URGENT ! Macbook pro becomes very hot in my bag when on sleep
My wife's macbook pro 15 320 G 7200, became hot to the point we couldn't touch it. Iwas on sleep in her bag. This also happens to a friend macbook pro 15 last week.
Any thought except from turning off the bluteooth wake computer thing ?
Could this sets fire ?
I am observing similar symptoms on the following hardware:
Model Name: MacBook Pro
Model Identifier: MacBookPro5,3
Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo
Processor Speed: 2.66 GHz
Number Of Processors: 1
Total Number Of Cores: 2
L2 Cache: 3 MB
Memory: 4 GB
Bus Speed: 1.07 GHz
Boot ROM Version: MBP53.00AC.B03
SMC Version (system): 1.48f2
I have 10.5.8 installed
Observations:
Sleep works fine after I close the lid shortly after a restart.
After working for some time I need to manually sleep the machine otherwise the described symptoms (fan running, machine is getting hot in its bag) occur.
I suspect it's a software issue and try to narrow down which apps might be involved.
(Safari and System Profiler seem to be OK so far)

Mid-2010 Macbook Pro running very hot
Hi all,
My mid-2010 Macbook pro is running very hot. On average CPU is 61-70 degrees Celsius, sometimes even more. I'm pretty bad at having lots of chrome tabs open and heavy multitasking, but even when I'm not temperature still ends up very high and fan rpm can get to over 6000. Heat seems to be concentrated to the lefthand side of the touchpad (battery area?). I'm running 10.9.3.
Current stats below from iStat pro widget (smcFanControl concurs with these temps), with only the following pic's activity running. Laptop currently balanced on two books (so airflow around the sides) which are in turn on my lap.
I have tried reseting the SMC with the shift-control-option-power method but it doesn't seem to have worked - instructions said to press and hold this, then release, then press power again to boot, but laptop boots up from this combination anyway.
Am I just doing something wrong or will this be an expensive trip to the apple store to fix?Hey happyhaskins,
If you are having an issue with your MacBook Pro running excessively hot, I would suggest that you troubleshoot using the steps in this article -

MacBook Pro Runs VERY HOT while sleeping after Mavericks update.
My MacBook Pro (2009 model) runs super hot while it's sleeping after upgrading to Mavericks. Additionally the fans run at a very high speed. This issue was not present before the upgrade.
I'm concerned that there is a bug that's going to shorten the life of my machine as it will lieterally run all night like this.
Has anyone else experienced this, and is there a solution?Others have reported an issue with their systems after upgrading to Mavericks that might be related in https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5497235
No fix is posted yet, but you might want to check to see if you have the kernel_task process using 100% CPU after coming out of sleep, and if plugging/unplugging headphones stops that task from using so much CPU.
It shouldn't be the new Power Nap feature in Mavericks, as your system appears to be too old to support it, but you should check your settings to see if it's enabled: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5394 -
My macbook pro gets very hot when running anything like games or videos
I just bought a macbook pro 2.3 GHZ i7 with retina display. It gets very hot when running just about anything of substance. When I run a game like candy crush, the temperature can get to 167 or more. I installed istat menus and started monitoring it. I did notice that the fans never went on but after istats I was able to make them come on. Without having a game going, the temperatures hover around 100. Once the game starts, it goes crazy.
I don't really know what the problem could be or if this is normal (it really can't be....This is way too hot). I have owned the computer for about 2 months and I need to know what to do.You are still under warranty. Call Apple Care. Make sure you get a case number as all repairs have an additional 90 days of warranty.
#1 - You have 14 days from the date of purchase to return your computer with no questions asked.
#2 - You have 90 days of FREE phone tech support.
#3 - You have the standard one year Apple warranty.
#4 - If you've purchased an AppleCare Protection Plan, your warranty last for 3 years. You can obtain AppleCare anytime up to the first year of the purchase of your computer.
Take FULL advantage of your warranty. Posting on a message board should be done as a last resort and if you are out of warranty or Apple Care has expired. -
Has anyone noticed that your Macbook Pro is really hot after installing Lion?
Since I have installed Lion on Friday, I have noticed that my MacBook Pro is very hot to the touch. Has anyone found this same issue?
Haven't had any of the problems that other people have had since installing.
What are your thoughts out there?
Thanks,
MichelleI had this same concern on mine as well until I remembered that Lion would have to index the entire drive. My MBP is using an 120GB Intel SSD so once indexing started it did not take long, about 2 hours with the drive at 59GB, but it was warm the entire time.
My iMac (2011 version) ran hot for around 6 hours with the standard 1TB drive about half full.
Since then I have noticed they both run a few degrees hotter than before but nothing I am concerning myself with as it's right around 100 to 100 degrees versus 90 to 100 with SL. So I beleive there are some services running that are doing alot, probably the biggy is the autosave feature. -
My MacBook Pro is really hot and the fan is on constantly. It didn't use to do this, does anyone know why this is happening? I have a very short battery life, so I have to keep it plugged in probably more than I should.
Open Activity Monitor in the Utilities folder. Select All Processes from the Processes dropdown menu. Click twice on the CPU% column header to display in descending order. If you find a process using a large amount of CPU time, then select the process and click on the Quit icon in the toolbar. Click on the Force Quit button to kill the process. See if that helps. Be sure to note the name of the runaway process so you can track down the cause of the problem.

