Using BO SDK outside JAVA EE

Hello
I am investigating the possibility to connect to CMS on Enterprise BO-server, extracting diverse monitoring/status data from a "Desktop JAVA Application".
What i wish to accomplish is getting system metrics, servers and services status etc from a BO Enterprise XI31 environment, and use this data for analysis locally. I am still working on this, but so far it looks like the only possible way to "talk to BO" is by EE, meaning i have to create and deploy a web-application. I mean, the WEB-world is great, but some of us just love to work with local applications (full control etc...).
Has anyone achieved this and does anyone know if it's possible to compile a custom JAVA_DESKTOP (cmdline) application, importing BO-libs and using it's features outside the EE-environment ?
Best Regards Gerhard Andreassen.

You can find the required Jars in [Business Objects Enterprise Developer Guide|http://help.sap.com/businessobject/product_guides/boexir31/en/boesdk_java_dg_12_en.zip]
Navigate through Setting up the development environment > Web application setup > JAR files needed for deployment of Business Objects Software
It lists BO required Jars based on what SDK you use as well as the 3rd party jars that are required by BO Jars.
Jars are found on BOBJ server installation in:
<bobjehome>\common\4.0\java\lib and <bobjehome>\common\4.0\java\lib\external on Windows
for Unix etc.
bobj home/bobje/java/lib and bobj home/bobje/java/lib/external

• Use vCloud SDK for Java to integrate with vCD 5.6

Hello Folks,
Newbie here.
I have a situation where a home grown app, that uses vCloud SDK for Java to invoke a vCloud Director 5.1 installation. We use this for powering on/ off a few VMs.
Our installation is being upgraded from vCloud Director 5.1 to 5.6.
My question is, are we expected to upgrade/ carry out any code changes to our current implementation to integrate with the newer runtime version (5.6)?
Many thanks in advance.
Regards
Mohan

Somewhat going from memory here.
As long as the REST API Versions URL states that it is compatible with 5.1, then you should be fine to make the calls as v5.1.
Here is the section of the documentation for that:
Using the vCloud API with vCloud Director
The I think the SDKs are just wrappers in a manner of speaking. They all eventually translate code (java/python/etc) into a REST API system that is sent into vCloud Director via the API. For the most part, I think it'll work.
That's not talking about "support", just that it should work with some exceptions. I don't know if there is an official stance on cross compatibility like this.

• How do I diagnose No error when using RAS SDK ?

How do I diagnose the "No error." message to figure out what the real error is?
I've enabled -crpetrace 7 in the Report Application Server, but the logs it generates don't mean much to me.
I 'm attempting to use the SDK via Java. Some existing reports work fine with the RAS, but some don't (or I wouldn't be posting here). The current one I'm having issue with has 2 tables, (mainreport1234table0_ttx and mainreport1234table1_ttx). I try to set the datasource like so:
rcd.getDatabaseController().setDataSource(resultSetList.get(0),tableAlias,tableAlias);
and immediately get this exception with no further details:
com.crystaldecisions.sdk.occa.report.lib.ReportSDKServerException:

• Set password policy using iPlanet SDK

I know there'a a few such post lying around and iPlanet has a few documentations, but I still can't find what I need.
Specifically, I need to use the SDK for Java to do:
1. setting of password expiration (on/off)
2. setting of expiration warning (on/off)
3. password syntax checking (on/off)
4. password length (set to desired length)
5. password min age (set to desired duration)
6. password history (enabled/disabled)
7. password storage scheme (set to SHA/SHA/cleartext)
The iDS deployment documentation gives a good explanation on all these, but I can't find any codes/examples on how to do them using the SDK at all.
Does anyone knows where I can find such examples?
Thanks.

Sorry, please ignore this post. I've found what I need.

• How to set DbConnections when scheduling a crystal report using Crystal Reports Server Java SDK?

