Using annotation processor as a query tool

Is it possible to use Annotation Processor as tool for querying over a set of .java files as well as .class files in jars/zips/folder? For example, given a set of source folders and jars/zips/folders containing class files I want write a queries like:
- list all classes that extend javax.swing.JComponent
- list all methods that returm javax.swing.JComponent
- list all methods that take javax.swing.JComponent as a parameter

However, there is no built-in support for enumerating all the types in a given set of jar/zip/folders. If this list can be generated, those types can be passed as the initial inputs to the tool. If you are using apt, in Tiger update 1 and later the -XclassesAsDecls flag allows type names to be given as input. This capability is available out of the box with JSR 269 in the JDK 6 javac.
- list all classes that extend
javax.swing.JComponent
- list all methods that returm
javax.swing.JComponent
- list all methods that take javax.swing.JComponent
as a parameterAll of these queries can be written using the model provided by the annotation processing frameworks.

    Ok. I disabled hardware acceleration. The only extension is the McAfee Scriptscan for Firefox 15.1.0, which was already disabled. I then disabled all plugins (Acrobat, Google Update, Intel Identity Protection (2x), Java Deployment Toolkit, Java Platform, MS Office 2013, Quicktime, Shockwave, Silverlight), which were all up to date.
    Normal or safe mode still has same result. No startup, no option button and no customize.

  • Use 3.5 Query Tool with 2004S

    We just upgraded form 3.5 to BI 2004S.  We do not have the portal running, and may not have it running any time soon.
    However, we are able to use our 3.5 query tools (Query Designer and Web Application Designer) with 2004S.
    Is anyone else successfully running this configuration, and most importantly, is it a configuration suppported by SAP?
    Thanks very much.

    Hi Bjorn,
    This is supported by SAP. See Prakash's reply here:

    When i change my source Binary Format to jdk6 it runs without errors. What can i do for this without downgrading jdk version?

    I resolved my problem. The issue was the version of EclipseLink that I had specified in my pom.xml. Version 2.0.1 has an issue with the meta-model generation and, in fact, I wanted to be using version 2.1.1. Once I changed to 2.1.1 everything compiled correctly.

    How to specify a mapping file using annotations?
    Thanks
    tdeer

    We you codegen a Policy annotated WSDL, the policies are get included in the stub. Hence you don't have to specify a separate Policy file.
    But if you need to use a separate policy then you need to set them in the AxisDescription object that you use in the ServiceClient and OperationClient.
    e.g.
    ServiceClient serviceClient = new ServiceClient();
    OperationClient operationClient = serviceClient
    .createClient(ServiceClient.ANON_OUT_IN_OP);
    FileInputStream fis = new FileInputStream("path-to-policy.xml");
    Policy servicePolicy = PolicyEngine.getPolicy(fis);
    AxisService axisService = serviceClient.getAxisService();
    axisService.getPolicyInclude().setPolicy(servicePolicy);
    If you need more information please repost this to [email protected] with a [AXIS2] subject prefix.

  • Not able to debug annotation processor

    Until now, I never had to debug javac. Now that I am writing an annotation processor that gets called as part of javac, I felt the need to debug javac. I have still not found a way to do so. I tried passing the standard JVM debug options using -J option, but in vain. If you know how to attach a debugger to javac, please let me know.
    Thanks,
    Sahoo

    Sahoo,
    You can use the JSR-199 (IIRC) API to call the compiler programatically, which means you can call the compiler from a unit test, which means you just set a breakpoint in your processor, debug your test and the compiler runs and calls the processor and stops on the break point. Hickory has a package of testing tools. The core class there is Compilation which is a facade to the javax.tools API and an implementation of an in memory file manager. I have used this to have a processor load "files" via the class loader.getResource() mechanism so that should work for you as well.
    See https://hickory.dev.java.net/nonav/apidocs/index.html?net/java/dev/hickory/testing/Compilation.html
    If you browse the hickory source for the tests you'll find lots of examples.

