User account becomes corrupt with apps

Using 10.6.2 and over any 30 day period, eventually Quark Express 8.1.2 and Photoshop CS2 become unstable and crash more and more often. Soon, both apps will not function. But if I create a new user account, everything in both apps works fine and I'm good for another week or so, then, these apps start acting up again and eventually crash all the time. Then I'm on to another new user account. I have deleted QX & PS plists so many times without any results. Thanks!

It might be some sort of cache problem - try to find out where those two programs write their cache files and try clearing them out.
A better place to ask would be in Adobe's forums; the regulars there are much more knowledgeable about the ins and outs of how Adobe's software works.

  • Can a new User Account be corrupted?

I recently had to do an erase and reinstall of the OS in order to clear up some chronic problems on my iMac. I reinstalled Firefox and my favorite Firefox plugin but discovered the plugin is now not working properly.
Thinking it might be the fault of me trying to manually restore some of my Firefox files from my Time Machine backup, I decided to create a new user account and test the app and plugin there. After installing the plugin in Firefox under the new user, the same problem occurred!
I suppose it could just be a problem with the plugin and a total coincidence that it started acting up at the same time I was restoring things from the erase and reinstall. On the other hand, is it possible that whatever corruption that might be keeping the plugin from working could also exist on the new user account?
I checked the reviews on the plugin site and found no complaints.

Have you tried uninstalling it and reinstalling? Of course back everything up first.

  • Need help with network user accounts on Mac server App on Yosemite, any tips?

I've been trying to set up a small network with the Server app on Yosemite. I don't want to do anything crazy with the server, I'd just like to know how I can set up network user accounts so that they can login from other Mac computers on the same network. I already have Open directory set up, the Macs that will be used on the network with the server have already been joined to the server under login options. I have created the network user account, I have also joined the user account to a group that I created. When I try to login to the network account from one of the Macs, it doesn't work. I'm pretty rookie with Mac server, can anyway give me any pointers of what I should be doing? Or if I am doing something wrong. Thanks guys.

The most important step, once you've got Open Directory and DNS set up, with Local Network Users set up in Server.app, is to make sure that all client Macs are using the server's IP address as the primary DNS server in System Preferences > Network, and that they have joined the Network server in System Preferences > Users and Groups > Login Options.
Having said all that, I have just spent hours setting this all up only to find out that Mail doesn't currently work with Network Homes in 10.10.3 / Server.app 4.1.
I will be hoping that Apple recognise the bug, and put out a fix soon.

  • 3 user accounts on Mac with separate iTunes libraries

I have 3 user accounts on a Mac with separate iTunes libraries.  Home sharing is turned on for all 3 and all use the same home sharing login Apple ID).  On both Apple TV 2's all 3 libraries appear under "computers", however, only one is accesible (always the account that has been first opened on the computer) with the others saying "Could not connect to "xx Library".  When I have one home sharing turned on for this computer it is always accesible from the Apple TV and I can open up iTunes with the same home sharing ID from another Mac in the home and it will appear on the Apple TV with no problem.  Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks for your response ckuan.  These 3 libraries are using separate user accounts on the computer and when all 3 accounts have itunes open at the same time, the iPads have no problem seeing all 3 itunes libraries through home sharing, and for a brief moment yesterday, I was able to get one of the Apple TV's to connect to all 3, however that did not last long before only one was available and the other two eded up having the "could not connect error".  Do you have any other ideas?  I have already submitted this problem to Apple as I am sure that before the update (whether it was the Apple TV update or the iTunes update) I had no problem doing this.

  • User Account Control Problems with Premier Elements 7 32 bit in 64 Bit Windows 7

