL_TO_INTERNAL_TABLE". Kindly Suggest.
MOVE p_file TO filename_exl.

Create spreadsheet file with a fixed number of rows
What is the most straight forward way to create a series of spreadsheet files each with a new file name and fixed number of rows. We have a data acquisition process that creates a new 1D array every 2 seconds. We'd like to build a series of spreadsheet files each having two hours or 3600 rows of data. Is there a best way to do this in LV9?
johnUse the low-level FileI/O Vis with Write to Text File.vi where you open a new file with every N iteration like this:
You just have to convert your 1D Array to string before.
If you would like to have a new file every N hours you should create a FGV which checks the elapsed time using Get Date/Time in Seconds.vi, which is more appropriate for longtime applications.

Error 5 occurred at Open/Create/Replace File in Write spreadsheet String.vi
Hi everyone,
can anyone help me with this problem?
"error 5 occurred at Open/Create/Replace File in Write spreadsheet String.vi "
I've been using this part of the program for over a year an suddenly this error occures. But not always, mainly at the very beginning of my tests when the file should not be open.
Info: I'm using a realtime PXI-System. Maybe the amount of data can cause the problem? (about 2MB)

error5.jpg 52 KBHi Meike,
is the file opened by a different program? Do you try to access it by FTP in parallel to your VI?
You could use basic file functions instead of WriteSpreadsheetFile. That way you could open the file before starting the loop, keep it open all the time and close it once you're finished - with the added benefit of easier error handling…

How do I get the Layout Guides (A,B,C column headers and 1,2,3 Row Headers) to print on my spreadsheet? They are invaluable for discussing the data with my clients over the phone.
They appear while I am editing, but don't print with the spreadsheet. I know how to do it in Excel, but I am transitioning to Numbers. I can't imagine I have to type them into their own columns and rows. It must be a difference in vernacular that I can't find the solution in the User Guide. Can anyone help?Hi ktjobauer,
Numbers is not Excel and Excel is not Numbers. Numbers is WYSIWYG (at least in File > Print and the actual printout).
I can't imagine I have to type them into their own columns and rows.
No, you don't. You can use the charm of Numbers to create cell references for your Excel clients.
In this Numbers Table, I have added some extra Columns that you can hide later.
Column B =COLUMN(A2)
Column C =HLOOKUP(B2,'Table 1-1' :: $1:$2,2,FALSE) [explanation later]
Column D =ROW(B2)
Column E =C2&D2
Add those formulas to the first Body Row (below the Header Row) and Fill Down.
Column C refers to another Table which you need only create once, to convert a Column number to a letter:
and so on from 1-26, A-Z.
You can move the second Table to another Sheet to hide it. Formulas will automatically adjust to keep the links between Sheets.
Now in the first Table, select and Hide Columns B,C,D. Formulas will continue to work with hidden cells:

Exporting text files with song names and artist names only
I need help exporting a playlist as a text file. I know how to do this already,(right click playlist and select "export song list...") but when i open it up in notepad, it is unorganized and is very hard to read. I am burning a disc for my mom and pasting the playlist on the back of the cd cover. I dont want to type out every artist and song name. Help is appreciated.
do you have a copy of Excel (or a different spreadsheet) on the PC, kevin? if so, try opening the text file with that. then it's relatively easy to remove information by deleting the columns of info that you don't want.

Import DV AVI Files with 5.1 Audio
To my surprise, Encore would not import DV AVI files from Premiere with 5.1 Audio. I much prefer to do my transcoding in Encore rather than in Premiere so I don't have to guess how much disk space will remain after menus and other content. Also, I think Encore transcoding is more efficient than Premiere.
Yet, cheaper and less sophisticated applications such as Nerovision will import DV AVI files with 5.1 audio, and give you 5.1 DVD's.
Which leads to another question, why does a cheaper application just give you the Dolby Digital 5.1 Audio, while a fee has to be paid to Surcode to get it in the Adobe applications? You cannot create a 5.1 Dolby Digital file in Encore, so the answer is an emphatic "YES" to the planning & budgeting.
You really should be doing this anyway, as it is a real eye opener. There are some superb Excel spreadsheet bit budgeting tools, as well as a simple enough manual method. It should be detailed in the FAQ.
As far as DTS goes, you'll need an encoder again. The only plugin version I am aware of is for Steinberg's Nuendo & Cubase systems, but both DTS and SurCode make them.
The SurCode DTS-DVD encoder is dated now - 5 years or so - and the Nuendo one sounds better. Having said that, the DTS-PSE sounds even better, as well as having DTS-ES and DTS 96/24 capability (both of which are DVD Legal).
Even better are the soon-to-be-released DTS-HD SAS & MAS encoders.
These are primarily for the Blue-ish type discs, but also cater for so-called "legacy" encoding as well, and the detail is even better than the DTS-PSE version. You can hear the difference in the detail where the top end sounds more natural & open. Whatever version you get will make Dobly Dirgital sound dull & muddy by comparison.
Quality can be improved by feeding the encoder with 24 bit audio too - this also applies to Dolby Digital.
Bitrates for DTS are either 754 kb/sec or 1509 kb/sec, and come in 2 flavours:
Compact (.cpt) and Padded (.dts) - either can use the lower bitrate, and there is no difference in audio quality between the CPT and DTS flavours. I recommend using the higher bitrate personally.
Both types are supported in Passthrough mode in Encore - that is to say they import, and multiplex correctly but cannot be previewed.
Hope this helps. -
How to read columns of a Microsoft Excel .csv file with LabVIEW?
This should be simple. Any ideas on how to read an Excel file with csv extension using LabVIEW?
Thanks!Use the Read From SpeadSheet File.VI which you can find on the FILE I/O pallette.
"Read From Spreadsheet File
Reads a specified number of lines
or rows from a numeric text file beginning at a specified character offset and
converts the data to a 2D, single-precision array of numbers. You optionally can transpose the
array. The VI opens the file before reading from it and closes it afterwards.
You can use this VI to read a spreadsheet file saved in text format. This VI
calls the Spreadsheet String
to Array function to convert the data."
The CSV file is essentially a text file which uses commas as delimiters in the files structure. -
I need a little help help with the Spreadsheet 9 ActiveX control
Here's the situation: I want to import data from an Excel file to the MS Office Spreadsheet 9.0 ActiveX control on the LV front page. I can retrieve the data just fine but I can't get it to display in the control on the front page. I can select a range and when I try to write to the Value property I find that I cannot. The problem seems to be the Value property itself cannot handle 2-D data arrays. I can select a 2D range and write a single value which gets written to every cell in the range but when I read the data I get only the first cell in the range and an error if I try to caste the Variant output to a 2D array.
I've noticed a Value2 property for the range when actually working with Excel but I haven't been able to determine where or if it exists for the Spreadsheet 9 control. I've attached a little test program to better show what I'm experiencing/talking about. Anyone have any suggestions on this? It seems like it would be possible or else why have the control there but I haven't found a way around it. Thanks in advance.