  • No-build Annotation Processor

    I want to add custom annotations, to be processed before compilation, and without actually compiling the annotated source code. The idea is that custom annotations will be present on the methods of a JUnit test class, but if I were to attempt to compile that JUnit class, compilation would fail, because the class being testing is not yet present at the time I need to do the annotation processing. That is, I will have the source code for the JUnit class loaded into memory in a String, but not the source code for class it will test. I want to take advantage of JSR-269 to read off my custom annotations and their property values from the source code, without actually doing a compilation.
    The documentation on JSR 269 seems to imply that annotation processors are always hooks into the java compiler, however, so I cannot figure out how to do "naked" annotation processing that can be executed without firing up javac or the JSR-199 programmatic java compiler, since neither seems to have the capability to run only the annotation processor(s), but not the compiler itself. Needless to say, it is also out of the question to use the reflection library, since I cannot load the JUnit class without having first compiled it. It is also not possible to set up a mock object to trick the JUnit class into compiling properly, because the JUnit class's source code will be supplied from an external user, whom I do not want to force to write a mock object.
    I never used apt, but it seems like what I want is a programmatic (i.e., Java code rather than an external command-line tool) version of apt -nocompile.

    In javac, the "-proc:only" option can be used to just do annotation processing without compilation; details in
    http://java.sun.com/javase/6/docs/technotes/tools/solaris/javac.html
    This option can also be passed when invoking the compiler programmatically via JSR 199/javax.tools.*

  • Is it too much to ask MS for a simple ad-hoc query tool for end users?

    Hello
    This is a general MS BI topic and not specific to Power Query, but I couldn't find a more suitable general forum for it.
    This posting is the result of the frustration I have with MS BI stack, whereby a simple ad-hoc drag and drop query tool to get the data in a table format (preferably from a relational
    data source) is missing, something that other big vendors have, such as SAP Business Objects Universe and the associated tools. The deprecated SSRS Report model and SMDL was the closest MS ever got to this functionality (although that had some limitations
    too), which unfortunately is dead now in favour of all sort of "Power" tools that basically can’t deliver the same functionality.
    The requirement is pretty simple: provide users with a tool that they can drag and drop fields from different entities in a data model without having to worry about entity relationships and
    apply necessary filters and get the data out in Excel or CSV, no fancy (or even simple) aggregation or formatting is required, and users should only see the rows they are authorized to see, i.e. row level security (RLS) of data.
    Let’s see what we have at our disposal from MS BI:
    From the modeling perspective, we have relational models in the database that support RLS with views, but obviously cannot maintain PK-FK relationships in the database model between views. Other
    models are .Net Entity Data model Framework model exposed as OData, and SSAS tabular, SSAS PowerPivot, SSAS multidimensional, which you can find a good comparison of their features here:
    http://www.sqlchick.com/entries/2012/3/4/decisions-powerpivot-ssas-tabular -or-ssas-multidimensional-m.html
    From the tools perspective we have:
    Power Query on top of a relational database (SQL Server): Can connect to relational databases easily, generated queries are optimal, detects relationships with entities, but only when entities
    are tables and have PK-FK relationships enforced in the database. So can’t detect relationships with views and hence can’t enforce RLS, so this is not an option unless users keep joining entities, which is not a desirable option either.
    Power Query on top of an OData: Works well except that queries generated for multiple entity expansion are terrible (look here for more details:
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/7a8b8e52-d3a9-42af-bc52-9d5459c00529/odata-multilevel-expand-query-issue?forum=powerquery). In addition all filtering and projections are done at client side, so even if you want 1 row out of 1 million, all
    rows are brought over to Excel before filtered. Overall this results in unacceptable performance even for small sized data.
    Power Query on top of a tabular model: Doesn’t support that type of data source yet (http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/ebcccb5e-7058-4046-917d-3d7fcf60cbdc/tabular-model-as-data-source-for-power-query?forum=powerquery).
    Even if it did, tabular models don’t support Many-to-Many relationships out of the box and not sure if there are plans to support tabular models in Direct Query mode in Power Query to take care of RLS.
    Excel on top of tabular models or multidimensional models: The tabular model should not be in Direct Query mode and you only get to use PivotTable to query the model. PivotTables are not famous
    for generating optimal MDX queries, so performance is not going to be acceptable if you are dealing with large dimensions, especially large junk and degenerate dimensions. You can use drilltrough to get details of a measure, but you have to specify the columns
    for a drilltrough action upfront, no flexibility for users to select what they want to see.
    PowerPivot on top of relational databases: The query designer cannot detect relationships between views, so users have to perform manual joins, not an option.
    PowerPivot on top of a multidimensional or tabular model: The query designer doesn’t generate optimal MDX queries by drag and drop. Especially there doesn’t seem to be a way to add related
    attributes of a dimension attribute to the query without cross joins which results in poor performance on large dimensions. Other issues found here
    http://sqlblog.com/blogs/marco_russo/archive/2010/08/24/using-ssas-2005-2008-as-powerpivot-data-source-query-designer.aspx. In addition the result set has ugly column names and issues with data types, such as interpreting numeric data types as Text, and
    there’s no straight forward way of getting the data from PowerPivot directly to Excel. The user either has to do a copy/paste (which doesn’t work on large datasets) or create a pivot table, bring the measure, and drillthrough the measure to get the details
    in table format.
    PowerPivot with OData: Treats every entity as a separate table to import, not suitable for our use case.
    Report Builder and SSRS on top of relational, multidimensional or tabular model: Given the query designer is the same as PowerPivot, it has similar issues. In addition, there are 4 more steps
    from designing a query to generating an Excel or CSV output, not an option.
    PowerView: Works against tabular and multidimensional models, but there’s no way of exporting data to Excel sheet. Besides the add-in is not available for Excel 2010.
    Good old MS-Access: Link to tables and views through ODBC, create relationships between entities and give each user a copy of that Access database to create their queries, and deal with the
    nightmares of updates to the model and distribution of new models to the users! Did I mention Access as an option?
    So there you go, 10 options, none of which can deal with a seemingly simple use case sufficiently. At the moment, the best among them appears to be option 6 against a heavily optimized OLAP
    cube, and perhaps #3 when/if Power Query support for tabular models in direct query mode arrives. Perhaps I am missing something very obvious, and would like someone to enlighten me here.
    Thanks
    MR

