Use of existing database

I have a database created on disk1 disk2 disk3.
I detach the disks from the original server and attach them to a second server.
I want to install the DB software on this server, but use the existing database.
I tried to install with the option "software only", but couldn't find anywhere how to present the existing DB to the server.
BTW, the OCR and voting disks are on different disks.
Thanks in advance!
P.S. It may be very simple, but I never did that and couldn't find documentation about it.

It should not matter the OS. It's a general issue about what Oracle tool to use to accomplish that.Yes and no. There are differences in what needs to be done to manually create an instance.
For instance, on Windows, you need to use oradim to create a service for the instance, and this isn't necessary on unix/linux.
But if you're looking for a conceptual answer, more than a steb-by-step instruction, you're right, it doesn't matter what os you're on.

  • Installing Enterprise Manager 10g Grid Control Using an Existing Database

I want to install Enterprise Manager 10g Grid Control 10.2.0.3 using an existing database. This database is RAC 10.2.0.2. and I use it as Infrastructure Metadata Repository.
I is said in Oracle documentation that SYSMAN schema has to be dropped, thus Database console repository has to be dropped. As far as I understand after Grid Control installation I will not be able to use Database console for my RAC 10.2.0.2 Infrastructure Metadata Repository database. • [HTML DB] How to use the existing database table?

[HTML DB] How to use the existing database table?
I installed Oracle 10g database in Computer A(Windows 2000), and I already create all the tables with data and the data size is about 300MB.
    In Computer B(Windows 2000), I installed HTML DB 1.6.
How can I use /get the existing database table (in computer A) for HTML DB?
Could anyone help me on this? I am newbie and I need some detail instructions. or Where can I find the examples.....
    Thanks

Well I guess if you wish to retain that architecture, i.e. HTMLDB on one machine and your data on another, you will have to establish database links to access the data. Oracle documentation will describe how to achieve that.

  • Creating a new database vs. Using the existing database

    Hi,
I have to build a new desktop application over an existing oracle database -
Current database is around 300 gb
    Has 1500+ tables
Tables are in denormalized form and has ungrouped table columns
High level of nesting is done in the triggers.
Now before I take decision to use existing database I want to know
    1. what factors to consider while choosing between the existing db or a new db?
    Thanks in advance.

Some of the things I would consider before including the two desktop applications together:
Would you mind impacting one or the other application (downtime) if you needed to bounce the database for any reason, or if there were issues with the database. Keeping them separate would prevent having to bring down both applications if the database went down for any reason (planned or otherwise).
Would the type of activity in both databases be so similar that all global optimizer and other parameter settings be perfect for both cases?
Would the SLA be the same for both databases? Would your customers agree to impacts of one application data if you had to roll back the database for the other application?
By having the two applications in the same database, you are also stuck with having to wait for both application vendors to certify their product with the next patch level or version for upgrades. Keeping them separate eliminates this problem.
Is there any compelling reason to keep them together?
Personally, I would keep them separate for all of the above reasons, and many more which I did not bother to write.

  • OEM 10g grid control using an existing database

    Hello all,
Has anyone been successful in installing Enterprise Manager 10g Grid
Control (10.1.0.3) using and existing 10g (10.1.0.3) database?
10g grid control comes with 9.0.5.0 database for it repository. Since
this respository can not be update to 10.1.0.3, Oracle recommends using
    and existing 10g database instead.
My installation goes 90% all the way before it fails. It fails at the
    create repository point.
If any one has been successful, could you please share your success
    with me.
    Thanks,
    Jake

Well, finally I did it! :)
The problem comes when you are trying to install OEM repository into existing 10g DB which used to be configured with a standalone Database Control. Dropping SYSMAN user is not enough!!! There are some leftovers which must be cleaned before running repository creation assistant:
    drop user SYSMAN cascade;
    drop user MGMT_VIEW cascade;
    drop role MGMT_USER;
    drop public synonym MGMT_TARGET_BLACKOUTS;
    drop public synonym SETEMVIEWUSERCONTEXT;
    That's all folks.

  • How to install OEM 10g using an existing database on another host

    Hi,
I've created a 10g database (on host solaris_x86) which I like to use for the OEM 10G GC (on host linux_x86).
If I install OEM using existing DB, then the installer expect the database is running locally.
If I install OEM using new DB, then the installer complains that I've less then 1GB memory.
Does somebody know how to solve this?

Something is wrong ... Remote database works fine.
we are using Tru64 OMS against Windows DB.

  • How to use an existing remote database instance?

    Hi,
is it possible to use an existing remote database instance for installation of Solution Manager?
Our dba has setup an empty database instance on a hpux oracle cluster for me and I don´t know how to tell the SAPinst during the installation of the distributed system that it should use this existing database.
Or is it mandatory to run the installation on the host where the database should resides and then create a new instance?
Thanks in advance for any hints!

We currently don't support DataControls based on the ADF BC technology. We will consider such support if there is a strong interest in that use case.
Independent of the IDE's you use, there are ways to expose services based on ADF BC that can then be consumed by the view layer. A Google search will point you to some of the approaches.
HTH. Thanks for your interest in OEPE.

