Usage of super
I have written this class.
package sample;
import java.util.List;
public class GenericSample {
public static <T extends Number> void print1(List<T> l) {
for (Number i : l) {
System.out.println(i);
public static void print2(List<? extends Number> l) {
for (Number i : l) {
System.out.println(i);
public static void print3(List<? super Integer> l) {
for (Object i : l) {
System.out.println(i);
// Gives compile error, why ??????
public static <T super Integer> void print4(List<T> l) {
for (Object i : l) {
System.out.println(i);
}The first three methods compile fine, but the fourth one gives a "compile" error. Seems like 'super' and 'extends' are treated differently by the compiler in similar contexts (comparing methods print1() and print4())
Please let me know if I am missing something. I am on Eclipse 3.1 with Sun JDK 5.0_05.

I have just installed PE 12. Editing a simple 30 minute project in DV (not even HD) . Have 16GB RAM Windows 7 64 bit & Intel i72600 3.4gig processor.
Can you give me aclue as to why this is happneing? Are there nay settings I can adjust?
I had no such problems when using Premiere Pro 6!
Many thanks in anticipation.Jan Osfield
Let us go through the typical drill.
1. Have you gone to Event Viewer/Windows Logs/Application and spotted any Errors or Information that may relate to your project problems?
2. What video card/graphics card does your computer use and is the driver version up to date according to the web site of the manufacturer of the video card?
3. Are you running Premiere Elements from as Run As Administrator and from a User Account with Administrative Privileges?
4. What project preset have you or the project set for the project? See Edit Menu/Project Settings/General and Editing Mode/Timebase/Frame Size/Pixel Aspect Ratio.
5. What are the properties of your source media?
Video compression, audio compression, frame size, frame rate, interlaced or progressive, file extension, pixel aspect ratio?
You say this is a DV project? Any chance you are doing DV data capture firewire into Premiere Elements Capture Window? If not, could you be importing DV AVI type1 instead of type 2 from capture firewire with another program?
6. Have you tried working with the program with the antivirus off?
7. You talk about a DV project. Is that in terms of import and export? If so, what have been your export and export settings.
8. How do you have the Scratch Disks setup and did you install your Premiere Elements 12 to default location?
Let us rule in or out the above and then we can decide what next?
Thanks.

Usage of material variants in automotive industry
Dear Experts,
I want to understand the usage of material variants in an automotive industry (car or two-wheeler). Please provide the config settings required and also the usage of super BOM & Routing (if required) with the complete flow. I would prefer if someone can share the scenarios in a two-wheeler industry.
Thanks in advance.
SameerHi Suresh,
Thanks for your answer.
1)We have about 9 characteristics. If we need to create material variants, around 200 material variants will be required to be created. Is that the best option?
2)If we select the first characteristic value, we want only those remaining chararacteristics to be available for selection which are related to the first characteristic. Likewise, we want to have control over the selection of each characteristic, till all the characteristic value selections are made in the sales order. Is it possible that a pop-up comes with the available characteristic options for that combination/s.
3)Can we make a super BOM for items selection? How can I control the selections from the super BOM? Can it be done via Object Dependencies? Routings are same for all the options.
Thanks in advance.

