Use Variable value name???

Is there a way to use a variable value's name to load data?
What mean is, if I have a variable called "var1" and I load
"var1" from an XML file so the value of "var1" == "XYZ", is there a
way to use the value "XYZ" to load data to a Dynamic textbox call
"XYZ"?
var1 = "XYZ"
( XYZ is a dynamic textbox on the stage and I need to load
XYZ with incoming data )
Example: XYZ = "What ever text I have"
( but XYZ is really the vaue of "var1")
Thanks - Gary

yes, you can resolve strings into objects by using array
notation. for example, if XYZ is the instance name of a textfield
on the _root timeline and var1="XYZ", you can use:

  • Using variable coulmn name in sql function

    Hi there,
    I am not an expert with PL/SQL and I can not figure out how to use variable column names in my function.
    My function is:
    CREATE OR REPLACE FUNCTION RESET_TRIGGERS(aTrigger VARCHAR2) RETURN NUMBER IS
    TEMP_ID NUMBER;
    TEMP_USER_ID NUMBER;
    BEGIN
    SELECT 'LIMS.'||'$aTrigger'||'.NEXTVAL' INTO TEMP_ID FROM DUAL;
    SELECT 'LIMS.'||'$aTrigger'||'_USER.NEXTVAL' INTO TEMP_USER_ID FROM DUAL;
    IF TEMP_ID > TEMP_USER_ID THEN
    LOOP
    SELECT LIMS.SQ_U_FINALRESULT_USER.NEXTVAL INTO TEMP_USER_ID FROM DUAL;
    EXIT WHEN TEMP_USER_ID = TEMP_ID;
    END LOOP;
    ELSE
    WHILE TEMP_ID < TEMP_USER_ID LOOP
    SELECT LIMS.SQ_U_FINALRESULT.NEXTVAL INTO TEMP_ID FROM DUAL;
    END LOOP;
    END IF;
    COMMIT;
    RETURN (TEMP_ID);
    END;
    What I want is that I pass a seqencename with aTrigger and that two triggers will be equal if not.
    eg ifaTrigger = 'SQ_U_FINALRESULT'
    than I want the triggers LIMS.SQ_U_FINALRESULT and LIMS.SQ_U_FINALRESULT_USER to be set equal.
    The above function will not work, but what will?????

  • Additional Results Custom Step using Variables in Name and Value to Log expressions?

    I am trying to create a Custom Step Type for logging additional results - requiring a single Name and Value data pair included in the step.
    I want to pass the name and value data in using two specific variables.
    This functionality can of course be explicitly coded on a test step without problem, but I can't find a way to create a custom test step which inserts such a step i.e. automatically inserting the correct variable names into Name and Value to Log fields.
    Any ideas how to accomplish this? I don't want the custom step users to have to type in the variable names every time they use it.
    I am using TestStand 4.1.1
    Message Edited by CIM1 on 04-20-2009 07:26 AM

    Hi CIM1,
    There are a few ways of doing this.
    The simplest one would be to configure the expression in the Pre-Expression or Post-Expression (depending on whether you would like the Step Type to use the value in the variables or write the value to the variables) and then from here you can lock away the expressions from being edited. The caveat with this method is that you are obviously restricing the Pre/Post-Expressions for the step type.
    Another Method would be to code some code modules to Write to/Read from the Variables and then calling these in the Steps Pre-Step SubStep or Post-Step Substep. The advantages of this method would be that you can search for the Variable, and if the variable is not present, you could create it before writing to it.
    Hope this Helps.

  • Using Variable values to populate virtual key figure

    Hi Gurus,
    I want to populate virtual key figure in my report. I am using BADI for this. To populte VKF I want to use the variable values in my calculation. For eg. variable name is ZCAL_MON based on 0CALMONTH. When the user enters some value in this variable say 03.2010 I want to populate VKF for the last 12 months (sum for a period 04.2008 to 03.2009). I have written a customer exit in CMOD for variables but for vkf I am using BADI. Can anyone tell me how do I pass the variable value in populating vkf and also how do I total for the last 12 months?
    Utpal

    Hi,
    Did you find a solution. I'm just looking for the same thing.
    best regards..

