Upon installing Windows 10 I get an error message including "contains an invalid character"

Hi I upgraded from 8.1 to Windows 10 without any errors. Then when Skype tried to update, it came up with this error message "contains an invalid character". Does anybody know how to fix this within Windows 10? I have also tried to do a uninstall with the intention of re-installing Skype, but I get stopped with the same error as I try to uninstall. Also when I have tried to browse to different folders within the Skype updater software, it only shows me the desktop icon. I am not going to install any programme long term on my desktop. Any help appreciated. Thanks

I can confirm: a) The problem is fixed ANDb) There is no issue with having a space in the folder name. It turns out it cropped up due to Skype installation system having corrupted - in my case - during the upgrade to Windows 10. The solution that worked for me was using a Skype Removal Tool, re-start of the computer and then re-install that worked first time. The Skype Removal Toolcan be found at this URL: http://www.pcdust.com/Downloads/SRT/SRT.exe Also about being unable to browse to folders: I don't know if this is a deliberate MS thing, but I put the path to the folder (eg C:\users\YOURNAME\Skype) and it installed perfectly well.

Try downloading the trial. It ought to detect that you have a 64-bit system.
You aren't using Vista, are you? PSE 13 requires at least win 7 and I think a few folks with vista have gotten a similar error message on trying to install it.

I have received this error in the past and it is usually caused by Windows automatically changing your external drive letters when you install. There are two ways around it; first, follow the directions provided by b noir. Second, within iTunes go to Edit > Preferences > Advanced
Under the advanced options you'll see a recessed section called "iTunes Media folder location". Although you may have set this in the past it, if Windows changed your drive letters it will no longer be valid. Default is usually "C:\blah\blah\mymusic"
Changing it just a matter of clicking "change" and finding your music folder again or change your drive letter back (if it changed at all).
If Windows is changing your drive letters, it is best to set them yourself so that everytime you plug in the devices they use the letter you assigned. Here is a link for that process:

I'd start with the following document, with one modification. At step 12 after typing GEARAspiWDM press the Enter/Return key once prior to clicking OK. (Pressing Return adds a carriage return in the field and is important.)

If you're still getting the error message (especially when you plug in the Touch), I'd check for a device filter confusion on the PC. (They can affect the connection of USB devices to a PC, as well as burning and importing CDs.) For that one, see:

My Mountain Lion install failed for the following reason:
OS X can't be installed on the disk Macintosh HD, because a recovery system can't be created.

The page is about a different failure, but I'm assuming the reason for my failure is this one:
The disk has a non-standard Boot Camp partition setup, in which further partitioning was performed after running Boot Camp Assistant, or the configuration that Boot Camp Assistant created was manually modified.
The cure involves erasing the entire HD and starting from scratch, which in my case would involve backing up both the Mac and Windows sides, setting up Boot Camp again, reinstalling Windows XP and recovering everything from backups on both sides. I would rather not have Mountain Lion than go through all that, and I think it's unfair for Apple to expect me to.
Because I don't recall doing anything off-piste when I set up Boot Camp in the first place (for a start, I'm not clever enough), I consider this episode an inadequacy in the Mountain Lion installer. As I won't be using the download, is it possible to get my money back?

Wow, what an ordeal. First tried running the cleaner, then
re-installing 11.0.6 -- didn't work (and that was after several attempts
at reinstalling the Lexmark printer drivers and associated utilities,
which didn't help either).
Then tried a system restore to last week, when the print was working OK.
-- Didn't fix it.
Then tried cleaning and restoring 11.0.6 -- didn't work.
Then tried cleaning and restoring to version 10. Now printing works
fine and system seems back to normal.
Apparently, 11.0.6, which was working fine for a while, didn't like some
other system update, but version 10 is not bothered by that.
Thanks for your continued help and interest -- without your link to find
option for installing older versions, I'd still be stuck.

You're ignoring context. On the old Apple Discussion Groups I never posted replies like that, instead giving people relatively detailed answers. The new Apple Support Communities made things worse by introducing certain inefficiencies. Then came Lion. The flood of messages that came with Lion required a painful choice for any of the people who had been helping here: (1) Give quality responses to a few questions and ignore the rest. With the subscription you sign in with your Adobe ID that you used to order the subscription. By installation code, I assume you mean serial number. You do not get one with the subscription, but use your Adobe ID.

That's the problem. Even with no base stations available you should eventually within a few minutes get a self-assigned IP of 169.x.x.x!

Maybe you could manually configure an IP but that doesn't answer what's wrong. How about a simple test - create a new Location in Network System Preferences and see if that helps. If it doesn't then maybe a re-install of Airport or System software would help. If the Airport shows up as an available network port then the card is probably OK.

I copied the file from one folder to another one, and then I got a DIFFERENT error.
All I know is the last time I ran an upgrade to apple products, I lost my entire library, AND my I pod.
So I have been avoiding updates.. I finally try one and again, the silly thing acts up.
If this is the quality of Apple software then Im going to stop updating at all.

Every time when I try and send an email from windows live I get an error message from WebKit2WebProcess.exe.
Not sure if I deactivate this from Windows live whether I will compromise my security.

Thank you Matt. I'm sure this will be frustrating ...but the more I think about this problem there more info I have to share. The emails I write that do not get sent do end up in my "sent" folder but never reach the recipient. And, most perplexing, the issue/problem is sporadic. It was coming and going before I switched over to the SSL/TLS option in T-bird. And...since the switch it has reappeared and disappeared. I have made zero changes other than the above mentioned. I did get a security update today for T-bird perhaps this will help?

Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try another iTunes install. Does it go through properly this time?
