User Profile Service - Permission for Service User to Read All (also "only me fields")

Hey there,
we have a webapplication that needs to read all info from a user profile. Even if it is set to "only me".
I want to set the least privileges needed. So set the user to "Manage Profiles" in the CA seems to be wrong.
How can i achieve that?
Best regards
Stephan

You could run that piece of code in the vacation app using "runwithelevatedprivileges". That may also resolve it, as it will be running under the context of the App Pool account (which you could grant the appropriate rights on the UPSA).

  • Illustrator vs Photoshop RGBs / What color profile to use for an online publication that is also to be printed?

Hi, I have been correcting the colors of a franchise company logo that is to be used for print, as well as online media.
I created EPS files in Illustrator using Pantone colors, and I will be providing these for professional printing (signs, brochures, business cards, etc.)
I have also converted these files to TIFF files through Illustrator, using CMYK, and will be providing these for in-house/desktop printing by business owners.
I have also converted these files to RGB for online usage.
When opening up the RGB files into Photoshop in order to work them into a publication template, I noticed the colors (which seem pretty true to the Pantone values I remember in Illustrator) were picking up as different RGB values from the ones provided to me from the marketing team. (The PMS color I was given was 280C, my file picks up as RGB 0-72-144 in Photoshop, and the RGB they gave me is 0.43.127) I understand that assigned Pantone colors can appear different than the RGB conversions when viewed on screen together (seeing that Pantones are printed, RGBs are on screen...I'm assuming the Pantone colors, when printed, should appear close to the RGB on screen versions...right?) Anyway, I changed my original RGB values (0-72-144) that were created from the original Illustrator values to the ones provided by the marketing team (0.43.127) just to play it safe.
Firstly, please let me know that all of this is correct, and that I am provided the owners with the correct types of files and color profiles dependent on the jobs.
Secondly, I am also to produce a publication using the logo that will be distributed online (RGB), but needs to also be able to be printed, in the case that the business owners would like to distribute it via hard copy as well (CMYK/Pantone)... need I provide them two variations of the same document (one for online, one for print), or is there a color profile that can be appropriate for both uses?
Forgive me, as I only know the basics of these color profiles, and don't quite yet understand the way they work together.
    Thanks!

  • Running multiple User Profile Service Applications -- recommendations, pitfalls, etc.

I have a farm with one WFE, one APP, and one SQL server. The User Profile Service runs on both WFE and APP, the User Profile Sync Service is on the APP server. There is a single User Profile service application running that pulls from 4 different AD
import sources: two in the US, one in London, and one in Mexico.
There is a nightly incremental synch.
There is an issue where the London users need the synch to occur hourly.
There are some complexities with one of the US sources in that would make it difficult to run the current User Profile service hourly, plus there is a performance concern.
I'm interested in possibly creating a second User Profile Service Application that reads only from London and runs hourly.
Beyond creating the User Profile service and scheduling hourly, what should I be concerned about?
Will I need to (re)create new Audiences based on those from the original User Profile Service App? Run them immediately after User Profiles? Will there be an interruption in access during that gap?
    Recreate custom User Properties?
    Recreate any Forefront modifications?
    New Profile/Sync/Social DBs?
    etc?
    Thanks,
    Scott

    Hi Scott,
According to your description, my understanding is that you want to use multiple user profile service application.
Yes, you can do it. Only one user profile application can be configured to work with the Profile Synchronization Instance. If you want more UPS instance, you need to start UPS on different server.