IPhone 3G is now super slow after 10 months or so usage??
My 3G phone has been working fine for about 10 months, but within the last months or so it has gone into slow motion, and I do mean SLOW motion.
Examples
1. Sending a picture, click on the "Email Photo" button, it takes about 15 seconds just to bring up the Email with image, then when I try to type in To: address it stays on the first letter I type for about 35 seconds (letter enlarges but just stays there) - this used to be instantaneous.
2. Messages, press the message icon and it takes a good 10-15 seconds before I see a list of people who I've messaged (this used to be 1-2 seconds).
3. Press on the iPod icon and again another 10-20 seconds before I see my playlists. Again, this used to take 1-2 seconds.
Now my iPhone never used to be like this, it was pretty fast for the first 10 months of usage. I haven't loaded any new apps (in fact I'm only at 2GB mem usage out of 8GB) and it's upto date with latest firmware and software. Doesn't seem to matter if I use wireless or 3G connection, nor if I have it plugged in or not.
I'm about ready to toss this phone out the window and go with something other than an iPhone. Is there any diagnostics I can run on my iPhone to try to figure out why it's gone into slow motion mode??
I've seen these types of problems happen with SSD drives where the MLC NAND flash starts to get flakey with no TRIM support (especially MLC) causing performance to radically drop off -- this is exactly what it feels like in my iPhone. Considering my 3G iPhone uses Samsung's 65nm 8GB MLC NAND flash which has been known to exhibit this problem over time, that's my guess as to why my iPhone has started to slow down.
I know several friends who are also running into identical "slow down" problems and they're in the same boat, toss the iPhone and go with a phone that uses better quality (real longer life) MLC or SLC NAND.
I know Apple aren't going to admit to anything unless enough people complain, so I was wondering how many other folks have run into this "mysterious slow down" problem after 10 months of iPhone usage?
Rob.Hi Lawrence,
I've done the "RESET" Power down and Power up. Haven't done a reset and restore yet. The Reset seems to have worked for now, but what seems to happen is that after using Safari for a while it will start to slow down again until I do another Reset.
Guess I'll just keep doing a reset once a day, but definitely not optimal way to use my iPhone. Apple break something in one of their updates that would cause this? Any diagnostic tools for the iPhone that might show me memory usage/processing etc. etc.
Thanks, Rob. -
can anyone out there help to solve this problem? why will it be super laggy when i using quick selecting tool in photoshop cc? i had tried using the same tool at photoshop cs6, it work super fast...but why it happened at cc? kindly pm me via my email : [email protected] thank~

PersistentProxy class usage for 3rd party super class
Hi,
I am using PersistentProxy class for 3^rd^ party super class. Please see code below for proxy class.
@Persistent(proxyFor=AIAMessageHeader.*class*)
public class AIAMessageHeaderProxy implements PersistentProxy<AIAMessageHeader>{
public AIAMessageHeader convertProxy() {
AIAMessageHeader h = null;
//some code here
return h;
public void initializeProxy(AIAMessageHeader h) {
//some code here
I am not sure how to register this proxy class using EntityModel:registerClass method before opening EntityStore. Before opening store, entity model object is null. I tried creating object of AnnotationModel and register class, set back it using setModel method of StoreConfig. But no help!!
Can someone put code snippet to do that? Without registration, it throws following exception.
Exception in thread "main" java.lang.IllegalArgumentException: Persistent class has non-persistent superclass:Thanks so much charles for replying me.
I tried the steps as you mentioned but did not work. It's still throwing exception. Please see code below.
public class TestData extends AIAMessageHeader {
@PrimaryKey
String testStr;
public static void main(String[] args) {
new TestData().start();
public void start (){
try {
EnvironmentConfig envConfig = new EnvironmentConfig();
StoreConfig storeConfig = new StoreConfig();
// Allow environment and store to be created if does not exist
envConfig.setAllowCreate(true);
storeConfig.setAllowCreate(true);
// set for AutoCommit of transaction
envConfig.setTransactional(true);
storeConfig.setTransactional(true);
AnnotationModel model = new AnnotationModel();
model.registerClass(com.jpm.equities.aia.cache.AIAMessageHeaderProxy.class);
storeConfig.setModel(model);
// open environment and EntityStore (database for caching data)
Environment env = new Environment(new File(
"C:\\workspace\\RollingIOIServer\\dbenv"), envConfig);
EntityStore s = new EntityStore(env, "EntityStore", storeConfig);
PrimaryIndex<String, TestData> pi = null;
pi = s.getPrimaryIndex(String.class, TestData.class);
TestData td = new TestData();
td.setTestStr("Kinnari");
pi.put(td);
System.out.println("inserted object into cache");
TestData t = pi.get("Kinnari");
System.out.println("found data " + t.getTestStr());
} catch (Exception e) {