Post Author: Manjula
CA Forum: JAVA
Hi,
Trying to schedule a report using Crystal Reports Server Java SDK. Want to pass DBConnections from API, though passing DBConnections, the report is not being scheduled and says "Failed to retrieve data from the database.Details:[Database Vendor Code:6550].
Would be thankful if someone could answer my point as applicable.
Here is the code attached.
ISDKList dbLogons = oReport.getReportLogons();int dbLogonSize = dbLogons.size();
for(int i=0; i<dbLogonSize; ++i) {
IReportLogon dbLogon = (IReportLogon)dbLogons.get(i);
dbLogon.setDatabaseName("DBname");
dbLogon.setUserName("usrname");
dbLogon.setPassword("pwd");

Ted,
Thank you for your valuable information.
First, tried scheduling on Central Management Console and then with the java code.It worked fine, but here is another question for you.
On the Console, a report exists with ServerName and UserName harcoded and when trying to set ServerName and UserName from the java code, its throwing exception. Where as Password is not set on Console, am able to set password from java.
And DatabaseName is not set on Console (non editable), unable to set the same from java too. Why is it so?
So, my question is - though ServerName,DatabaseName,UserName,Password exists on the Console report, can't I override those parameters from java?
Would be greatful if you answer my question and provide me some guidance.
Thanks in advance.

• What's the difference between Netscape SDK for Java & JNDI?

I know I can use either JNDI or Netscape SDK to access iDS. So whats their differences basically?
Why would I need JNDI/Netscape SDK if I can just use either of them to access iDS?
Thanks!

Netscape SDK for JAVA developed only for iplanet Directory Server but JNDI for any directory server.
JNDI has classes provided by Sun that will help your application interact with an LDAP server.JNDI applications work similarly to JDBC applications - write applications once and be free to use "drivers" from different vendors. Sun provides the "driver" that will help interact with the LDAP server. Sun also provides "drivers" for other naming services (like CORBA, Netscape).
The Java Naming and Directory Interface (JNDI) allows Java applications to use a single set of methods to access multiple naming and directory services such as LDAP and NIS.
JNDI is a Java API that provides a common way for programmers to access a variety of naming and directory services. The API consists of several packages:
javax.naming for naming operations (access entries)
javax.naming.directory for directory operations (access attributes)
javax.naming.event for requesting event notification
javax.naming.ldap for LDAP-specific features.
JNDI operates through a layer of software called a Service Provider. The Service Provider implements the JNDI operations in terms of a particular underlying protocol.
JNDI's Service Provider Interface (SPI) allows you to select Service Providers at runtime. In many cases you can use the same JNDI methods regardless of whether the Service Provider is talking to an LDAP server or using another protocol such as NIS. In order to access all of the functionality of the LDAP protocol, however, you will have to use methods outside of this abstraction.

• How to use Iden SDK with WTK 2.5.1 ?

I have installed WTK, and it has been working but I realized I forgot to add the iden SDK for my motorola phone. I installed the SDK but I assume I need to link the files to WTK somehow?
What I am wanting to do :
So... I think I know what I need... I thought I had installed the iDEN SDK from Motorola, but I never did. So I installed the SDK but now I don't know how to use it with WTK. For you people proficient with this I am sure this is a simple task, but for me I am lost.
The SDK has a class file called StatusManager which can retrieve phone battery level...
From documentation:
"Field Detail
BATTERY_LEVEL
public static final int BATTERY_LEVEL
This is the value passed to the status manager to retrive the battery levels
The return value is in the range of [0 - 3] with 0 being no charge and 3 being a full battery.
BATTERY_LEVEL has a value of 0"
QUESTION IS: Where do I put the SDK files so WTK can use them? I am lost here.
I found the StatusManager.class file in :
C:\Program Files\Motorola\iDEN SDK for J2ME (MIDP 2_0)\lib\i730\com\mot\iden\device\
Can someone give me the detailed process of using the SDK with WTK... please??

Thanks Sree.
Is there something so called as the back-door approach to it.
I read in the articles of Struct Objects and Connection that:
If connection is obtained via:
weblogic.jdbc.jts.connection jtsConn = getConnection();
OracleConnection oracleConn = jtsConn.conn;
And this should ideally work in WLS5.1,
but still i wonder how did they obtain the connection.
It would be obligatory if someone could help me with it.

