User template stoarage location

Create new, from template, user, browse to location select VI. VIi is now added to the list, however, the wrong VI has been selected. There is no delete or remove function available. This implies that the lis tof user template is stored at some location where the contents of this file are pointers to the location of the user template. I have been unable to locate this file so that I can modify it to remove the incorrect VI from the list. What is the location of this file so that it can be modified? We have looked all over the drive for it to no avail, nor has the documentation revealed antthing other than how to add to the list which has obviously been done and works well, except when you piuk the wrong one. The attached PDF shows the file we want removed from the list.

The quick and dirty way to get rid of it is to go into the labview.ini file (next door to the LV executable) and get rid of it from there.  The two entries are NewDlgRecentTemplates.pathList and perhaps NewDlgLastSelected (if you selected the unwanted one last time).

  • Location of User Template - English.lproj for AD Plugin

When OSX creates accounts on a local machine, it pulls the default set of account folders (/Library, /Pictures, /Music, etc) from /System/Library/User Template/English.lproj/... This is an excellent way to pre-configure new user accounts with specific prefs, etc.
When setting up the AD plugin to authenticate from an AD server, one checks the "Use UNC path from Active Directory to derive network home location" button to have the users' home folder mounted as a sharepoint from whatever is specified in the AD for the user. This works as expected for both WIN and OSX users.
    BUT
New users' home folders (empty) are populated with a /Library folder which does not come from /System/Library/User Template/English.lproj/...
Can anybody point me to 'real' location of these template files?

  • How can I set the workgroup templates file location in Office 2013 to point at a folder stored on Sharepoint (2010/2013)?

    Hi All,
Been doing quite a bit of research on this but drawn nothing but blanks or alternative suggestions, none of which are viable.
So the outline of the issue:
Deploying Office 2013 suite to organisation and wanting to have custom templates available for users to choose from, but want those templates to be centrally stored and managed on a SharePoint site.
In Word 2013, for example, when you create a new document, you are presented with a page to choose from 'Featured' templates (or blank document)
So, if you wanted to have custom corporate templates, you could modify the file location for work group templates, thus creating a Custom Office Templates folder locally on your PC.
Great. This means when you select 'New' in Word 2013 you can pick from the 'Featured' templates, or the 'Personal' templates area.
However, I have a collection of test corporate templates (for Word, Excel, PowerPoint etc). These are stored on a SharePoint site internally.
If I try to modify the work group templates location in Word 2013 to point towards my SharePoint site (or any HTTP address for that matter) it won't work.
I know that I could point it towards a Network Share location instead, but I don't want to do that.
Is there any way of getting it to point towards a SharePoint site, any way of modifying it? Or perhaps an even better solution that I could use?
Any help, thoughts or ideas would be massively appreciated! And forgive me if any of my logic is off, but it does seem like this should be a straight forward thing to do given that Office and SharePoint are both developed by Microsoft and you
would like to think they would inherently have better links!
NOTE: Going to Office 365 is also not an option either!
Eagerly awaiting an answer from someone incredibly clever!

    Hi Tony,
Thanks for your response but this is not what I was looking for.
Those articles relate to setting a default template in a SharePoint document or form library.
I will try to be more concise.
    What I want is:
    (1) For users to be able to load MS Word 2013 on their laptops/desktops (connected to corporate Wireless/LAN)
    (2) Once they have opened MS Word 2013, I want them to be able to choose a template from the welcome screen. (There are MS Word Defaults like 'Blank Document' or 'Cover Letter' etc)
I want to add a second tab which is called 'Personal' or 'Corporate'.
    (3) MS Word 2013 allows you to create custom WORD templates and save them locally on your machine (either in the default location for templates, or a user-specified custom location (e.g. My Documents, Desktop etc).
    (4) In advanced settings, there is an option to modify file locations. This is where you can point MS Word 2013 towards the folder (locally) that contains the personal templates that you have designed which you want to use.
    (5) QUESTION: Is there a way to have lots of corporate WORD templates (perhaps one for Marketing, Sales, Procurement, Project etc) - Basically LOTS of different templates all stored in one location on SHAREPOINT, or in a SharePoint document
library. THEN... once those templates (documents) are stored on SharePoint,
IS THERE A WAY to go back into the advanced settings within MS WORD 2013 and modify the file location for templates so that it points towards the SharePoint document library?
I want all the templates to open in MS Word 2013, not within a browser, and I don't want users to have to go to SharePoint to find a template, I want it to be integrated into their local MS Word 2013 so they can choose a corporate template the moment they
    load up MS Word 2013.
When I have tried to modify the custom file location for templates, I can only set it to an address locally on my machine, or a network address (mapped network drive).
However, I do not want the templates to be stored on a shared network folder, I want them to be in a SharePoint Document Library.
The issue I have found is that I cannot enter a SharePoint Library URL as my file location, nor can I enter any HTTP address.
IS THERE A WAY AROUND THIS?