I found User Account Control Problems in other forums but didn't see much in Premiere Elements, so I hope this helps others who may be having problems with 32 bit programs in a 64 bit computor. When I first got my 64 bit I didn't have problems.
Back in February I bought a Quad Core Desktop with Windows 7 64 bit. Haven't been on the forum for 7 months since I wrote in regarding importing video with the Pyro AV Link (Premiere Elements Tips and Tricks). I was having problems importing video which started after March 28 sometime, as that was the last time I didn't have a problem importing VHS. Took me a few months off and on to find out what worked.
I started uninstalling Windows updates and any programs I had installed back to that point in time. Checked after uninstalling each item. The capture screen would come up on a delayed basis but clicking on capture did nothing. Although no driver is required for IE1394 (so they say) I read where some people using the Legacy driver had fixed some problems, so I switched to the Legacy. Seemed to work great (for a few minutes).
I had even uninstalled and reinstalled PE7 but no difference. Finally I noticed a shield in the PE7 Desktop icon. Thats weird. Never had that before. Just decided to show up after I had done all of the stuff I mentioned. Turns out at some point in time since I've had the computor Windows 7 decided to flag my 32 bit program as misusing the 64 bit system. User Account Control. I never bothered too much with UAC and just clicked on the yes box wen it popped up asking if I wanted this or that to take control of my computor. I tried using the minimum setting for safety reasons, and then finally turned User Account Control off. Bingo! PE7 capture works again and still working.
While I am not recommending that people arbitrarily turn UAC off, this appeared to be my problem. I would recommed that they try turning it off before uninstallin a bunch of stuff. Having a restore point may or may not have been a fix for me. I think one of the Windows Updates caused the problem but I am not going to uninstall any more stuff at this point, I have not been back on the internet or installed any more updates in my desktop. I am going to use my laptop for internet and used the desktop for video.
I am guessing this could be a problem for any 64 bit systems trying to use 32 bit programs. IE: XP,Vista,Windows 7 64 bit. In Vista there is also Data Execution Prevention (DEP) which you can turn on or off, supposedly to prevent misuse of memory (as I understand it), but Win7 either doesn't have it or I haven't found where it's located.
Maybe this has been covered in the forum somewhere and I missed reading it. Hope I am not too confusing. Anyway, whatever feedback you guys have would be great.

    John,
Thanks for your answer, and I did check out the link you suggested. However, I have Windows 7 Home Premium as most people have I think, and the XP program was not available. I started with Vista and now have Win 7. I never could navigate around in XP anyway so am content to just leave User Account Control off.
Interesting side note to turning UAC off is that my desktop seemed to be using more of the CPUs, where half of them were "Parked" as I wrote in also about 7 months ago when I 1st got my desktop. I am pleased to say that video processing seems to go quicker with UAC off. Have to observe things some more to confirm.
I just thought if others were having problems after installing Windows Updates and leaving UAC off worked then they could possibly pinpoint a problem.

  • Admin User Account is Corrupted

Is there a way to fix a corrupted admin user in FCSvr? I know this is a vague question but I have no way of finding out what caused the corruption.
My main admin user account no longer sees all of the assets within FCSvr when I search in the asset browser. I could just create a new user but if there is a way to correct this is would be helpful as I have many users on my system and fixing and existing users would be better than creating new ones.

After a little further investigation this is what I've found:
When searching for assets within FCSvr there are 2 users (of 10 or so) seem to get different when using the same search words. I've made sure the "sort by" category is set to "none" when searching so in theory everyone should get the same search results. Two don't.
I checked the StoreD Logs per dredcomm's suggestion and this is what I've found:

  • I can't safe reboot if I choose my user account, no problem with the rest or user's accounts

    Hi to all,
Since I've installed ML and also after 10.8.1 upgrade, my account is behaving very strangely.
It does seem to work, but every time I restart in my account, it takes ages and starts up app I've already closed (as if it was frozen when restarted), I get Toast 10, Disk Utility, App Store, Safari, Mail and Photoshop. Slowly, very slowly, in this order. I had improved, as I had some reboots with the Mountain Lion installer asking to instal Mac OS X!
Oddly enought, that first times Finder didn't show when I pressed Cmd-Tab for changing applications, it would show only if I clicked on the Desktop.
I did a clean install of ML and imported from Time Machine. I also did a "upgrade install", that is, over what I had (already ML).
I can't restart or close down unless I do it on the cold way, that is, pressing the power butto, as I can get no shutdown dialog, and if I choose from the Apple Menu, no matter what I choose, nothing seems to happen. Same when I choose "About this Mac", nothing happens, I have to manually open System Profiler.
But, in contrast, I can open from the Apple Menu App Store with no problems, for example.
Now I reboot and shutdown my Mac thanks to the Terminal!
Another "minor" inconvenient is that my Mail Rules weren't imported, and I don't know how to pass them to the new Mail, so all my Mail lies there in the "Inbox" unclassificated
If I go to a different user, then everything works apparently. So it must be something I have added, but it can be something installed many System versions before, so I have no idea on how to track it down, although I've deleted many old applications and preferences, including some problematic Fonts, Perian, etc.
I tried safe boot, but when I enter in my user, screen turns light gray and it doesn't start anything, so I have to force a cold shutdown again with the power button and restart again.
Safe boot with a different account has no problem again.
Sorry for the looong explanation, but, although I can work in my user, I'm worried as my work slows down a lot.
Thanks in advance to any help you can give me!

