Using Acrobat 6 with inDesign CS2

Hi,
Recently purchased CS2 Standard (inDesign, Photohop, Illustrator), and need to add on Acrobat. Can I add on 6.0 instead of 7.0, and still get easy exporting of pdf's from inDesign (seems like I just need to adjust my preferences and/or print dialog box selections within inDesign)?
THANKS

John:
You don't need Acrobat in order to "Export" or "Save As" a PDF from inDesign, Photoshop or Illustrator.
But, in order to view them properly in Acrobat 6 you may have to adjust your export settings to make them Acrobat 6 (PDF 1.5) compatible.

  • Problems using Acrobat 9 with InDesign CS2

    We have just upgraded from Acrobat 7 to version 9 but are still using CS2 for everything else(don't ask!!!). However, when we use the Adobe pdf presets, they still seem to be using the version 7 job options. I've tried to load up the new job options (from C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Adobe\Adobe PDF\Settings) but it says 'cannot import presets from this file'.
    IT are not being very helpful with this, so I need help please! Microsoft office seems to be using version 9, and I can make a postscript file using version 9 in the print window of InDesign, but for some reason I can't get the programme to recognise the new presets.
    Thanks v much

    David,
    When you print to PDF (or Distill in two steps), your transparency gets flattened BEFORE the PDF is made, so the transparency is not really there, just the "appearance" of the transparency. Exporting to PDF 1.4 (Acrobat 5) or later keeps the transparency "Live" in the PDF so that flattening can be handled in the RIP, as well as eliminating flattening artifacts (referred to as stitching, which appear as thin white lines along the borders of transparent regions in front of a colored background) during on-screen viewing.
    Although Illustrator is not a general purpose PDF editing tool, it can be instructive to do a little demonstration of the difference in the structure of the same file exported and printed to PDF. Start by placing a photograph as a background, then use one of InDesign's shape tools to put a filled shape in front of the photo, and apply a drop shadow to the shape. Export and print using the Press Quality preset (which will keep the transparency live in the export, but the printed PDF will be flattened, despite its PDF 1.4 compatibility).
    First, you'll probably see stitching in Acrobat on the printed version, and it may be lighter in appearance overall than the exported version. Now open the two version in Illustrator. Open the layers panel and keep expanding the groups until you are able to isolate the shape and drop shadow elements (in the exported version the shadow will probably be grouped with a clipping mask, while in the printed version the shadow may be in several pieces and has been burned into a copy of the background photo). Try to select the shape and shadow and move them relative to the background.
    Mostly, though, I was referring to the fact that you can't use bookmarks, buttons, or other interactive elements in Printed PDF.

  • How to place a word document in a TextFrame with InDesign CS2 scripting (JavaScript)?

  • Acrobat 7, Leopard InDesign CS2, printing but with poor results

    I know there are issues with Leopard and Acrobat, I'm just trying to see if my problem falls into that category or if it is something else.
    I am running Leopard 10.5.1 on a MacBook Pro with CS2. In general, I am able to print with my PDF printer and get good results from several programs but NOT from InDesign (CS2, 4.0.5). I've got a two page document with lots of small text and graphics, which used to print just beautiful as a PDF (for my students to download from a course website). Now, however, the fonts in the PDF have terrible resolution and look awful! But, I can still generate beautiful PDFs with terrific looking fonts from Mellel (a word processing program I use for Hebrew). This is using the same settings in Distiller and in my Adobe PDF printer.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks, Karyn

  • Using Acrobat Object in InDesign Javascript Script

    Hi there,
    for a current job, I would like to replace pages in a PDF document right after I have exported the pages from InDesign. The export works well, but now I need to instantiate an acrobat object in my InDesign Script. At the moment, I only have Photoshop and Bridge objects available in my ExtendScript IDE. Is there any way to instantiate a Acrobat object in InDesign Script?
    I use InDesign CS3 and Acrobat 8 on a Macintosh computer.
    Any help would be great!
    Thanks a lot in advance!
    Greetings
    Mimi

    I do not believe this can be entirely done from within JavaScript. You could use doScript to call a script in a different language that is capable of interacting with Acrobat.