  • Authentication prompt issue when opening an office file in a document library with read permission for domain users

An user as part of the domain users tries to open an office file from a document library but he got an authentication prompt asking him to authenticate. Domain users has only access to this library and not to the whole site. This uses to work in SharePoint
2007 without any problem but not in SharePoint 2013, we didn't have a workflow on SP2007.
Domain users has read access to only this document library in the site, but he shouldn't get an authentication prompt since he is part of the domain users and he is not trying to modify the document, he can open the document but gets two prompts, he can't
also see the list using explorer view since nothings appears using the explorer view.
Now, when opening the file, we can see..Updating Workflow Status, but we don't have any workflow working on this site or library, event any feature related to workflow.
If we go to the event viewer in the server, we find this information,
I also checked this thread but I couldn't find this scenario.
    https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/sharepoint/en-US/91bc770b-bb70-4885-a4ad-a243edb88753/event-id-8026-workflow-soap-getworkflowdataforitem-failed-doc-library-no-workflow?forum=sharepointgeneralprevious
I also created another list with the same permissions and using other office files but got the same behavior.
Now, we have migrated this site from SP2007 to SP2013.
    Any ideas?

OK, I am going to throw out a lot of ideas here so hopefully they get you closer to a diagnosis. Hang on :)
Does it happen to work for some users but not others? If so, try logging in on the "good" computer with the "bad" username. This will tell you if the problem is related to the end-user's system. Also, once the user downloads a document
successfully can they open and work on it in Word? Also, does the document library have any custom content types associated with it or does it just use 'Document'?
I notice that there are other folks on the web that have run into this same problem and the similarity seems to be that they are either on SharePoint 2007 or have upgraded from 2007. Did this doc library start out as a 2007 library?
What you might want to do is this: Make a site collection from scratch in 2013 (or find one that you know was created in 2013). Choose team site (or whatever you want) for the root web and set up the security the same way you have it on the malfunctioning
library. Now, use windows explorer to copy and paste some of the documents to the new location. Be sure you recreate any needed content types. Now test it from the troubled user's computer.
I'm thinking there may be something that is different about the library since it was migrated through various versions and updates since 2007. I've sometimes found that there can be problems (especially with user profiles but that's a different story) with
things that go through this evolution.

  • How to restrict user to must enter value in compulsory fields

    Greetings !
I had a personal information form. I want to restrict user to enter values in all fields e.g Compulsory fields (Username, D.O.B etc)
how i restrict user to must enter value in Compulsory fields

I created an example on apex.oracle.com
    http://apex.oracle.com/pls/apex/f?p=18686:1:0:::::
like you see a red staric placed on ID it means it is complusory to enter because it is a primary key, i want this on every field or to restrict user to enter all data , if any field left blank it will give error "to Fill respective field ", but not on creation but on left blank (if user type ID e.g 12 and skip ename field and go on Job field it gives error to fill Ename first)

  • Windows 7 very slow logon, Waiting for the User Profile Service, winlogon event 6006

    Hello,
Every so often one of our Windows 7 clients which is not normally having any delay at logon will take a very long time to login. This may be 10 or 20 minutes or up to an hour in some cases.
Typically the event log will contain entries like
The winlogon notification subscriber <Profiles> took 572 second(s) to handle the notification event (Logon).
There is no further information available from Event Log Online Help, nor any additional detail as to why the logon event was so slow. During the delay the user will just see "Waiting for the User Profile Service" on their screen.
We first started seeing this problem with Windows Vista and if anything the situation has not improved since then. It has never happened with any of our Windows XP users.
We are currently planning a migration of computers to Windows 7 but stuff like this which has not been resolved in Windows over a 2 year period will stall that migration. The least improvement is to increase the event notification to give a lot more
information on why the user profile processing has stalled.