    Hi, as far as I can infer, that term means it's not loading any resources until needed, opposite of this...
    -bind_at_load
                     Sets a bit in the mach header of the resulting binary which tells dyld to bind all symbols                when the binary is loaded, rather than lazily.
    https://developer.apple.com/library/mac/documentation/Darwin/Reference/ManPages/ man1/ld.1.html
    Load resources lazily.
    You should never load a resource file until it is actually needed. Prefetching resource files may seem like a way to save time, but this practice actually slows down your app right away. In addition, if you end up not using the resource, loading it wastes memory for no good purpose.
    http://developer.apple.com/library/ios/#documentation/iphone/conceptual/iphoneos programmingguide/PerformanceTuning/PerformanceTuning.html
    And, higher OS versionsare even worse with Bonjour/mDNSResponder, but might see this...

  • How can I get the working directory of a project from an Annotation Processor in Java

    I am writing an annotation processor in Java and in this annotation processor I want to be able to find a file in the Project hierarchy of the project on which I am using this annotation processor. Through the annotation I can pass in the path of the file I am searching for relative to the project root but i cannot retrieve the project's working directory.
    Let's say that the processor is MyCustomProcessor and I am using it on the project MyProject. I want to be able to access(read) a file (a properties file) from the project structure of MyProject from the "process" method of MyCustomProcessor.
    I have read this link Eclipse - Annotation processor, get project path but when I use their solution I get a null returned from the StandardJavaFileManager.getLocation(StandardLocation.SOURCE_PATH) call.
    Some more details regarding the implementation:
    MyAnnotationProcessor:

  • Applying an annotation processor on its own source code

    Hi,
    I am developing a larger application and for a certain low level implementation problem, I came up with the idea of tagging some classes with own annotations and use an annotation processor to collect these classes and store the list of them somehow. I am a complete newbie in respect to this, and as my first attempts failed, I wonder whether it is really possible to include the implementation of Processor/AbstractProcessor (with the respective annotations on its own) in the same source code as the annotations it shall process and have the compiler to find and run the processor during the compilation or whether it is mandatory to create a separate jar file with the META-INF data in order to get it work.
    Thanks for any response.

    KlausYou can specify a particular processor to run using javac's "-processor" option without creating a jar file for the processor. However, in addition to source files, annotation processors can also run on class files so it would be possible for your annotation processor to be a post-pass after the build otherwise completes.

  • A brand new query tool is out on beta, we need feedback, so you get a free copy

    We at Nob Hill Software are working on a new query tool:
    http://www.nobhillsoft.com/MarieAlix.aspx?HeardVia=ptut
    You can read all about it on the above web page, but basically, its a very ambitious project to create what we call 'the query tool to end all query tools': everything you ever wanted, desired, dreamed about in a query tool, and then some.
    For that, we need people who will download it, use it, tell us what they think, what's good and what's not, and what they would like to see in the future. This program has been going on since winter 2009, and so far we've made plenty of DB users happy - but we could always use more feedback. No catches, no tricks, we will never ask for money or anything - just to know what you want, so we can put it in. When the tool is finally out on production, all those who contributed will have it for free - for life.
    If you're interested, just download and start working. Then email us your feedback, which can be anything from a single sentence to entire pages.
    Contact us through the site if you have any questions!
    Thank You

    Something to think about eh?
    An apology would be the appropriate thing for your next, and last, post.

