  • HOw to configure iSCSI remote boot on a SUN Server

For virtualization I need to use iSCSI remote boot from the SUN Server X2270 to a Disc Storage!
I've installed the "Intel® Gigabit ET Dual-Port Server Adapters" into this server.
During the boot time, I didn't see the message "Press <Ctrl-D> to ru setup..." or any message about "Intel iSCSI Remote Boot"! It is like the machine didn't see this Intel Card...
I didn't known any more what to do? as anyone an Idea about this problem?
    Regards,
    nm

Log into the global zone and run :
    # shutdown -y -g0 -is
This should bring down the global zone to su mode and halt the other zones (notice Halt)
However I believe there is a bug presently where this does not always happen and you are still able to telnet to the local zones.
Local zone admin could always run zoneadm -z <zone-name> halt on each zone (notice halt not single-user).
Once global zone in in single-user mode install the patch as normal, when the global is done it will bring up each local zone to single-user mode to add the patch too.
118833-36 may need patch add and -G option as this patch also has been experiencing some issues, in which case I believe you would need to do the patch add process on each zone manually
Once the global zone is brought back up again it should bring up the local zones as well.
Let us know if you experience the locals not being halted as mentioned above and need to do it manually.

  • Using Linux/Red Hat/Intel for Sun ONE/Java Directory Server

Anybody have any experience of this? We're looking to get off AIX, and Total Cost of Ownership for using Solaris/Sparc versus Linux/Intel is very similar.
The decider will be if no-one is using Linux as a platform for Sun ONE/Java Directory Server....
    Any feedback would be appreciated....

We run Directory 5.1 in production on Solaris/Sparc, but I've tried it with sucess on Red Hat 7.2 on Intel. We have not been able to get it to work on Red Hat Enterprise 2.1 or 3.0. The main problem has been that the administration server fails on startup. Obvious the lack of support for the latest enterprise class Linux is a huge drawback. At this point I've decided to stay on Solaris/Sparc until Red Hat comes out with its own release of Netscape's Directory. When that happens we're going to evaluate whether to move the whole environment to Red Hat. The Sun and Netscape servers are almost identical in terms of features and performance, but having an open source version that can run on less expensive hardware would be a terrific win for us.

  • Problem in connecting remote server using Applet?

    Hello everybody,
I am facing problem in connecting to remote server using Applet in browser. I am using JDK 1.5.0_12 and running the application on apache 2.2.
Firstly I have tried with simple jar file which could not connect to remote server and throws permission denied than now I am trying with signed jar file but also not working. I have changed the java.policy file of JDK in server with grant all Permission but also it throws "java.security.AccessControlException:access denied(java.net.SocketPermission 127.0.0.1:1521 connect, resolve)".
Can anybody suggest me how to solve this problem?
    Thank You.

Creating a client server program using Applets for the clients.
Having problems distrubting the message from client to client
    using ObjectOutputStreams/ObjectInputSteams.
I can connect each client to simple server and respond with by writting

    Cheers poop for your reply
I never explained the problem properly. What it is I am trying to set up a Client Server program using Applets as the clients GUI. The problem is broadcasting the message to multiply client connnection(s).
Below is code, each client can connect and send message to the server. The problems is broadcasting the message to every client connection. The every client can input a message but only the last connected client can receive the message?????? Thanks in advance..

  • Using applet to select a part of an image and then save it

    Hi ,
I want to use applet to select a part of an image and then save that particular selected part to a server. can anyone provide me a code for this. I have found codes on the sun site which help in uploading an image but I am having trouble in trying to select a part of the image.

Sorry to get back to you so late, but I was away from my computer this afternoon.
I'm not sure just what you are after. I do see that you have positioned the tree on the labels. I went to the web site for the label company, and their instructions are not too helplful.
    http://www.pixentral.com/show.php?picture=15sBkl9OZE9xSkHoLMxgwjTFv2VCg1
I changed the white portion of 1 label to black - - this can be any color. To do this use the magic wand tool, tolerance=10 worked for me, then go to Edit>fill selection.

