Using a static library (Windows)

I have a static library in C++ (Windows). I know how to invoke methods in a dll.
Is it possible to invoke methods from a static library also, and how?
Thanks you.

I suppouse that you only have to do a DLL with the static library (pretty much like recompile the static library so it can be dinamically linked, or something similar, including the correct JNI method naming).

  • Problems creating a Native Extension linking to a static library

    Hi,
I'm trying to create my own Native Extension for iOs that will use another static library.
My problem occurs when I try to package my app with ADT: after a lot of "ld warning: unexpected srelocation type 9" , I get a final error : "ld: thumb bl/blx out of range (-4468380 max is +/-4M)"
This may be caused by the fact that the static library I am using needs the gcc setting "compile for thumb" turned off. I've done that in XCode to get my .a file to generate my .ane, but how could I tell ADT to take it into account ?
Thank you for your help !

Are you compiling for ARMv6 or ARMv7?
With armv7, you do not need to switch off the "compile for thumb" anyways.
Also, I guess you are using an iOS version greater than 4.3 to compile your native library. In this case, using -platformsdk switch of adt, while packaging your application might  just resolve your issue.(You will see some ld 4-byte alignment warnings, but thats ok)

  • How To Use The Same Library - MacBook Pro's And Windows XP Pro?

Background:  I have a fully configured MacBook Pro running OS X 10.8.3. Also, I run Windows XP Pro SP3 using Parallels Desktop. My primary iTunes Library and all content is stored on an external hard disk and the iTunes is "pointed" to that location by setting the iTunes' Preferences' Advanced Settings to the full path where the Library is located. Everything I have inside iTunes works perfect - the size if the Library is over 225GB!
BUT, when I install and use iTunes on my Windows XP Pro operating system (under Parallels), the contents of the Library SEEMS to work okay (while I'm in Windows) but the Windows' iTunes Library location in Preferences' Advance Tab is NOT THE SAME LOCATION AS IS THE MAC's LIBRARY LOCATION! It is not at the same location as my main/primary iTunes Library is "pointed to".
The problem occurs when I close Windows and return to the Mac OS X and then try to use my primary iTunes. All of the contents (and any content) within iTunes no longer work! When I attempt to play ANY song, movie, TV show, music video, audiobook, etc., a message pops up saying in effect "Location of 'x' can't be found, do you want to locate it?" I can then click 'yes' and navigate to the Library file that contains the song's file and it will then play fine, as it should. BUT, ONLY THAT SINGLE SONG WILL WORK - THE REMAINING 225GB STILL DON'T WORK!!!
So, I am forced to go into iTunes' Preferences' Advanced tab and click on "Change Location" then navigate to the proper library file (NOTE, THE LOCATION HAD BEEN CHANGED TO THE LOCATION FOR THE WINDOWS' LIBRARY LOCATION!!!)! Doing this corrects the primary iTunes functionality, but only after being forced to deleting the "iTunes Media Folder", quit iTunes, restart iTunes and Consolidate the Library - a whole bunch of steps and time to get back to "normal"!!!!!
Again, this all happens by going into Windows, opening its iTunes, then THAT triggers the entire scenario I've described above - EVERY TIME!
Thus, I avoid iTunes when I go into Windows, but I should NOT have to avoid using iTunes inside Windows! I hope I have described the problem/issues well enough that someone of you experts can provide a practical solution for me.
A potential remedy I've thought of is:  Go into Windows' iTunes then go into its Preferences' Advance tab and change ITS location to be the exact same location as the primary Mac OS X's, click OK, then immediately close that iTunes.
DOES THIS SOUND LIKE IT WILL WORK - I.e., USING THE EXACT SAME LIBRARY LOCATION FOR BOTH iTUNES?????
IF THIS WOULD WORK, WHAT ELSE MUST I DO TO EITHER iTUNES OR TO BOTH iTUNES TO USE BOTH iTUNES
              USING THE SAME LIBRARY???
Thank you for any suggested solutions - VERY MUCH!
    Larry

Note that sharing a folder between different OS that use different file paths is not recommended as some files can have an absolute path or other OS specific data.
You can click the Choose Folder button if you want to create or use a folder in a different location.<br />
Make sure to select an empty folder (you need to create this folder in advance) and not a folder that already has files as Firefox will use the specified location in this case.

  • How to create a static library using xcode ?