    Sorry for the delay...
I did what you've told me, new account and manually copied my files from Time Machine. I had lots of permissions problems, but at the end, almost everything is in order... It seems it had to be with some of the Apple Preferences, but I can't be sure, as most of them were dumped to the trash can.
I still don't have my Mail Rules back, unfortunately, although I did goggled some. It is a pity, as I had around 30 or 40 of them, getting my mail in order to each of its mailboxes, but it is a small price as the rest doesn't show the before syntoms.
    Thanks for the help, anyway!!

  • Can I filter out a corrupted user account and app as part of a migration?

I am in the process of upgrading from Tiger to Leopard. I did an erase and install because of some issues with the old system, one being a corrupted user account. I am reluctant to use Migration Assistant because I don't want to bring that corrupted account over.
I have read in some other posts that if you already have a user account with a certain name in Leopard and you try to bring over one with the same same from Tiger, it will not transfer. Is this correct? If that is so I would create a user account in Leopard with the same name as the corrupted account in Tiger and that would block it, right? The next question is what constitutes the user account name, is it the designated name, often the computer name or is it the short name, often the same as the designated name but run together if it is two words. I guess I could just duplicate both names the way they appear in Tiger. Will that do it?
On a related note, is there any substantial difference between doing a simple upgrade on the one hand as opposed to an erase and install and then using migration assistant to bring everything over that way? I have a QT issue and along with the corrupted user account, I made the decision to use the erase and install option and essentially start from scratch. This, however, creates a lot of extra and perhaps unnecessary work. Would it help if I just deleted QT in Tiger so it couldn't be migrated?

There is a Mac OS X 10.5 help topic that answers most of your questions. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to be available online & obviously, you can't access it on your own Mac without Leopard already being installed -- a bit of a Catch-22!
Anyway, below I have copied the text of that topic from my own Help Viewer. It lacks the formatting of the original, but I hope it will be of some use to you anyway.
*Using Migration Assistant to transfer files from another Mac*
If you need to transfer your files and important settings from an older Mac to a new one, and both computers use Mac OS X, you can use Migration Assistant.
Before using Migration Assistant, make sure you have a FireWire cable to connect the two computers.
NOTICE: If you experienced problems while using some files or applications on your old computer, you may not want to transfer those files and applications to your new computer. If you do, you may transfer corrupted data or incompatible files.
To transfer files using Migration Assistant:
1 On your new computer, open Migration Assistant, located in the Utilities folder in your Applications folder. Read the Introduction screen, and then click Continue.
2 If a dialog appears, type your password, and then click OK.
3 In the Migration Method screen, select “From another Mac,” and then click Continue.
4 Connect a FireWire cable from your new Mac to your older Mac, and then click Continue.
5 Follow the instructions in Migration Assistant to restart your older Mac and select the hard disk and user accounts from which you want to transfer. Then, select whether you want to transfer applications, files and folders, or your Library folder.
NOTE: When you first open a transferred application on your new computer, you may need to reenter the application’s serial number or registration code.
6 Select whether you want to use your old network, time zone, and sharing settings, and then click Transfer.
When Migration Assistant is finished, click Quit.
You can use Migration Assistant with a MacBook Air if both computers are connected to the same Ethernet or wireless network. See “MacBook Air: How to use Migration Assistant” at the Apple support website.

  • Corrupted User Account

I recently made the mistake of installing office 2008. Somehow after I did this my one and only user account was corrupted. This causes word in particular to crash every time I try to insert a bullet.
After talking to the clowns a MS they tell me this is because my user account has become corrupted! and that I need to breate a new one and migrate everything across.
I have not been able to find a help doc on this topic so was wondering if anyone knows how I can to this
    I am running leppoard

I sure would appreciate some help to resolve this issue of corrupt user accounts. The problem is quite separate from corrupt software preferences. Here's my situation: Microsoft Excel v.X crashed after several hours of use last night. It has refused to relaunch. Same with Word and Entourage. I've restarted, I've purged all the related preferences, I've uninstalled Office using Microsoft's removal tool, and I've repaired permissions... all without success.
However, when I log in as a different user, Office works normally. Very weird. Somebody out there must understand these mysteries and know just how to fix it. Either I must find a way to repair my user account, it seems to me, or a way to completely migrate all my extensive workspace to a different user account.
    Please help!