  • After crash, users cannot use MS Office or InDesign CS2

    Hi,
    Our server had a couple of kernel panics last night. Once I got it back up and running, our 10 client computers could not access their user databases for Entourage, MS Word would not open, and Adobe InDesign CS2 would not work.
    All the clients were running when the server went down and I'm assuming the user folders got corrupted somehow since most of them were running these apps at the time.
    I've tried everything short of re-installing the software. Would this fix the problem? The MS apps are generally giving me an error code -5000 along with a dameon error, and that Entourage cannot access the user database. InDesign just reports a serious error and that it is shutting down. The error report has too many lines of code for me to decipher.
    Our server is a G4 DP 1.25 w/ 2GB of RAM, 500GB mirrrored RAID drive setup running OSX Tiger Server 10.4.9. The user's home folders are stored on the server... no user information is kept on the client machines.
    Any suggestions today (Sunday) would be greatly appreciated. We've got a newspaper to put out in the morning and I've been up all night already. It is going to be a long day...
    Alan

    Okay... got it figured out. It was actually pretty simple. I had never completely shut down the whole system at one time after the crash. Router, server, switches and clients... all together at one time (I had rebooted the server and clients separately though)...
    So, after bringing everything down, then back online one by one, things started to work again. Lesson learned.
    There were a few settings on the server that needed to be reset (DNS... POP in Mail services), but for the most part, things just worked once back online.
    Thanks for chipping in.
    Cheers,

  • Anybody having trouble with InDesign CS2 documents on a network drive?

    I just set up my Airport network at home (Airport Extreme base station, external hard drive plugged into the USB port, iMac G5 plugged into one of the Ethernet ports) and have run into a peculiar problem. When working on my iMac (connected vie ethernet) I open an Adobe InDesign CS2 document from the USB network drive. After a minute or so InDesign tells me something has gone wrong and it is shutting down. I immediately re-launch InDesign and it does its auto-recovery and immediately shuts down again. If I re-launch again and it asks if I want to begin auto recovery it immediately shuts down again. Only by telling it "no" to auto revoery can I break the cycle and let InDesign launch normally. However, if I then go to the file I was working on and attempt to open it, InDesign shuts down. I know that InDesign creates a temporary Lock file when you open a document. My guess is that somehow the lock file is getting corrupted and preventing InDesign from opening this file. InDesign documents are the only file types thus affected, Illustrator and Photoshop are fine. I have a second hard drive connected via Firewire and have never had any problems with files from it. My question is, what would be causing the problem on my network drive connectd to the base station? Am I the only one out there with this problem?

  • To access bookmarks in pdf doc using acrobat sdk with C#

    Hi, I am converting a word doc to PDF. While doing this the headlines in word doc are getting converted to bookmarks in PDF & I get a bookmark tree. I want the bookmarks to be collapsed. I am using acrobat dll to convert word doc to pdf. Want to use the same to collapse the bookmarks.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks & Regards,

    Hi Irosenth,
    If we have Acrobat installed on our m/c in Micorsoft office word I get an "Acrobat" tab. In that I get an option to create "PDF" from word.
    So keeping this in mind I created a  project in C# using VS 2008. In this project I took the reference of "Acrobat.dll" the com library.
    Using the reference of this library I converted the word/excel/ppt docs to PDF.
    Below is the code snippet :
    public
    void startConversion(string docFile, string pdfFile){
    Acrobat.
    AcroAVDocClass _acroDoc = new Acrobat.AcroAVDocClass();Acrobat.
    AcroPDDoc _pdDoc = null;
    string strNonPDFFile = docFile;
    string strPDFFile = pdfFile;
    _acroDoc.Open(strNonPDFFile, strPDFFile);
    _pdDoc = (Acrobat.
    AcroPDDoc)(_acroDoc.GetPDDoc());
    _pdDoc.Save(
    Convert.ToInt16(Acrobat.PDSaveFlags.PDSaveFull), strPDFFile);
    _pdDoc.Close();
    _pdDoc =
    null;_acroDoc.Close(1);
    _acroDoc =
    null;}
    This does convert Word/exce/ppt to pdf successfully. But I wanted to get access to the bookmarks of the PDF file....
    Any help would be appreciated.

