User Session Handling - Design Question

Sorry, Wrong Forum
Edited by: soontobeared on May 28, 2009 12:08 PM

Hi,
If I dont maintain a session, how do I handle the cases when the client terminates abruptly?
I would like to know if I can have a servlet layer inbetween the client and the sever for session maintenance.
Thanks

    tell me some Debugging tech. so i can overcome from my problem.....Do you use an IDE? Any IDE ships with a decent debugger where in you can just execute the code step by step, explore the current variable values and check what exactly is happening. For example Eclipse or IntelliJ. If you don´t use an IDE, then just place some System.out.println() or Logger.debug() statements at strategic locations printing the variables of relevance so that you can track in logs what exactly is happening.
    or tell any other way to find is my page is thread safe or not...Just write correct code and narrow the scope of the variables as much as possible. If you for example assigned the user object to a static variable or as a servlet´s instance variable, then exactly the same user object would be used everywhere in the application. That kind of logical things.

  • [SOLVED] Question about systemd-user-session

    Hi!
    I'm trying to setup a systemd --user session (using user-session-units and xorg-launch-helper from aur).
    I have a couple of questions; this is my .xinitrc now:
    #!/bin/bash
    export BROWSER=chromium
    if [ -d /etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc.d ]; then
    for f in /etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc.d/*; do
    [ -x "$f" ] && . "$f"
    done
    unset f
    fi
    spacefm --desktop &
    compton -cGCf -m 0.9 -i 0.8 -D 5 --shadow-exclude 'g:e:Conky' &
    volumeicon &
    /home/federico/Script/touchpadoff_onboot.sh &
    #connman-ui-gtk &
    /home/federico/Script/calised-script &
    dimdaemon &
    tint2 -c .config/tint2/dragonauta.tint2rc &
    conky -p 5 -c Script/conky.conf &
    exec openbox
    1) is "if" statement required when using systemd-user-session? And if yes, how can I reproduce it?
    2) "conky -p 5 " will wait 5 seconds doing nothing. Will this mean that other .service will wait for it to finish? (i guess no, since they're executed in parallel).
    3) how can I export "chromium" as my default browser?
    Thank you very much!

    I followed everything in that wiki, and in KaiSforza and sofar github page.
    I finally managed to get my old method (autologin to vt and autostart x) to work together with systemd --user: i put in .xinitrc "systemd --user" and deleted everything else.
    So, my .config/systemd/user/ works. The problem is in the [email protected], i guess. I configured it like wiki says, mind to post here your /etc/systemd/system/[email protected]?

  • Problem in implements ADF Faces: Detecting and handling user session expiry

    Hello everybody
    I´m trying to implement a method to handle user session expiry as explained by frank nimphius in his blog.
    http://thepeninsulasedge.com/frank_nimphius/2007/08/22/adf-faces-detecting-and-handling-user-session-expiry/
    I have implemented the class bellow and add the filters in web.xml. However when I add the JavaServer Faces Servlet to sign the filter, my hole application get nuts. I try to publish the applicatoin in the OAS and it seems that it already starts expired.
    Someone konw what I´m doing wrong?
    I use the filter
    <filter>
    <filter-name>ApplicationSessionExpiryFilter</filter-name>
    <filter-class>adf.sample.ApplicationSessionExpiryFilter</filter-class>
    <init-param>
    <param-name>SessionTimeoutRedirect</param-name>
    <param-value>SessionExpired.jspx</param-value>
    </init-param>
    </filter>
    then I add
    XML:
    <filter-mapping>
    <filter-name>ApplicationSessionExpiryFilter</filter-name>
    <servlet-name>Faces Servlet</servlet-name>
    </filter-mapping>
    package adf.sample;
    import java.io.IOException;
    import javax.servlet.Filter;
    import javax.servlet.FilterChain;
    import javax.servlet.FilterConfig;
    import javax.servlet.ServletException;
    import javax.servlet.ServletRequest;
    import javax.servlet.ServletResponse;
    import javax.servlet.http.HttpServletRequest;
    import javax.servlet.http.HttpServletResponse;
    this is the class
    public class ApplicationSessionExpiryFilter implements Filter {
    private FilterConfig _filterConfig = null;
    public void init(FilterConfig filterConfig) throws ServletException {
    _filterConfig = filterConfig;
    public void destroy() {
    _filterConfig = null;
    public void doFilter(ServletRequest request, ServletResponse response,
    FilterChain chain) throws IOException, ServletException {
    String requestedSession = ((HttpServletRequest)request).getRequestedSessionId();
    String currentWebSession = ((HttpServletRequest)request).getSession().getId();
    boolean sessionOk = currentWebSession.equalsIgnoreCase(requestedSession);
    // if the requested session is null then this is the first application
    // request and "false" is acceptable
    if (!sessionOk && requestedSession != null){
    // the session has expired or renewed. Redirect request
    ((HttpServletResponse) response).sendRedirect(_filterConfig.getInitParameter("SessionTimeoutRedirect"));
    else{
    chain.doFilter(request, response);
    I'm really having trouble controlling user sessions. if someone know where I can get materials to learn how to implements session in Jdev ADF + BC, I´m very grateful.
    Thank you Marnie