Subscription and the SUPER 'fine print' fair usage...
I recently purchase the unlimited US and Canada package and low and behold, Skype's idea of 'UNLIMITED" is not what I'd deem unlimited. The subscription is limited to 50 different called numbers a day, or 6 hours of usage. So, then that would mean, Not UNLIMITED, wouldn't it?????????????????? I'm a bit peeved and would like to know, how, am I to use the **bleep** service UNLIMITEDLY?
I work from home, as an appointment setter. I call long distance, as I live 35 minutes north of Dallas, Texas. I only work 25 hours a week and the only phone company that is available to me is Century Link, formally Embarq. This co. Has the worst service options for those of us living in the out here. The maximum internet they offer us is a DSL connection download speed of 1.41 Mbs,(1440kbps) and an uploading speed of .47Mbps (480Kbps) this is $39.99 a month, and for 'unlimited long distance' through Century Link is $49.99 per month.
So, what's a girl to do? I hate to buy Skype credit, but if that's necessary then so be it. I'm curious as to what, if any, other subscriptions, either home, or business, are available to buy real UNLIMITED US phone calling.
Can someone help me PLEASE???!!
ThanksHello,
I've escalated your post within Skype for evaluation.

Inheritance and super usage help
so i have a parent class called Gun and i have a protected field called bulletsInGun in the constructor and then i have a a subclass called HandGun that inherits from the Gun class and i am trying to used the field bulletsInGun in the parents class constructor for the HandGun subclass constructor. how would i do that? i tried super.bulletsInGun and i tried super(bulletsInGun) and none of them work i keep getting "not a statement error".
this is my gun class the parent class

Super malicious website? 100% CPU and HardDisk usage via javascript
The other day my lil sis opened up http://sacdac.org/Issues.aspx and it completely froze the computer. the CPU usage was 100% and so was the HardDisk usage (I/O)
Take a look at what iotop shows. (i had to take the screenshots with my cell phone because the computer went unresponsive):
This is really bad. It wierd that compiz, gnome-settings-manager, xorg, gnome-power-manager, and system-tools-backends are all being affected by this.
Do you think it's just a bug in their javascript, or are they accessing settings on my computer?Yes, it is a poorly designed site. No, there is no evidence of it being malicious.
trustkr, if it was a site that featured mailicious code, do you really think that you are doing the community a service by posting a link to it with an inflammatory post title? And then bumping the post a minute later?