  • Using Elements Organizer with Photoshop CS2

    I have grown comfortable with Photoshop Elements integrated organizer and have upgraded to Photoshop CS2 and instead of using the CS2 file manager would like to continue to use the Elements organizer. The problem Im having is when I edit a photo in CS2 and save it, I have to go find the edited file in Elements organizer and add it manually to the organizer, where if I edit in Photoshop elements, the file is automatically added in the organizer for me. Is there something I can do to make this more automatic when I edit in CS2?
    Thanks
    Joe

    Joe,
    I have all the current updates for both products, but other than that, I've
    done nothing special.
    For regular file types (jpg, psd, etc.) the handshake goes without a hitch.
    Raw files act a little quirky. Raw files do get passed from Organizer to
    CS2 and they open in camera raw. But, I've found that if you don't press
    the "open" button in camera raw, CS2 will give you an error message that
    says it couldn't receive the document from "Photoshop Album". Click ok on
    that message and you get another that says it could not complete the update
    from the Photoshop Album command because of a program error.
    If, I press "open" in the camera raw dialog to edit in CS2, all is fine. If
    I make changes and save, Organizer pops up a message saying I've returned to
    Organizer and gives me an option to add to a version set or keep it
    separate. It adds to the version set fine. But, since I only selected save
    in CS2, it remains open there. If I make further edits to the open file and
    save, I have to manually update the organizer thumbnail. On the other hand,
    if I just click close and respond yes to the "save changes" message , I get
    two popups -- one labled "edited file from Photoshop" and "new edited file".
    If I click "ok" on both, I get two entries in the version set. (I've done
    that with a regular file and I only get one popup.)
    So, there you have it. Ordinary files work as expected. But, raw is quirky.
    Raw files work fine if you continue to open in CS2 from camera raw and only
    save once.

  • How to use Acrobat SDK with C# and how much is it?

    I just want to know these info because I'm new here and I can't seem to find any answers to these here in the forums and on the Documentation.

    Hi,
    The Acrobat SDK is free and can be downloaded from http://www.adobe.com\devnet\acrobat. Please note to use the SDK you require Acrobat/Reader to be installed.
    As for using it with c#, there are a number of sample files in the SDK that can be used to learn. There is also documentation online and in the SDK.
    Hope thie helps

  • Problem using Acrobat Pro with Chrome 41.0.2272.118

    This works in IE and Firefox but not in Chrome; When I double click on an attachment on my dashbord, only while in Chrome, It tries to open in it's own pdf viewer or Acrobat Reader depending on what plug-in is enabled..  I want to open pdf's in Acrobat X Pro. I have Edit-Prefs-"Display PDF in Browser" selected and the pointer set to Acrobat XPro. I tried disabling both Chrome pdf viewer and the Acrobat Reader Plug-Ins and now it sends me to save the attachment.  This adds many steps to what is a single Point & Click in FF or IE.  I need the full functionallity of A-X Pro.  I have to do this many times in a day.  Saving to my internal drive and reopening from there will waste a lot of time in a day.

    Hi,
    1. To change the scan mode to ADF, you can change it on MAC under the Scan-Modus dropdown in ICA Window (Second window in snapshot)
    2. I think you are able to scan both sides automatically using Samsung SCX scanner as the scanner is a duplex scanner. Currently Acrobat automatically scans only front side for simplex scanner and scans both sides for duplex scanner and the option for scan sides is disabled for ICA
    In case your scanner stops scanning in flatbed mode, please try to scan with the system scanner to see if it is not due to scanning at a very high DPI
    I think this solves your problems.

  • Problem with indesign cs2

    When i start my indesign problem i´ve recived a box that says
    the installer seems to have written the wrong AUM application ID
    I don´t know what to do to fix this problem and the program worked smooth as a charm until to day, it´s not expired or is a trail version.
    I´ve installed the whole creative suite and it´s only the indesign program who won´t work.
    I ve reinstalled it but it won´t work now.
    I´ve also gone thrue my computer for viruses and things like that but that didn´t work either.
    I´ve installed ad-aware - can that program have caused a problem ?

    Ben,
    Let me start with, I'm asking questions from a Mac perspective.
    What are you using for font management? Are the fonts located in the same location on each machine? How are the fonts activated? (And, are the fonts auto-activated on each machine? Or is that just a Mac feature?)
    >In addition, when someone uses a new font, it's only available locally.
    I don't understand. That font is only installed on that one machine?
    Depending upon your font license -- and it varies from font to font; even with different ways that identical fonts are acquired -- you can use a central server for your fonts, and specify privileges for each user. I use single license Font AgentPro on each of my Macs and like the interface. See if there is a server version for Windows available.