MacBook Pro running very slowly - please see EtreCheck report
My MacBook Pro (mid 2012 model) has become very slow and unresponsive recently. Pretty much any click or command I make there is a delay, and often the coloured spinning wheel appears for a few seconds until it executes the command. Very frustrating. I know this is a popular question, but I've pasted my EtreCheck report below, s others have done. Any tips on what I should do would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

MacBook Pro 2011 get hot and noise all the time and slowly ?
hi. why MacBook Pro get too hot and make a noise all the time i have Yosemite ,mac late 2011 and became very slow?
Games are very CPU/GPU intensive applications and will heat up the MBP. That will result in the fans increasing speed in order to dissipate the heat. This actually is an expected result and for the type of application, is 'normal'.
I you plan to play a lot of games, consider getting a cooling pad twhich will tend to mitigate the heating.

Is it normal for the casing of an iMac to become very hot?
The casing on my imac becomes very hot to the touch at the top of the casing. Also the screen is becoming hot. Any ideas on the cause please?
I suggest downloading iStat Pro or iStat Menus (easily found using your favorite search engine). Then you'll be able to see exactly what your machine is doing at any given time and the associated temperatures and fan speeds.
I have an 2.8GHz i7 27" iMac. These are the temps I see under most conditions (per iStat Pro):
HD: 90F
CPU: 115F
GPU Diode: 120F
GPU Heatsink: 117F
Mem Controller: 103F
Optical Drive: 85F
Power Supply2: 115F
The hottest part of the case is the top left corner most of the time.
When my machine is really cranking (when encoding video, for example) I've seen the CPU and power supply temps get up to around 130-140F. -
Mac Book becomes very hot within munutes (67 C- 72 C)
I recently got a new macbook. It looks cool and all but got a big problem.
The notebook becomes very hot within minutes of usage.
I have downloaded the cpu temperature measurement utility and
got these readings.
a) 15 minutes of usage (67 Degree Centigrade, hot enought to
melt wax)
b) 30 minutes of usage (72 Degree centigrade)
After googling this topic, I see that many of the users of macbook are facing the same problem. Does apple intend to do
anything about this problem.
I have used sony vaio and dell in the past.
Never noticed any
heating problems with them.
macbook Mac OS X (10.4.4) NewThat's about the range I see for normal usage with a browser, mail, and itunes open. You must take into consideration the current room temperature. I've seen screenshots of MacBooks running up to 5 apps with temp is the 50s while others - like you and me - have temperatures in the high 60s low 70s.

My iPhone 5s with iOS 7.1 become very hot when charged almost reach 100 % and will shut down itself. Then I need to off the power and let it cool down first before I can on the phone back. Please help me to solve this problem. Thanks.
Hi Limfromsi,
It is normal to an extent for the iPhone to get warm during charging. If your iPhone is currently in a case, you may want to try charging it without one and see if the issue occurs, as the design of the iPhone uses the exterior of the device as a cooling surface. For more information about iPhones and temperature, you may find the following article helpful:
iOS devices: Keeping device within acceptable operating temperatures

If you continue to have issues with your iPhone in the default config (no case, using the included original cable and power adapter), you may want to have your phone evaluated for service. The following page may be of use:

my 3 year-old macbook pro is very slow. I have run disk utility and virus scan with no improvement. The "beach ball" will spin for minutes at a time when opening, closing or changing windows. Apple Store looked at it a few months ago with no help. What can I do?
Under CPU: 3.5% user; 5% system; 91% idle; 441 threads; 90 processes.
Under System: out of 2GB - 54.7MB free; 530MB wired; 603MB active; 862MB inactive; 1.95GB used.
Is too much of the system memory tied up? If so, what can I do to free some up? -

Mar 26, 2015, 08:20:29 AM /Users/[redacted]/Library/Logs/DiagnosticReports/plugin-container_2015-03-26-08 2029_[redacted].crashI’ve tried running 10.10 on quite a few different computers with 4GB of RAM and a standard mechanical hard drive and all of them performed worse with Yosemite than they did with Mavericks (10.9). And about a year ago I found that they performed better with Mt Lion (10.8) than Mavericks. Each version of the Mac OS has required more memory than the version that came before it and that means that every couple of years the minimum acceptable RAM is increased. Apple signaled this quietly at the Apple Store - only one computer now ships with 4GB of RAM. (And I can tell you from personal experience that in that configuration it is not fun to use.)
Bottom line: you need at least 8GB of RAM or an SSD. Both are better. In the meantime run as lean a machine as possible. MacKeeper is a waste of money no matter what anyone might tell you. At best it is not necessary and is a waste of money.