    The class works fine.. the issue is when I add the this code into web.xml

  • Handling user session expiry

    I am trying to implements Frank's way of detecting session expiry.(http://thepeninsulasedge.com/frank_nimphius/2007/08/22/adf-faces-detecting-and-handling-user-session-expiry/)
    It looks so simple and works perfectly well on test application in OC4J servers...
    But it doesnt work on my JBoss.
    Basicaly you take requestSession and currentWebSession in filter and compare them like this:
    String requestedSession = ((HttpServletRequest)request).getRequestedSessionId();
    String currentWebSession = ((HttpServletRequest)request).getSession().getId();
    If session id's are not equal, then it is expired session...But on my JBoss I always get equal session ids and never get requestedSession null (you should get null on initial session)!!! I am realy stuck with this
    I try checking if requested session is valid with isRequestedSessionIdValid() and I always get valid on my JBoss... on OC4J it works properly as well...
    Maybe this has something to do with my secure connection on JBoss?
    Can someone please give me something to hold to!?

  • Data Lista Handler Design Pattern and paging queries

    I'm using Toplink in an MVC (Regular Beans, JSP and Struts) application. I'm not using ADF. At least not until i make up my mind on the features-portability tradeoff.
    Anyway, my application will have to use queries to show the data to the user. This can easily be accomplished by putting the search parameters on my jsp and using ReadAllQuery to compose my query.
    My problem is that the result can return a large amount of records and show all this records at once on the jsp might take a time the user won't be willing to wait. That's when paging the results will come handy.
    In another application of mine i use paging manipulating the rownum of the query, but in that case, i had control of the whole sql statement. As this is the first time i'm working with Toplink, i'm feeling that can't be done.
    There's the Data List Handler design pattern too, but that one also manipulates the sql statement.
    I'm wondering now whether paging can be accomplished using Toplink..? Will i have to use ADF...? This kind of stuff.
    Thanks a lot to all.
    - Eduardo

    Eduardo,
    What you need to do is use Cursors in TopLink.Scrollable cursors enable you to scroll through a result set from the database without reading the whole result set in a single database read. The ScrollableCursor class implements the Java ListIterator interface to allow for direct and relative access within the stream. Scrollable cursors also enable you to scroll forward and backward through the stream.
    Here is an example:
    ReadAllQuery query = new ReadAllQuery();
    query.setReferenceClass(Employee.class);
    query.useScrollableCursor();
    ScrollableCursor cursor = (ScrollableCursor) session.executeQuery(query);
    while (cursor.hasNext()) {
    System.out.println(cursor.next().toString());
    cursor.close();
    I hope this answers your question.

  • Routing a Portal user to a designated ABAP instance

    Hi experts,
    my concern is about performance testing in a portal landscape which is connected to several ABAP systems and a Producer Portal.
    Because functional and performance testing will temporarily overlap, we consider to route our Mercury test users to a designated ABAP/Producer Portal instance in order to separate the load from funtional testing.
    My question:
    How can I ensure that the mercury test users get linked to the second ABAP instance/Producer Portal instance?
    First ideas:
    - Does it help to assign the test users to a specific user group which could be evaluated during SSO?
    - Use of ABAP Logon groups without changing the System Object in the Portal;
    - Taking advantage of the Load Balancer configuration.
    Many thanks in advance and best regards,
    Martin

    The nice thing about loadrunner and other such products is also a headache... and that is handling the headers correctly. In the HTTP header you can set the load balance and session cookies to force the session to a particular place via a web dispatcher.
    You need also to be aware RFC's from the Portal to the ABAP and these should use a logon group that you can force to the instance you desire.
    It is also possible if going via a web dispatcher to hard code the web dispatcher to only have a single system.
    In essence there are a few ways

  • Re: User Session using ServletSession and Stateful EJB in Cluster

              Sorry , I didn't use WLS 6.0, we use wls 5.1 in production.
              But in Wls 6.0, in some situations , the state of the stateful session bean can be lost. So it's not so reliable. You have to deal with it in the client code. Instead, servlet is a reliable solution.
              In order to test under wls6.0, you can store the handle of the EJBObject in the HttpSession, not in jndi, cos if the instance fails, all its objects will be removed by remaining instances from jndi. In another instance, you get the handle, and try to get the EJBObject.
              In wls5.1, some information like the server url must be embeded inside the handle. But in wls6.0, I don't know how they deal with it.
              I am looking forward to your results

