Using Application Roles - SQL Server 2005
We want to use Coldfusion MX 7.02 connected to SQL Server
2005.
We'd like our Coldfusion Application to connect to SQL Server
2005 with the minimal security necessary and then set the the
access using an Application Role. How can you determine if the
Application Role is already set because you shouldn't set it
repeatedly?
Thanks.
Based on the error message it appears to be having a Shared Services issue. Verify that the "ADMIN" account is being used for the HSS connection and that you are using "ADMIN" to create the application and see if the same error is returned.

Hi,
we are getting this error when creating a FDM application on SQL Server 2005
Error: EPMCSS-07003: Failed to validate identity. Invalid identity . Check identity.[SET_ROLES_LIST]
We are using Windows System Integration although we have also tested with sa user.
Any ideas?

Hi,
I am currently working in project where we need to migrate/point batch jobs to SQL server 2005. At this moment they are pointing to Sybase. Batch jobs are in .bat and .exe format. These jobs read in an external file, does some reformatting,
and then loads it into 2 sybase tables. These jobs are auto scheduled through Control-M application.
Any idea please ?
Thanks,

You would need to at least change the connection strings, and how you access SQL Server, but typically code changes are necessary.
You unfortunately don't provide enough details. But it is not as trivial to just 'point' a bunch of jobs to a new target.

What Drivers should I use to access SQL Server 2005 SP2 from Windows Server 2008 64 bit
and yes I do know that is an odd scenario so let me explain
I have just joined a project that is "in flight" where the customer is upgrading a LOT of things at the same time
(some Microsoft, some other supplier: some at the OS level, others at server or services levels)
the current step is replacing some services leaving the back end databases as they are
i.e. SQL Server 2005 SP2
a later step will upgrade the backend data bases which may make more work
What we have now runs on Windows Server 2003 32 bit using the OLEDB drivers
version 2000.86.3959.00
What we want must run on Windows Server 2008 64 bit still using the OLEDB option
which version should I download & try to install?Here are a known list of issues with this configuration with their corresponding workarounds: https://support.microsoft.com/kb/936302/en-us

Creating and Using View Objects on JDev 10g against SQL Server 2005
I'm currently working on this project on Jdeveloper against a SQL Server 2005 DB (I couldn't talk this people to migrate to Oracle... :-( ), and it's the first time I work with JDev against a database other than 10g.
I had no problem making the connection, and I can see the DB in Conections->Databases, but when I create an app. module, and create entities and views and add them to the app. module to access them through the Data Controls, these don't work. I can see the view on the Data Controls, and when I drag them to my jspx page it shows the menu that let's me choose whether I want to create a table, or a selection, or a tree, but once I choose one, it does nothing.
I've search all over the internet and haven't found a solution, so I come to this forum desperate for help, seriously.
Please get in touch; if anyone knows another solution that doesn't involve not using JDev or SQL Server 2005, please let me know, because I basically need to have a few selectonechoice showing some data from a few tables.
Thanks for reading this post, and hope to get help.
Carlos.Hi,
can you run the model in the ADF BC tester ? If this is possible the SQL Server doesn't seem to be the problem. Are you on JDeveloper 10.1.3.3? If not, just get this latest build

Integrating J2EE application with SQL Server Reporting Services
Hello everybody,
I want to integrate a J2EE application with SQL Server 2005 Reporting Services. In fact, it is the first time to be involved in developing an interoperability component between .Net web service and Java application. So I have learned for some time how to pass this challenge. Moreover, I found the following virtual lab is an excellent starting point "MSDN Virtual Lab: Implementing SQL Server Reporting Services with a Java Enterprise Edition (EE) Application" [http://msevents.microsoft.com/CUI/WebCastEventDetails.aspx?EventID=1032315323&EventCategory=3&culture=en-US&CountryCode=US]
After going through the lab, I tried to apply the same code in my machine but I have stuck with the following error:
{color:#ff0000}*; nested exception is:*
org.xml.sax.SAXParseException: Premature end of file.
{color}{color:#333333}I use the following tools:
- Netbeans IDE 6.5
- Java SDK: build 1.6.0_01-b06
- Web Server: Apache Tomcat 6.0
- axis Jars (axis.jar, axis-ant.jar, commons-discovery-0.2.jar, commons-logging-1.0.4.jar, jaxrpc.jar, log4j-1.2.8.jar, saaj.jar, wsdl4j-1.5.1.jar)
- Reporting Tool: SQL Server 2005 Reporting Services
I will be so grateful if someone help me. I am waiting your response

