Using an Apostrophe in a Search

Hi,
I've been creating Help topics in RoboHelp 8.0.2.208 and generate WebHelp. I've tried searching the forum for this problem and have come up empty; I'm sorry if I missed it.
We are tying to help our users use the Help topics and are running into a problem with finding the best way to search for a word with an apostrophe. I understand that the system disregards apostrophes but am not clear exactly how to tell our users to enter key phrases.
For instance, a user may want to search for Alysa's Law. If they enter:
Alysa's Law, the search results bring up everything that contains s Law, s, or Law (I see this with the highlight on).
Alysas Law, the search results bring up all incidents of Law or Alysa.
"Alysas Law", the search results in No Topics Found.
"Alysa's Law", the search results in No Topics Found.
Alysa, the search results in No Topics Found.
"Alysa", the search results in No Topics Found.
Alysa's, the search results bring up every letter s.
Has anyone else run into this? Is it a bug? Is there something I can do in creating the Help files that will alleviate this? What would you see as the best recommendation we can give our users when searching for something like this?

Yes, it can. Notice that if you use the easiest output of JavaScript, that feature is not even available (nor is exact phrase searching).
As to the apostrophe, you can use that and other punctuation marks as "join" characters in Zoom (we use these because our software uses a lot of dots, underscores, hash signs, etc. However, If you have "joined" a term such as "Ayla's" a user entry of "Ayla" will return no result.
Actually, whether you use the RH search or Zoom, you'd be best to encourage your users to use the asterisk (*) wild card to pick up all instances of a root (Ayla*).
Another plus for using Zoom is that we are adding search access to server-side class libraries. These libraries, which are not included in the merged WebHelp doc set, are maintained by the developers and added during the build process. However, I'm able to include a copy of the folders and include them in the Zoom run.

Using an apostrophe in a substitution variable

Hello, I have a simple sql plus script which sets a substitution variable and then uses this in an INSERT statement to insert the value of the variable into a database table.
For example:
DEFINE TEXT = 'For full details see PQPs website'
insert into CONSTS(PARAMETER, VALUE, TYPE) values ('admin.marketing.website', '&TEXT1', 'ADMIN');
That's all fine and dandy.
However, I want to put a possessive apostrophe in PQPs, i.e. PQP's but can't find a way that lets me do it and I've tried everything I can think of.
Using the escape character \ doesn't work
i.e.
set escape \
DEFINE TEXT = 'For full details see PQP\'s website'
I just get the string 'For full details see PQP\'
Also using two apostrophes doesn't work either
i.e.
DEFINE TEXT = 'For full details see PQP''s website'
I get the error "ORA-01756: quoted string not properly terminated"
when I try and insert into the database.
I've tried surrounding the value in double quotes etc. and everything I can think of but for the life of me I can't get a string containing an apostrophe into the database using a substitution variable. It must be possible though, isn't it?

Using An Apostrophe In Site Name

Can I use an apostrophe in my site name such as (Tom'sPlace)? Iknow not to have a space in the name but not sure about an apostrophe.

What you can use depends on your host. But I would always advise not using spaces or punctuation and make your site name as short as possible, like "tp" or something, to shorten and simplify your url's.

My macbook pro (using lion os) can't search files and folders on external hard drive! How can i solve it?

When i used Snow leopard, i can search every files and folders on my external hard drive (NTFS). But when i upgraded to lion OS, sportlight didn't index files on exteranal hard drive and i can't search everything on external hard drive whatever i type in the search box! I also check the Finder preference and select when performing a search to "Search the current folder" ! How can i solve this problem! Please help me if you know!

LOve Firefox but it's annoying that if I'm using a search engine (I use lots of subscription legal search databases), when I press the back button all the data I entered in the search boxes has disappeared. I'm sure Firefox didn't use to do that?

How to change the search provider when using the Firefox Home Button Search feature?

In Firefox itself I have configured duckduckgo as my default search provider.
But when I use the Firefox Home Button Search it is always set to google and I do not see any option to change that?
I like the Firefox Home Button Search (or whatever it's called) otherwise, but it's annoying that it does not use the default from Firefox.
I use the Google Now Launcher.

Can't use any apostrophes in mail since switching to Mavericks OS X!!!!

Someone please help me!! It's driving me crazy. Every time I try and use an apostrophe, the cursor either moves back a space and then carries the next letter on or it refuses to add a space when I hit the space bar and two words get stuck together (I end up having to hit the space bar twice to move it along). My language is set to US English with no other languages as options. This only happens in mail, no other programs. Anyone else having this problem??? Solutions?