  • New account not picking up template from "User Template" folder.

With past OS'es I've successfully managed to create a new "Staff" account on my main staff image-maker Mac, drag and copy all of that account's folders into: System>Library>User Template>English.lproj
This is very helpful when a staff member leaves, I can simply create a new account, and the Mac would/should pick up all the settings and items found within the English.lproj folder in order to complete the creation of a new "Staff" account.
This is not working for me in Snow Leopard for some reason. I'm assuming it's a rights issue on either the User Template folder or the English.lproj folder...or both.
Problem: The original "Staff" account and all new "Staff" accounts pick up a generic set of folders for that account, even though my self-created account folders are still located in the English.lproj folder mentioned above.
Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated, Gramps.

Can you share which permissions you ended up looking at? I'm having the same issue. I'm doing exactly what I've always done but for some reason 10.6 is giving me grief.

  • Leopard Default User Template

    Hi,
I used to be able to create a customised default user template in Tiger by copying my customised account to the /System/Library/User\ Template/English.lproj folder.
In leopard however new accounts are not getting the customised settings.
    My method is as follows:
    Create temp account
Login to temp account and customise all my settings such as desktop image, icons, finder preferences, dock, program preferences, printers, etc.
before logging out I delete the login keychain, references and files. Clear out the ~/Library/Caches folder.
logout and into and admin account.
    Run terminal
su - to enable root user
copy the current default template to a backup area using..
    cp -R /System/Library/User\ Template/English.lproj/* /backup are path
    Then clear it out
    rm -R /System/Library/User\ Template/English.lproj/*
Then copy the new one in
    cp -R /Users/Temp/* /System/Library/User\ Template/English.lproj
All the files and folders copy over but when I login with a new account none of the customised settings are used.
Any ideas on how to get this working?

Situation I can authenticate network users to LDAP on our Novell server. Our Novell server does not have mappings for Apple computers though so it is just basic authentication. I was able to script mapping of the appropriate volumes as a start up item in the dock because some of our servers can connect as AFP servers.
The problem is after they authenticate through LDAP at the login screen they all get dumped into the root users profile and they have root user powers. Even after I disabled the root user.
I wanted them to use the custom default profile I made. I created a temp user called student customized it copied its profile to the default user profile location. With the instructions you posted above. If I create a new user in account preferences it uses that custom profile fine BUT network users always login as the / a root user.
I could possibly use the root user because we want to lock down the harddrive with deepfreeze. BUT the Novell iPrint program required for users to print does not work at all in this crazy Fake Root user environment.
What am I missing to get my Mac to use my custom profile.

  • User template and Novell ActiveSync provisioning

Here is what my Novell tree looks like. A user template exists at the Location level and also at the business unit level. If there's a user template exists at the business unit level, then it will take precedent over the user template at the Location level. When I provision a user, I need to pick a user template.
    Continent
    |______Location
    ______User Template (UT)
    |______Business Unit
    _______User Template (UT)
    1) How do I detect if there's a user template exists at a given branch?
    2) I can't put a user template on the resource parameters page since it could exists at different places. How do I dynamically assign a user template to a user in the form during ActiveSync provisioning?
    Thanks

Has anyone assign a user template dynamically in a custom form before? I tried to map to the objectclass attribute in the resource schema but I got the below error during the provisioning process of a new user
    Error: NWDSReadAttrDef: 0xFFFFFDA5 (-603): ERR_NO_SUCH_ATTRIBUTE
Could not get syntax for attribute 'objectClass'. The attribute name may not be correct.
    Any suggestions?

Could any one guide me what correction is to be done to incorporate the Storage location in Delivery ?

    Hi,
did you check if there is a storage location determination maintained for the relevant combination of shipping point, plant and
    stor.conditions (table TVKOL)?
Please also check if the storage location determination is activated for the relevant delivery item type in customizing (transaction 0vlp - field "Determine storage location" (V_TVLP-BELGO)).

  • Server 2003: make user template with read-only access for shared folders

I have need to make a type of user (like Administrator, Power User, Mobile User, User, etc.) that has read-only acess to shared folders. So when I make a new user and assign the "read-only user" template I wish to have, the user can open files
in the shared folders on the server, but not edit, save or delete files. Other users can and should remain able to edit, save & delete.
Before I dig in, is this even possible?

