User based News Updates

Hello all,
i have request from a customer to create a news update area on part of a web page and i am unaware of exactly how to do this, i have knowledge in creating static websites and im currently delving into the depths of dynamic sites but am currently a novice at doing so.
The sites page looks like this

as you can see the area marked latest news is where my customer would like to be able to update at his leisure.
I can competently use the Adobe CS4 suite, but i have next to zero knowledge of MySQL and PHP but i am currently trying to learn at my own pace
Any advice on this matter would be greatly appreciated.

From the sounds of it you are learning while working with the client but they want to have more control which is perfectly understandle. Have you considered CMS alternatives like CMSMS (CMS Made Simple), Drupal, Wordpress, etc.? I say this because if you are comfortable enough with HTML & CSS you should be able to skin those without issue and then use their news modules which are fairly robust to handle the input from the client. That would be the direction I would go in your situation. Wordpress is the simplest version especially if a news/blog is what they want. CMSMS has a little more advanced of an interface, but I have found that end users are able to understand it fairly easily. Drupal is a little more complicated but does have more offers if you have the time to invest in learning it.

You would make address lables with the Contacts app.
If you don't have the user name and password used to set up the machine then you need to purchase the apps for yourself.

Yup, updated my Apple TV and got sky news and a couple of other new apps I will never use. I am growing increasingly fed up with looking at all the good stuff there is on offer in America and nothing in the UK..... I know I shouldn't look :)
And it's not just Apple I suppose, checking out the apple and Microsoft US movie stores and they have a much better selection. Wish we all had the willpower to stop giving these companies money until they fulfil customer needs...

User based uninstall collections - Dynamic

Hi Guys,
I have been looking for sometime at how User based uninstalls are done and I see that mostly people do an Exclude on the collection and deploy an uninstall to basically everyone who DOESNT have the application deployed to them. The issue with this is
if you have a high number of apps (500 lets say) you deploy 400 either uninstall or install deployments to everyone which dramatically slows down deployment of apps on new machines etc.
With APP-V the queries are fairly straight forward and we have dynamically changing uninstall collections that only show users that have the app for them in a compliant state on a workstation in the estate, when they are fully unpublished they drop
out of the collection based on compliance state.
I am trying to achieve the same method for uninstall collections where physical installs are used. Unfortunately there isn't a class like the APP-V AppClientState for Physical apps, or from what I can see at least and just wanted to see if anyone had
achieved uninstall collection for physical apps in a more dynamic way than doing Include/Exclude on the collections which I see as very static and uneconomical.

This query basically finds all workstations with a specific Display name in ARP, it then looks at the topconsoleuser in the SystemConsoleUsage class for that workstation. The User resource is then pulled back based on that username and the uninstall is deployed
to the user alongside the install.
When the machine tied to that user no longer has that software installed the user drops out of the collection. I have these collections scheduled to do an update overnight at random intervals.
You will note at the end i use a "NOT IN" clause so i can exlude specific accounts from being included in the uninstall collections. The reason for this is we have a couple of service accounts that gets used heavily in various places
and end up getting registered as the top consoleuser in some instances. This is put in as a safeguard.
the only bits in the query that change is the <DisplayName> section which is what gets added in ARP.

Again you need to be careful here as a program may have the same displayname as another if it hasnt been versioned correctly. in this case it may be better to use another attribute such and Product GUID.
Lastly if you choose to have an exclude collection like myself the collection Class will also need amending:

Somone may say there is an issue with doing it this way. obviously if users roam a lot you could end up stripping software off peoples machines which is why i say it may not suit some environments but this goes quite well where we are.
Some users may also not show if they are not yet registered as the TopConsoleUser of their workstation yet as this is a 3 month calculation (if i remember rightly). If this is being put in with a new not yet deployed app it looks clean from a returned list
of users standpoint, if however you have an estate where applications have never been unstalled and workstations have changed hands, initially you will see a lot of users in the uninstall collections which werent in the install. These applications will uninstall
for them and they will drop out of the collections.
Hican, like i said adding the software metering part in to the above query could prove even more economical as the uninstall deployment wouldn't actually be deployed if the software was active. If i get a chance i will look at this.
Hopefully the above makes sense, obviously this is just my take on how to do some uninstall collections and if somone decides to try it they are doing so at their own risk. retrofitting uninstalls is painful and risky.

