USB remote access problem for E3000?

Hi,
I recently got the E3000 router because it has USB and is dual band simultaneous router.
It's connected to ATT modem+router. I've disabled wireless on ATT 2wire modem and connected the linksys router to it.
Now after a lot of messing with it i have configured the USB drive to work and be visible on the network, also media server seems to be working fine.
Now i need help with the following:
Now what i am trying to do is have remote access to my USB connected hard drive over the internet.
Also I want to set the USB HDD as media download drive. E.g. if i am downloading a big files or torrent download i want it to be directly in the USB connected HDD.
Also in My Computers/network i have the drive visible as a computer and when i double click on it, it ask me for admin user id and password and i have files access available, i dont understand why is that? Because the same can be achieved through "map network drive" so what is the difference between the two?
Awaiting reply
Thanks for the help guys

Remote Management allows you to manage the router from a remote location, via the Internet. Managing a Linksys router from a remote location is similar to accessing it locally. The main difference is, instead of typing the router’s LAN IP Address in the web browser’s Address bar, you have to type the router’s Internet IP Address.
Remote Management Port
Enter the port number that will be open to outside access. The default setting is 8080. This port must be used when you establish a remote connection.
To enable remote management on a Linksys router, you need to perform three steps:
1] Enabling Remote Management on a Linksys Router
2] Checking the Internet IP Address of a Linksys Router
3] Managing a Linksys Router from a Remote Location

Second, there are three things you need to do to be able to share the contents of your USB storage device:
i. Accessing the Storage Setup Menu
ii. Creating Share
iii. Mapping a Network Drive

  • Storage solution - NAS, iTunes, USB, remote access

    Hi,
I am looking to purchase a new Storage Device. I have a small network at home consisting of, in addition to my computer, my girlfriend's computer and a couple of friends who regularly come over. I have a cable modem, Vonage (which I am about to get rid of - never use it), and an Airport Express. My access to the network is strictly through the AE, hard wired is not an option in my house due to setup.
I have a MacBook with a 160GB Western Digital USB drive directly attached. The WD houses my iTunes, but it's full. I stream music to my home stereo from iTunes through the AE. I also have about 30GB of photos on my Macbook's HD. I have no backup strategy in place so if the WD dies, I'm screwed. Here is what I want in a solution:
    1) Redundancy - preferably RAID 1 or 5
    2) Fast enough to steam HD content wirelessly (I will probably be adding an Apple TV this summer)
    3) Ability to move around my house and still stream music. Currently I have to be plugged into the WD (which has an AC Adapter) so I am relegated to the desk.
    4) Remote Access of files. I am sick of lugging around the external hard drive. Wondering if this would be fast enought to listen to music while outside of my internal network?
    5) **Probably not possible** Ability to play music directly from the Storage Device, potentially with AppleTV or some other device, so that I don't have to have my MacBook powered on.
I am leaning towards a NAS but I have been reading some info about using Airport Extreme USB hard drive sharing function. I also thought that AppleTV might release an update that allows users to access and play their digital content without going through the PC.
I looked at the following devices:
    1) Maxtor Shared Storage II 1TB - uPnP AV adapter looks like it will play files diretly from this withou PC - wondering if the Airport Extreme is a uPnP AV device?
    2) Iomega 150d
    3) Buffalo Terastation Live (looks like it has limited Mac support)
I'm looking for recommendations on a solution, NAS, USB or otherwise that addressed the above concerns. I don't want to spend over $1,000.
    Thanks
    Conor

I also have a very similar concern.
I am about to purchase a hard drive enclosure with ethernet capability. If you go to ebay and search for "3.5 ethernet" you will find many "USB 2.0 LAN Ethernet Enclosure" for $30-40. Then I will buy a 3.5 IDE hard drive of 500GB for about $100.
My idea is to attach this setting to my Netgear wireless router and access photos, music and videos from my laptop and desktop.