You could create a Group called ReadOnly, and set that to have Read on the ACLs of the relevant files or folders.
Make that template user a member of that group.
As long as they are not also a member of another group that gives them higher permissions, this would work.
Otherwise set the ReadOnly group to deny Write, which would over ride any other permission set.
    So,
    Folder A
    ACL:
    ReadOnly : R
    Users: Read/Write
If a user is a member of Users & ReadOnly, they would get read/write to Folder A. As permissions are cumulative.
    If you did the following:
    Folder A
    ACL:
    ReadOnly : R
    ReadOnly: Deny Write
    Users: Read/Write
The users in ReadOnly would be denied write, as it overrides the cumulative permissions.

  • Best practice for Active Directory User Templates regarding Distribution Lists

    Hello All
I am looking to implement Active Directory User templates for each department in the company to make the process of creating user accounts for new employees easier. Currently when a user is created a current user's Active directory account is copied, but
this has led to problems with new employees being added to groups which they should not be a part of.
I have attempted to implement this in the past but ran into an issue regarding Distribution Lists. I would like to set up template users with all group memberships that are needed for the department, including distribution lists. Previously I set this up
but received complaints from users who would send e-mail to distribution lists the template accounts were members of.
When sending an e-mail to the distribution list with a member template user, users received an error because the template account does not have an e-mail address.
What is the best practice regarding template user accounts as it pertains to distribution lists? It seems like I will have to create a mailbox for each template user but I can't help but feel there is a better way to avoid this problem. If a mailbox is created
for each template user, it will prevent the error messages users were receiving, but messages will simply build up in these mailboxes. I could set a rule for each one that deletes messages, but again I feel like there is a better way which I haven't thought
    of.
Has anyone come up with a better method of doing this?
    Thank you

You can just add arbitrary email (not a mailbox) to all your templates and it should solve the problem with errors when sending emails to distribution lists.
If you want to further simplify your user creation process you can have a look at Adaxes (consider it's a third-party app). If you want to use templates, it gives you a slightly better way to do that (http://www.adaxes.com/tutorials_WebInterfaceCustomization_AllowUsingTemplatesForUserCreation.htm)
and it also can automatically perform tasks such as mailbox creation for newly created users (http://www.adaxes.com/tutorials_AutomatingDailyTasks_AutomateExchangeMailboxesCreationForNewUsers.htm).
Alternatively you can abandon templates at all and use customizable condition-based rules to automatically perform all the needed tasks on user creation such as OU allocation, group membership assignment, mailbox creation, home folder creation, etc. based on
the factors you predefine for them.

  • The home folder for user isn't located in the usual place......

    ....or can't be accessed.
Ok so I have trawled the internet and found this to be a known problem, however mine has an extra twist.
Ok, my Mac has a local admin account, lets call it Admin, but the account I use is a network account called PBN.
This network account does not create a home folder path to the server, as such it stores a user folder in Macintosh HD/Users/.
Since buying this mac this has been working fine, no issues, but today when I log onto the machine it gets the error "The home folder for <user> isn't located in the usual place or can't be accessed", whats more is that its created a new folder labelled "~".
    Things I have tried:
    1) repair permissions and repair disk while booted into SL DVD
    2) Right clicking while in System Pref - Users to get to advanced options to check the home drive path (Can't do this because its a network account although the profile is stored locally)
    3) xattr -d com.apple.FinderInfo / on problematic machine
Couldn't do this on the PBN account as it has no permissions (although it is a domain admin)
attr file no found error the admin account
    4) xattr -d com.apple.FinderInfo /volumes/users/ while booted into another machine with broken machine in target disk mode.
So, I am at a major loss and would really preciate any help

The error messages regarding network homes really don't offer any specific clues as to what's wrong. The error message you're getting means one of several things - you've done something wrong setting up your server, you've done something wrong setting up your clients, your server has hardware/software issues, or your network infrastructure is bad. I'm honestly not trying to give you a bad time here, just going over possibilities.
DNS, which you mentioned, is a good place to start. You mentioned that forward/reverse lookups work, and that's a good sign. But just to be sure, have you run sudo changeip -checkhostname
If that reports back that the names match and there is nothing to change, then it's pretty certain that DNS is not the issue. Just to be sure, your clients are using your OS X Server, or whatever server is hosting DNS records for your setup?
The next step is to double-check permissions on the shares where user homes are located. The clients should also have accurate date&time settings.
The logs on the clients and server can also offer clues, however cryptic they may be, be sure to look at them if you haven't.
Also, has this setup worked before, if not, can you describe how you set everything up? I've been stymied by OS X Server myself, so I get where you're at, but the more details you provide, the better chance that Tony, Mr. Hoffman, or other folks here can offer a few more clues/suggestions.

