Using bitvice to mpeg2 a 16:9 sequence?

hi there,
Can this be done?
I have 16:9 footage and I would like to output anamorphorically. that is, I want the film to be viewable in widescreen for such tvs as well as in letterbox for 4:3. I followed the instructions in this post:
http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=1364469&#1364469
and it seemed to work (without burning...just look inside DVDSP).
my question: when I output the mpeg2 from bitvice, after taking the QT ref file created from FCP, the option was ntsc (which I want), but the resolution was 720 x 480 - i can't change this to anything higher for 16:9.
Am i doing something wrong?
I've tried to review other posts, but believe it or not, 16:9 is brand spanking new to me and I'm a bit clueless on it and now, a timeline is looming. The client and I had spoken many times about the required edits etc... but nothing ever came up about having 16:9 footage. I guess I'll be adding this to my information gathering sheet.
Any help is hugely appreciated.
Cheers,
keebler

16:9 DVD footage is 720x480, just like 4:3 footage is. The difference is in the aspect ratio of the pixels. For 16:9, the pixel ratio is 1.2 (the width of the pixel is 1.2 times its height). For 4:3, the pixel ratio is 0.9.
As long at the footage was done in FCP as 16:9, you should only have to set the Aspect in BitVice to 16:9, so that it'll put the widescreen flags in the encoded footage.

  • Using same string indicator in different stacked sequences

Hi guys, I want to use the same string indicator in different stacked sequences. I tried to wire the output of every string constant through the sequence to my string indicator outside the sequence block but then I get an 'Wire connected to an undirected tunnel' error. What is the best way to use the same indicator for all the sequences?

  • Which Encode Presets should I use, DVD or MPEG2?

Hi guys, When I Export a sequence from FCP5 as QT reference movie and the import in Compressor 2, I have a choice of Presets to choose for Encoding such as DVD, MPEG2. Which one do I choose for Encoding and then Importing into DVDSP3?
    Thanks,
    ZIA

You shouldn't be using presets from Compressor 1.X (I assume that is what you are referring to when you say MPEG2 preset), see the following note from Apple:
    http://discussions.info.apple.com/webx?linkprocess_@@.68b5fbd7
In any case, I'd suggest using one of the Compressor 2 DVD presets.

  • How can I use After Effects filters on a whole sequence without getting stuck in After Effects?

It appears that, with the options that are visible to the user, Dynamic Link only goes one-way and can't make round trips from Premiere Pro to After Effects and back again.  If I send a sequence to After Effects, that part works fine and I can do what I want and save the comp.  However, even though the comp appears as an asset in Premiere Pro, I am not allowed to do anything with it.  If I try to drag it to a new sequence, it just says no.  If I click "Create Sequence from Clip" it creates an empty sequence.
So how can I use After Effects on whole sequences/tracks instead of just on a clip-by-clip-by-clip-by-clip-by-clip basis?  is this possible?  For instance, if I have a whole sequence where I've neutralized the white balance, I might want to apply a warming filter to the whole thing as a unit.  That would be really painful with even a few clips to keep doing that again and again, and if you want to modify it slightly you have to do it over and over.  If there is a way to do that through Dynamic Link through some hidden option, what happens with the audio?  Would I have to cut it out of the lower sequence and paste it into the higher sequence with the After Effects comp as a video track?

I'm not an Adoby guy, hence you may ignore my reply, but Adobe Dynamic Link is obviously not just one way ticket and in most cases works just fine.
You have already been explained by J-MS and tclark513 how to properly use it and which pitfalls may occur.
So as to apply an effect onto a whole sequence or a group of clips you need to either nest them in PrPro or pre-compose them in AE. Then just apply an effect (or several ones) onto that composition.
So, if you nest clips in PrPro, select your nested sequence in the timeline, right-click and choose 'Replace with After Effects Composition'. Done! Your dynamically linked AE composition is in the right place in your timeline and in your Project panel as well. If you can not treat it as an ordinary footage, there are obviously some mistakes in your workflow.
If you didn't nest your sequence or a group of clips in PrPro before replacing them with AE composition, you may easily do it within AE. Just select all the layers in AE composition and choose Layer -> Pre-compose... (Ctrl/Cmd+Shift+C) Done! Switch back to your Master comp and apply your desired effect(s)
You may loose some effects or/and transitions while travelling from PrPro to AE via Adobe Dynamic Link, whereas you don't while travelling back
(If you start building your AE composition from scratch right in AE and then need to import it into PrPro, DO NOT export one as PrPro project out of AE, but rather choose Adobe Dynamic Link -> Import After Effects Composition... within PrPro)
P.S. And yes, submit a feature-request so that Adobe will convert 'Transparent Video' into fully functional 'Adjustment Layer'.