  • Code Generation Using Annotation Processing

    I'm trying to figure out how to do something like thus:
    Given this source file with the following custom annotation:
    @Composite(interfaces=Mammal.class)
    public class Dog implements IComposite
    };I want to create an annotation processor that inserts a data member, implementation into the constructor, and a public method into this class:
    @Composite(interfaces=Mammal.class)
    public class Dog implements IComposite
        IComponent[] m_inner_objects;
        public Dog()
            m_inner_objects = new IComponent[1];
            m_inner_objects[0] = Mammal.compose(this);
        public IComponent getComponent(Class<?> inInterface)
            if(inInterface == Mammal.class)
               return m_inner_objects[0];
            return null;
    };Are all three tasks possible? Are any of the three tasks possible? If yes to any of my questions how would I go about this. I've gotten just past the 'hello world' state in writing a custom annotation processor so I just need the more advanced knowledge of how to actually affect the code once I'm actively processing it.
    cheers,

    I can get the CompilationUnitTree. Yes
    Then I can modify it with Compiler Tree API.Really?
    Where is a pitfall in my train of thought?The Tree API is an immutable API, you can look, but not modify.Here is example of modifying compiler tree.
    http://svntrac.hanhuy.com/repo/browser/hanhuy/trunk/panno/src/com/hanhuy/panno/processing/PropertyProcessor.java
    Also, the javax.annotation.processing.Filer will not allow you to overwrite an existing compilation unit, and you must use the Filer if you wish a generated class to be compiled in the next round.I don't use Filer class. Method writeCompilationUnit that I've wrote works well for existed files.
    There is a fundamental principle of java that the same program always has the same meaning. See the 3rd paragraph of the Preface to the first edition of the Java Language Spec . >This is the reason why you can't modify existing source code.We can mark generated methods in a class with @Generated annotation.

    Step-by-step guide for creating ABAP query
    http://www.sappoint.com/abap/ab4query.pdf
    ABAP query is mostly used by functional consultants.
    SAP Query
    Purpose
    The SAP Query application is used to create lists not already contained in the SAP standard system. It has been designed for users with little or no knowledge of the SAP programming language ABAP. SAP Query offers users a broad range of ways to define reporting programs and create different types of reports such as basic lists, statistics, and ranked lists.
    Features
    SAP Query's range of functions corresponds to the classical reporting functions available in the system. Requirements in this area such as list, statistic, or ranked list creation can be met using queries.
    All the data required by users for their lists can be selected from any SAP table created by the customer.
    To define a report, you first have to enter individual texts, such as titles, and select the fields and options which determine the report layout. Then you can edit list display in WYSIWYG mode whenever you want using drag and drop and the other toolbox functions available.
    ABAP Query, as far as I Believe, is the use of select statements in the ABAP Programming. This needs a knowledge of Open SQL commands like Select,UPdtae, Modify etc. This has to be done only by someone who has a little bit of ABAP experience.
    To sum up, SAP queries are readymade programs given by SAP, which the user can use making slight modification like the slection texts, the tables from which the data is to be retrieved and the format in which the data is to be displayed.ABAP queries become imperative when there is no such SAP query existing and also when there is a lot of customizing involved to use a SAP Query directly
    use either SQ02 ans SQ01
    or SQVI tr code

  • Modified Historic Accounting query tools/Inflation Accounting tool for Assets

    Modified Historic Accounting query tools/Inflation Accounting tool for Assets
    Does anybody know if Oracle provide such a product, or is it a third party solution that interfaces with Oracle? If you have any info on this, I would be grateful
    Thanks

    First check if you can add the function associated with the tools option to "responsibility exclusions" using sysadmin.
    See http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/A60725_05/html/comnls/us/fnd/fndscrsp.htm
    If not, then consider writing a personalization (one for each tools>menu option)
    The personalization will fire on the "special7" (or whichever the number is).
    In the actions, you should display an error message that says "This option is not available". That will prevent the user from opening the form.
    Hope this helps