  • Remote Access Problem

    HI
Just today, i started to get the following error from my ix2-200 Storcenter (non Cloud edition)
"The device is unable to acquire your external IP address. Confirm that your device is connected to a router which connects to the Internet."
When i try to reconfigure remote access, i get the following error message
"Remote access cannot be configured. Make sure your device is connected to a router which connects to the Internet"
I went through various checks and made sure my router is connected to the internet. Port forwarding for port 443 is open on my router etc and i made no change that would stop Remote Access from working as it was before today
    When i try to reconfigure remote access, I also notice the following;
     - My external IP address is stuck on an old IP. I have tried restarting, shutting down and rebooting, changing my internal IP to see if it would force the new external IP to show, but nothing has worked.
     - I used to have 2 messages on the Remote Access page showing number of days left on DNS and SSL certificates. Now i just have one message showing days on "Remaining Certificate Subscription"
     - When i click the Renew Subscription link it is is down (iomegalinkportal.com)
Im thinking the fact that iomegalinkportal.com is down is causing this, but appreciate if someone can look and tell me what the error is causing my problem and if it's not the link being down, how i can get the NAS to pick up the correct external IP address?
    Rgds

    Go to Solution.

Could well be the 'old' iomegalink-stuff is no longer working or your router does not allow dynamic configuration by your NAS.
If you did not change anything to the router you should be able to https://<external-ip> .
( To determine external IP either check router config or use... http://www.whatismyip.com/ )
If the https-command on your browser brings up NAS startpage you may have alread reached 90%-success-mark.
All you then have to do is configuring your router to a dyndns service ( eg. dyn.com , for free as long as you log in once a month) and make a proper port forwarding to your internal NAS-ip-adress..........
If this is too techy, you should be able to find a friend in the neighbourhoud ;-) to lend you a hand for a try..
Or check some google nuggets like
    ' dyndns tp-link'   http://www.tp-link.com/gr/article/?faqid=297
    ' port forwarding netgear' http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VvzFHHDvU8E

  • Regarding USB Driver (OMAP1710) Problem for Belkin...

    Dear All,
I've been trying to update my Belkin Skype Phone (F1PP000GN-SK) from version: 1.1.0.10 R20 to version: 1.1.0.22R20 from the belkin support site.
But the problem is when i connect the USB cable to my Windows 7 (32-bit) laptop i get a pop-up saying "Missing OMAP1710 USB driver'
    Kindly someone help me pls.

I believe the original drivers packaged with the Belkin installer/flasher may work on the 32-bit version of Windows 7, but will not work with the 64-bit version.  Since I do own this phone, I decided to resolve this problem for myself as well.  Even though they are not available from Belkin, I was able to track down and extract/modify the latest drivers/inf for this phone.
You will need to extract and browse to these files using device manager to get the device installed.  You will get a warning about the files being unsigned, proceed anyway to finish installing the device.    Before flashing you will either have to disconnect/reconnect the phone or press the "#" key to refresh it.  Once it starts flashing DO NOT disconnect the device.  I've reflashed my phone several times without issue.
If the reason behind upgrading it is to resolve a freeze, the upgrade may not fix it.  You would want to downgrade to the original release.  That will generally resolve the issue.  After that, you can flash it to the latest release.
My version of the latest drivers for Windows XP/Vista/7/8 (32/64-bit unified inf) are available from the following location:

    Hi Steffen.
I'm not sure this could be helpful for you, but have try to check the ENABLE FLAG for this udf in UDF PARAMETRIZATION?

You have also posted this issue on the WAN Routing and Switching forum where I have provided an answer. I suggest that we consolidate the discussion on that forum.

A quick glance at the 5 FastEthernet interfaces on the remote router reveals the problem without any need for show ip route. When interfaces are shut down or have no IP address there can be no routes to those interfaces.