  • Using 48KHz & 32KHz in the same FCP sequence. Some say yes, some say no?

Can anyone please, please help resolve the conflicting info I'm getting regarding using 48KHz & 32KHz material in one sequence.
Forum user and generally smart-cookie Studio X says: You need convert the 32/12 audio to 48/16; otherwise it will drift out of sync.
Larry Jordan (uber smart-cookie) seems to say: Capture the material in 32KHz/16 and you are good to go, http://www.larryjordan.biz/articles/lj32_kHzaudio.html
Apple Documentation: In Final Cut Pro 6 you can freely mix clips with different formats in a single sequence and play back the sequence in real time .
Apple Documentation: Final Cut Pro can import audio with any bit depth and sample rate supported by QuickTime and Mac OS X Core Audio. Final Cut Pro performs real-time bit depth conversion and sample rate conversion when your audio file settings don’t match your sequence settings.
What's it all about Alfie? Which is it and why? Tall order answer for a brilliant expert able to take the generous time to hand one over. With many thanks.

Larry Jordan's statement is compelling: "As long as you capture your audio properly, FCP can handle 32, 44.1, and 48 kHz audio on the same Timeline with no problem."
I so much appreciate your reply Jerry. Was terribly excited to see You had responded. Thank you kindly.
I'm going to work with the 48 and 32 - Frankly I'm curious about this path as it not only runs against convention but comes with relatively recent documentation supporting it.
Yes, system must be robust to manage it. My sense is that if all heck breaks lose I can convert the audio I end up using in the cut, as opposed to converting all of the dailies. Thus far, capturing in both 48 & 32 and cutting into one sequence, I have not had render or playback, sync issues. Interestingly, I simply can't bring myself to treat music from a CD in same manner. 32, 44.1 and 48 in one sequence? Makes me shudder.
    Thank you Jerry!

  • Using the "Run Powershell command" in Task Sequence

    Hi,
We are having problems executing PowerShell Scripts from within a TaskSequence. We use this to perform different actions on our servers.
    * We have a GPO for Windows PowerShell that is set to "allow all scripts"
    * In Sccm, the computer agent setting is set to "bypass"
*In the deployement we specify that we want to run the content from the DP
When we run the TaskSequence, powershell is started but the script is not executed. The TS is stuck at this time and is just waiting for the script to execute... After killing the powershell process, the TS failes (of course).
How can we get this working:
-by disabling the GPO -> indeed then it works
-by downloading the content locally (we don't want that either)
Is there any other solution to this?
I've also tried this but no go:
    Quote:
Please note, that this policy will only work for scripts which are executed locally. If you want to execute ps1 scripts from a network drive it might be neccessary to add the dp server name into the trusted sites of the IE!

I also tried to run it via the command line option and call powershell.exe, same problem. Executing a scriptblock on the other hand does work. (In the scriptblock, it put get-executionpolicy and it is returning unrestricted)

  • How to use gApp.MenuItemExecute("BatchEdit") then programmatically Run Sequence

I am attempting to use the Acrobat 9 SDK - IAC API from a VB.NET application to select and run a batch sequence.
It is running on Windows XP SP3 with Acrobat 9.1.
    So far my code :-
    Dim gApp As Acrobat.CAcroApp
         If Not gApp.MenuItemExecute("BatchEdit") Then
    If Not gApp.MenuItemExecute("BatchEdit") Then
MsgBox("Batch Sequences menu was not found.")
    End
This successfully displays the Batch Sequence dialog.
How do I now select the desired sequence and then Run Sequence and execute the resulting dialog?