Can a supped up imac handle basic lightroom and photoshop usage?
I need to upgrade to a imac or a new mac pro. The mac pro doesn't come with anything but the computer. the imac comes with everything, keyboard, monitor, etc. But can it run lightroom and photoshop as fast as I need without over heating and slowing down?
If you need speed, the i7 CPUs are the fastest. If you can't afford a high capacity SSD, consider the largest capacity Fusion drive. If you are working a lots of images then, I would advise getting your iMac with only the base 8 GBs of RAM, then when you get this iMac, purchase cheaper third party Mac compatible RAM.
I would install, at least another 8 GBs of for a total of 16 GBsof RAM, but if you can afford. it, load up on more than 16 GBs of RAM.
Correct and reliable Mac RAM can be purchased from online Mac RAM sources Crucial memory or OWC (macsales.com). -
Lion is super slow! Should I reinstall?
Hi,
I have a 13” MacBook Pro that has a 2.7GHz i7 processor and 4GB of RAM. I bought this June at it came pre-installed with OS X Snow Leopard. In July, I upgraded to Lion and initially, my computer just had the spinning beach ball a lot more, but a day or two later, my computer seemed like it was running as normal (I’m assuming this was due to Spotlight indexing everything).
However, of late I’ve noticed my computer is SUPER slow! I first noticed the lag in processing speed when it took five minutes to transfer 1GB to a USB flash drive. (I then transferred the files to a Windows PC and back onto the same flash drive and the entire process occurred in under a minute).It takes over two minutes to start up and anywhere between ten seconds to a minute to open a regular application (i.e. iTunes, iPhoto, Firefox, etc). And my laptop heats up a lot faster these days too!
I’ve looked around the discussion forum and tried all the suggested solutions i.e. resetting the PRAM and the SMC, verifying and repairing the disk/permissions (including the one where you have to go through the recovery partition). But nothing has helped. If anything, it's getting worse! Every time I open disk utility now it says it’ll take 4 hours to verify the disk permissions! AHHH. And it’s not like my laptop is filled with useless files, either; my hard drive capacity is 500GB and it still has 372.7GB available. Oh, and I don’t have a virus either because I’ve run the Sophos anti-virus scan three times.
Normally, I’d have taken my laptop to the Apple Store and asked them to figure it out, but I’m currently in the Philippines and they only have Apple Resellers and fake Apple Stores here. I realise it sounds ridiculous but I’m deathly afraid they are either going to kill my MBP altogether or steal my parts.
I was wondering should I completely re-install Lion? If so, how exactly would I go about doing that? I do have a Time Machine back-up of everything on my 1TB external drive, but I don’t have any back-ups prior to getting Lion because I purchased my external later. Also, if I were to re-install Lion and restore from my Time Machine back-up would all my applications still work? I have Microsoft Office 201, Adobe Pro, Photoshop, etc. and if they get uninstalled, I don’t have any of my installation CDs here!
I’d appreciate any help! If you have any ideas, comments, suggestions, anything – shoot me a response. Thank you!Try to find out what is causing the loss of performance by starting the "Activity Monitor" (from Applications -> Utilities) and sort the processes according to real memory usage or CPU time by clicking at the column headers.
Also have a look at the free Disk space.
According to Apple the minimum hardware requirements for Lion are 2GB of RAM, but I found that not to be sufficient with the Applications I like to be running at the same time. For my workflow I needed 4 GB RAM when on SL, and with Lion I needed 8GB of RAM. The Activity monitor will tell you if you need to upgrade your RAM.
The second bottleneck with Lion is free disk space. Lion will run much more smoothly if you keep a least 10% (and a minimum of 20 GB) of your disk free.
If you find that you do need more RAM, but don't want to upgrade right now, look at the "Activity monitor" to find out which of your processes are fighting for memory and try to avoid running those together at the same time. I found that quite often Safari was eating the available memory and quitting Safari when I did not really need it did help a lot.
Regards
Léonie
P.S. There are quite a few threads in this forum discussing this. Search for "Lion slow" -
Problem with paintComponent, and CPU usage
Hi,
I had the weirdest problem when one of my JDialogs would open. Inside the JDialog, I have a JPanel, with this paintComponent method:
public void paintComponent(Graphics g) {
super.paintComponent(g);
Color old = g.getColor();
g.setColor(Color.BLACK);
g.drawString("TEXT", 150, 15);
g.setColor(old);
parent.repaint();
now when this method is called, the CPU usage would be at about 99%. If i took out the line:
parent.repaint();
the CPU usage would drop to normal. parent is just a reference to the Jdialog that this panel lies in.
Anyone have any ideas on why this occurs?
Thanks!1) I never got a stack overflow, and i have had this in my code for quite sometime...If you called paint() or paintComponent(), I'm betting that you would see a stack overflow. The way I understand it, since you are calling repaint(), all you are doing is notifying the repaint manager that the component needs to be repainted at the next available time, not calling a paint method directly. good article on how painting is done : http://java.sun.com/products/jfc/tsc/articles/painting/index.html#mgr
2) If this is the case, and the two keep asking eachother to paint over and over, .....