  • User Account corrupted by Snow Leopard install?

I installed Snow Leopard on my 24-inch iMac last evening from a Family Pack DVD.
Within three minutes of starting the install, my computer locked up. Waited about an hour to make sure it was really crashed vs. working slow. Finally admitted defeat and restarted the computer. At that time, the screen told me it found an install in progress -- did I want to recover it? My setting etc. would not be affected. I said yes.
The install completed seemingly like a dream.
However, the computer now takes an average of three minutes to complete any task. And by "complete any task" I mean even getting a pulldown menu to appear. It's as if the computer freezes up for three minutes, then unfreezes for five seconds, then freezes again.
What I have tried: I saw a tip somewhere that I should determine whether the whole system/computer is affected or only a specific user account. My computer has only one user account -- mine -- with all the admin privileges, etc. I was able to log on as a guest and everything seems to work beautifully and quickly. Of course, I can't access any of my files or settings from the guest account.
So, it APPEARS that my user account is corrupted somehow. It's hard to imagine trying to work on that from inside the account itself, since it operates in extreme slow motion and is de facto frozen.
What should I do? Do I create a new user account that is admin and delete the old? How do I access my files, settings, etc.?
I don't THINK I need to uninstall Snow Leopard or reinstall it because the guest account seems completely fine.
One other bit of info that may help a knowledgeable person puzzle through this with me: During the Snow Leopard installation, it gave me some pop-up questions concerning duplicate files -- maybe 30 or so -- that were all photos inside iPhoto. (I knew I had a couple dozen photos that I had inadvertently put on the computer twice, but they have resided there for a long time without creating problems. It asked me if I wanted to keep the duplicates or replace them with the originals, and I said "replace" -- it asked me that for each photo. Once the install was finished, there was a stack of photo icons on my desktop screen, piled on top of each other like a deck of cards -- they are the duplicate photos. I don't know if that has anything to do with the problem or not. Again, it's pretty much impossible to work inside that user account at this point so I'm not sure that's relevant.
Anyway, I am not a technical person and would sure appreciate advice.
By the way, because of these problems, I have not tried to install my family pack upgrade on my other iMac -- it is running "old" Leopard and I think I'll definitely leave it as is. Would you folks agree that's wise at this stage?
    Thanks again.

    hpaton wrote:
R C-R, thanks, I did start up in safe mode and went back into my old user account, the one that is giving me all the trouble. It was very slightly faster. I was able to start up a couple programs and when inside those programs the computer seemed to run pretty fast. However, anything on the desktop or the dock still operates in the frozen-for-three-minutes-OK-for-five-seconds-frozen-for-three-minutes pattern.
In any case, HOLY COW I THINK I FOUND A PROBLEM. Remember that stack of photo icons I told you got placed on my desktop after Snow Leopard installation? I thought it was perhaps 30 photos ... wrong! It is a card stack of all 2,900 photos I have on my computer. (I was able to see this by going into the hard drive icon then drilling down on the desktop, and there was just an endless ocean of photo files on display there.) I presume this is what is crippling my desktop/finder function?
yes, definitely. as I said, having a lot of pics on the desktop will make finder keel over because it has to render all of them. you should try moving them to a separate folder.
log into your account, start terminal and run the following command 9copy and paste please)
    mkdir ~/pics; mv ~/desktop/* ~/pics
wait for it to finish. it will move everything from your desktop folder to the folder pics at the top level of your home directory. nothing will be deleted by this so if something is really missing from iphoto you should be able to recover it later.
Presuming this is THE problem, what do I do? I can't tell whether I should try to delete all of those photos off of the desktop or do something else. I WAS able to open iPhoto and it looked like all my photos were still in there, BUT if I double click on any of them to enlarge them or try to edit them, I can't. That's all I know at this point -- don't know if that represents the entire problem, but there is no doubt I have a major issue around iPhoto and my photo files. How do I resolve that without losing my pics?

  • Can not get to Login Screen. Possible User Account or .plist Corruption?