    Hi,
I need to create a C static library using xcode in order to use it in another developement environment which is Free Pascal Compiler/Lazarus.
I have very few knowledge about C. I just know how to program the function I need and I've already written my C function using xcode.
Using Lazarus (Pascal IDE), for example, as I use IOKit, I have declared the path of IOKit in the linking section (that is /Developer/SDKs/MacOSX10.6.sdk/System/Library/Frameworks/IOKit.framework/IOkit) . IOKit is a unix executable, and I can use the exported functions it contains in my Pascal code.
So, I would build such kind of unix executable where I can put my own functions written in C. But I can't figure out how to do it.
How to export my functions ? Must I use some specific C keywords to "publish" them (export, __export,...) ? How to create an executable file like IOKit ? Which kind of project must I choose in XCode ?...
    André.

Thanks for the response.  Yes, that's how I started.  I have now managed to get it to build static libraries; the piece I was missing was the scheme stuff.  I also tried to build dynamic libraries, but still no luck with those.  It was a little confusing because sometimes if I started a new project the scheme would allow me to create output as is; other times I had to edit the scheme first.  So reading the documentation appears to have paid off after all.
FWIW, what I was trying to build was a missing library needed for a project in Python.  The entire project has two C libraries, which I've managed to build now, altough I don't know if there are some specific options that I need to set for them to work with the C wrapper.  The C wrapper is written in Cython, which creates a C file from Python-like statements.  The end result of linking the two libraries and the compiled C wrapper should be a file that can be imported into Python, which should have an extension of ".so".
So far the last part is not working, so I don't know if the problem is with the build settings for the libraries, or something else.

  • How to use the static lib of berkeleydb in VC6?

I know there is a libdb45s.lib. But when I try to link my project to it, VC6 reports many errors. Even the getting start examples cannot link correctly. The documents coming with berkeley db do not tell me how to link project to the lib, no matter static or dynamic.
Could anyone tell me how to use the static lib libdb45s.lib and how to link it properly?
    OS: Windows XP pro SP2
    IDE: Virsual C++ 6.0 sp6
    BDB: 4.5.20
Here is what I have done to link the libdb45s.lib:
1.Add BDB related diretorys to VC6 link/lib dirs
    2.Add #include <db.c> to my .cpp file, I use the C API
    3.Change Project Options
    Link-> Libs/Objects-> add "libdb45s.lib"
C/C++-> code generation-> Use Run Time Library-> MutiThreaded
    Link-> Ignore Library-> MSVCRT
4.Build, here is the output, hope it would be some help:

  • IOCTL's from a static library linked to KMDF driver

    Hi,
Im trying to build a static library that can be used across multiple KMDF drivers. The library needs to send IOCTL's to another driver to access required functionality.
The library does not have access to the Wdf device object/objects of the KMDF drivers it is being linked to.
To send IOCTLs from the library, i thought i would use WdfIoTragetCreate/open and then use WdfIoTargetSendIoctlSynchronously. However, to create the IO target, i require a device object.
I thought i could call WdfGetDriver to get the driver object and create a dummy device object with no callbacks. However, all the examples and documentation seems to indicate that you only call WdfDeviceCreate inside EvtDeviceAdd or  EvtChildListCreateDevice callback,
or from a call to WdfPdoInitAllocate.
Is it incorrect to call WdfDeviceCreate from a library which will be used way after the KMDF driver has come up ?
What options do i have to be able to send IOCTL's to other drivers from this static library?
    -R___K

You need to pass in the actual device object, one of the many things that WDF does for you is cleanup things like reference counts etc, so you don't want to be using a dummy device object, since you will be entering the area of having to worry about when
    to clean it up.
Since it is a static library you can use WDF calls unlike a DLL.

  • Compiling program VC++ (and ComponentWork++) in release's mode with static library ...

When i try to compil the program, there are conflicts between "nafxcw.lib" and an other library. The conflicts doesn't exist when i compil the program with shared library. Can you help me ?
my OS is Windows NT 4.0
    thanks

Which "other library" does nafxcw.lib conflict with? Nafxcw.lib is an mfc library and is not distributed with Componentworks++.
When you say the conflict does not exist when you use the shared library, are you talking about the selection in the Measurement Studio App Wizard where it asks how you want to access the mfc library? What exactly is the conflict that you get?
In general I would always select to use the mfc library as a shared dll, because it is a known issue to statically link the library into any arbitrary project, not just a Componentworks++ project.