    Thanks for your prompt reply.
If I can't run sequences can I instead run other meni items?
Can I run MenuItemExecute on other menus and then control the resulting dialog e.g. Optimize Scanned PDF or PDF Optimizer or Reduce File Size.
If I can't control these dialogs, what is the point of the MenuItemExecute command?

  • Using Automator to go from a FCP Sequence to DVD

I'm not very familiar with Automator, is it possible to have a edited sequence in Final Cut Pro and be able to go directly to a burned DVD without requiring any user input? (For example, have a edited sequence and start a action, leave it alone and be able to come back and have a burned DVD.)
    Thanks!

Yeah it is pretty easy to make a DVD Studio Pro project with only a single video that plays right away...but I have to do this each week and was hoping automator could help out.
(With creating a DVD, there are two main steps, [1] Encoding the Video files through compressor and [2] Setting up and burning a DVD. I have to be at the computer to start the whole process and be there when it's finished to grab the DVD, but was hoping I wouldn't need to be there in between, allowing Automator to take the exported mpeg2 file and pop it into DVD Studio Pro and burn it out.)

  • What is your most-used Sun Java Creator feature/widget/key sequence

As I am learning about the IDE and using it to develop apps, I wonder about the most commonly used features that I have yet to learn about. Especially the key sequences that could save me time.
What features do you find yourself using the most? What features do you rely on as productivity enhancers?

    Hi,
Thanks for your interest in Sun Java Studio Creator.
Apparently the Studio Creator offers drag-and-drop, RAD approach to J2EE development. Java Studio Creator blends together technologies such as JSF, JDBC Rowsets, and the Web Services APIs to give J2EE developers a brisk-start when it comes to building web applications. The developers without being tied to proprietary technologies, developers can work with and within Creator or easily take their code with them to a number of development platforms.
Requirement of more sophisticated technologies to meet user demands, enterprise developers can incorporate EJB's.
Please have a walkthrough of the IDE features in the following links.

  • Using FCP server to batch export multiple sequences from a FCP file

Hi... I am researching to see if FCP Server will be useful for our work flow.
We are creating multiple sequences in one FCP project file, and I want to be able to drop that .fcp project file into a folder and have a "watch and respond" action on the folder that takes all the sequences in that project file and applies a compressor preset to each sequence inside the project file without me having to open the file and select all sequences and batch them through compressor manually.
If this is possible then FCPS is going to save us a lot of man hours... does anyone know from experience if this is possible? I know you can take a QT file and do this, but I am not sure if you can do this with a project file!
    Thank you
    Barry

We work with FCP projects that have 7 - 10 sequences. When the day is done we do a quick export current settings and drag them into the production that contains the fcp project. W also flag them "ready for review" and "send to the web app". Works great for me and costs about 2 minutes. Just about the time it takes to put on your coat and say goodbye to everybody in our little editshop.

  • How can I use an advanced action to show a sequence of images by clicking on a single button?

I'm trying to make Captivate 7 project where I have several slides where images are revealed one after the other.  I wanted to insert a button along the lines of click here for next image but can't work out how to write the script for it.  The Adobe information is next to useless and I can't find anything which breaks down these processes from scratch.  Any help appreciated!

You're a little early but help is on the way.  There are a couple of new e-books being written about using Advanced Actions.
One of them is currently available as a discounted pre-release here:
    http://www.infosemantics.com.au/e-books/guide-to-adobe-captivate-advanced-actions-01
Lilybiri is also writing an Advanced Actions Cookbook as well.
Your specific use case could be handled a number of different ways:
Have your images on different slides and use an identical button to jump to each slide.
Use Conditional Advanced Actions and User Variables to check which images have been viewed and then show the next image in a series.  This would allow everything to be done on the same slide but is a more advanced technique that may be beyond your abilities until you are more versed with how variables and advanced actions work.