Can someone suggest a remedy?
thank you

Servlets are ran by an application server ! (Apache Tomcat ....).
Second, is your class in any package ?

• Porting from JDK 1.2.2 to MS SDK for Java 4.0 - Help!!!

Hi All!

javax/swing is actively used as well. But the customer decide to use

(for other products) with MS and MS may decide to cancel support if our
customer will use Sun JDK and Sun JVM.
So, I have to try to port all project to MS SDK for Java and the question
is: Do I have a chance not to rewrite 100% of my code?
Somewhere I read: ":I've downloaded the new MS Virtual Machine

anybody knows if MS will support Java 2 platform specifications? As I found
at MS, latest MS JDK 4.0 (on which WLS 5.1 can run) meets specification of
Java 1.1 and after installing it I found that I must rewrite about 90% of my
code. Can someone clarify the situation with MS JDK?
Thanks in advance,

• How to create cross tab reports using RAS SDK api with Crystal Reports XI

Hi Everybody,
Iam generating reports in a web-based application with Crystal Reports XI using Report Application Server(RAS) SDK API. The columns in my report exceed that of an A4 sized page. So, when I export that report to pdf, only those columns that fit to a page are showing up. To solve, this problem, I thought of using cross tab. But, I donot know how to generate cross tab report using RAS SDK API. I have tried to get some code from the internet. But, I did not find any java code for that.Can some one give me some sample code.It is very urgent.
Thanks in advance.

Hi,
The easiest way I use is to create the worksheet as regular table and then when i verify the data I get (non aggregate) I duplicate it as a cross tab.
In the duplication wizard I just need to define the axis (using drag and drop).
if you want to create a cross tab from the beginning you need to define that in the new workbook wizard (check the "cross tab" rather then "table"), chose your fields and define the place you want them.
The data point (the center of the cross tab) is aggregated as to your machine definition and will happen automatically.
for example: to find the amount of receipt by months:
On the left put the "Buyer Name", on top put the "Months" and in the data point put the amount.
What you'll get is something like:
months: jan feb mar apr ......
buyer_name
jhon_smith 100 50 30 250 ......
jhon_doe 80 45 90 453 ........
and so on.....

I have another question regarding connecting to database.
How to get connection from a datasource, to avoid supplying database credentials which will vary from one environment to another.
Please let me know if any one has pointers.
Thanks in advance.

While running the java class jdev is exectung the class with javaw command. I tried to execute the same from commnd prompt, it didn't print anything on the command prompt. So I tried to execute java command with "java followed by class path" as below.

• Can I load a LDIF file and initalise the database using iPlanet SDK?

I know how to create a new context in the DS, initialise its database with a LDIF file from the console or using the LDAPModify.
But would it be possible if I can create the context & initialise the database using the iPlanet SDK for Java?
I'm developing a module that would allow an user to create a new organisation, thereby the need to create the database using the SDK. How can I go about to achieve this?
Many thanks!

I don't understand. If you know how to do everything using ldapmodify, it should be very straightforward to use java. What don't you understand?

• Anyone successfully used ODI SDK to create master repository?

I'm just trying to compile and run the sample code given by Oracle (odi_sdk_samples.zip downloaded from http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/indexes/samplecode/dataintegration-sample-522116.html) to create a master repository, and I am running into an error below.
java CreateMasterAndWorkRepositorySample

at oracle.odi.setup.support.MasterRepositorySetupImpl.internalCreateMaster(MasterRepositorySetupImpl.java:139)
... 2 more
Does anyone know how to tell JVM the location of /scripts/xml ? This happens to exist at oracledi.sdk/lib/scripts/xml under ODI installation. All I am doing to run the above program is adding all JARS from oracledi.sdk/lib to CLASSPATH and compiling this and one other file (SimpleOdiInstanceHandle.java) in the same directory. Unfortunately, there is no documentation out there on how to set up the environment properly. Apparently it is trying to get to some XML files that ODI needs to execute in order to create the master repository....
Thank you in advance for your help.
글 수정: user11180669

Well hindsight is 20/20 but oraparams.sh needed to be run before running any program that uses ODI SDK. :)
