Url for JDBC

hi guys,
well, i have a bit of problem here
i have a semesteral project which require us to setup a database
however, i'm not sure if the school will allow us to use the school server
so i would like to know if the url that is passed to getConnection() method can be from a disk drive, e.g:
String url = "jdbc:ids:d:\database.mdb
thanks!!

Not sure on the url method. However if you have access on the machine to the ODBC setup you would then create an odbc for jet connection to the mdb file. Name it whatever, say "projdb".
Now in your code you would access it like so:
Class.forName( "sun.jdbc.odbc.JdbcOdbcDriver" );
Connection con = DriverManager.getConnection("jdbc:odbc:projdb","","" );

    Hi jwenting,
    I tried following URL in PL/SQL developer and my fail over is working fine with separate nodes, Only thing i did was i keep SID of both nodes with same name.
    ERS=(DESCRIPTION=(FAILOVER=on)(LOAD_BALANCE=off)(ADDRESS_LIST=(ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=TCP)(HOST=172.21.5.130)(PORT=1521))(ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=TCP)(HOST=172.21.5.133)(PORT=1521)))(CONNECT_DATA=(SID=orcl)))
    But strange when i connected this through JDBC URL like following it gives me error of invalid URL
    jdbc:oracle:thin:@(DESCRIPTION=(FAILOVER=on)(LOAD_BALANCE=off)(ADDRESS_LIST=(ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=TCP)(HOST=172.21.5.130)(PORT=1521))(ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=TCP)(HOST=172.21.5.133)(PORT=1521)))(CONNECT_DATA=(SID=orcl)))

  • JDBC URL for Two Oracle Nodes with different SID

    Hi All,
    I have two DB nodes which are running independently (Mean no RAC), I want to configure JDBC URL for these nodes that if one node goes down my application automatically connected to second one.
    Both nodes have different HOST and SID but the tables i am going to access have same structure. we are using this DB for some logging purpose that's why we didn't choose RAC option.
    Regards,
    imran

    For RAC database, I used:
    jdbc:oracle:thin:@(DESCRIPTION=(LOAD_BALANCE=on)(ADDRESS_LIST=(ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=TCP)(HOST=hostname)(PORT=port))(ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=TCP)(HOST=hostname)(PORT=port)))(CONNECT_DATA=(SERVICE_NAME=servicename)))
    For non RAC database you could ommit LOAD_BALANCE setting, and set correct hostname & port for both nodes. We connected using common service name. If your databases have different service names, then the SID will have to be part of ADDRESS somehow - maybe (SID=sid).
    I have to mention though that unless the main reason behind your decision was lower cost without RAC (and you don't need to store any information apart from logs), it was a wrong decision. If you decide to store any additional information in the database for whatever reason (new requirements), you are in trouble.

  • Can't use JDBC URL for multiple LDAPs

    ColdFusion 8,0,1,195765 Enterprise (Trial)
    We use Oracle OID (LDAP) instead of tnsnames.ora to resolve database connection strings. This is how I specify one LDAP JDBC URL. On the CF admin page, Server Settings, Java and JVM, ColdFusion Class Path is set to C:\oracle\product\10.2.0\db_1\jdbc\lib\ojdbc14.jar. Under Data & Services, Data Sources, create a new source. Set JDBC URL to
    jdbc:oracle:thin:@ldap://mdaoid1.mycompany.com:389/mdad2,cn=OracleContext,dc=mycompany,dc= com
    where mdaoid1 is one of the two Oracle OID servers that resolve connection strings, and mdad2 is an entry in the two OID's sync'ed to each other. That works.
    According to many sources based on Google search for "space separated LDAP URLs", I should be able to add another LDAP server separated by space. Now I append " ldap://mdaoid2.mycompany.com:389/mdad2,cn=OracleContext,dc=mycompany,dc=com" (no quotes, added to indicate leading space) to that string. Upon clicking Submit, I get
    Connection verification failed for data source: orcl10g3
    java.sql.SQLException: For input string: "389 ldap:"
    The root cause was that: java.sql.SQLException: For input string: "389 ldap:"
    (orcl10g3 is the CF data source name I'm creating) Some say I need to replace space with %20 in the double LDAP URL. With %20, I get error
    Connection verification failed for data source: orcl10g3
    java.sql.SQLException: Io exception: JNDI Package failurejavax.naming.InvalidNameException: Invalid name: mdad2,cn=OracleContext,dc=mycompany,dc=com ldap://mdaoid2.mycompany.com:389

    Question: How do I add more than one LDAP server to the JDBC URL so I can achieve failover and load balance?
    Yong Huang
    yong321 at yahoo.com

    The message above was posted by me two years ago and was brought to my attention today. Here's a short update: The network team added a load balancer mdaoid in front of, and resolved to, mdaoid1 and mdaoid2 (in round-robin fashion). The problem described in this thread is bypassed because the JDBC URL can simply use one-OID format, in which mdaoid is used as the LDAP server.