Help me understanding server memory usage
I am trying to determine how much memory our weblogic server needs and
am seeing what seems to me to be strange memory growth patterns in the
server. I am running weblogic6.1sp4(with CR093850) on solaris 2.7.
I have written an emulator for testing performance and stability of
our system. The emulator has sleeps in it between actions so it is
emulating a real end user interaction with the system, it is not
trying to emulate a super heavy load.
I configured weblogic server to have a high max heap to begin with(1.5
gig) and thought I could turn 10 emulators on and let them run for a
while to get all my entity bean cached filled up, then I could see
what the size of my server was at that point and expect that to be
close to what it will need. Is this an appropriate way to determine
size?
However, when I do this and try to let my emulators run for 24 hours,
I never make it past 13 hours. The weblogic server never stops
growing and of course I eventually end up with all the emulators
exiting with 'out of memory' errors from the server.
The process grows slowly at first, even seems pretty well behaved for
the first 2-4 hours. Then the process size starts to grow a little
more rapidly, then there is some drastic up and downs then eventually
it just stays high. During the spikes the CPU usage spikes as well
even though the load from my emulators has not increased.
If our code had a small memory leak I would expect to see a steady,
constant slow growth problem, but that is not whats happening, it
starts out small growth but then becomes more spiky.
I have max-beans-in-cache and max-beans-in-free-pool said reasonably
low on my entity beans that are used in this test. There are only 8
entity bean types being used in this test run. 1 stateful session
bean type and 3 stateless session beans.
Has anyone else seen this odd behavior? Has anyone had success in
setting a reasonable heap size?
any insight would be greatly appreciated!
KellyHi Kelly,
That looks pretty much like a memory leak. You could use a memory
profiler like OptimizeIt, or at least search though the code for
appearances of static public Hashtable
- that's where ever-growing "caches" live.

i've read i can disable the kernel modules that i don't need to improve the memory usage.
which modules i can disable without "kill my system"?. i don't want SATA, DVD, bluray, infrared, floppys, bluetooth, usb3.0, 3d video card, dial-up-integrated modem, ntfs, 'cause mi old is so old. i want it only for the university.
thanks in advantage for the tips, and sorry if someone can't understand very well that i wanna tell you, english isn't my "mother languaje".thanks for the answers. yes, i have a 1 gb of swap.
i think i can reduce the memory usage of the system if i dissable the kernel modules that i don't use. but, the question is: what modules is safe to disable to get it?

Battery replacement caused super slow performance
I experience a strange behaviour of my laptop after the battery change i.e. horrible lags – the operating system is literally choking, and loading takes.
First I thought that maybe that is a coincidence so I tried to clean the drive, to use a disk utility and other actions which one normally does to regain the performance, but without any result
I also opened the system monitor app and the memory usage seems fine
Today when I came to work my laptop turned off in the night and when I rebooted the fan ran like crazy – also it came back to its old super fast performance,
I thought the problem solved itself but the fan didn’t want to turn off
I checked the battery but then the battery icon showed x on the battery meaning there was no battery
Like in this article:

I did SMC reset and ideed the fan stopped and the battery status went back to normal but at the same time the system went back to
the same super slow mode as before
I ran out ideas what could that be and how i can get my old performance back
please helpSome detail I forgot - i have the NTE5 socket and, since calling BT tech support have got the HH plugged direct into the test socket, via my ASDL filter, with no improvement.
I have done quiet line test - my only telephone is a wireless one - and it can be fairly crackly - so I do hear some squeaks and crackles when doing the quiet line test - but have no idea if this is my phone or the line.
Broadband WAS repeatedly disconnecting (i.e. the B was going red then orange then back to blue) but as I don't sit looking at the HH all day I have no idea how often it is happening...
After my third call to BT i have an engineer due to come out on Monday with the ominous "if we can't find a fault it'll cost you £100" ringing in my ears...