  • Static library is always rebuilt even though there are no changes

I'm using Visual Studio Express 2012 to build a solution containing several projects including two EXEs, one DLL, and a recently added static library. The static library is used by one of the EXEs and soon the DLL as well.
Ever since adding the static library I get the following pop-up message every time I use the "Start Debugging" or "Start Without Debugging" to start the EXE:
This project is out of date
         library - Debug Win32
Would you like to build it?
This happens even when there have been no changes to any of the source files in the static library.
If I click "Yes" I see in the output window that it is starting a build of the static library but no files are recompiled and the library manager is not run.
I had a similar problem with one of the EXE projects a couple of years ago and was advised to delete all of the files from the Debug (or Release) directory for the project and allow them to be rebuilt. That solved the problem with the EXE project but I've
tried to do the same with the static library project and it does not olve the problem. The EXE
is not rebuilt as it should be if anything had changed in the static library.
    Any suggestions?
    Norm

  • How do I use my webcam in Windows 8?

QuestionHow do I use my webcam in Windows 8?

If you'd like to skip this guide and contact a professional, CLICK HERE.
Just like how you can use your keyboard with many applications, there are many applications with which you can use your webcam.
    Camera app
Most Windows 8 laptops come with the Camera app pre-installed. You’ll find it on the Start screen, or you can search for it by typing “Camera” at the Start screen. If you don’t have it installed, you can download it from the Store app.
Do note that while I’m explaining how to use the Camera app, you can use other apps with your webcam as well. Run the Camera app. If this is the first time you’ve opened the Camera app, you’ll likely see a message asking if you’d like to allow the app to know your location. Select either Allow or Block depending on your personal preference.
    Recording
You’ll see an image in the center with two buttons on the right. When the bottom button is pressed, it’ll save the image to the camera roll. Press the top button to begin recording a video. While a video is recording, a timer will be displayed in the image and the top button will change. Press it again to stop recording.
Right-click anywhere in the camera app while viewing the camera to see additional buttons at the bottom, including timer and exposure buttons.
    Browsing the camera roll
When you move the mouse on the screen, you’ll notice a button on the left that can be used to scroll through your camera roll. While viewing the camera roll, move your mouse to see a back button and forward button on the sides of the screen. If you move forward all the way, you’ll be back at the camera.
You can right-click in the camera roll to see additional options there as well, including rotating and cropping.
    Photo and video storage
Your photos and videos in your camera roll are stored in a folder named “Camera Roll” in the “Pictures” folder.
To find this folder, hold the Windows key and press the ‘E’ key to open File Explorer, then select “Pictures” in “This PC.”

In addition to this article, you can watch the following video for more information on using your webcam.

Recovering your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device: Apple Support Communities

  • I have been using itunes on my windows based pc for years but since installing the latest itunes update I have been getting the error message A required itunes component is not installed. Please reinstall itunes. (-42404)

I have been using itunes on my windows 64 bit laptop for years but since downloading the latest itunes 10.7 update whenever I opened itunes the error message 'A required itunes component is not installed. Please reinstall itunes (-42404)'
Itunes would still load and play music in my library and I could still sync my ipod but when loading a CD itunes would not recognise the album/tracks and I would need to type them manualing after uploading.
I have just bought the new iphone5 and went to sync the phone with itunes. itunes recognises the iphone when plugged in via the usb port or when wi fi is turned on but itunes will not allow the phone to sync.
I spent over an hour the other morning speaking to apple customer support and have ensured I have administer right and that UAC is turned off.
I was taken through msconfigure and adjusted the startup tab but still no joy.
In the end I was e-mailed instructions on how to uninstall and then reinstall itunes and component parts.
Now that I've uninstalled itunes when I try reinstalling I get the following messages during the download.
    The 1st message is;
'The installer has insufficient privileges to modify this file C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application  Support\Web kit.resources\inspector\Images\Spinner Inactive Selected.gif.'
    When I click ok the next message that appears sometime later during the install is;
Service 'Apple Mobile Device' (Apple Mobile Device) Failed to start Verify that you have sufficient privileges to start system services.
The options I have are to abort, retry or ignore. If I retry the same message comes back and if I  abort or ignore the download continues and I then get the following message:
'Apple Application Support was not found. Apple Application Support is required to run itunes Helper. Please uninstall itunes, then reinstall itunes again. Error 2'
After attempting to reinstall itunes only some components were installed however itunes would not open.
It would appear many people have experienced problems with this latest download!

