Using a viewobject with foreach tag in .jsp

Hi guys I have the following scenario:
1- I call a certain .jsp page
2- a controller class (extends servlet) is called, this class: takes a view object (let's call it view), executes it's query, forwards the result to the jsp page.
3- jsp page has a foreach tag that iterates over the query result.
My problem is that foreach tag only takes list or array in its "items" attribute.
Now is there a way to put the view object result in an array/list? in other words in my servlet what should I put in the request so that the foreach tag can iterate over the rows of the query. Thank you in advance for the reply.

This code works fine for me:
<%@ taglib uri="/jstl-c" prefix="c" %>
<html>
     <body>
     <%
          int array[] = new int[] {1,2};
          session.setAttribute("array", array);
          String arrayNames[] = new String[]{"One", "Two"};
          session.setAttribute("arrayNames", arrayNames);
     %>
          <form action="?">
          <select name="select">
               <c:forEach items='${ sessionScope.array}' var="row">
                    <c:choose>
                         <c:when test="${param.select== row}"> >
                              <option value="<c:out value='${row}'/>" selected><c:out value="${sessionScope.arrayNames[row-1]}"/></option>
                         </c:when>
                         <c:otherwise>
                              <option value="<c:out value='${row}'/>"><c:out value="${sessionScope.arrayNames[row-1]}"/></option>
                         </c:otherwise>
                    </c:choose>
               </c:forEach>
          </select>
          <input type="submit" name="submit" value="submit"></input>
          </form>
     </body>
</html>
good luck.

  • Problems using a variable with a tag of a webapp

    I have a webapp where I've built a field in the database for the item is active or not, depending if my client chooses if it's free or not.
    The name of the tag that I want to use as a variable is { tag_estado } and has two values:
    Gratis
    Pago
    When in jQuery I create a variable to store the value of this tag and created a conditional to activate the link and icon of the item, always the tag value prints it on "Pago", even though the webapp item has the value of "Gratis"
    I appreciate your time to help me resolve this issue.

    It's tough to tell without seeing the page but it looks like your code may be defaulting to the else statement. You could delete the else and see if it does anything

  • Using JEditorPane.selected() with embedded tags.

    Ok, I've been searching the forums and tutorials for about an hour tonight, and I've seen this question asked in many forms but never answered.
    I am writing an applet which uses embedded HTML and some custom tags in a sub-class of JEditorPane that I wrote. I need to be able to get the position of certain tags within the text, which I can do using the JEditorPane.getText() method. But now that I've found the right tags, how can I highlight text contained within them in the visible Pane?
    e.g.:
    getText() returns
    <html>
    <head>
    </head>
    <body>
    Check</shu_ind> this <shu_dep>out</shu_dep>
    </body>
    </html>
    And these shu tags are the ones I want to use. I can parse the text and grab the right position, but when I select(begin,end), it's off by a lot b/c select() doesn't look at any embedded info.
    What can I do?

    I don't think it's the same as I'm doing. Essentially, I have a JEditorPane subclass, which just has a few custom tags in it. I don't need them to be recognized by java, since it will be uneditable, but I just need to know how to convert from the getText() locations to the actual displayed text locations.
    Also, when I set the text as text/html, it creates a bunch of extra HTML tags, so it's larger than the original String used to create it.

  • How to use navigationmethod byEPCM with navigation tag libraries?

    Hi,
    we have created our own Top Level Navigation component which implements a hover meny for level 3-5. The menu works great when navigationmethod in the anchor is set to "byURL":
    <nav:navNodeAnchor navigationMethod="byURL" anchorAttributes="class='LinkLevel1u'"/>
    but we need to use "byEPCM" since we want to utilize history, forward and backwards functions of the Page Toolbar.
    When we set
    navigationMethod="byEPCM"
    our menu is not updated when the users clicks on a menu item. But in the content area the correct page/iview is shown.
    Use of byEPCM is very poorly documented, does anyone have any experience with it?