  • Error Code Definition for JDBC Thin driver

    for JDBC thin driver to Oracle 7 database. Right now, when I have
    database errors, I get SQL execption with CODE=XXXXXX. Need to
    know the definition of the error codes in order to decide whether
    the application shall retry or quit or do something else. Thank

    Hi,
    thin client session Language is controlled by java Locale.
    Based on testing code, ORA- messages are localized after the connection is successfully established. ORA- messages returned in the middle of connecting are in instance language.
    So, as far as I can say, you need to catch exceptions from DriverManager.getConnection(url, info); and translate them on your own.
    Once the connection is successfully returned, ORA- message language is defined by java Locale.
    Tests were performed on Oracle 10gR2 (both thin driver and DB).

    hey i also have this problem i have been looking for solution for this problem for along time i tried every possible solution i tried every service pack for the SQL but it didn't connect to the port!!!
    it's a network problem ur java code is correct dont worry about it.
    finally i had to install MySQL and it's work fine now but if u insist on usning SQL u have to use the JDBC-ODBC Bridge it will work by :
    first add data source database , follow these steps
    1- go to Administrative tools
    2-Data Sources(ODBC)
    3-System DNS tab and add then choose SQL SERVER the last option then finish
    4-write the name; Note: this name is the one that u will write in ur URL for example if u write Hello the URL will be "jdbc:odbc:Hello"
    5- choose the server, its recommended to write "." or (local)
    6-change the database to its an important step to choose the database that u want to use, choose northwind if u want to use it
    finish
    second
    adding this code:
    import java.sql.*;
    class JdbcTest1 {
    public static void main (String[] args) {
    try {
    // Step 1: Load the JDBC driver.
    Class.forName("sun.jdbc.odbc.JdbcOdbcDriver");
    // Step 2: Establish the connection to the database.
    String url = "jdbc:odbc:Hello";
    Connection conn = DriverManager.getConnection(url,"user1","password");
    } catch (Exception e) {
    System.err.println("Got an exception! ");
    System.err.println(e.getMessage());
    it will work without any problems

  • Problems! MS SQL Server 2000 Driver for JDBC.

    In Dos-promt ill got only this message: com.microsoft.jdbc.sqlserver.SQLServerDriver
    What is wrong and is there someone that can help me out?
    I have installed Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Driver for JDBC and set the path like this in the system, advance, environment variable:
    .;D:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Driver for JDBC\lib\msbase.jar;D:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Driver for JDBC\lib\msutil.jar;D:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Driver for JDBC\lib\mssqlserver.jar
    This is the source code i use to test the connection:
    import java.sql.*;
    public class Exercise2_1 {
    static String driver = ("com.microsoft.jdbc.sqlserver.SQLServerDriver");
    static String url= "jdbc:microsoft:MinTest;ah;modeerf";//sqlserver://H:1433;user=ah;password=modeerf";
    public static void main(String[] args) {
    try {
         Class.forName(driver).newInstance();
         System.out.println("Loaded driver");
         Connection conn = DriverManager.getConnection(url);
         System.out.println("Connected to database");
         conn.close();
         System.out.println("Closed connection");
    catch (Throwable e) { System.err.println(e.getMessage()); }

    You printed the error message associated with the exception but didn't print the type of the exception. com.microsoft.jdbc.sqlserver.SQLServerDriver was probably a ClassNotFoundException meaning that the VM couldn't find the jars.
    You say you put the jars in the path. They should actually be in the class path. Either set the CLASSPATH environment variable or pass it in to the Java VM via the -cp option.
    One more thing. Seeing as the paths that you installed the JDBC driver into contain spaces you may need to put quotes around the path names or use the MSDOS short names for those directories.

  • Portal Test Connection Failed for JDBC Connector

    Hi,
    We are trying to create a JDBC system in EP to connect SQL Server 2005 database. Our aim is to build a model in VC using data services from SQL Server 2005.
    We deployed the Driver file sqljdbc.jar  and connection was successful when tested by creating a data source  in Visual Administrator-> JDBC Connector
    We have created a system in EP with user mapping type (admin,user) and user mapping also done for system alias with the SQL Server administrator user id and password. UME is maintained in ABAP Stack. When we try for test connection with the system created in EP for JDBC connection, the system throws an error message like “Connection failed. Make sure user mapping is set correctly and all connection properties are correct“
    Test Details:
    The test consists of the following steps:
    1. Retrieve the default alias of the system
    2. Check the connection to the back end application using the connector defined in this system object
    Results
    Retrieval of default alias successful
    Connection failed. Make sure user mapping is set correctly and all connection properties are correct.
    The following are the URL and driver class name:
    URL: jdbc:sqlserver://<host_name>:1433;DatabaseName=”db_ name”
    Driver class name: com.microsoft.sqlserver.jdbc.SQLServerDriver
    Is there any other setting to be maintained in the Visual Administrator or in the Portal?
    Kindly let us know any clue to overcome this issue.
    Quick response highly appreciated.

    not sure how far you got with this. I had the same problem or at least a very similar one with access to MS SQL Server 2005 and solved it. I followed essentially very similar steps with a couple of minor twists:
    1) copied the sqljdbc.jar file to the storyboard server and  set the classpath environment variable to point to it.
    2) I did not create a data source, just created a new driver "SQLServer".
    3) Under Connector Container I cloned SDK_JDBC as "SDK_SSQL".
    4) The Visual Composer property vc.bi.sqlEditor Enabled should be set to true for you to be able the SQL Editor in the Data Service in VC.
    In the portal I created a system of type BI_JDBC from a template.
    The connection url and driver class were as in the thread:
    URL: jdbc:sqlserver:ipaddress:1433;DatabaseName=name
    Driver: com.microsoft.sqlserver.jdbc.SQLServerDriver
    ConnectionFActoryClass as above under 3.
    User rights: admin,user
    The user mapping to the system alias should be as described.
    This should allow you to use the data service in VC to access SQL Server tables. If access to stored procedures (sometimes quite useful) is required, this would need to utilise the p9sqlserver.jar file already on the server.
    Best Regards
    Felix Logemann