'The installer has insufficient privileges to modify this file C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application Support\Web kit.resources\inspector\Images\Spinner Inactive Selected.gif.'
That one's consistent with disk/file damage. The first thing I'd try with that is running a disk check (chkdsk) over your C drive.
XP instructions in the following document: How to perform disk error checking in Windows XP
Vista instructions in the following document: Check your hard disk for errors
Windows 7 instructions in the following document: How to use CHKDSK (Check Disk)
Select both Automatically fix file system errors and Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors, or use chkdsk /r (depending on which way you decide to go about doing this). You'll almost certainly have to schedule the chkdsk to run on startup. The scan should take quite a while ... if it quits after a few minutes or seconds, something's interfering with the scan.
Does the chkdsk find/repair any damage? If so, can you get an install to go through properly afterwards?

  • Creating a static library with XCode cross-project references.

I have a project and am trying to move a lot of the code into a static shared library, and added a cross project reference to this library in my app.
However, when I moved a file from my app to the library (removing the reference in my app and moving the file to the library's project directory), and try building my app, I get compiler error messages as if the file I have moved doesn't exist.
When I build my library project, it says the build has succeeded, but the library.a file remains red. It is also red in the my referencing app project.
If anybody has any experience setting up cross-project references in XCode, I'd appreciate any help.
If it helps identify where the problem is, I've performed the following steps to setup the library and cross-project reference:
    1. I created a new Cocoa Touch static library project in XCode which would house the shared code.
    2. I changed the global settings in XCode to place the build products in a shared build directory (rather that the project directory), and made sure the intermediate build files are placed with the build products.
I changed this using the Preferences menu, but have also gone into the project info for both my app project and the library project and made made sure it is set to place the build projects in the custom shared build directory.
    3. I then added a Source Tree, and made sure that the Path of the project directory of the library project.
    4. I added a project reference to the library project's .xcodeproj file in my application project. I changed the library project reference so that it was relative to JIGSAW24LIBRARY.
    5. I configured the library dependencies by going to my app's target's info, and adding a direct dependency to the library project.
    6. In my app's info build tab, I changed the user header search paths so that it uses the search tree I setup (I used the $(SEARCHTREE_NAME) notation, but checked that this resolves to a valid path). I also made sure that the Always Search User Paths checkbox is checked, and that the Library Search Paths is blank.
    7. I click-dragged the library.a file under the library project so that it was under the Link Binary With Library sub folder of my app's target.
For step 5, I've also tried adding the reference to the other project as a linked library, rather than a direct dependency, but this doesn't seem to work either.

I managed to fix the problem. The steps above seem to be correct. The problem seems to be related to the source trees that are defined...
I was previously using an absolute path for the source tree which pointed at the folder containing the library project. I changed this to a relative path to the same folder (relative from the calling project) and this seems to fix it.
I'd double checked that the absolute path specified was correct, so it looks like the user header search paths specified must be relative to the current project.

  • How can I have 2 bookmark library windows for organization? (or split screens)

To organize my bookmarks in a faster and more efficient way. I would like to be able to have 2 bookmark library windows open or the possibility to split the screen. So I can drag & drop bookmarks from one folder to another without having to cut/paste and to scroll from bottom
to top or top to bottom (when having long lists of folders).
I remember being able to do this a few years earlier with previous
    versions of firefox or netscape.
Mustn't be that hard to have this possibility.
    No existing add-ons either.

You can use the chrome URLs:

  • How to use a tag library in multiple web applications?

    Morning all,
Environment: Tomcat 5 on Apache2 using Mod_JK connector on Windows XP
I have developed a custom tag library and tested it out and its working great.
Now, How do I use in my other web applications? Do I need to copy the JAR file to webapps\app1\WEB-INF\lib, webapps\app2\WEB-INF\lib etc directories?
The problem with this approach is, if I happen to change the tag library code, I will have to make sure that I remember to copy the new JAR file to the above mentioned directories. Ofcourse I can write a simple ant script that would do it for me, but I was wondering if there was an efficient and yet simple way of achieving the same.
    Thanks in advance,
    Joe

Thanks Vidyut! You've answered my question.
I placed the jar file in the $CATALINA_HOME/shared/lib directory. But where should I place the taglib TLD file? And how should I reference it in web.xml?
Currently, my web.xml is as follows and it doesn't work.
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="ISO-8859-1"?>
    <!DOCTYPE web-app
    PUBLIC "-//Sun Microsystems, Inc.//DTD Web Application 2.3//EN"

    <taglib-location>c:\Tomcat\shared\lib\mytags-taglib.tld</taglib-location>
    </taglib>
    </web-app>
    Thanks again!
