USB Foot Switch

Hello,
Recently I have written an interface to some laser control. The interface include some boolean buttons such as on \ off switch.
I want to control one of these buttons via a mechanical switch rather than a mouse a click - For this I have a cheap Foot Pedal FS1_P.
All I want is when pressed - to send  true or false into my exising interface.
When I connect it to my computer Windows 7 automatically installed it. I install the software that comes with it and it works - I need to set the keyboard key I want the pedal to be and initilize it - and I can write with the pedal in notepad.
I don't have a clue however on how to interface it with LabView.
I've tried to follow this tutrial but completly got lost. In my device manage I see USB-composite device, in MAX I don't see any USB device - not even my Logiteh mouse.
Can someone help?

Two points.  First, what the earlier replies are saying is that if you set up your Foot Switch to produce a unique identifying message, then you can (in principle) use LabVIEW to see if any key on the keyboard has been pressed, and if so, see if it is part of your message.  One "nice" way to do this is to make the message a single key combination you otherwise never use, such as Ctrl-Shift-A -- if you see this, then it's from the pedal, otherwise ignore it.
The other point is that LabVIEW might be able to directly read from the specified "Keyboard/Mouse", i.e. you might actually be able to see a "Mouse Down" event.  I discovered, while trying to ask "Can I attach a Joystick to LabVIEW?", that there are some Input Devices functions that can work with Joysticks, Keyboards, and Mice.  For Joysticks, it actually goes out and obtains the names of all of the Joystick-looking devices it finds, and you can then "attach" to whichever one you want.  It also gives the names of the Keyboard and Mouse devices, and because it returns an array of these, I thought that you could "choose" which Keyboard or Mouse (assuming you have more than one) to use.  However, to my disappointment, the Initialize Keyboard and Initialize Mouse function (unlike Initialize Joystick) do not have a place for you to specify the Device Index and return a specific Keyboard or Mouse reference, so maybe this is not possible.  It is worth an experiment, however, to see if Query Input Devices returns multiple Mouse and/or Keyboard entries on your system when the Foot Pedal is attached.  If so, we can lobby NI to let us use Device Index to choose which one we want to use.

  • Momentary punch in/out foot switch help needed

    Hi all,
I'm looking to find a usb keyboard or device that i can use with LOGIC 9 to plug in a momentary punch in/out foot switch.
I have an M-Audio Oxygen 61 - but I can't tell if it  has the input or not?
    Thanks in advance

I might approach it like this..... Open your template song. In the environment, create a new transformer and check the box next to the icon in the inspector so that it shows up as a possible arrange track. Double click the transformer to open it and program it to transform sus pedal (cc#64 I think...) to some other unused controller. Select the transformer track in the arrange page, open your key commands and set the transformed cc data to the record toggle (delete the original sus pedal setting from the controller list). Save the template song with this transformer and arrangement with the transformer track in it. Now when you build a new song from the template, you can select the transformer track when you want to use the pedal for record toggle, and select the appropriate instrument's track when you  want the sus pedal.
There are probably other (better?) ways of doing this.. one of the best things about logic..... Perhaps some one else will offer up a simpler way. It might just be easier to open KC window and delete the sus/rec. toggle setting when you don't need it and just reprogram it when you do.....

  • Volume pedal and foot switch for the Keystation 61es

    Hello!
Is there a way to add a volume pedal and a foot switch (for patch changes) to the Keystation 61es (using a MacBook with MainStage 2)?
I know that the software will be able to recognize the pedals, but there are no ports on the Keystation for them. I was hoping that there might be a USB MIDI interface for pedals, or a volume/foot switch USB MIDI pedal.
    Thanks!

Yeah, I don't play piano parts on the 88es. Have and bring 88-key weighted hammer action for that. Turns out the extra keys on the 88es aren't just for notes that are heard. Key switching presets in EVB3, or switching from legato mode to poly... You can use those extra keys for all kinds of stuff, including patch up/down... That's the power of MainStage... If the song is really busy, there's more keys to map out different zones to...
I compensate for the lack of knobs and switches, and not having aftertouch either by having a novation remote sl61 mk2 in the live rig, no shortage of knobs, sliders after that!
So, my live rig consists of 3 controllers, plus the FCB...
The FCB1010 is cool, replaced three volume pedals and three sustains pedals with it. Replaced the standard ROM with the UNO chip, some gotchas in this as well, but so far with a little thinking and creative reassigning in MainStage and it all works. No USB MIDI on the thing, so I had to try several USB <> MIDI interfaces until I found one that worked that also supported external programming of the thing... But... I use it and it works, is heavy, stays put and I don't have to "chase" pedals moving around on the floor while I play!
Still amazed that m-audio thought there was any benefit to saving one input jack on that back panel, would have thought it was more economical to have the same assemble in both the 61 and the 88, with the only difference being number of keys...
Hope this all helps, ping if you have any questions!

  • IMac and Dell on a USB KVM Switch?