Migration from of database and app from SQL server 2005 to Oracle 10g
Hello Every body,
Lately, I have been requested to migrate one inhouse developed hub application from SQL server 2005 to Oracle 10g. The objective is to move application and also the database to Oracel 10g.
Here is the current platform:
OS Win 2008 64 bit
JDK 1.4.2
JBoss 3.2.5
EJB 2.1
My question is what kind of issues you guys see in above upgrade. As far I know, Schema and Database migration can be done by Oracle workbench. Oracle 10g supports JDK 1.4. Oracle 10g also supports EJB 2.1.
Anything, I need to take into consideration or any risks or problems. I would like to list down all the risks, and accordingly, I am thinking of start the upgrade.
Thanks in advance.
Regards,
Zeeshan QureshiIn general the Java/J2EE application needs work in the following categories:
1. Connection Settings: Use Oracle JDBC drivers, create new data sources, connection pools and what not. Disable AUTOCOMMIT for Oracle JDBC Connections.
2. For EJBs, you should regenerate the entity beans because some object names/column names might have changed in oracle.
3. Any custom SQL that is in use in the EJBs will have to be ported to Oracle just as you would do in stored procedures and other applications.
4. For Java front-ends, if you are using callouts to stored procedures and expecting result sets then they will require some changes. You need to modify the stored procedure call signature to include the REF CURSOR variables and process them.
5. Changes to any SQL Server specific database functions manipulating character/date data will be required.
6. CLOB/BLOB/XML apis are different across databases so if you are using those then focus on them as well.
7. Retreiving Auto/generated keys from database also may need changes from what I have seen.
Hope this helps..
Regards
Prakash

SQL Server 2005 upgrade & migrate to 2012 method
Hi,
The situation is like this:
Currently I have SQL Server 2005 on an old Windows Server 2003. The target is to let SQL Server 2012 on Windows Server 2012 with the databases migrated over. The new server with Windows Server 2012 was prepared.
Originally my plan is to install SQL Server 2005 on the new Windows Sever 2012 first, migrate the database from old server to here, then upgrade SQL Server to 2012. Then found out this method cannot be used due to SQL Server 2005 is not compatible with Windows
Server 2012.
Alternative suggestions are appreciated.SQL Server 2012 supports upgrade from the following versions of SQL Server:
SQL Server 2005 SP4 or later
SQL Server 2008 SP2 or later
SQL Server 2008 R2 SP1 or late
So please make sure that your existing sql server 2005 is upgraded to SP4 or later.
Then best way is use side by side.
Windows Sever 2012 on you new machine and sql server 2012.
Then use side by side method to migrate your old sql 2005 to new version 2012, ( moving backups and restore, logins, jobs, packages, configurations, maintenance plans,
linked server details and more. )
If you use in-place the in case of any issues we cant do anything to bring back the server to old version or fixing the issue may take lot of time. side by side its matter of navigating the connection and changing the connection setting for application and
putting databases for use ( online from single user or may be from online to online )

Crystal Reports 9 and SQL Server 2005 default parameter values
We're using Crystal Reports 9 and upgraded from SQL Server 2000 to SQL Server 2005.
I'm noticing a very weird problem which I wonder if anyone else has experienced (and hopefully found a resolution for). It appears that in using Crystal with SQL Server 2005 stored procedures, if we have default parameter values in the stored procedures, the default parameter values get completely ignored if you pass in a NULL value from Crystal!
For example, if you have a stored procedure that begins like this:
ALTER Procedure [dbo].[StoredProcedure]
@Param1 VarChar(200) = '',
@Param2 VarChar(200) = ''
AS ...
both @Param1 and @Param2 have a default value of an empty string, and therefore should become empty strings if nothing (NULL values) gets passed in for them.
But, like I said, what I'm finding is that with Crystal calling the stored procedure with NULL @Param1 and @Param2 values, they never become empty strings, but rather remain as NULLs.
This was never a problem with SQL 2000.
Very perplexing. Anyone else every experience this?
Thank you.Please ignore my earlier post -- answered my own question.
NULL parameter values do not get replaced by default values in SQL -- that is normal behavior in both SQL 2000 and SQL 2005. Just goes to show, that no many how many years programming experience you have, you can still get tripped up sometimes : ( -
Crystal Report 8.5 with SQL SERVER 2005 problems
Post Author: AREVA
CA Forum: Data Connectivity and SQL
Hi All !We have some problems with Crystal Reports version 8.5 with SQL Server 2005: 1) When we want to generate a report (using data in SQL Server 2005) we have a popup message error : "impossible to loaded pdssql.dll".2) If we want to use SQL Server 2005, which Crystal Reports version we must used ? Is there any restrictions with this connectivity with 8.5 version ?Please, let me known, all informations about SQL Server 2005 and Crystal Report 8.5.Thanks for all !Best regards AnthonyHello Kamlesh,
There is no expectation that the ActiveX viewer (RDC?) from CR8.5 will work in any version of Visual Studio .NET. There is also no expectation that the ActiveX viewer from CR8.5 will work on a machine with a 64 bit operating system.
You're using VS2008. You should migrate to the bundled edition of CR for VS2008 (v10.5), the ReportDocument object, and the .NET Windows form viewer or Web form viewer.