    Vegard,
    I am facing the exact same issue you had with the menu navigation not refreshing, but the content area displays the correct pages. Did you find a fix to this problem? Could you please post a reply if you did or didn't. Thanks.

    Thank you for the reply.
    But my application is not a web based one.
    I am developing a framework (as swf) in which some other swf files (target files) are played as movie clip. Since the framework swf should be considered as a general one, no direct linking to the other swfs preferred. I follow some (my own) rules to get things worked. For example, I need to show a simple movie cilp as the title in the framework. This movie clip will be different in different target swfs, and they will be stored inside the target swfs itself. I was thinking about giving them a unique id (eg. title_id) and after loading the target swfs, show their titles (movie clips) in one of the framework's empty movie clip (using attachMovie).
    Could please suggest me any idea to get things work?

    You seem to be using both the EL and the RT JSTL libs on the same page.
    If you are in a JSP1.2 container, then you can only use EL with the EL tags, and <%= expr %> with the rt tags.
    If you have a JSP2.0 container (eg Tomcat 5) properly configured (ie web.xml is version 2.4) then you should use JSTL1.1, which accepts both sorts of expressions. (${expr} is a runtime expression in JSP2.0)
    Try either
    <c:forEach var='x' items='${lista}'>
    or
    <c_rt:forEach var='x' items='<%= Valores %>'>

    I'm not sure why you are getting the console message, but here is how you might use the tag. This will simply print out the list of immediate groups (not parent groups) to which user "weblogic" is a member.

  • Justifications needed for using tags in JSP, Please reply

    Hi forum
    My question is to those java people who have also done JSP. I m sound in java server side (servlet programming), now I have asked by my project manager to do server side programming in JSP using tagLibraries (as these are used by those ppl who didnt have much java knowledge). I have worked inserver side java, then my question is y should I start working on tags,
    On the other hand I can do all the work in java embedding in JSP (on some extent, seperated by diffrent helper/util classes to reduce the thickness of JSP page).
    so I want to ask u ppl that should a java programmer needs to use tag libraries to code a JSP page, however he can code it in java directly.
    I will feal great pleasure if u will write ur opinions and help me to ease my life.
    thanx in advance
    Best Regards
    Tahir

    You should use tag libraries whenever you can because:
    1) They increase code re-useability. You can insert the same tag in many pages using just a few lines to do complex tasks, as opposed to writing a lot of scriptlet code in each JSP.
    2) Enhance your ability to seperate logic from display. Everything in your tags is logic. Everything in your JSP is display - with the tags bridging the logic to the display.
    3) Make the JSPs cleaner and easier to maintain. They read easier with tags than with a lot of scriptlets. Non-java people can be used to update the look and feel of the web page, or to debug the HTML later on, relieving the Java programmers for the tag work, or other jobs more suited to them.
    4) Your boss said to do tags, so do tags.

  • How use forEach tag in xml tag library

                   <x:out select="${n}/author" />
         </x:forEach>
    </body>
    </html>
    but I got the fallowing error.

    Just the same way as you do in JSP. Since JSF 1.2 you can use unified EL #{ } in c:forEach.
    You can also use Tomahawk's [t:dataList|http://myfaces.apache.org/tomahawk-project/tomahawk12/tagdoc/t_dataList.html] by the way. It is more efficient.

  • Problem with custom tag using TagExtraInfo

              Hi,
              I have a tag that create a Java variable using TEI. The scope of this
              variable is driving me crazy. The problem is hard to describe, so the
              email is a bit long - stay with me...
              <pre:setvar id="foo" value="test" /> create a Java variable
              named "foo", which has String value "test". I can use "foo" like this in
              the page later: <%= foo %>.
              Now, if I call setvar twice with same id:
              <pre:setvar id="foo" value="test" />
              <pre:setvar id="foo" value="another-test" />
              This is still ok. By checking the compiled Java file, the first call
              declare the var, the second call just use it without creating it again:
                   //first call
                   String foo=null;
                   foo="test";
                   //second call
                   foo="another test";
              Now the problem comes when the frist call is in "if" statement (code is not
              useful, only for demostration):
              <% if (1>0) { %>
                   <pre:setvar id="foo" value="test" />
              <% } %>
              <pre:setvar id="foo" value="another-test" />
              The compiled code looks like:
                   if (1>0) {
                        //first call
                        String foo=null;
                        foo="test";
                   //second call
                   foo="another test";
              Variable foo is out of scope at the second call! (BTW, I can workaround this by
              adding another <pre:setvar id="foo" value="" /> before the "if".)
              Is it a fault in JSP specification? Or a problem when WebLogic implements TEI?
              Any idea?
              Thanks,
              -- Jin