  • To EJB or Not to EJB (Design Question)

    Hello,
    New to EJB i am devlepoing a simple test App. Your suggestions will be very valuable.
    Test App..
    - Authenticate process
    - Search for Orders
    Our compnay policy forces that We must validate the sessionID (created internally) on every page call. Expected Client maybe Web srvices/servlet/JSP. Multiple users and heavy traffic expected.
    My Design...
    - Make Stateless Session EJBs for Authentication
    - Make Stateless Session EJBs for Orders search. Number of functions will be exposed for searching.
    Questions
    - Does it make sense to wrap all the SQL select calls in SESSION EJB? or should i call from JSP directly
    - IS SEESION EJB for authentication is the right choice
    - which is the best place for using Entity EJBs
    Regards
    H

    A good app. design would be as follows:
    Use three "Application Layers"
    1. PRESENTATION LAYER: this layer includes
    -JSP (only for view purposes!!!)
    -FrontController (Pattern usally implemented as Servlet for handling authentication/authorisation AND session handling!!!!!!)
    -ServiceDispatcher (Pattern for dispatching ;-))
    -BusinessDelegate (for encapsulation from the BUSINESS LAYER)
    2. BUSINESS LAYER: this layer includes
    -SessionFacade (usally Stateless Session Beans for your needs for example order!!!)
    3. PERSISTENCE LAYER: this layer includes
    -EntityBeans (CMP or BMP you must decide wich is better for your needs....I prefer BMP, it is more coding, but you are not dependent on app. server provider....CMP runs faster!!!!)
    -DataAccessObject (DAO--> here are your sql-statements and db-connections)
    For all Patterns here look at this side for more information
    http://java.sun.com/blueprints/corej2eepatterns/Patterns/
    TIP: Use the Session API for your session handling!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Design question: Scheduling a Variable-timeslot Resource

    I originally posted this in general java programming, because this seemed like a more high-level design descussion. But now I see some class design questions. Please excuse me if this thread does not belong here (this is my first time using the forum, save answering a couple questions).
    Forum,
    I am having trouble determining a data structure and applicable algorithm (actually, even more general than the data structure -- the general design to use) for holding a modifiable (but more heavily read/queried than updated), variable-timeslot schedule for a given resource. Here's the situation:
    Let's, for explanation purposes, say we're scheduling a school. The school has many resources. A resource is anything that can be reserved for a given event: classroom, gym, basketball, teacher, janitor, etc.
    Ok, so maybe the school deal isn't the best example. Let's assume, for the sake of explanation, that classes can be any amount of time in length: 50 minutes, 127 minutes, 4 hours, 3 seconds, etc.
    Now, the school has a base operation schedule, e.g. they're open from 8am to 5pm MTWRF and 10am to 2pm on saturday and sunday. Events in the school can only occur during these times, obviously.
    Then, each resource has its own base operation schedule, e.g. the gym is open from noon to 5pm MTWRF and noon to 2pm on sat. and sun. The default base operation schedule for any resource is the school which "owns" the resource.
    But then there are exceptions to the base operation schedule. The school (and therefore all its resources) are closed on holidays. The gym is closed on the third friday of every month for maintenance, or something like that. There are also exceptions to the available schedule due to reservations. I've implemented reservations as exceptions with a different status code to simplify things a little bit: because the basic idea is that an exception is either an addition to or removal from the scheduleable times of that resource. Each exception (reservation, closed for maintenance, etc) can be an (effectively) unrestricted amount of time.
    Ok, enough set up. Somehow I need to be able to "flatten" all this information into a schedule that I can display to the user, query against, and update.
    The issue is complicated more by recurring events, but I think I have that handled already and can make a recurring event be transparent from the application point of view. I just need to figure out how to represent this.
    This is my current idea, and I don't like it at all:
    A TimeSlot object, holding a beginning date and ending date. A data structure that holds list of TimeSlot objects in order by date. I'd probably also hold an index of some sort that maps some constant span of time to a general area in the data structure where times around there can be found, so I avoid O(n) time searching for a given time to find whether or not it is open.
    I don't like this idea, because it requires me to call getBeginningDate() and getEndDate() for every single time slot I search.
    Anyone have any ideas?