  • Port Range Forwarding Problem for E3000 and Iomega HMNHD Cloud

I'm trying to set up an Iomega Home Media Network Cloud NAS and I'm having problems with opening ports 50500-50599.  I have opened port 80 and 443 successfully and included the above port range above as well, but when I check it on www.yougetsignal.com the ports 50500-50599 are still closed.  I even tried to split the range in two parts, and still no success.  I have been in contact with my ISP and confirmed they do not block any ports in the 50500-50599 range and that the cable modem (a Motorola SBV5120) is operating in Bridge Mode.
I am operating under an older firmware and hope that is not the cause of this problem.  Also, using Win7 and Vista (tried and failed on 2 laptops).
Did I forget anything?  Any suggestions/solutions?  Thanks.

You may want to check out the list of tested hard drives to work with this router first. The link is E3000 and E2100L hard disk compatibility list. Based on the list, your iomega home media is not included. On the link for the tested hard drives to work with E3000, it is indicated that if your hard drive is not on the list, it may or may not work. With your case, since it is not working it may be due to compatibility issue.

  • How to configure Time Capsule etc as a local network server with remote access server and for backups

I'm trying to set up new 3TB Time Capsule as a wireless network server (with remote access) and for backups for use in a small office (of two Macs). We have a late 2011 Intel MBP and a brand new MBA both running 10.8.3. We have two external 1TB hard drives that until now have been attached the MBP for storage and backing up that computer, which up until now was the only machine in use. The MBA is for a new employee and we need to share and work on the same files, both here in the office and ideally remotely too via Back to my Mac. The MBP needs constant access. The MBA only occasional. The TC has 7.6.3 firmware and we've set it up using AirPort Utility 6.2. It is currently attached to the MBP via ethernet and it has internet access via a Sagemcom router attached to TC's WAN port.
We've managed to set up a wireless network and both have wireless internet access through the TC
But there are so many issues I don't know where to begin - so I'll start with a description of what we're trying to achieve:
I planned to use the TC as the main server drive and place all the key folders and files there so that both of us can access them wirelessly and remotely. The MBP would back up to the TC and to one or two of the external hard drives - one being attached to the Mac via USB and the other being attached to the TC's USB port. We would back up the important data on the TC using SuperDuper and copy it to both external USB drives.
So , first of all, is that a sensible configuration? Should the 'server' be the one of the external hard drives attached to the TC USB port, backed up regularly to the TC using SuperDuper?

But when you say 'So using USB drive does make sense if you want to use it as a file store', do you mean a USB drive plugged into the TC? I hope that I can attach an external drive to the TC so we can all access and read/write the content wirelessly via the TC network or remotely.
Yes, USB.. as it prevents the sparsebundle mixing with data files. I guess it does depend on how much data you are talking about.. you can use the TC internal disk if you are careful and setup the sparsebundle with fixed sizes once you create them..
And to be clear, I wasn't planning on backing up remotely via BTMM - only to access the shared folders on the TC data drive or USB external drive attached to it. I'm assuming that's ok?
Yes, that is fine. Sorry I got the impression you were going to do backup over internet.
What is the alternative? Having a Mac Mini that's always on? Do I need OS X Server etc.?
A mini would be great.. you don't need server edition.. but I would see how the TC goes.. since you have it and it is much lower power consumption device. It is just that its design is not really for file storage.
One big problem I have is to do with the sharing permissions. For everything on the TC or attached external drive attached to it, it says I have only custom access and every time I try to change permissions it says I don't have the permission to do that. And if I try to change the owner it says my user name is not valid.
How is the security setup on the TC?
The security is a bit tricky.. I must admit since I run windows computer in the network, that I simply turn on the guest account to read and write access. For a business setup that might not be adequate  but it allows me full access to all the files.
If you setup the TC with user accounts then you are in trouble. That makes it very difficult to access, especially if one person already has the file open you may find a second user cannot login. I am not sure as I have avoided the security. IMHO it is meaningless.. since anyone with physical access to the TC can press the reset for one second and has full access.. and can add or change passwords.

  • Airport Extreme blocking remote access for my NAS?