    Hello Everyone,
Is it possible to connect the latest iMac to a USB KVM switch and use the screen to see a second Dell computer running Windows? Can you use a mini-DVI to VGA adapter? I have looked over my situation, but I'm not sure the male and female ends match up. Thanks for any suggestions.

Sorry but no, at least not in the way you want to use it. There's no video input to the screen on your iMac, and using a video capture device probably wouldn't give you the results you want.

I'm using windows 7, trying to download pictures from my canon 5d mark 2, but when I click import, the camera does not appear. I've tried changing USB ports, switching the camera on and off, trying a different USB cord, tried a different camera, but nothing. Please help! This problem only started a few days ago on lightroom 3.6, upgraded to 5.5, but still not working. Thanks.

Can you see the Canon EOS camera and image files using Windows Explorer? If not disconnect the camera, close all applications' shutdown Windows, and TURN OFF the power to your system and ALL connected devices. Disconnect all phones, iPads, and any other USB devices and restart your system.
Retry Windows Explorer and see if your camera is showing. If so try LR import again.

  • Assigning foot switch in mainstage

Hi there - I'm using the damper pedal on my midi keyboard to change patches in a set.
Problem is, because it's a damper pedal and not a 'foot switch' it changes TWO patches each time (one when pressed, and one when released).
Does anyone know how to stop it from doing that????
    Ben

Most damper pedals send CC#64 0 through 63 for off (pedal release), and CC#64 64 through 127 on (pedal pressed). So you want your controller to just respond to 64 - 127. In Edit mode, select the controller you are editing, look in the Inspector. You should see a selection for the Graph. Select it and adjust it (I think you would be dragging the lower left corner to the center of the bottom axis) so that the output starts where you want it, and ends at 127. You'll need to play around with it to get it perfect. See if that works.

  • USB Sharing switch

I'm using a USB sharing switch to choose which computer gets the input from my mouse/keyboard. They are connected to a hub which is connected through the switch to my desktop and laptop.
I recently got a new, smaller and simpler hub, without fancy auto-detectino and such, which always seemed to mess up, but if I connect the new one, it breaks something in linux and the input devices don't respond anymore. If I have only one of the computer->switch cables connected it works, but if I connect the other one I get:
    [ 1005.402688] usb 1-1.5.1: new full-speed USB device number 12 using ehci_hcd

in dmesg and no response. unloading and reloading the usbmodules and reconnecting (with only 1 computer->hub cable connected) makes it work again.
Anyone noticed anythin similar and have any ideas?

    Hi..
Check the USB hardware website for support for Lion v10.7.

  • Usb foot pedal driver

I have a sparc machine running solaris 10 and 2 Olympus usb foot pedals. The usb foot pedal models are RS24 and RS26. There are no Solaris drviers for the devices. I tried the detection tool on an XP Pro machine since I do not have an x86 machine. The tool does not detect the pedal even with Windows drivers installed.
I have read that other brands of foot pedals do not support Linux/Unix but should be compatible with their built in drivers. So I tried assigning a foot pedal to the hid driver. Nothing would happen when I press a pedal or cat the files in /dev/usb/7b4.202.
Then I tried assigning the foot pedal to a usb mouse driver from a site recommended by Sun. The driver would install but fail to attach. Still nothing would happen however there would be weird output when I cat the /dev/usb/7b4/202 files.
I know that foot pedals are used for audio and dictation so I would have to test them against that software. However my company would basically like to see changes in the state of the foot pedals to use them in their own software. I have no expereince in coding drivers so feedback with non-coding solutions would be appreciated.

    Hello again.
rem_drv usb_midI would not have done that. This may have influenced your USB configuration in a very bad way. Maybe now some USB devices will not be working.
add_drv -i '"usb7b4,202"' usb_midThe "usb_mid" driver is needed for devices that are handled by multiple drivers (e.g. a keyboard/mouse combination with only one USB plug is handled by the keyboard driver and by the mouse driver the same time). It cannot be used "stand alone" but it requires another driver.
I would try the following thing:
add_drv ugenIf Solaris says the driver is already installed it is OK. If Solaris says the driver cannot be found you have the "USBA 0.9" environment (see previous answer) - do not try to get your pedals working.
Next you must do is to replace the following line in /etc/driver_aliases:usb_mid "usb7b4,202"by the following line:ugen "usb7b4,202"then reboot the system; maybe the following two commands can be used to make the device work without rebooting:update_drv usb_mid
update_drv ugenNow you should get the directory "/dev/usb/7b4.202". Under Solaris 9 this directory is not created automatically but only the link destinations in "/devices/..." are created.
Your next problem is how to work with the files in this directory. It is not as easy as simply opening "/dev/mouse" and reading some data. You'll have to send USB configuration commands etc.

  • Yamaha FC-5 foot switch to change patches?