Automatically Assign to user based on email

Hi Guys
One of our IT managers would like to be able to have service requests automatically assigned to members of his team based on emails he sends.
At the moment we have an exchange connector set up that logs Service Requests for his team, and assigns it to the their support group. I'm trying to figure out the best way to further refine it to then assign it to a support person based on some criteria
within the email itself. The way i figure it, I'll need to to do it via Orchestrator.
I'm thinking something like:
Email generated Service Request triggers a runbook, that either pulls the email attachment out of the SR and then does (something) to resolve the AD User from the CC field and assigns it to that person. Then he can just CC the team member and it will assign
it. The hard bit is figuring out how to resolve an AD user from a field in a *.eml file.
or
He types the AD name of the user on say line 1 of the email, then orchestrator reads that line and looks up the AD user based on that. Seems easy enough but then he will need to make sure he uses either the absolutely correct spelling of their name, or type
their SAMAccountName out.
By email CC field is the more user friendly option but I have no idea if that's even possible.
Does anyone have any thoughts about how to go about this?

OK so he has changed his request now after I spoke to him.
He now wants any emailed service request to be automatically assigned to the sender.
So basically I need to create a runbook to set the Assigned To user to be the same as the Affected User.
Sounded easy enough, but the "assigned to" field is not present in the orchestrator update object action. I think this is now a question for the Orchestrator forum so i'll mark this off and start a new thread there.

OIM - Suspend user based on criteria

I want to disable a user based on some criteria(say one of the profile attribute value changes to false) configured.
Say one of the attributes of a user changes and due to this change user should be disabled from accessing any of the resources or may be only one of the resources which he is provisioned to?
Does any one have any idea how this can be achieved?

This could be accomplished through access policies and denying access based on group membership to certain resources.
You could possibly create a process update trigger for that field on the Xellerate User process that when that field is modified, it checks the new value of the field to see if it matches your ruleset to be disabled for, and then update the USR_STATUS to be Inactive/Disabled (whichever is the value when disabled) which might in turn trigger the disable action against all their other resources.
Without testing, this is just an idea that might work.

For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it, which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down page in case one of them applies.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there is backup and recovery advice elsewhere in the user tip.

OIM - Email notification to a specific user based on a dynamic rule

Hello, After creation of account in a particular target resource I need to send an email to a specific user based on the location of the user (e.g area admin).
In the notification tab of process tasks, I see only "Assignee", "Requestor", "User", "User Manager"? How can I achive the above specified requirement?
Before posting this question, I tried to search the forum for any previous posts related to this. But I couldn't find any. May be I was not searching with right key words.
Any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

You'll need to custom code an adapter to send the email, then you can send to any user you want. Create a new task and trigger it off the completion response code. You can use the following apis:

I have reinstalled 3 times, the first time I didn't remove the old version, I installed the update over it. Next I tried the repair function under Control Panel. After that, I uninstalled Itunes and reinstalled again from the website. I still get the same message about missing files from Windows.

I was installing a new update on my MacBook Pro. With only 20% left it said "an unknown error had occured, please restart your computer." Now that I've restarted - I can't log in!

Ok, my MacBook haven't had any issues earlier, until today. At first Safari was acting kind of weird in that sense that a lot of letters were missing when you went on certain webpages, so I thought of updating since an alert-window popped up and notified that new updates were ready to be installed. So I opened up App Store through my Applications-folder and selected update.
First it asked if I wanted to connect my Mac to a powersource but since I had charged the battery to 79% I didn't think it was necessary. So I continued, computer restarted and began installing the updates.
Everything went fine until it was approximately three minutes left. An error message popped up and said something like "An unknown error has occured. Please restart your computer and try again". I pressed OK, rebooted my computer and when it asked for my password I typed it in. After I pressed OK, the computer indicated it was the wrong password. I tried multiple times and sometimes with different passwords... so now I can't simply log in! What's the problem?
TL;DR - Updated mac, failed after five minutes and now I can't log back in since "I have the wrong password"

With the new update my screen is not wide enough for the format. How do I change this?