  • Need help Installing OID Repository on existing database server using RepCA

I have an oracle database server running 10g (10.2.0.4) and I want to install metadata repository on it. I downloaded the Application Server Metadata Repository Creation Assistant 10.1.2.0.1 (standard edition).
I find that there are no batch files in the download, just setup.exe. When I run that I am asked for an ORA_HOME - when I provide the home where the database is installed I get the message that the home already has the database and the software cannot be installed on it.
How do I add the repository to an existing instance of oracle database server? Also, is the version I downloaded the right version #
    Thanks

    Hi sameer khan,
first let me ask, are you talking about Netweaver04s (WAS 7.00), in this case my answer can give you some hints.
Note 883948 gives information of the installation of an additional usage tye (like BI JAVA)
You have more than one possibility to install the usage type BI JAVA. The most common installation types are:
    1. BI installation and a separate BI JAVA installation with 2 <SID>
    2. BI JAVA Addin Installation in an existing NW04s
I recommend to use option 1:
In case you install a separate BI-JAVA instance, you need a separate <SID> for your J2EE environment. In this case it is not possible to use the same <SID>. This installation can be done on the same or a separate server. Furthermore, you can use a separate database or install the J2EE instance in the same database (--> MCOD). I recommend to use a separate database. Note: In this installation option, Sapinst normally installs a separate user store. With the usage type BI JAVA it makes (in most cases) sense, to use the user store of the BI system, where it belongs to. If you want to do so, "Revise" the user store option before you start the installation and and choose the production client of the BI system.
If you like to use an Addin Installation, another <SID> is not possible. I would only recommend this kind of installation in test environments.
It doesn't matter, which kind you choose, after installation, you have to do the steps for "Setting up bex Web", see Note 917950. This is sometimes a little bit tricky, with Note 937697 there is a Support Tool, which can help.
    Good luck with your installation
    Kind Regards
    Marc

  • OEM Grid control 10.2.0.1 installation using existing database 10.2.0.3

    Hi,
I am planning to install oem grid control 10.2.0.1 using existing database 10.2.0.3 for storing repository on HP_UX 64 bit PARISC.
Can it be possible, If not whats the reason and what issues it may arise.
If it possibel can anyone explain me the correct steps and is it compulsory to take full backup(we cant take ful backup bcoz space issues)

Yes, you must download and install the 10.2.0.1 version and then patch it up to the 10.2.0.4 version.
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/obe/obe10gem/install/index.html
The above link shows you the install routine when using a new database, the steps for the existing database are only slightly different, all you need are the connection details for that existing database and you should be ok.
As for taking full backups of the Grid Control repository, I know many choose not to, space is always a big concern, but this depends on how critical your repository is to you. If you need it for the auditors, well then I'd suggest acquiring some more hard disks to up your space.

  • Install: using existing database  vs creating new database

    Which one do you recommend?

Hans has done a good job pointing out the pros and
cons but I reject some of his reasons for using the
default database:I also reject some of the reasons I state - but I state them as they need to be presented before they can be rejected. <g>
My point is simple - you gather all the reasons first and then accept or reject based on your specific environment. What works for me may not work for you.
    >
    - potentially tuned to EM needs;
==> Read the install notes for oracle recommended settings...not hardHow many people read any install manual? Especially these days ...
People will probably skim the internet to determine that it's possible to install on a separate database, and will often target a database that has sufficient space.
I doubt if 1 in 10 would even consider that the OMR will put a load on the CPU or would think to change the DBs settings based on a compination of "what si best for the applications in the DB" and "what is best for the OMR"
    >
    - on the same machine as OMS;
==> an existing database can also be on the same
machineIf the OMS load pushes the machine to require another CPU and that forces the purchase another CPU license, then I would consider getting the OMS the h*^l off the machine on to a separate server.
AFAIK, you pay for the DB license, but there is no per-cpu charge for the OMS. So, like any client, you can install the OMS anywhere you want. I'd appreciate any documentation to the contrary.

    - specific DB version selected (that is known to work

  • How to create a new database after copying an existing database with a new name

    hi
i have an existing database and want to copy with a new name in sql server 2005 how do it is possible
    spose
i have a db name attached in sql server StoreManagementDB now i want to copy this database with all the transactions as StoreManagementDB_1.
    thanks

Use a two steps to use a backup file to restore a database with a new name.
----You need to have a full backup of your database:
    --Step 1:
    RESTORE FILELISTONLY
    FROM DISK = 'C:\bk\TEST.BAK'
--Find out the LogicalName of data file and log file
-- in this case: the data file: TEST and the log file LogicalName: TEST_log
--Both names will be used in the MOVE command
    --Step 2:
-- Restore the files for test1.
    RESTORE DATABASE test1
    FROM DISK = 'C:\bk\TEST.BAK'
    WITH RECOVERY,
    MOVE 'TEST' TO 'C:\bk\test1_Data.mdf',
    MOVE 'TEST_log' TO 'C:\bk\test1_Log.ldf'
    GO

Can you ensure that your listener is servicing the already existing database.
lsnrctl status -> will list services
Make sure the database you want to use as your repository is there.
