Use SLES collector as a starting point for another distro?

Hello,
I have a Linux based router/firewall that I want to connect to Sentinel.
I started writing a custom collector but after seeing the events I can
see that they are we much like the events that SLES produces.
So I don't want to start from scratch.
Can I use the SLES collector as a base and "trick" it into collecting
events from my router/firewall instead of the events going to the NetIQ
Universal Collector?
Thanks.

First thing to check is 'do you need a new collector just for this OS'?
The NetIQ Universal Collector parses most unix events that we
currently support across the collectors; in many cases unless you need a
full dedicated collector for other reasons, it's better to just tack on
some custom parsing (though custom.js, see 'Collector Customization',
http://tinyurl.com/loec9qm). If you create a new collector, you have
to deal with some special problems like device discovery or the manual
effort of assigning event sources to that collector; so if you're just
trying to catch something small, extending the Universal collector is a
good first step to try.

  • Default starting point for a search? Stopping a Finder Search?

"Command F" brings up a search window, defaulted to "This Mac". All too often, I forget to switch the search to my intended target before entering the search criteria. I've got several TB of storage on line, so a "This Mac" Search can take a l-o-n-g time. I can't find a way to stop this search once it's started. Is there a way to set a preference for Find to default to the selected item (disk, folder, or whatever) rather than the whole computer? Am I missing a "cancel" button somewhere?
    Peri

Backspacing or deleting the search criteria does not work. Once the beach-ball cursor starts spinning, nothing I do has any effect until the search is complete - which may be several minutes.
On 10.4, there was is an "x" at the lower righthand corner of the search window (next to the search indicator), which would cancel the search. There is no "x" on 10.5.
Saving a search might be an answer if I repeated the same search frequently, but I don't. Also, I'd have to remember to use the sidebar. If I could remember that, I'd probably could also remember to change the starting point for the search.

can I use this as a wireless access point for my network

    umm... use what?
A Time Capsule? Sure. It's just like many other wireless base stations. It can run in either bridge or route mode - in bridge mode it's just like an access point linking the wired and wireless networks together.

  • Using Mac mini as an access point for home network

    Hi
I'm looking for some help on using my mac mini as an access point on my home network.
I have a G5 tower which is wired in to my router and acts as a home server. It has all my itunes library, films, etc
I stream these to various machines in the house, one of which is a mac mini in our living room.
The mini is connected to the network via powerline adapters meaning the airport is left free.
So i set up internet sharing on the mini via airport so I can use the machine as an access point for the living room.
If I connect another machine to the mini via airport, Internet is working fine but for some reason I can't see the any other machines on the network.
All I see in the sidebar is the mini, not the server.
I've tried it on both mine and my friends macbook but had no luck.
Am I doing this the wrong way?
How would you go about doing this?
    Cheers

Internet Sharing may not be providing an address via DHCP, It also may not be providing a subnet Mask that can get you to communicate with the other computers on your local Network.
Take a look at what IP addresses are being used by the various computers on the network. I would expect you have a Router that may be using 192.168.0.1 as its base "private" address, and issuing DHCP Addresses in that range and higher with a subnet mask of 255.255.255.0, meaning anything with the same three high octets can communicate freely without Router intervention.
But what addresses are bing used for the Wireless Shared computer(s)? and what subnet mask?

  • Starting Point for GSS

We are going to deploy GSS in a DC-DR scenario. Primary role for this GSS would be for failover when DC becomes unavailable. As of now, we are not planning to make these GSSes as an authorative servers for Domain names.
My question is How GSS should be configured. I've gone through pdfs explainng how GSS works and KAP-AL with other GSS, ACE etc. However, I am not able to completely understand about its IP addressing, physical connectivity (most likely, this would be outside firewall) and more details about GSS-ACE deployment. We are going to have ACE appliances in Primary DC as well. There will be no ACE appliance in DR.
Any guidance about starting point for GSS deployment would be helpful. I was also looking for questions to be asked for client requirement gathering.
THanks in advance. Happy 2012 !