    If I am correct, your requirement is to display a schedule, showing the occupancy of a resource (open/closed/used/free and other kind of information) on a time line.
    I do not say that your design is incorrect. What I state below is strictly my views and should be treated that way.
    I would not go by time-slot, instead, I would go by resource, for instance the gym, the class rooms (identified accordingly), the swimming pool etc. are all resources. Therefore (for the requirements you have specified), I would create a class, lets say "Resource" to represent all the resources. I would recommend two attributes at this stage ("name" & "identifier").
    The primary attribute of interest in this case would be a date (starting at 00:00hrs and ending at 24:00hrs.), a span of 24hrs broken to the smallest unit of a minute (seconds really are not very practical here).
    I would next encapsulate the availability factor, which represents the concept of availability in a class, for instance "AvailabilityStatus". The recommended attributes would be "date" and "status".
    You have mentioned different status, for instance, available, booked, closed, under-maintainance etc. Each of these is a category. Let us say, numbered from 0 to n (where n<128).
    The "date" attribute could be a java.util.Date object, representing a date. The "status", is byte array of 1440 elements (one element for each minute of the day). Each element of the byte array is populated by the number designation of the status (i.e, 0,1,2...n etc.), where the numbers represent the status of the minute.
    The "Resource" class would carry an attribute of "resourceStatus", an ordered vector of "ResourceStatus" objects.
    The object (all the objects) could be populated manually at any time, or the entire process could be automated (that is a separate area).
    The problem of representation is over. You could add any number of resources as well as any number of status categories.
    This is a simple solution, I do not address the issues of querying this information and rendering the actual schedule, which I believe is straight forward enough.
    It is recognized that there are scope for optimizations/design rationalization here, however, this is a simple and effective enough solution.

  • Multiple user sessions for ADF application

    Hi All,
    We have a ADF application with 3-4 pages starting with a login screen.
    Assume we have two users, user1 and user2. In same system but different browser windows, when both users are logging in, only user2 's session is active. Though user1 logged in first and is able to perform transactions, the moment user2 logs in, user1's session is being over-written by user2 (user1's window now displays user2's information). I have observed the URL of user1 window which now changes to user2's URL (_adf.ctrl-state parameter of user2 is displayed in user1 browser)
    How do we overcome this?? We have a requirement to be able to open multiple user sessions.
    We are using JDeveloper 11.1.2.3.0 and browsers being used are IE 8, IE9 and chrome.
    Thanks,
    Deepti

    Hi,
    Continuation to my above question
    I am using these two statements in my code..
    ExternalContext ectx = FacesContext.getCurrentInstance().getExternalContext();
    HttpSession httpSession = (HttpSession)ectx.getSession(true);
    On any event in Window1, I gues it is getting the context and session of window2(this being the latest)..
    Shouldnt it return the context and session of the current window instead of the latest window???
    This problem is well explained here
    internet explorer 8 - How to avoid session sharing provided by IE8 programmatically in Java EE application? - Stack Over…
    I want to know.. what is the best way to handle this in ADF... We are using managed beans with request scope and using HttpSession to store few values like user Id.

  • ERP2004: ESS JCO session handling in Web Dynpro apps?

    Hello,
    we run ESS/MSS Web Dynpro scenarios, running on WAS 6.40, SP12 in
    Enterprise Portal EP6 SP2 Patch 32. Our go live will be with > 1000 ESS users.
    1. When will the sessions in R/3 backend system be terminated by the
    Web Dynpro Application?
    How is the session handling in FPM (Floor Plan Manager) implemented?
    2. Are there any recommendations regarding the JCO connection settings
    in Web Dynpro Content Administrator (Maximum Pool Size, Maximum Connections,
    Connection Timeout, Maximum Wait Time) to reduce / optimize the load for the
    backend system? I found a documentation in SDN but it is not
    specific for ESS / MSS based on Web Dynpro.
    Background of questions above: The customer is worry about the load on
    SAP R/3 backend side: too much current users in the R/3 backend system,
    possibly bad performance etc. because the JCO sessions are open a long time.
    Are there any experiences with customers running productive ESS / MSS scenarios
    based on Web Dynpro?
    Thanks & Best regards,
    Daniel

    Hi,
    1. For best practices on JCO settings follow the tutorial below and do it accordingly for your no of users. YOu might have to do some trial and error procedure.

    2. For standards, security settings, cache management etc, SAP will give a TODO list after a remote audit of your project.

  • Schedule Task - Windows 2008 R2 - User Session

    I am migratiing the schedule task from windows 2003 to windows 2008 and find some of behaviour change on handling user session by Task Scheduler.
    I have a simple batch to call "net use" command to map a network drive for copying file to remote server. And I have scheduled 3 similar tasks and run as same user (e.g. testuser)
    In windows 2003 enviornment, the mapped network drive resource will not be accessed by another schedule task. In windows 2008 R2, howerver, the network drive mapped in one of schedule task can be reached by another task. Does anyone have
    idea on this behaviour change?

    can list the network drive mapped by schedule task 1. The question is if there are any changes between windows 2003 and 2008, hope it can clarify.