    Hi,
When did the issue begin to occur? Did it occur after installing certain application or applying certain policy?
To troubleshoot the issue, please perform the following step.
    1. Restart the machine in Safe Mode with Networking to check whether the system can login quicker.
    2. Type “gpedit.msc” in Search box and press Enter. Navigate to the following location:
    Computer Configuration->Administrative Templates->System->Logon
Please double click “Always wait for the network at computer startup and logon” policy and disable it.
    3. Perform a
Clean Boot to check the result.
    Thanks,
    Novak

  • User Profile Service failed the sign-in. User profile cannot be loaded - For any new accounts created

I'm sharing this issue we encountered earlier today so that others might benefit from what we discovered.
We're using Win8.1 Ent and on two of the systems, any accounts created encounter the following message upon attempted login (i.e. login fails):
"User Profile Service failed the sign-in. User profile cannot be loaded"
    The event viewer shows this:
    Windows cannot copy file
    \\?\C:\Users\Default\AppData\Local\Microsoft\VSCommon\12.0\SQM\sqmdata-7696-039-00000.sqm to location
\\?\C:\Users\TEMP\AppData\Local\Microsoft\VSCommon\12.0\SQM\sqmdata-7696-039-00000.sqm. This error may be caused by network problems or insufficient security rights.
    DETAIL - Access is denied.
    Solution which worked for us
In our instance either setting the appropriate permissions on the affected file, or deleting the file resolved it.

I had a similar problem, and raised a Premier case, which is mentioned here:
    http://blogs.msdn.com/b/asiatech/archive/2014/01/30/new-user-gets-event-1509-after-deploying-ie9-10-11-packaged-by-ieak.aspx
It seems this issue with SQM/CEIP creating a poorly ACE'd SQM file has been around for a very long time, with many causes being the installation of Internet Explorer (as was my case, of deploy IE10 to Win7), but other reasons also occur (as in your case
    with VS).
It seems to me that this is a defect in the SQM/CEIP component, but the issue does not consistently occur is all scenarios, which appears to be an excuse to leave the defect uncorrected, so we have to implement ugly workarounds.. :(

  • "Please Wait For The User Profile Service" message when logging on to TS 2008

I have a Windows 2008 AD Domain with 2 Windows 2008 Terminal Servers.  Both are configured identically.  I have the TS Roaming profiles stored on a 3rd server and a GPO pointing all users to the roaming profiles.  On one of the servers everything works perfectly.  On the second server the users, after they input their credentials, get the following message "Please Wait For The User Profile Service".  The message can stay there for up to 3 minutes, then they are logged innormall with the correct profile.  This problem does not occur on log off.  Any help would be appreciated

99% of the times I had this problem it was caused by either DNS issues or network bindings.
Are your servers multihomed? In other words: do you have multiple network cards? If so, make sure your "production" card is on top in the network connections -> advanced settings -> adapters and bindings.
You could also enable user env logging (search microsoft how to do that)

  • Some links and social network features not active in user profile service for some users in sharepoint 2013

    Hi everyone,
I installed user profile service and synchronize. When I go to my site by administrator user every things is OK.
But when I login by another user the my site is look like this
Please guide me to resolve this problem.
    Thanks in advance.

Can you please check and share mysite setting details. Check for below:
Create a site collection at the root using the My Site Host template
Assuming you want users’ MySites to be created at
http://mySiteHost/personal/[John_Smith], create a Managed Path for the web app. The path should be personal, and the type should be
    Wildcard Inclusion.
In User Profile Service Application, set My Site Host location to
    http://mySiteHost, and
    Personal Site Location to personal.
Enable Self-Service Site Creation for the web app
Check when the timerjob was mysite last executed. Try to manually run them
Check ULS Log for possible error and share error details with us
If this helped you resolve your issue, please mark it Answered