  • Custom starting point for song?

I'm wondering if it's possible to set a custom starting point for a song, similar to the way that the end point can be set:
I find that I have to start my song about two measures in (I tend to need more time than the Count In setting allows), but when I go to share the song, I don't want those first two measures.  Short of highlighting all tracks and dragging them left when I'm done, is there another way to set a custom start?
    Thanks!

  • How to use one variable as a default value for another variable?

    Hi Experts,
Is it possible to use one variable as a default value for another variable?
    For example:
Variable 1 = current calendar year month
Variable 2 = mandatory input ready variable for calendar year month
I want to use variable 1 as default value for variable 2, but also have the ability to change the month if required.
    Thanks!
    Kathryn

u can use replacement path variable
in that case u can replace the values of 1 variable with the another variable...
but  u cannot do this setting
u cannot make variable 2 as mandatory
u cannot enter value for variable 2
because by default it will take the value of variable 1
u have to make follow settings
    variable 2
    name , technical name
    processing by = replacement path
    infoobject = ocalmonth
    next tab
    replaced by another variable
    variable name
    offset start , offset lenght
    save and hit okey

  • How do I turn off the alt scroll zoom?  When I'm in Adobe photoshop and illustrator using the pen tool, alt is utilized for another short cut.  I would like to use the alt command for the pen tool instead of zooming into the screen.

How do I turn off the alt scroll zoom?
When I'm in Adobe photoshop and illustrator using the pen tool, alt is utilized for another short cut.  I would like to use the alt command for the pen tool instead of zooming into the screen.

I tend to select things from left to right and every time I am moving in a downward right diagonal motion during lasso selection I am missing a clear view and I am tending to have a more sloppy selection.  All this does is slow me down since I need to go back and hit those areas again.  The big arrowhead just get's in the way.  The original lasso tool with the thin line and small active point at it's lower left was far better for me.
I don't like turning the cursors to precise because I like to see the active tool icon where my cursor is and as the icon changes as I hold modifier keys down.  If I am forced to get comfortable with using pricise cursors I guess I will, but man, I've never had to do this in my 15 years of photoshop use...
I would absolutely LOVE to find a way to get the old lasso icon -- without the arrowhead above it.
Is there any chance this option could be inlcuded in cursor preferences?  I'd give much thanks, Adobe.

  • Using an iMac as a 2nd display for another iMac?

    Hi all,
is it possible to use an iMac as a 2nd display for another iMac?
I guess it depends (if at all possible) on the models, right?
Would it be possible with two of the currently available iMac 27" models?
Is it just connecting the two video jacks with a cable? That would mean that the jack is input AND output connector at the same time: the video signal would be output from iMac 1 and serve as input for iMac 2.
    Thoughts?
    Thanks,
    Stefan.

Awesome, David! Thank you! That helped a lot!
Additional question: because running applications on the target-display-mode-iMac keep running: will I be able to connect from the source iMac to the target-mode-iMac via OS X's Share Screen functionality? So that I can still USE the 2nd (target-display-mode) iMac for running applications and accessing them? Or is the iMac in target display mode really just a dumb display? Will ssh'ing to it work?
A little background: programs like Cubase and Logic work really great with two screens. Additionally, some audio plugins really need a lot of CPU power and some of those can actually distribute the number crunching via the LAN to other computers. So my thought is: run Cubase on iMac #1, use iMac #2 as a 2nd screen (will work, thanks to David's reply) AND use iMac #2's CPU, too, to help some Cubase plugins' number crunching. Would that work?
    Thanks a lot,
    Stefan.

You know, this is just a thought.  I'm not sure the differences between the iq526 and iq770, but as I was looking around I found this article.  I don't know if it'll help, but you might want to take a look.  Evidently someone figured out how to use the HP touchsmart as an external monitor for his Dell laptop.