After the new update, the screen shows only 3/4 of what is presented. I have reduced the size of the print and that did not help. For instance, in typing this, once I got as far as "presented" the screen had to shift to the left to allow me to see what I was typing. It did this automatically. I don't know what caused this in the latest edition of the update, but it has caused me a number of problems in doing on line banking because unmovable windows do not show enough to allow me to hit the submit button.
I want to see the entire window when I log onto a site. When I now open Yahoo News for instance, I cannot see the last three inches. I can see them if I move the page over, but up until now, I have always seen the entire page when it comes up without having to take any action on my part.
Where do I go or what do I do to get it back to how it always functioned before?
I opened the learn system and it references a Mozilla tool bar which I do not have either. Don't know if this is relevant or not.

Firefox on Windows is now following display scaling options which may render text larger on high resolution displays. There's more than one way to resolve this problem. I was so delighted, after waiting the 20 minutes for your latest OS X 10.6.8.whatever Snow Leopard to load itself, restart itself, and load itself again, that I actually hugged myself with joy; but nothing could have exceeded the sheer ecstasy of discovering that -- once again -- Apple has MORE than met the usual expectations with whatever the update has done to iTunes, and even to apps -- Firefox, Photoshop, and Photoshop Elements, just as minor examples -- that have nothing whatsoever to do with Apple! THAT'S what I call attention to users' wants!
This afternoon, I downloaded several gigabytes of public domain music from the State of Florida's Folklore site (I'd give you the URL, but somehow, in Apple's technical excellence, the new OS X 10.6.x update blew every bit of history up until the past 5 minutes, all cookies, and, MOST welcome of all, EVERY STORED PASSWORD for the hundreds of password-protected sites, forums, and wonderful discussion groups -- including this one -- I've ever belonged to right out of Firefox 5.0.1! Who knew Apple would be so thoughtful as to NOT merely CLEAN, but annhilate, Firefox's cache & cookies, whether I wanted it to or not? What a bunch of swell engineers and forward thinkers!)
But I digress... back to iTunes. After I DL'd all that great stuff from the Florida Folklore site, I copied it all into iTunes, and made nice playlists for everything I got, all neat and organized so if I wanted to listen to the Georgia Sea Island Singers, or, say, Doc Watson, or Bill Monroe, all I had to do was go to the rock-solid iTunes playlists. And yes, I closed iTunes and reopened it just to make sure the playlists were there and had the right music in it, because... well, once in a millenium or so, an iTunes update does funny things to your iTunes catalog. You know: it doesn't feel... well, fresh, if you catch my meaning. Everything was fine and life was good. So I closed iTunes again, full of hope and butterflies and rainbows and good thoughts and stuff like that.
I came back to my Mac this evening and discovered that software update had new and greater marvels for me, in the form of 7 new updates. "SEVEN!" I thought, this has gotta be great, like maybe FINALLY support for 1080p through the now 3+ year-old MiniDisplayPort's input.
That stuff's chump change. Apple's no piker! I could never have even dreamed that an Apple Update would do so many things to so many apps, so completely and irreversibly -- not only blow out all the bookmark history and passwords from Firefox, but strip out every single new playlist I made this morning on iTunes, and hide EVERYTHING I'd added to iTunes in the last three months so that the Music Library couldn't find it! I was awestruck! But my joy would soon be lifted to an even higher plane!
Not only did the System Update strip iTunes of every new playlist I created this morning, it simplified iTunes EVEN MORE for me, by moving every single music file I'd added since June 7, 2011, to places where iTunes can't SEE them, and they don't clutter up the main Music Library window in iTunes anymore. Is that GREAT or what? Now I get to manually replace several hundred music files, and therefore save myself from the tedium of actually getting WORK done. It's like an iTunes Boot Camp Vacation! Just as a for-instance, here's how the new OS update logically placed some of the files I had taken such care to make sure were available in iTunes, both in their playlists, and in the Music Library:
None of the songs from "Shall We Gather at The River" or "Florida Folklife Collection" show up in my Music Library now, by golly, so I don't have to waste my time listening to music I worked for a considerable time to get all safely tucked away in the glory that is iTunes. Ahhh, who needs music anyway?
BUT, being a "I love surprises" kinda guy, I've saved the BEST for LAST (also because I just found it out, when I tried to re-save these TIFF screen shots by taking them (first try) into PhotoshopCS and (second try) taking them into Photoshop Elements, which I keep as a quick & dirty backup app for just such purposes. Imagine my utter SPASMS of delight when BOTH Adobe products -- long-since bought and exorbitant-license-paid-for -- told me (A -- Photoshop): "You're missing a critical component and Adobe Photoshop can't open these files," then (B -- PS Elements): "Your license has expired for this product; you must procure a new license from Adobe Products)! BZZZZTTT! Wrong, I'm running valid retail licenses for both products -- or I WAS until the latest OS Update came along and blew my licenses out the back door. And who KNOWS about the hundreds of other apps and utilities I've paid tens of thousands of dollars over the years for? Have Apple's Update Engineering Wizards made THEM essentially non-functional, too? It's 1AM, and a little too late to explore. I can't WAIT to get on the phone to Apple Care and ask them to congratulate the engineers of this latest and -- so-far -- most spectacular update!