Installation of ODI with SQL Server 2005
Hi
I am trying to install ODI with MS Sql Server 2005.
I created a database in Sql Server & created a user with db_owner rights for logging into the database.
While trying to install Master Repository, i selected Sql Server with following details
Driver: com.microsoft.jdbc.sqlserver.SQLServerDriver
URL: jdbc:microsoft:sqlserver://<myhostname>:1433;SelectMethod=cursor
The repository does not get created giving error:
*com.sunopsis.core.q: java.sql.SQLException: [Microsoft][SQLServer 2000 Driver for JDBC][SQLServer]The incoming tabular data stream (TDS) remote procedure call (RPC) protocol stream is incorrect. Parameter 1 (""): Data type 0x38 is unknown*
Now if i change the URL to jdbc:microsoft:sqlserver://<myhostname>:1433, the repository gets created successfully. But at the time of login into the topology manager using the same Master repository, it again prompts me the same error.
Has anyone faced the same issue?Hi,
You are using SQL server 2005 but trying to connect using the SQL server 2000 connection details you should be using
com.microsoft.sqlserver.jdbc.SQLServerDriver
jdbc:sqlserver://ServerName:1433;databaseName=DBNAME;SelectMethod=cursor
You will also need to make sure you are using the correct SQL server 2005 driver, if you are using a version of Java before 1.5 for ODI then you will need the SQL Server 2005 1.2 JDBC driver.
Cheers
John

Transfer data from Oracle 7 to SQL server 2005
Hello guys,
I am new in Oracle and I need some help from you:
I have an Oracle database 7 and I need to transfer some tables into MS SQL Server 2005.
Is there any ORACLE utility (compatible with ver 7) to help me in this task?
If not, what is the way to trasfer data from a Oracle database 7 to SQL Server 2005?
Thank in advanceSQL Server can access Oracle database via the Linked Database feature however I do not know if you could find a Oracle 7 database compatiable Oracle client to use with a SQL Server 2005 database. i would not even try to configure this.
What I suggest is you use SQLPlus to spool out delimited data into flat files, copy/FTP etc ... those flat files to your SQL Server box, and use BCP to load the data into SQL Server.
There have been numberous posts of generating delimited flat files from Oracle data posted here on the forum but here is one method that will work on version 7:
How do I export a database table to a flat file ?

Required Microsoft Sql Server 2005 Server Roles for JDBC Connection
Hi!
I have developed a database in MS SQL Server 2005, to which I would require only bulkadmin server role from an external java application, because I only need to update rows, insert values or use select queries in the database.
The problem is that, using either the Microsoft JDBC Driver 1.1 or the Java JDBC ODBC Driver and the Windows XP Data Base (ODBC) configurations, I need a user with sysadmin server role inside Sql Server, otherwise JDBC won't connect to the database using the selected user. Even if I leave the sql login with setupadmin or any server role lower than sysadmin, the connection is refused.
Is there no way to connect using JDBC to MS Sql Server 2005 other than granting the connected user sysadmin rights? My code looks as follows:
String driver = "com.microsoft.sqlserver.jdbc.SQLServerDriver";
String url = "jdbc:sqlserver://FIREBLADE\\SQLEXPRESS";
String user = "username";
String password = "password$$";
Connection conn;
Class.forName(driver);
conn = DriverManager.getConnection(url,user,password);
if (conn != null)
System.out.println("\nSQL Server Connection established ...\n");
I have heard that Java JDBC connections to Microsoft require high-level access, and if that's the case I would rather migrate my database to MySql.
Any informed answer is more than welcome. Thanks for reading my post!Well i personally prefer usage of open source MS SQL SERVER 2k jdbc driver called jtds instead of the driver provided by MS themselves(which is proproteriry) as i had similar problem which i personally encountered when i was using it.