  • Using variable values form parametrized URL in Customer Exit in i_step = 1

    Hello BW experts,
    I call a parametrized URL to a Web Template that has a Query with the variable VAR1:
    http://XXX?...&CMD=LDOC&template_id=TEMP1&VAR_NAME_1=VAR1&VAR_VALUE_EXT_1=2006
    Then I try to access the value of VAR1 in i_step = 1 in the Customer Exit for BEx variables in order to determine the value for a customer exit variable VAR2:
    WHEN 'VAR2'.
        IF i_step = 1.
          READ TABLE i_t_var_range INTO var_range
            WITH KEY vnam = 'VAR1'.
          fl_var_range-sign = 'I'.
          fl_var_range-opt = 'EQ'.
          fl_var_range-low = *some operation with var_range
          APPEND fl_var_range TO e_t_range.
        ENDIF.
    The problem is that VAR1 contains either the default values (if the variable is set to have default variables) or is empty (if there are no default variables defined). It does not retrieve the value in the URL in the Customer Exit, but displays it correctly in the variable screen.
    Is there any way I can acces the URL parameter in the Customer Exit?
    Thanks for any answers in advance.
    Michael

    Gili,
    thanks for your answer. The problem was, though, that the first value determines the behavior of the variable screen by setting the value of a customer exit variable.
    My goal was to have two variable screens. In the first a date is chosen and in the second a node of a time-dependant hierarchy is chosen. If one enters the date in the same screen as the hierarchy, the valid hierarchy for the date is not displayed.
    I solved the problem now in following way:
    <b>1. Saving the value in SAP Memory as a parameter.</b> The parameter has to be defined in SE80. A Dummy Web Template with a query on the same Infoprovider with just the two InfoObjects (Year/Month) displays a variable screen for Month/Year. In addition there is a Dummy Customer Exit variable that is needed in order to pass the variable values (month/year) into SAP Memory. Using JavaScript in the Dummy WebTemplate the second Web Template with the actual query is called without displaying anything else than the variable screen.
    WHEN 'DUMMY_CUSTOMEREXIT_VAR'.
        data: w_date like sy-datum
        IF i_step = 2.
          READ TABLE i_t_var_range INTO var_range
            WITH KEY vnam = 'VAR1'.
        do your peration
        i.e.  w_date(4)+2 = var_range-low.
                 w_date(6)+2 = var_range-high.
          SET PARAMETER ID 'ZBW_PARA1' FIELD w_date.
        ENDIF.
    <b>2. Retrieving the value from SAP Memory</b> Before displaying the variable screen, the chosen date is retrieved from SAP Memory and used to set the date for a customer exit variable for the hierarchy validity date.
    WHEN 'VAR2'.
        IF i_step = 1.
          GET PARAMETER ID 'ZBW_PARA1' FIELD w_date.
        do some operation with
          APPEND fl_var_range TO e_t_range.
        ENDIF.
    It is quite a comlex construct, but it works....

    Hi,
    The parser does not under variables directly in dml statements.u need to form a statement and the parse and execute the same...
    so the soln is
    Declare
    lv_stmt varchar2(250);
    Begin
    lv_stmt := 'Delete from '&#0124; &#0124;ls_prev_table;
    execute immediate lv_stmt;
    -- Same is the case with the insert stmt--
    End;
    This should solve ur problem.
    u could also give a direct call like
    execute immediate 'Delete from '&#0124; &#0124;ls_prev_table ;
    Note: This statement "execute immediate" holds good for oracle versions 8.x and above which makes the stmt very simple. For lower version u need to use the dbms_sql package to parse and execute the statement which has a series of statements for the same.

  • Cursor using variable table name

    I'm new to Oracle, and am wondering if I can create a cursor that can take a variable name as the table it's selecting from. I am working on an application that is loading data to 1 of 3 tables. The table name is stored as a variable and the loads are done using dymanic sql to constuct the insert statement. At the end, I want to select and process some specific info from the table that's been loaded by cycling thru a cursor on whichever of the 3 tables was populated. I could create 3 cursors, one for each table, test the table_name variable, and then reference the specific cursor that way, but I thought there must be another way to do this. I want to be able to do something like this:
    CURSOR loaded_table is select distinct(process_key) from 'v_tablename' (where v_tablename is either TABLE2, TABLE2 or TABLE3)
    Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
    Tks...MCR

    It's possible to use dynamic SQL for something like this. If we're only talking about three tables, though, my hunch is that you'll be much happier defining three different cursors. Dynamic SQL is significantly harder to write, debug, and maintain than static SQL, so you're better off resorting to it only when there are so many tables that static SQL is impractical.

  • Bundle install directory - using variables folder name

    Hello,
    I have bundle that has to copy a file to a specific folder in the userdirectory.

    How can I use that in my bundle .