I was helping a client who is upgrading both her desktop and a laptop machine. She had already started the process and she had used the migration tool to move her user account from her old G4 to both her new Mac Pro and MacBook pro. So basically both new machines were now clones of the old G4 which was running Tiger.
Everything was going well and we were busy doing some other stuff when I suggested to her that she should set up a secondary user account on each machine. This is something I suggest to users, because I have seen user accounts get corrupted, and if that account is the ONLY account on the machine, you are not going to be able to do anything on that machine (easily). At least with teh other account, you can log in and see the drive, etc.
So she set up a new user and also enabled fast user switching and I was about to show her how the whole user switching works, but when we choose to log out of her current account, the Mac went to blue screen and just got hung up. After much waiting we had to force a hard shut down. Upon restart we see the Apple logo and then go to the blue screen, but we never reach the login screen.
I wrote this off as a fluke, but also told her that I am not to comfortable with that and decided to completely wipe the drive and do a fresh install of everything and not use the migration assistant. All is well with that machine now.
So we moved on to the Mac Book Pro and we repeated the same addition of a user and upon logout it did the exact same thing. So by now I am sure that something in the library form the old G4 must be corrupt, because both of these machines were basically clones of that one. So we are probably going to do the same thing to this one too, but I was wondering if I could learn something from this.
Assuming that some .plist is corrupted, ( probably the com.apple.loginwindow.plist) I was thinking I could access the drive through target mode, find that. plist and delete it. But then that made me think, if I were to delete it, what would the Mac do at startup if it sees no .plist of the login screen or user accounts?
Also, is there a way to alter the login options through single user mode. So for example I am quite sure that it is the .plist for the log-in options that is corrupted. So if I could change the login option to automatically log into her account, thus bypassing the login screen, I think we can bypass this issue for now.
    Thanks.

First you don't delete the suspect .plist, you move or rename it. Deletion is down the road a piece
Second, when the system boots, it recreates any missing .plist files, presuming nothing else is wrong.
Many, including myself, have dragged the entire Preferences directory onto the desktop and rebooted without a problem.

  • Security update 2010-04-14 corrupted my user account

Has anyone else had a corrupted user account after installing the security update for Snow Leopard, 14th April ?
I applied the update, restarted my machine fine at home last night. Then I shut down my machine in full.
This morning I connected the ethernet to connect to my work Windows network domain. Turned the machine on and could not log in at all, my user account was corrupt. I ran permissions verification and repair from the admin account which has fixed the issue.
    Anyone else experiencing this ?
    Regards,
    -- Ross

Sorry for not being more specific. I was trying to update the WebKit rendering engine of Safari by replacing the following frameworks in the system folder: Javascriptglue (PrivateFrameworks), Javascriptcore, Webcore, Webkit. After discovering that this caused problems with software update and installer, I reverted back from the Time Machine backups of these frameworks. Now, I can not open any application that relies on these frameworks in my user account, which leads me to believe that a cache or preference file is corrupted, but I have no idea where to start looking. Most applications in other users accounts work fine, but for some reason Pacifist will not open the 10.5.2 package (to replace the frameworks). I'm writing this in Safari right now, and everything is fine. That's why I think the main system folders are fine, except for a cache here or there. Unfortunately, Onyx won't open so I can't replace the caches and do other tasks of that sort.
I could just roll back to before I tampered using Time Machine. Will that solve the problem, or is an archive and install a safer bet? I'm not sure that an archive and install will fix any problems that my user account is having, since I just created this new account today (thank god i enabled the guest account so I could access system preferences!) and it works fine, as I have already said. I hope this helps explain the specific problem. I'm just not sure how or why only my user account is affected. If the system files were corrupted, every account would have the same issue.

  • Unix Guru to help with User Account re-install.

I have a glitch in my main Administrator account which prevents Adobe Photoshop CS2 opening or importing files of any kind from any file.
A dialogue box tells me “Could not complete your request because of a program error.”
Adobe refers to Tech Note 331307 item 2, which offers tests and options most of which I have tried. When I establish a new User Account I am able to use Photoshop fine which suggests the Admin User Account is corrupted.
According to the tech note, my only remaining option is to re-initialize the disk and rebuild system completely. That is a very big task which I seek to avoid.
    I have:
    1. Run Disk Doctor over all Fonts in all folders and fixed or deleted damaged Fonts.
    2. Run Disk Warrior and re-run Permissions with Xupport.
    3. Opened as Single user, run fsck -f. remounted disk, moved and replaced db/netinfo and replaced AppleSetupDone. All confirmed OK but glitch remained for Photoshop CS2.
Can any Guru offer a Unix solution - or any solution, which avoids
re-formatting and building my complete system?
Alternatively, given I have many addresses and bookmarks to preserve in three browsers as well as my Mail and Address book, what is the best method by which to establish a new account and delete the old one.
    Many Thanks
    Mezolithic.