Having spent over 2 hours on the phone to both LG and Apple Care I still can't get my remote access working for my NAS. I don't know much about networks, but I am slowly having to learn! Apple care seem to think that the AEBS might not be compatible?? I've tried lots of forums, lots of google self help and exhausted the customer service options - you're probably thinking I should give up. Well this is my last chance saloon - any help would be greatly appreciated.
    This is my set up:
NAS: LG N2R1DD2 2 Bay DVD Network Attached Storage 2 TB
    AEBS: MB763LL/A (A1301)
    ISP: Virgin cable
Everything else on the NAS works a treat, it's just the remote access that is the problem. LG spent a long time on the phone looking into this and said that it is the router. I've checked with Virgin and they confirm they do not block any ports, so am pretty sure issue is with router. I've set up the NAS correctly to enable DDNS and UPnP, which it reports as successful and working correctly. I've enabled NAT port forwarding on the router, and tried to manually open up port 80.
Any thoughts would be most welcome.
    Thanks.

I am not sure but I think you skipped a step. Look around for the use of consolidate library function.
I did the same thing and after I pointed to the right drive on the Airport Disk It worked flawlessly allowing me to stream to my powerbook from all over the house.
Unfortunately, once I went to bed and laptop and MyBook Pro went to sleep, I started havong problems.
Looks like this function of Airport n is still very Alpha.
    Hope that helps

  • Remote Access VPN with existing site-to-site tunnel

    Hi there!
I have successfully configured my Cisco router to create a VPN tunnel to Azure. This is working fine. Now I am trying to add a remote access VPN for clients. I want to use IPsec and not PPTP.
I'm not a networking guy, but from what I've read, you basically need to add a dynamic crypto map for the remote access VPN to the crypto map on the external interface (AzureCryptoMap in this case). I've read that the dynamic crypto map should be applied after the non-dynamic maps.
The problem is that the VPN clients do not successfully negotiate phase 1. It's almost like the router does not try the dynamic map. I have tried specifying it to come ahead of the static crypto map policy, but this doesn't change anything. Here is some output from the debugging ipsec and isakmp:

If I specify my key like a site-to-site VPN key like this:
crypto isakmp key xxx address 0.0.0.0
Then it does complete phase 1 (and then fails to find the client configuration). This suggests to me that the dynamic map is not being tried.

Any ideas on what I'm doing wrong?

    Hi Marius,
I finally managed to try with the official Cisco VPN client on Windows. It still fails at phase 1, but now talks about 'aggressive mode', which didn't seem to be mentioned in the previous logs. Any ideas?

  • Remote Access Management Console - configuration issue with Network Location Server

    2012 Std R2
The remote Access management console operation status shows  all green except for network location server .
Error: There is no response from the network location server URL. DirectAccess connectivity might not work as expected, and DirectAccess clients located inside the corporate network might not be able to reach internal resources.
    Resolution listed as:
    1. Configure the network location server on a server that is highly available to clients on the internal network.
    2. If the network location server is running on the Remote Access server, ensure that IIS is running, and that the URL is available.
The remote access server is located on this server. IIS is running. What URL: show I be looking at?
Any other thoughts so I can get remote access working.
l also am getting a remote access error for IPV6, could this be a cause:
RoutingDomainID- {00000000-0000-0000-0000-000000000000}: Unable to add the interface {D37062B2-A3E0-4496-A459-9E0BBCE5423C} with the Router Manager for the IPV6 protocol. The following error occurred: Cannot complete this function.
    John Lenz