  • Template Datafile Location issue

    Hello,
I previously created a new database template based on an existing database. I later deleted this template i created. Now when i attempt to create a new database with the DBCA using ANY template, i.e. General Purpose etc, i receive a DBCA screen that was not displayed before.
The screen is labelled; Template Datafile Location
    It gives the following message:
The template datafile “{ORACLE_HOME}\assistants\dbca\templates\Data_Warehouse.dfj” specified in the template doesn’t exist. Specify new location of the template datafile:
I looked in the registry and made sure the parameter for {ORACLE_HOME} is the same as the location of the 'assistants' folder.
    The template files currently in the “{ORACLE_HOME}\assistants\dbca\templates\ location are;
    Data_Warehouse.dbc
    General_Purpose.dbc
    New_Database.dbt
    Transaction_Processing.dbc
    Transaction_Processing.dfj
Any useful advice would be appreciated. Thank you

    Hello,
My mistake, the files are *.dfj as you say.
I am using Oracle 9i on a Windows server. I will look into the files on the disks and i will check if any of my colleagues have these files in thier systems too.
    Thanks again.
I don't know what may have occurred to delete them!!!

  • User template folder moved to trash how to put back in sytem library

moved user template folder to trash by mistake how do i put it back in the system library

Then, you should have gotten an authentication dialog box, assuming that the account is an admin one. If not, then you'll have to change the permissions on the folder. To do that, launch the Terminal.app in /Applications/Utilities/, copy and paste in this one-liner into the window that pops up, hit the return key. at the Password: prompt, carefully enter your admin password (since nothing shows up in the window), and hit the return key.
    sudo chmod -R root:admin ~/Desktop/Library
When the normal $ prompt returns, copy & paste this one-line in and hit the return key:
    sudo mv ~/Desktop/Library /System/
That should do the trick, moving the correctly permissioned folder back to its normal place. If so, it should be safe to restart the machine. If not, then my next suggestion is to reinstall the software.

  • Question regarding "User Template" folder in system library

    Hello everyone,
I was cleaning out some files that were no longer needed on my computer and I noticed a folder named "User Template" in the System Library. This folder had a small, red "minus" sign in its lower right corner. I tried to open the folder and it said that I did not have permission to view its contents.
I am the administrator on my computer, and the only user.
Can anyone tell me what this folder contains, and is it normal to be denied access to it?
    Thanks much!!

Consider everything in the System folder to be necessary.
Can anyone tell me what this folder contains
The default settings and files for each new user account created on the computer.
is it normal to be denied access to it?
    Yes.

  • Altering default user template in 10.6

    Hello,
Can anyone post explicit instructions for the simplest way of altering the default new user template in Snow Leopard? I need to alter the template so when a new account is created, it already has the bookmarks, settings, desktop image, etc that my office requires.
I'd prefer to do it Terminal because I'm guessing it will be a lot quicker than any GUI method (if there even is one). I've gotten conflicting information whether it's necessary to log in as root for this. Can it be done with sudo commands? I'm a relative UNIX noob, so explicit directions are appreciated!
    Thanks!

The only thing UNIX about it is to make sure you get all the permissions correct.
Run "sudo bash" to get a root shell. Then copy the folder "/System/Library/User Template" somewhere else so you can work on it. Change permissions on the COPY so that you can work on it. You could use the Finder or "chmod". After adjusting all the settings the way you want, copy it back, adjusting permissions to match the original.

  • AD users not downloading user template from AD+OD Leopard server

I have an OD master Leopard server that is also bound to AD for user accounts. The AD users are added to OD groups. The OD groups have managed preferences including mobile account settings. When I log into the AD+OD bound Leopard client as an AD user, the user template is not copied from the Leopard server to the client. The user template does get copied down to the client if I log into the Leopard client as an OD user in the same OD group. I noticed that the home folder path of an AD user is set to use SMB instead of AFP. I have tried to change this in WGM to use the AFP path but the setting does not hold after I click save. Always reverts back to the SMB home folder path which is the same as the AFP path except for the SMB at the beginning for example: smb://servername/networkusers/username instead of afp://servername/networkusers/username. I have set the AD plugin on the clients to use AFP but that still did not work.
Has anyone had any luck with this? Using a Leopard OD master server also bound to AD to host synced mobile accounts. On Leopard clients the user template is copied down to the clients from the server when the AD user first logs into the client?

    Hi Fred,
That worked! I thought it was something on the AD side not knowing the correct afp home folder path. And I thought the mobile account settings were enough using WGM. Never thought of also needing to set create mobile acount on login for the AD plugin but that makes sense.
    Thanks again for your help.