    Lainkes

    Lainkes,
    The better variable to use would be %USERPROFILE%, which will point to the user profile directory on both Windows XP and Windows 7.
    You have a couple of options for your file copy action - you can either use a batch script within a "run script" bundle, or you can use an "install file" action.
    I'd recommend the "install file" action if it's not a terribly large file since that action results in the file being uploaded to the repository, and therefore does not require any mapped drives or UNC paths in order to copy to the client.
    Simply specify %USERPROFILE% in the "Destination Directory:" box in the install file action.

  • Changing TS title using variable value

    Hi
    Is there any way to change TS title (it takes TS name as default) dynamically. In MDT I know we can define few stuff as title like
    "_SMSTSOrgName=ABC:%TaskSequenceID% v3.0"
    Do we have such variables in config manager that can be changed for Config manager TS (like adding some step for task sequence variable and define value there) . Any pointers will be appreciated

    The Syntax of the builtin HOST is :
    SyntaxPROCEDURE HOST
    (system_command_string VARCHAR2);
    PROCEDURE HOST

  • INSERT statement in JSP using variables

    People,
    I am having problems inserting data from JSP into a MySQL database.
    For example the following works perfectly fine:
    String query = "INSERT INTO `test2` (`name`, `topic`, `message`) VALUES ('Jane Doe', 'Hi there', 'Example message')";
    But, however the problems take place if I try to use variable values as parameters instead of pre-defined strings.
    E.g. the following (among a 100 other ways I have tried by now) does not work):
    String query = "INSERT INTO `test2` (`name`) VALUES (`" + userName +"`)";
    stmt.executeUpdate(query);
    This did not work either:
    PreparedStatement PStmt = myConn.prepareStatement("insert into (`name`) values (?)");
    PStmt.setString(1, new String("`" + userName + "`"));
    PStmt.executeUpdate();
    I have tried without parenthesis etc. but what I pretty much get every time is:

    I would greatly appreciate any feedback.

    Hi,
    I think i know the problem.
    Take a look on your String code :
    "INSERT INTO `test2` (`name`, `topic`, `message`) VALUES ('Jane Doe', 'Hi there', 'Example message')";
    it is not necessary to put QUOTE for the tablename and the fields.
    my code work with :
    String query = "INSERT INTO test2 VALUES( ' " + 123 + " ' ) ";
    ( if you inserting into all fields in your table ) OR
    String query = "INSERT INTO test2 ( abc ) VALUES( ' " + 123+ " ' ) ";
    ( if you need to select certain fields ).
    or you can try to refer to :

    I dont think but you may go for custom captions
    You can refere @ for 'Grand Total'
    In caption Year@ results YearGrand Total
    Other workaround : Use Narrative views to refer the variables, you might need to call variable in any of column expression and call it @n
    where n is for column position from left to right

    Interestingly enough I always had the same impression that you had to use a function to do this but found out from someone else that all you need to do is change the radio button from Use Query-Specific Column Names and Validate Query to Use Generic Column Names (parse query at runtime only). Apex will substitute your bind variable for you at run-time (something you can't normally do in pl/sql without using dynamic sql)

  • Using a variables value as the name of another variable

    Hi, i'm new to java and i've been trying to write a little program. I was wondering whether it is possible to use the value of a variable as the name of another variable.
    This is what i have so far: When i run my java program numerous Animal objects are created with names like ani01, ani02, ani03. These objects have functions like getName() etc. When i type in one of these codes into the command line it gets stored in a variable called 'input'. Everything's fine up to here.
    But i need a way to access the correct Animal from my input. instead of doing countless switch statements on the input.
    If i type "ani02" i want it to return the animals name by calling ani02.getName()...
    how do i do this? i'd appreciate any help. thanks.

    If you were doing this based on user input, then you
    wouldn't have to do a lot of typing. Mmm?I'm sorry i don't get your meaning... ? I am doing this based on user input am i not?
    All i want to do is access the correct Animal object depending on the user's input... so if they type in ani01 it would return 'Elephant' (or whatever) using ani01.getName().
    Maybe i'm going about this the wrong way or something?.. I have about 30 animals. they each have a name, continent, quantity. I have an Animal class that has functions like getName(), setName() etc. When the program starts, 30 objects are created
    Animal ani01 = new Animal("Elephant",3000,"India");
    Animal ani02 = new Animal("Panda",200,"China");etc...
    I want to be able to get information about any one of these animals by typing something at the command line...
    so i type in something (i just thought the name of the object would be the best thing to type in) and i get the info about elephants (or whatever) from the relevant object.
    how would you do this?