    I encountered the same problem in our environment. I did the same thing as
              James. Simply re-initialize all variables in the do end tag.
              Also, with the nested tags you use you may also need to implement cloneable
              in the inner tag if the outer tag keeps references to all the inner tag
              instances.
              For instance if the outer tag kept a vector of references to the inner tag,
              then you would need to use clone() on the inner tag before adding it to the
              vector.

  • How to dynamically include jsp files using jsf el in include tag ?

    Hi,
    I'm trying to get the jsp file name from my backing bean to use it in an include tag but I can't make it work
    When using this piece of code I can get the generated path
             <h:outputText value="/_partial/#{myBean.jspName}.jsp"/>whereas in this code the jsf el is not replaced by this value.
            <%@ include file="/_partial/#{myBean.jspName}.jsp" %> Have you any idea of how to solve this ? I'm currently developing for J2EE 1.4 platform.
    Thanks for your help,
    Regards.

    If you're using JSF 1.2 and JSTL 1.2 at a JSP 2.1 environment, then you can just use <jsp:include> with unified EL.
    If you're using JSF 1.1, then you may find this article useful [http://balusc.blogspot.com/2007/01/dynamic-jsf-subviews.html]

  • Jsf 1s phase of life cycle how knows ths components of the jsp with jsf tag

    i wish to know how faces servlet knows the jsp s view components while creaTI NG component tree at first request to input jsp which may have jsf tags.in the first phase faces servlet doesnot know input jsp with jsf tags what componnets it has. it is actually atthe response send or forward time which is the final phase when the tag ge executed and output is sent to client.i did understandin jsf life cycle in 1 st phase component tree is created at first request in 1 st phase .

    Hi,
    though a FacesContext holds the values used by a request, it doesn't mean it lives for as long as the request. The best explanation I found is from the JavaDocs
    release
    public abstract void release()
    +Release any resources associated with this FacesContext instance. Faces implementations may choose to pool instances in the associated FacesContextFactory to avoid repeated object creation and garbage collection. After release() is called on a FacesContext instance (until the FacesContext instance has been recycled by the implementation for re-use), calling any other methods will cause an IllegalStateException to be thrown.+
    The implementation must call setCurrentInstance(javax.faces.context.FacesContext) passing null to remove the association between this thread and this dead FacesContext instance.
    Throws:
    java.lang.IllegalStateException - if this method is called after this instance has been released

  • JSTL : problems with sql:query /forEach  tag

    I am not able to iterate thru the resultset provided by <sql:query> tag in JSTL. rowcount and columnName works, which means that query does produce a resultset. However, the <c:forEach> tag doesnt display the retrieved data. Code is approx like:
    c:catch var="e">
    <sql:query var="queryResults" >
    select * from emp
    </sql:query>
    </c:catch>
    <c:if test="${e!=null}">The caught exception is: ${e}
    ${queryResults.rowCount} <br>
    <c:forEach var="row" items="${queryResults.rows}">
    <tr>
    <td> <c:out value="${row.EMPNO}" /></td>
    </tr>
    </c:forEach>
    </table>
    Error thrown is :

    Pls. help!

    Thanks a lot all. My problem was solved by simply replacing the taglib directive
    <%@ taglib uri="http://java.sun.com/jstl/core" prefix="c" %>
    to
    <%@ taglib uri="http://java.sun.com/jsp/jstl/core" prefix="c" %>
    Cheers!