  • Applet does not load on app server when Free Design Layout

    Hi,
I have to embed a an applet in a webpage of an web application. Before I go on to anything.. let me first tell you, I am using Netbeans 6.0
    As shown in the tuorial:
    1. I first made the "Applet" source say HelloApplet. java. After compiling and running it I get the HelloApplet.jar.
    2. I created a WebApplication and then from the properties -> packaging -> I "Add Project" HelloApplet.jar.
    3. Then I a webpage I "embeded" the applet.
    4. I run the web app and the applet gets loaded and everything is just fine.
But before I go on I must tell you that the applet was designed in Null Layout. Now I edited the applet source once again and changed the layout to Free Design Layout*. ( this is available from Netbeans..on the HelloApplet.java .. go to the design view.. right click on the form and from the context menu you can change the layout to FreeDesign or whatever you might want).
When I expand the "Libraries" node I see the that the library Swing Layout Extensions - swing-layout-1.0.3.jar has been added.
When I "run" the "HelloApplet.java" file, the applet is shown in the appletviewer. No problems with that.
    But!
When I try to Clean & Build and Run the WebApplication, the applet does not get loaded. On inspecting the java console I see the following error:
    java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: org/jdesktop/layout/GroupLayout$Group
    at java.lang.Class.getDeclaredConstructors0(Native Method)
    at java.lang.Class.privateGetDeclaredConstructors(Unknown Source)
    at java.lang.Class.getConstructor0(Unknown Source)

    at java.lang.Class.newInstance(Unknown Source)
    at sun.applet.AppletPanel.createApplet(Unknown Source)
    at sun.plugin.AppletViewer.createApplet(Unknown Source)
    at sun.applet.AppletPanel.runLoader(Unknown Source)
    at sun.applet.AppletPanel.run(Unknown Source)
    at java.lang.Thread.run(Unknown Source)
    Caused by: java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: org.jdesktop.layout.GroupLayout$Group
    at sun.applet.AppletClassLoader.findClass(Unknown Source)
    at java.lang.ClassLoader.loadClass(Unknown Source)
    at sun.applet.AppletClassLoader.loadClass(Unknown Source)
    at java.lang.ClassLoader.loadClass(Unknown Source)
    at java.lang.ClassLoader.loadClassInternal(Unknown Source)
... 10 moreIt clearly shows that the Free Design Layout has something to do with the GroupLayout which can be found by expanding the "Swing Layout Extensions - swing-layout-1.0.3.jar". Now when the HelloApplet.jar is created only the HelloApplet.class file gets included together with some other data but NOT the swing extensions. Hence when I run the web app the class file looks for the GroupLayout.class definition but can find it in the jar as its not included when the HelloApplet.jar is created.
But with null layout there isint a problem because null layout takes the definitions from the JRE on the machine.. and so it runs without a hitch.
My Question is : How can I run the applet with Free Design Layout? or is it possible to package the swing layout extensions in the HelloApplet.jar?<</u>
    Thanks for all your replies.
    Cheers.

i want access to database in page html with use AppletFirst of all, that doesn't make any sence, if it's a single user application make it a java
    application.
If it's a multu user application make it a client server where the web server connects to
the database when the client requests a connection.
When the applet connects to the database any client running the applet needs a
connection to your database server, the client needs the jdbc drivers and the client's
jre needs to find them (set classpath with runtime parameters or set the classes in
javadir lib). After that the client needs to change thiere java.policy or you need to sign
    the applet.
Needless to say that's a lot of trouble. And if you go through all that trouble the client
can de-compile your applet and see the connection to the database server and the
server name. Now the client can destroy your database or worse see date it is not
    supposed to see.
Since you are a brainless ... who needed to post this question 6 times did not respond to any of my post in your other threads I can just say good luck with your problem.

  • How to access a file using Applet?

    Dear all,
I would like to use an applet to read and display information on server side, but there still a fileaccess permission denied, what can i do?
The idea of the web service is like that::
1.User connected to a webpage, than they can choose the file and then,
    2. the file name will be transfered into the applet (using applet><param> tags etc.)
    3. THe applet read and displays information.
In addition, the file is placed at server side, should I set the "./hotjava/ properties "

Maybe you should sign your applet.