    Hi John,
please follow the steps to reinstall TCP/IP stack.
1.Restart your PC into Safe Mode with Networking.
    2.
Edit your registry. Delete the following keys:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SYSTEM/CurrentControlSet/Services/Winsock
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SYSTEM/CurrentControlSet/Services/Winsock2
    3.
Open the nettcpip.inf file in your %winroot%/inf folder
    (%winroot% is usually c:/windows).
Find the [MS_TCPIP.PrimaryInstall] section. Change the Characteristics value from 0xA0 to 0x80.
Open the properties of the network connection you want to fix. In the General tab, click on the Install button. Click on the Have Disk button, and point the location to %winroot%/inf. After that select TCP/IP (not version 6).
    4.
Now you would notice that you can uninstall TCP/IP!
Do that, then restart the PC.
Go back to your network connection, and install TCP/IP again as per the above. After another reboot, you should be up and running.
I also noted that the XP network repair tool may yank out the ISA 2004 firewall client stuff. Just run the firewall clinet repair or install it again to fix that problem after you did your reboot. Before you do this kind of crazy stuff.
    5.
This along with a TCP/IP reset using the netsh command:
    netsh int ip reset resetlog.txt
wish you have a nice thanksgiving too
    Regards,
    Mike

  • Remote access is rejected by the default configuration?

I installed a SunOne Directory Server 5.2 following the installation wizard. I can access it from a LDAP browser installed on the same machine. However, when I tried to connect the service from a remote machine, it gives me "[ERROR 91] Can't connect to the LDAP server". The server and the client machine are in the same domain and don't have access problem for other services ( http, soap...etc).
Does anybody know what the problem might be? Is there any particular setting in SunOne Directory Server that controls this.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
Sun Directory Server 5.x requires fully qualified domain names that can be resolved from all machines.
Make sure the hostname contains a DNS name.
    Regards,
    Ludovic.

  • Routing and Remote Access VPN DHCP error

    I have a strange problem.
I have a client that is using Server 2012 Standard.
On this server they have Routing and Remote Access configured for VPN client access. Their users that are working outside the office connect to the VPN to access the internal network.
The VPN works fine for the most part. Recently however, it has started having issues.
Periodically (about once every 8 days) I will hear from them that they cannot connect and that they get error 720. I will check the server and the server will have the following errors in the event log:
Warning: No IP address is available to hand out to the dial-in client.
If you check DHCP the server is running fine and will hand out local addresses but it will not hand out addresses to VPN clients. Also the addresses that it HAS previously handed out to VPN clients will not show in the address leases.
The solution strangly enough is to disconnect and reconnect a the VPN client connection that the server has connecting it to a offsite server that it does a SQL sync with.
Any ideas as to what might be causing this? If need be I can post more detailed logs but I am not sure what logs even to post or what data to collect.
    Any help is greatly appreciated.

I am experiencing the same issue on a Windows 2008R2 SP1 RAS server. The above statement About increasing the lease time on DHCP does not resolve the problem.
I am also Searching for a Solutions to this issue.
Up to now I have done the Following :
    1. Increased the scope/ cleared IP's in DHCP.
    2. Ensure that the DHCP server is accessable.
    3. Created a Manual Scope on RRAS configurations settings (then clients can connect but cannot access resources on the network). Changing Back to DHCP, you recieve the same 720 Error.
    4. Stop and started the DHCP services on the DHCP Server.
    5. Stop and Started RRAS Services on RRAS server.
The Only Indication is, that DHCP for some reason does not lease out Addresses to the RRAS server..

  • ASA Remote Access VPN Clients - Multiple DNS Suffixes?

    Hi community!
I am setting up a new remote access VPN using the traditional IPSec client via ASA 5515-X runnning OS 8.6.1(5).
We require to provide each client multiple DNS suffixes, but are only to provide a single DNS suffix in the grouip policy.
I have tested using an external DHCP server, but using our Windows Server 2008 infrastructure and Option 119 the list is not provided to clients, and I have read that Windows 7 clietns may ignore this option anyway.
Other than umanually configuring the clients , does anybody have any other suggestions on how we may get this to work?
    Full marks for helpful posts!
    Kind regards, Ash.

    Hi
I am looking into the same issue, and I am finding conflicting documentation about this and wondered if you got the answers you were looking for.
I have a remote access requirement for users from separate AD's to authenticate through an ASA.
I was reading about Global Catalogue Server but this is not specifically what I want; and also creating a new AAA server group but the user would need to accept which group to use when they log in