    Hi Tony
Yes I can confirm that this doesn't wipe out address book details and Internet set-up prefs and bookmarks.
In fact putil cannot wipe out anything. It's purpose is to check the syntax of plist files or convert a plist file to another format. No conversion is taking pace here. The -s option means output is supressed, so if you don't see anything, it means there are no errors to report.
The * character means "all" , in this case all plist files.
Eg. If you wanted to list all of the document files ending in .doc, in say a Documents folder but not .txt files, you could specify *.doc. Similarly if you wanted to list all documents named reports, regardless of the extension, you would use reports.*
So that is the usage of *.
If you found this information helpful, please consider awarding stars. It is entirely up to you.
    regards roam

  • I cannot log into user account with old password after using migration assistant.

I used Migration Assistant to move only my Settings and Users from my Power PC (User name RLE 5) to my Mac Pro.  Because of what I have read in these forums I did not migrate applications or and files/folders. I will do that manually.  After migrating I tried logging in to my user account RLE 5 on my Mac Pro, but it is telling me I am using the wrong password.  I used the same password I used on my Power PC, but with no luck.  On my Mac Pro I went into System Preferences>Accounts>RLE 5 account and changed the password.  I then rebooted and tried again.  No luck.
Can somebody help me with this problem?
    Thank you.

What you propose would not solve the problem I am having.  I must not have been clear about it.  So I will elaborate.
I have a Power PC with 10.5.8.  The admin user account name is RLE 5.  I need a password to log into my root user account on my Power PC.
Then I bought a used Mac Pro with a clean install of 10.7.5 and no password set up yet for my admin user account.  The admin user account name is Mac Pro.  When I turn on the computer it opens to my admin user account where I have access to everything.
I used Migrations Assistant to move my Settings and Users from my Power PC to my Mac Pro.  That seemed to to successfully.
So I now have four users on my Mac Pro:  RLE 5 (the admin user from my Power PC with the password), Mac Pro (my admin user which does not require a password), and two guest user accounts.
I turn on my Mac Pro and it opens to my Mac Pro admin user account.  I don't need to sign in.  No problem.
I log out of Mac Pro.  On my screen are the four user accounts.  I click on RLE 5 (which was my admin user account on my Power PC that I migrated over to my Mac Pro) to log into that account and it asks me for a password.  I type in the password I used for my Power PC.  It keeps telling me it is the incorrect password.
I cannot log into my user account RLE 5 on the Mac Pro.  I am being told I have the incorrect password. I've gone to System Preferences>Accounts and changed the password.  It doesn't make a difference.
Also I cannot log into the Guest User account that migrated from the Power PC to the Mac Pro for the same reason.  I have also tried to change the password for that Guest User account also but with no luck.
Another interesting thing has happened.  I decided to give my Mac Pro admin user account a password by going to System Preferences>Accounts.  But when I do a test to sign into my admin user account Mac Pro it tells me it is the wrong password.  Luckily I can reboot the computer and it opens to my Mac Pro user without asking for a password.  But if I log out of Mac Pro and try to then sign back in with the password it tells me it is the incorrect password.
    Any suggestions would be appreciated.

  • Help - iMac Storage/New user account question

Ok - so I've assumed that my user account was corrupt as Ive been having problems with Safari crashing/freezing the whole of my Mac, but thats another storey.
So i decided to create a new user account to delete the old one. I copied the following folders from my original user account into the shared folder first of all:
    Pictures
    Music
    Movies
    Documents
I've now deleted the old account and copied these folders from Shared into my new user account - actually Ive just left Music, Pictures & Movies in shared and am going to point the relevant apps such as iTunes to the shared folder.
The problem I have, is that I've lost over 100gb of storage somewhere on the Mac and I can't see where!
As far as I can see, I've deleted everything so that there is only one copy now and have emptied the Trash folder.
Anybody got any suggestions - perhaps a hidden folder somewhere?
    Thanks

    >>... I can't seem to see it anywhere anyway...
It would be a folder or disk image (.dmg) in /Users, along with your current account home.
    >>I might try and get rid of the Events folder - not sure if I need that or not?
iMovie (2013): Updating projects and events from previous versions of iMovie
    and especially
iMovie (2013): Removing old libraries after updating
    say that you probably don't...
'You can delete these folders if you no longer want to work with them in the previous version of iMovie.
Before removing your projects and events, make sure they have been updated for iMovie version 10.'