  • User Profile Service hangs for unknown reason

    Hi,
We have a system where usually around 300+ users are logged in simultaneously. These users are working on +-20 Windows Server 2008 R2 Terminal Servers. These servers are in a cluster. We have a physical load balancer. We have a Windows Server 2008 R2 Connection
Broker. We also have serveral Windows Server 2003 servers, connecting to the same domain controllers, but to a different Farm on the Connection Broker.
Sometimes, and for us it seems like random times, users start complaining they cannot log on to the servers anymore. The server seems to be hanging on the User Profile Service. Users get the message "Please wait for the User Profile Service". This message
will stay untill you give the server a hard reset (power off - power on). If we connect to the service from another computer in the domain, we can see which services are started. We can't see any problems, everything seems to be working fine. We just can't
log on to the server anymore, also not as console. This happens on all our 2008 servers in the farm. If it happens, it is usually to happen on more than 1 server (last week on 7 servers simultaneously). You can imagine how our customers react to this. Users
who are allready logged in to the servers on which the problems occur do not notice anything, untill they try to log out. Then they also get the message. If we shutdown this machine (some work on VMware, some are physical servers) the hard way (power off /
power on) the server can work good for several weeks. Then, out of the blue, the problem might occur again.
We have tried many hotfixes and Windows Updates, we have searched in the DNS system, and disabled the second NIC, but the problem still occurs. We do have mandatory profiles, which are being loaded by the software "Flex Profiles".
I hope somebody here has some good ideas.
    Thanks in advantage,
    Roy

    Hi Chris,
First of all, thanks for your reaction. The problem in your link describes almost the same environment as we have. Except that in our case, whenever the "Please wait for the user profile" turns up, nobody is able to log on to that server anymore until reboot.
In their case, they will be logged on after 60 - 90 seconds. We can't really find an event in the event viewer which seems to be hanging around with the problem.

  • Workflow Manager & User Profile Service Application for Extranet Web application

    Hi,
Recently i have setup HA WF Manager farm and associated it with Intranet web application (on-prem). Now i want to use the same farm for our extranet environment (on-prem) but extranet environment is not associated with UPA. Since user profile application
is not available for extranet environment so workflow does not work.
Now if I try to use existing UPA or create a new UPA for extranet environment, then i am exposing users data to all partner and collaborators. But for workflows to work it is necessary that users profile should be there in profile database.
Is there any way that I can run workflows in extranet environment without exposing user profile data to partners/collaborators? Thanks.
    -Prashant

Thanks for the reply Paul, but this does not solve the problem.
Actually in MySite web application external users group is not at all added with any permissions but just to check your suggestion i have given permission to externals group with Deny Read permission. Now UPA is associated to the extranet web application
and when i access user profile data using RESP API using a partner account I can still see the data. For e.g. I am using this URL
    https://extranet.abc.com/_api/SP.UserProfiles.PeopleManager/GetPropertiesFor(accountName=@v)?@v='abc\uname'
When I hit this URL in browser using partner account, it shows the profile data of the account passed in the URL.
MySite web application is https://mysite.abc.com and on this web application external users group is added under policy with Deny Read permissions. Thanks.
    -Prashant

  • Initiall SharePoint Server 2013 setup -- unable to manage new User Profile Service Application

During initial farm setup, creating an initial User Profile Service Application works fine.  However, once it's created, I cannot 'manage' it through the Manage Service Applications page in central
    admin.
I get a generic error (Sorry, something went wrong / unexpected error) with a correlation ID that doesn't seem to match any ULS log entries. (Yes, I merged logs from all machines in the farm.)
A Windows event log entry says:
A failure was reported when trying to invoke a service application: Endpoint Failure
Also frequent errors in ULS logs:  (see below)
    UserProfileApplicationNotAvailableException
User Profile Application      Proxy failed to retrieve partitions from User Profile Application: Micro…
    SPDistributedCache DataCacheException
I did notice that the file 'ProfileService.svc does not exist in SharePoint's web services app at the URL you see in the error. (below)
I also found it interesting that the event log error shows 1 active endpoint and 3 failed endpoints.  I have 2 WFEs and 2 app servers.  But I'm only trying to get the user profile service app running on the application
servers.  I have deleted and recreated this service app several times under various names (deleted/recreated its app pool as well) and wonder if these other failed endpoints could be orphans from previous instances...
Any thoughts on how I might successfully create this service application?  I've already been Binging my head against a wall long enough that I would have been better off reinstalling the entire farm...  I may still
    do that.
FYI, my farm came from a slipstreamed SP1 install package, and received the July CU after several other things were already configured, including the already-failed UP service application.