Hey Gary,
What version of MS Office does the 9.0 ActiveX control come with. I have version 11.0 here. I could get your program working on my computer but I had to reinitialize the activex control to the 11.0 control. I also had to reselect the properties. All the properties are essentially the same except Value. In this ActiveX version, I see the Value2 property (the Value property does not exist). And your method of reading and writing to the Value2 property handles 2D arrays.
If you can tell me what version of Office you are using, I will try to find a computer with that version and try your program.

Most of the computers have Office 2000 which uses the Value property and the Spreadsheet 9.0 control. I too have been able to duplicate it ona computer with Office 2000 (Spreadsheet 11.0). I think it may just be a functionality of the Excel version though for some reason if I use Excel and go through the song and dance with the methods and properties, I get to the Value2 property.
After writing that it seems weird that using Excel properties and methods gets me to the point where I can select the Value2 method and read/write accordigly, but with the Spreadsheet 9.0 control (which, I assume is simply embedding Excel in the app) I get to a different set of properties. Perhps Spreadsheet 10 (or 11) is on the computer but not showing up? That's the only sensible conclusion I can come to, though it seems weird for it to not show up on multiple computers which effectively kills that idea anyway.
Anyway. thanks for any help you can provide. -
my spreadsheet created with numbers program version 3.0 created on my mac won't work on my ipad version 2.0. It says I have to save the file with preview option but there is no such option in preferences. Any thoughts?
For the update to run Aperture must be installed in the system Application folder and named simply Aperture, not Aperture3.2.2 or anything else.
I don't know if this would also affect photo stream but if your Aperture is misnamed or installed in an incorrect location fixing that to see if it clears up the problem would be a good first step. -
Opening .xls file with Numbers
I saved a spreadsheet from Numbers '09 version 2.0 in .xls format and then tried to open it, but Numbers won't open it because off a reported problem with the plug-in to do that, "SFCompatibility plug-in." This used to work, I think. Perhaps the latest operating system update messed it up. (I have OS X 10.8.5.) Software update says there is no update for any of my apps. My Numbers software is in Applications/iWork '09.
I was not "fooled by Excel's ability to recognize the file format and apply the correct converter automaticallY"
What i mean is some people will export as a text file, but change the file extension to xls to force it to open excel when double clicked, and excel will open it just fine. Converting as it goes automaticaly and not even asking you any questions or putting up any errors.
I know because i just did it to validate my statement (I am working at a Windows machine at the moment), and it worked fine. Even though the file was actually a tab delimited file, with an XLS on the end. If excel was strict, it would have looked for a Binary XLS file and rejected the file.
This does NOT work with XLSX formats. You will get an error that its not formatted correctly. So if excel was able to recognize file formats and apply the correct converter automatically. they removed this ability in 2007+, only leaving it as legacy functionality.
Your statement would be accurate for plain txt files. But excel is NOT ablel to ID the format automatically.
Try saving a comma separated file with a TXT extension, then try to open it by selecting "files of type" All files, in an open dialog. It will start the converter for text files but will ALWAYS suggest Tab delimited. never the proper format if anything else. (we use Pipe | delimeted very often at work)
thereby I present you the possibility that it is you that has been fooled by Excel into thinking it knows what its doing

MadhuHi Madhu,
You might also consider using Excel Spreadsheet XML as the target structure (namespace is urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:spreadsheet). When you double-click the resulting xml on a PC it automatically opens with Excel. So, users don't see a difference. It will open up a lot of options with formatting including creating multiple worksheets if you wanted to. Best of all you can stick with XML.
See my response in this thread:

Export List of Files with no checked in version
I currently manage a SharePoint 2010 Library.
I have a large number of users who have files with no checked in version.
Is there a way of exporting the list of such files so the I can get the users to check them in?You could set up a filtered view using the Checked Out To column and set it to show only items that do not equal "an empty space". Sort this alphabetically and then either export this to a spreadsheet or distribute the url to the users.
This'll give them the ability to see what's checked out to who.

How to get string (specified by line and column) from txt file with labview
Hi everyone
How to get string (specified by line and column) from txt file with labview
thx
Solved!
Go to Solution. As far as I know, a text file has no columns. Please be more specific. Do you mean something like the 5th word on line 4, where words are separated by a space, and lines are separated by a newline character? You could the Read from Spreadsheet String function and set the delimiter to a space. This will produce a 2D array of strings. Then use index array and give the line number and column number.