Sorry, but I have no idea what it is you're referring to. You seem to be picking up a conversation in the middle, perhaps something you've been communicating with the iTunes Store about. None of us here work for Apple nor are able to know what you and the iTunes Store have said to each other, so you will need to explain in more detail your issue and what you wish us, your fellow users, to help you with.

I was recently prompted to update my Itunes player to the latest version. I'm using Windows Vista. I was left with an error message MSVCR80.dll and consequently no new update. I uninstalled the old version and have tried to reinstall manually. No luck

Go to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs (Win XP) or Programs and Features (later)
Remove all of these items in the following order:
iTunes
Apple Software Update
Apple Mobile Device Support (if this won't uninstall move on to the next item)
Bonjour
Apple Application Support
Reboot, download iTunes, then reinstall, either using an account with administrative rights, or right-clicking the downloaded installer and selecting Run as Administrator.
The uninstall and reinstall process will preserve your iTunes library and settings, but ideally you would back up the library and your other important personal documents and data on a regular basis. See this user tip for a suggested technique.
Please note:
Some users may need to follow all the steps in whichever of the following support documents applies to their system. These include some additional manual file and folder deletions not mentioned above.

When the user press the button Calculate Tax (see attached doc) and click on Tax details then this should be updated automatically. But it does not work it is empty and the user has to update manually.

I recently updated my ipad wifi only to the new ios 6.1.2 and initially I had the auto cover lock option which can be seen in the Generals tab, but then it stoped working!! Before the update, the auto cover lock worked fine. So after trying all the options, I then did a complete reset on the ipad and now its gone all together from the General tab!! I can no longer see the "auto cover lock" option.
The iPad cover lock is for when you use a cover with magnets in it to lock and unlock the iPad when you close the cover or open it. Try running a refrigerator magnet along the sides of the iPad and see if that trips the iPad Cover Lock back into the settings.
That is not the same thing as the iPad Auto Lock setting which allows you to set an allotted time before the iPad goes to sleep.
You can try resetting all settings to see if the Auto Lock feature retinrs to the iPad.
Settings>General>Reset>Reset All Settings. You will have to enter all of your device settings again.... All of the settings in the settings app will have to be re-entered. This can be a little time consuming re-entering all of the device settings again.