I had this problem too -- and blamed it on Yosemite --- but I have (I hope) made the problem go away. I went to PREFERENCE >> KEYBOARD >>> SHORTCUTS and noticed that there was a yellow warning symbol next to the keyboard sidebar menu choice. Message was that I had a conflict ("Shortcut used by another action"). I toggled the checkbox ( for ^F8) on and off -- and lo and behold... my MAIL apostrophe problem has gone away -- at least for now.

I have wikopedia where google used to be for my searches. how do i change it ?

to the right of where the url is i have a wikopedia search box. i used to have a google search box. not sure how it changed, can you let me know how to change it back?

Using CTRL-SHIFT-F for searches, can the cursor please be in the search window by default?

I regularly use CTRL-SHIFT-F to search particular folders (usually the Inbox) for a text string. When the search screen comes up, I sometimes start typing the text string, assuming that naturally the cursor's default position is in the search window. After all, that's the point, isn't it? But of course that's not true so I have to stop typing, use the mouse to move the cursor to where it belongs, and start typing again. This is only moderately annoying, but I have the feeling that it's only moderately difficult to fix, too.
Any chance of that happening?

Change the command line /: to some paragraph format PH or line feed /.

Also why are you passing the text elemnt to internal table first using READ_TEXT. It can be directly done with INCLUDE Command.

What is the method/algorithm used by Diadem for peak search?

Can you please let me know what method/algorithm is used by Diadem for peak search? Please note I am familier with peak search function in Diadem but I need to know the theory/algorithem that it uses to find the peaks.

"Using the Filter HUD to Search for Referenced Files" (and "Locate Referenced Files")

I am trying to follow the Help Documentation item "Using the Filter HUD to Search for Referenced Master" (not sure if there is a way to post a URL to this) and I am not seeing what it is telling me to do.
I am going to Edit > Find and it is telling me to "Click the Filter HUD button beside the search field in the Browser". Is this referring to a browser in the Aperture UI or is this in the Filter HUD display? I am not finding this.
Also, it saying that in the Filter HUD I should "choose File Status from the Add Filter pop-up menu, and select the 'File Status' checkbox." and I am not seeing this either. Does anyone know where this is at?
Lastly, I see that there is a command called File > Locate Referenced Files and when I run this I get a "No Referenced Files in the /current/ selection. I have realized that I don't quite understand whether I am running this search for a specific Project and/or whether I have to make a specific selection in the left hand pane when I run a FILTER HUD or whether this automatically defaults to search the whole database. Does it matter what I have selected in the current Browser View when I run either of these commands?

1. Just copy and paste the URL from the on-line User Manual. Very helpful. Are you on this page?

The instructions specify ONE of the following. Your question indicates to me that you are trying to do both.

4. The command -- like all commands? -- works on the currently selected Images. On the same page in the User Manual it says:

When I use an apostrophe in mail

When I use an apostrophe in mail it jumps to the next line and I have to manually place it back where I planned to use it.

It could be a font issue.
Consider this:
Mavericks mail cursor jumps around when typing ... | Apple Support ...

I'm sure this has been answered previously, but my searches came up empty....
Is there any way to use Quickview from within Spotlight search results? I'd like to be able to do a Spotlight search and hit the space bar for a quick Quickview look before actually launching the program. I'm guessing this isn't possible, but thought I'd ask...

Duh...I meant Quick Look. Sorry about that.
In any event, pressing the space bar in Spotlight just puts a space in the Spotlight search box - it doesn't open a Quick view of the highlighted item...

How to use Import parameters of a search help

Could you please tell me how to use import & export parameters of a search help in the report.

Hi,
Import parameters are imported from the selection screen of the report into the search help and then these are used to query in the search help.
For example
case 1.
parameters : p_carrid like sflight-carrid.
parameters : p_connid like sflight-connid.
the search help that is used in the above condition is
SFLIGHT.
And the selection method is SFLIGHT in this search help.
( to check which search help is used go to se11 display the table and put your cursor on the field and in the menu for goto--> search help.)
so when you do an F4 on connid it looks for a field which is declared like SFLIGHT-CARRID ( and the value entered in it) since the SFLIGHT-CARRRID is an import parameter in the search help, and queries the database where the value is equal to the p_carrid which is declared like SFLIGHT-CARRID and gets only data which is equal to carrid
case 2.
parameters : p_carrid like SCARR-carrid.
parameters : p_connid like sflight-connid.
In this case the system will fetch all the data.
since there is no parameter for SFLIGHT-CARRID on the selection screen it would get all the data from SFLIGHT.