Trying to help a buddy (he's at a different theatre and I'm not in front of the equipment right now).  He has a Yamaha MOX8 and has the FC-5 foot switch plugged into the Assignable Foot Switch jack.  It works perfectly for changing patches when just using the keyboard.  He'd like to use it to change patches when connected to MS 3, but MS isn't even recognizing it (nothing lights up in the program).
Is there something that needs to be changed in the keyboard so that the switch data is sent to MS?  Any other ideas?
Thank you so much in advance!
    PJ

Do you see the keyboard MOX in the window in the screen control inspector in layout mode? Then pedal won't respond until it's assigned to a hardware input. See below.

  • Logidy Foot Switch issue

I am using a Logidy UMI3 foot switch to advance patches in Mainstage.  It is sending a signal to play E3 on the keyboard but not advancing.  Same set-up works on other Macs.  Is there a setting in Mainstage I am missing?

If he has a MIDI keyboard then a simple sustain pedal will do, if not, he'll need a standalone MIDI switch, in that segment you should probably look at the FCB1010 by behringer. A second hand 25-key controller plus a 'normal' sustain pedal might be cheaper though.

  • NI USB-9481 Switching Delay

One of the channels on my USB-9481 relay has begun operating with a delay between when the switch command is sent from LabView (or Measurement & Automation Explorer) and when the actual switching occurs. The other 3 channels appear to be operating normally. What might cause such a delay and how can the problem be resolved?

    Hello JamesF,
Can you quantify the delay? I suspect its a faulty electromechanical switch, I recommend contacting National Instruments to service your device.

  • 4-port dvi usb kvm switch

i'm having trouble finding one that...
    1) reads all the mac extra keys - volume up/down, mute, cd eject
    2) allows hotkey switching without needing a pc keyboard (scroll lock) to program, and
    3) reads dvi from my g4's adc output with it's dvi adapter
the linkskey i bought is an utter disappointment and will be going back shortly.
    any suggestions?
    thanks.

The 4-port Avocent is made by Addlogix. Their 2 port KVM switches are fantastic. This is the one I've used from them and highly recommend it if you need a 2 port solution.

  • Initial load via usb, then switch to match

I have a iphone6 with 128g, and figured i can now eventually load most of my music on the phone. i know how to do this, no problem. i would however, like to switch to itunes match on my phone for future updates.
i am frequently on the road and i don't want to use my bandwidth to download songs that i can initially much easier and faster load directly from my mac at home.
i found an article that said, i should load via classic sync and then switch itunes match on, but this did just reset the content on my phone.
any idea how to do this, anything official from apple on this? i can't imagine to be the only one who has a lot of songs and changes his phone once a year ...

What do the target tables look like in terms of having the same data as the source?

  • What usb auto switch is compatible with OSX and Windows for sharing the same printer

I just bought a new iMac for myself to replace my old Dell PC.  My husband still has his PC with Windows Vista and our work stations are set up to share the same MFC with a Belkin auto switch.   Unfortunately that software is not compatible with my OSX and I am having trouble searching for another auto switch that is compatible with both computer operating systems.  Can anyone recommend one to me?

Hmmm, we bought a brand new V300 from Epson and hooked it up it didn't work. We went through all the steps, downloaded all the drivers, and after several days of frustration, it still did not work so we returned it.
Apple hasn't been able to give us technical advice, Epson couldn't help. The only scanners sold locally are the printer/scanner combos.
I was looking at the Fujitso ScanSnap 1500M earlier tonight... am wondering if I can get by with this scanner since most of my scanning nowadays has to do with business documents. It sure would be nice to organize clutter and the text said something about compatible with the "cloud" as well.
I use my iPad all the time to show galleries & collectors the quality of my paintings... type up proposals, etc. Thanks for letting me know about it's compatibility with my iPad, iPhone and Mac.
Thank you for your input, AppleMan1958. you are wonderful.

  • Accessing USB HD Switching between OS X and WinXP

In a box with Fusion 3 using both 0S X and winxp, the USB HD(sea_disk) shows in the upper right under the Mac HD. If I want to connect it to the XP do I need to "Eject sea_disk" before using the connect to USB HD in windows?
Is there a way that I can access the USB HD with windows and mac when it is still on the Mac desktop? or vice-versa?

Our main issue with Safari is that it does not allow one to unblock pop-ups for individual websites. Some financial and gov sites require you to run pop-ups active. Firefox allows you but it goes nuts when it tries to download or access pdf files. The only way to shut it down is to force quit. And then there are 1000+ files in the download folder. Granted they are zero data but still a bit of a pain deleting them all.
One of us uses Office at work and the OSX doc and xls programs really do not like the files she has. They have a lot of problems with the formatting and embedded commands. So we know that at least with the VM loaded we can deal with that. We were led to believe that there wasn't any problems with using/editing those files between both OS's. Apple sales people said "We do it all the time"
The other program we have having problems with is Nikon ViewNX. I do a lot of photographic work and one of the reasons we went mac was that everyone said how good it was for digital photographic work. I haven't been able to do anything with it because it will not run the Nikon software. Afraid I never had these kind of issues with ms. Yes it ran slow but at least it worked. (ran slow due to lack of RAM)