  • Help with starting point for "proof of concept" integration

We are a third party application provider and are attempting to figure out how to do a "proof of concept" integration with SAP.  We are not looking for "certification".  Our product does not appear to fit any of the standard certifications for integration and our experience integrating with other systems indicates that no two integration will be identical.
We are looking to do a simple integration scenario with an SAP system so we have some basic experience doing it, can say 'Yes" when asked if we have done it, and can create a video showing a transaction being done in SAP and our system also updating (and ideally the reverse).
Our starting point with respect to SAP knowledge is "0".
Our basic task list (we think) goes something like
    1.  Figure out the version and modules of SAP with which we should be integrating
    2.  Get access to an SAP system (do we rent, is there a developer/evaluation, ...)
    3.  Put some data in the test system (is there a "sample data" set?)
    4.  Figure out the SAP transactions that map to the business process in which we are interested (moving goods in and out of a distribution center/ware house - are there some "standard business process guides")
    5.  Integrate (we are a .NET web based application so we are guessing this means use the ".Net Connector")
Could anyone point out any resources (white papers, links, people, places to find people,...) that might be a good starting point?
    Thanks,
    John

    Athol,
We are looking to recieve notifications out of SAP as tractor trailers at a dock are filled as proof on concept.  The actual integration scenarios we do are more complex and do not match well with any of the pre-packaged certification scenarios.  The real world integration scenarios actual vary substantially from customer to customer in terms of the integration points between systems.
As we have become more marginally knowledgable about SAP, I think we will end up receiving and sending "IDOC" messages from SAP but have no idea what those IDOC messages are or where to start looking for what a "standard" (if there is one) message SAP would generate in reaction to whatever the "trailer is loaded" transaction is.
To figure out what the transaction is, I assume we need to identify what version of SAP we should be targeting for a simple integration.  Are there any could references on what the commonly integration methods are and to which versions they apply?
Something like "hey, if you do an integration with a IDOCs in with SAP Netweaver 2004 then that would good proof you could integrate with 90% of the installed SAP base".  Of course, any links explaining what the versions of SAP are and where they are in there lifecycle and what people are actually using would be helpful.

  • A starting point for pipemenus in Openbox

Does anybody know of a good "hello world" pipemenu written in python or bash? I'd like to get started with making my own pipemenus, but I'm having a hard time looking though some of the pipemenus on the Openbox website. I just need a nice clean one to look at for a starting point. Thanks.

    Hi kiwisaotome,
The idea is to make a script that creates an xml form at the time when it is called, which the openbox menu can use. It's fairly easy. Here is an example that I use. I don't remember where I got it from:
    #!/bin/bash
    FREQ=`cpufreq-info -p | awk '{print $3}'`
    echo '<openbox_pipe_menu>'
    if [ $FREQ = 'powersave' ]; then
    echo '<separator label="Powersave"/>'
    else
    echo '<item label=" Powersave">'
    echo '<action name="Execute"><execute>sudo cpufreq-set -g powersave</execute></action>'
    echo '</item>'
    fi
    if [ $FREQ = 'ondemand' ]; then
    echo '<separator label="Ondemand"/>
    else
    echo '<item label="Ondemand">'
    echo '<action name="Execute"><execute>sudo cpufreq-set -g ondemand</execute></action>'
    echo '</item>'
    fi
    if [ $FREQ = 'performance' ]; then
    echo '<separator label="Performance"/>'
    else
    echo '<item label="Performance">'
    echo '<action name="Execute"><execute>sudo cpufreq-set -g performance</execute></action>'
    echo '</item>'
    fi
    echo '</openbox_pipe_menu>'
Then I call it from the openbox menu.xml where it first is declared or what ever it's called:
    <menu execute="~/.config/openbox/scripts/cpufreq-pipe.sh" id="system-cpu-menu" label="CPU Governor"/>
    And then called:
    <menu id="system-cpu-menu"/>
    Hope that helps.