Thanks for the suggestion.  I performed the service restarts, and then an iisreset an the two web servers, and the application server that does not run the services.  Finally, I ran iisreset on the application server that does run the services.
After performing those steps, I still cannot manage the user profile service application.
ULS log at the time of the attempt contains User Profile Application Proxy errors (in my original post) and am also noticing the following error:

  • Windows Server 2012 Login Issue "The User Profile Service service failed the sign-in. User profile cannot be loaded."

Whenever I try to login to our Exchange Server, I receive the following error:
"The User Profile Service service failed the sign-in. User profile cannot be loaded."
The issue affects more than one user.
    Relevant Info:
    Server Version: 2012 Datacenter
    Exchange Version: 2013
    The Exchange server is virtualized.
    What I've tried:
    1) Remote Desktop from a workstation on the network
    2) Remote Desktop from Virtual Machine Manager
    3) Connect via console from Virtual Machine Manager
    4) Accessing the server via Computer Management and adding my user account to Allow Login via Remote Desktop
    5) Creating a new user account for myself by copying the account of a user who can get in
    6) Rebooting
    I'd appreciate any suggestions.

    Hi Aaron,
I would suggest you to check the event log .
Maybe this issue due to the permission of profile folder , please refer to the following link :

  • User Profile Service failed to logon

I have Windows 7 on my laptop. I went to log on as usual and when I typed in my password and hit enter it would not work and a message appeared saying: User Profile Service failed to log on.
I went to Microsoft support and found an article with suggested solutions for this problem. I followed the first solution, started my computer in safe mode, backed up my registry on a USB, and made changes to file names by renaming them in the registry editor.
After making these changes I restarted my computer and it would let me log on. All my files on my desktop seemed to be there but all of the program I have installed asked me to re-register them which I did not feel like doing at the moment. So I shut down
my laptop and decided to do it later.
When I restarted my laptop I was able to log on but when it loaded my desktop is a blank blue screen and the only items left are the recycling bin and my Itunes. It will not let me access any programs, my documents, my computer, the control panel - nothing.
It says  I do not have permission to access.
When I try to load the backup registry I saved on my USB it says that the backup was unsuccessful and it will not load.
Not really sure what to do at this point, have I lost everything on my computer or is this fixable?
    Thanks.

    Hi Julianne_27_Chambers,
Have you got other administrator accounts in this machine ?
According to your description,it seems that the present user account profile has corrupted .
We can create a new administrator account and then login with it .Then we can refer to the following link to fix the corrupted user profile .

  • "User Profile Service service failed the logon. User profile cannot be loaded."

I just spend a long time fighting this problem and wanted to share how I fixed.
I was seeing this error on a Win7 standalone system (local profiles, not logging into a domain).  I had two profiles on it that worked fine, but if I tried to create a new profile, I would be unable to logon to it and would get the "User Profile Service
    failed the logon" message.
I tried the steps in KB http://support.microsoft.com/kb/947215 but they did not fix the problem.
After looking through the event logs, I found the following 1509 error in the Application log:
    Windows cannot copy file
    \\?\C:\Users\Default\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Temporary Internet Files\SQM\iesqmdata_setup0.sqm to location
\\?\C:\Users\TEMP\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Temporary Internet Files\SQM\iesqmdata_setup0.sqm. This error may be caused by network problems or insufficient security rights.
     DETAIL - Access is denied.
After binging iesqmdata_setup0.sqm I ran across this article:
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/w7itprogeneral/thread/e87aafae-c3aa-48df-b188-0ba161fcb9c7
    The suggestion there:
"I suggest you check the Advanced Security Settings for the C:\Users\Default folder. Ensure you check the box "Replace all child object permission with inheritable permissions from this object"."
Fixed this problem for me.  I am now able to logon with the newly created accounts just fine.
Hopefully this will help others as well!