Note that 95% of the jobs in Java seem to have gone primarily 'server side' - from my viewing of job ads on the east coast of Australia. It is more 'client side' development in general (and media handling in particular) that Sun has had any lapse in.
One thing that has significantly affected applet deployment rates (if I have anything to do with it) is that a lot of deployers choose a JFrame launched using [Java Web Start|http://java.sun.com/javase/technologies/desktop/javawebstart/index.jsp] in preference to an applet embedded in a web page.
As to applet advances specifically, there were new (JWS based) functionalities introduced in 1.6.0_10 and new security constraints added in 1.6.0_19, so applets are certainly not a forgotten technology in the view of Sun/Oracle.
..Do any 'major' websites still use them? Is there a list of such websites?Your Google is as close as mine. Report back.
Also, have applets been replaced by JavaFX?No.

I hope I'm making at least some sense here. The classes extending Applet are to be shown in a web browser, embedded on the page. A class with nothing but a main-method would traditionally be a command-line application. Extending Frame results in a stand-alone application with a visible window, a GUI. They are all correct, it just depends on what you want to create.

  • Can we use applets as user interfaces with sockets, RMI and J2EE

    Dear Sir or Madam,
Since I am a TA for software architecture class, some one ask me the following question: I think the answer is "No" based on the document on http://java.sun.com/sfaq/
How I answer the quesions? Looking forward your help!!!
1.You may have 2 applets and 2 html files. One applet with one html file may stay at a client PC and run on this PC, and the other applet with the other html file may stay at a server PC and run on this PC. In this case, all the applets are run locally.
2.Could applets works with sockets, RMI and J2EE?
3.Can we use applets as user interfaces with sockets, RMI and J2EE?
    Thank you very much!
    Best regards,
    Jing

The scenario you paint doesn't quite make sense. The "server PC" wouldn't be running an applet, normally, since applets are by definition in a web browser page, and most likely involve user interaction, and "server processes" generally are done without user interaction.
The security rules around applets are that -- by default -- applets can connect with sockets ONLY to the server from whence the applet was loaded. RMI uses sockets (J2EE is too broad a spec) and hence RMI calls would also be limited to the server from whence the applet was loaded. Within that limitation, an applet could open all the sockets it wants, so long as they are all on the server from whence the applet was loaded.
If you want two applets on two different systems to communicate with each other, the simplest way is to have them rendevous through a server process on the server(s) from whence each applet was loaded. Maybe it's PC-a <-> server-a <-> server-b <-> PC-b ...? Or maybe PC-a and PC-b both are talking to the same server.
The limitation is rooted in the security subsystem. You can specify a policy file and override anything in the security subsystem. That does mean signing the applet and then cajoling the user into agreeing to grant greater levels of security than the default. In such a case you can open sockets more broadly and then PC-a could talk directly to PC-b without going through any servers.

  • How can I use applet to get the desktop image of client

    hi,I have a question to ask u.
How can I use applet to get the desktop image of client? Now I develop a web application and want user in the client to get his current image of the screen. And then save as a picture of jpeg format ,then upload it to the server?
I have done an application to get the screen image and do upload file to server in a servlet with the http protocal.

Since the desktop image is on the client's local hard drive, you'll need to look at trusted applets first.

    java.security.AccessControlException: access denied (java.io.FilePermission
<<ALL FILES>> execute)This message tells you that the applet does not have permission to access/execute files. Access may be granted by either signing the applet, which allows the user to grant (or not grant) the access when running the applet, or by adding the necessary permission file to the user's computer.

    Hi:
After some days and several test I discover the solution.
I'm using Unicodes in the messages text (like \u00e9, \u00e1) and due to a typing mistake, in just a word the sequence \u00es appears instead of \u00e9.
It seems \u00es is not a valid Unicode code and that was the cause of this particular error.
I think this kind of message error must change depending which web server is used.
As i said, i'm using the embedded oc4j server.
    Bye.