  • Should I export MPEG2 DVD in 720p sequence? (cs5.5) final output DVD

What's the best way to downscale for DVD in 720 30p (HD). Is it best just to export stright to the preset MPEG2 DVD in premiere's export settings?

Correct, choose the MPEG-2 for DVD format, and for a preset, Widescreen Progressive (NTSC or PAL as appropriate).
It takes a bit longer to encode, but if you check the "Maximum Render Quality" at the bottom of the AME window, this should improve the downscaling quality.

  • Problems with Mpeg2 using CS5

    Hi there
I am having problems with Mpeg2s.
The sequence preset is HDV 1080i25 (50i) and exported at 1440x1080i 25 High Quality.
When I encode my video and play it back on Windows Media Player or Realplayer at certain points the sound crackles and then a couple of frames jump. I have encoded it a few times and it often happens around the same place each time. If I only encode a certain section of it the jump still occurs but at a different point. Sometimes it happens more than at others.
I encoded enough instances of the video to stitch it back together on a new sequence and encode that without any of the jumps. When I imported all of the mpeg2s on to the sequence to do this the jumping wasn't happening at all when played out on Premiere Pro. Also it doesn't happen as obviously when played in Nero.
So basically I would like to know why there is only a problem when I play the Mpeg2s in Windows Media Player and Realplayer but not when I play them within a project in Premiere Pro CS5? Is it a problem that can be fixed in Premiere Pro or whether it is a problem with Windows and Realplayer?
It is all seriously puzzling to me. I will appreciate any help directed my way, I have seen this problem on other forums but no-one seems to have an answer.
    Cheers.

I agree with Jim. Many experience similar issues in WMP, and I did not know that RealPlayer was still around.
I use VLC, or MediaPlayer Classic HC (both free), and find them much better than WMP, in almost all respects. There is a similar thread in the CS4 sub-forum, and it seems that WMP is the big culprit there.
Good luck, and let us know if VLC, GOM or MediaPlayer Classic HC do better jobs, playing the files.

  • What is the correct way to use Version Information from the sequence and from the deployment tool

I seem to be missing something in how the various version numbers are supposed to be used.    My end goal is to log and possibly display in the UI the version of the sequence and which installer version was used to inspect a UUT.   I have gotten most of the way there using:
How Can I Programmatically Query the Sequence File Version of My TestStand Sequence?
and logging this into the report with a function which contains:
    Parameters.UUT.AdditionalData.SetValString("Test Version",1,RunState.SequenceFile.Data.Version),
    Parameters.UUT.AdditionalData.SetFlags("",0,PropFlags_IncludeInReport)
The "Deployment Version" in the TestStand Deployment Utility auto incrementing the 3rd position of a version number  while the sequence auto increment is working on the 4th.
My first question is are these 2 version numbers in anyway supposed to be related to each other?   As it seems to me you would want those 2 reversed, I can make several installers based on sequence version X, making changes to what supporting files are also installed.
If they are not related as I suspect that they are not.  How do I programatically grabed the installer version and also log that into the result report?
is there an option to perform a custom deployment build step to log the deployment version before it builds and then reference that log at runtime of the test?

    Hi,
The sequence file version and deployment versions are not related.
You can build the installer with whatever version you want using the command line :
    https://decibel.ni.com/content/docs/DOC-38947
    Hope this helps,

  • How to get current value of SEQUENCE without using NEXTVAL

    Hi,
Here is my requirement. I need to provide a screen for allowing user to change the sequence # at any given instance. If I use CURRVAL, i get error 'ORA-08002 sequence EMP_NO.CURRVAL is not yet defined in this session'
If I use NEXTVAL and then CURRVAL it works, but i loose a sequence # which i cannot afford, since it's an employee #.
Help required in solving the problem.
    Thanks,

    Use this...
    select last_number from user_sequences where sequence_name = '<your-sequence>'
to get the current sequence value. However bear in mind that on a multi-user system (and which system today is not?) there may be many users firing this query, so in case of a next sequence no. allocation request fired by more thn one of them the sequences each gets will not all be this number + 1.
