Using conditional formating on member columns in essbase hirarchy in obiee

Hi All,
I ws analysing an existing sample PnL report in obiee 11g.
Wht I found that there is conditional formating used on 'Balance' member column based on one of the member column (net income) from 'income statement' hirarchy of essbase cube. I tried to open the 'Conditional Format' tab and tried to look into the conditional formating based on the columns above. Wht I noticed that , in the filter, some values are uses such as equal to is in 300000 and so on.. I thought of editing the value to specify another value, but could not edit the value as it is non editable.
Can anyone tell me how to specify such value.? I tried to furhter investigate and found that is is actually comming from net income member, but I am not able to edit it modify it.. I wanted to used this formatting feature in my another report which I created from scratch, but not able to understand how to do it..
Any help, please?
Thanks and Regards
Santosh

Hi Dhar,
Thank you for your quick reply.
I have added couple of screenshot to flickr to clarify my problem: http://www.flickr.com/photos/93812026@N07/
Picture 1:
Yes, your assumption is correct. We are using gen x level members in report, but these members are shared members or Dynamic calculations i.e. we have created custom account hierarchy for them.
Picture 2:
Basic situation, when I query that hierarchy. I.e. it returns account names for both members in the hierarchy. Furthermore, so far I have used only one pair of account, i.e. WOC
Picture 3:
I'm able to "merge" these two account members simply by adding "case when" statement to account dimension object. It shows values correctly in a table (picture 4)
Picture 5:
BUT, when adding other accounts to query filter, the returned values are no longer correct, but some sort of multiplication.
--> it seems, that OBIEE cannot figure the context it should do the calculation against and I don't know how to define it there.
Ps. Next step was, that we tried to use dashboard prompt to return correct values to calculations, but after being able calculate correctly values for these above mentioned accounts, we ran into problem, when trying to add entity level to dashboard prompt (OBIEE gave an error refering Essbase). I believe this is a bug in this version.

  • How do i use conditional formatting to edit the color of other selected other cells?

I have been playing around with the conditional formatting feature of Numbers, I have figured out how to change font and background color of the cell i am working with.
However what i am looking to do is apply a background color formatting to another cell (i.e. F2) if conditions are met in (B2).
    the end game is this,
I want to make a column of check boxes, and using contional formating i want adject cells to change color (I.e. the example above: if (B2) is a check box, then when unchecked the reffered Cell (F2) does nothing, but when check the color of (F2) changes)
I can make this happen with Logic equations, the give (i.e. F2) some letter or number value, then using conditional formats i can have the color change. but this leaves that particular cell useless to me (i.e. F2) I am not free to enter or edit text in that cell. (i.e. =IF(B2=TRUE,"Paid","Due") ----> then add a conditional statement that chages color when the value is either "Paid" or "Due")
How do i have F2 change color, when B2 is checked and still retain the ability to enter information (or potential have another formula) in F2? (The Cell is not used up by "Paid" or  "Due" it is editable just like any other cell)
is there anyway to change cell characteristics like font, color, and background color inside a formula, because in that way i would be able build it manually
i tried using the formula editor inside the conditional format pane, but the only infor it will allow me to retain is one partictular cell. i cannot add modifiers like "+" or "=" or anything else. what is that space used for then?
    thanks for anyones help

    MC,
You can do what you want in Numbers. It requires an auxiliary column and it's a bit tedious to set up because conditional formatting by comparison to another cell isn't relative, so each cell has to be programmed individually with no option to Paste or Fill to other cells in a range.
For explanation purposes, let's say your checkbox is A2, your cell to be conditionally formatted is B2, and your auxiliary cell is  C2. To have the format of B2 determined by the checkbox status in A2, you will:
    1. In C2 write: =IF(A, B, " ") The " " is any string or value that you don't expect to encounter in B normally, and using the space character means you don't have to worry about having it visible if C is in View.
    2. In B2 use Conditional Format: "Equal To" cell C2 and set your text and fill attributes to be used when the box in A is checked.
That's it. Do that for every cell in the range.

  • Find missing data using conditional formatting?

    Hello,
I'm familiar with Excel but new to Numbers.
Can I use conditional formatting to find the blank cells in a table?
    If so, how?
If not, what would be the best way to find blank cells in a large table?
    Thanks

Jerry's suggestion in that thread was:
Designate a blank cell to be your comparison for the conditional format and set a fill color to be present whenever your data cells are "Equal To" the content of the blank cell that you have designated. Then when you enter data, the fill color will revert to what it was for the rest of the table.
The problem with that method was that zero values and blank cells both triggered the conditional formatting. Badunit chimed in with:
Use "text is" instead of "equal to".
    Which solved that problem.
Here's an example, using the conditional formatting rule incorporating the revised suggestion:
The conditional format rule shown is applied to all of the cells in column B.

  • Can you transfer data from one numbers spreadsheet to another using conditional formatting?

I have a tracker document set up for client payments and when I indicate payment received, it  flags green using conditional formatting. However I would like these to automatically transfer to another sheet - without having to cut and paste the associated data to the other sheet. Can I set up conditional formatting to do this? If not how could I get and automatic transfer?
    thanks forum.

    Hi Kangers,
There are a number of ways to transfer data from one table to the next. It should not be hard to set up.
Conditional formatting would not be involved it moving the data but you could set it up to flag the data in the new table.
Without knowing what your tables and data look like it is hard to propose a solution.

  • Using conditional formatting on negative values in Web Analysis 931

    Hi All,
Can I please have your thoughts on the below:
We open a web analysis report in Analyze View.
The scenarios are in the columns and we are trying to apply conditional formatting on negative values.
We right click the scenario in the columns and click Formatting...
We then tick the Conditional Formatting check box and we want to add a condition on negative numbers.
However we can only enter positive values as the - sign is not accepted. This means we cannot apply conditional formatting on negative values.
Does anyone know how this can be done? Am I missing the obvious?
    Thanks for your help.
    Seb

Gotcha. Ok. Have you thought about creating a new hidden calculated ColumnB whereby you multiply the values in ColumnA by -1 and then set your formatting based on the result in ColumnB. If the value in B is positive then you know A was a negative number so you can go from there, in a round about way? I don't have time at the moment to think it all the way out but something to think about. If your formatting involves just colors you could use Traffic Lighting to set the color on ColumnA based on result in ColumnB. Traffic Lighting out of the box is limited but it's a start until you have time to build your own.

  • Can I use conditional formatting in OWA?

Can I use conditional forwarding for emails in OWA. I would like to set up rules in OWA that will allow certain messages to change their display upon receipt.

    Hi,
Based on my knowledge, I'm afraid that we can't do it via OWA. You need to setup the conditional formatting on Outlook. Here is the steps for your reference.
On the View tab, in the Current View group, click View Settings, and then click Conditional Formatting. Click Add to create a conditional formatting rule.

  • Using conditional format for company logo

    Hi
Before running the report, customer, will enter some data into the promt(Entity dimensions - Holding structure)
Every company has unique logo, and depending on selection , in report should display the company's logo
    Is it possible?
    Regards
    Alexander

One way you might be able to do this is to have each logo/graphic on a separate text row and then add conditional suppression on the rows only to show that row if it matches the required value for the entity.
Depending on how many entities you have it could be confusing and be maintenance intensive if new entities were added.
    Hope this helps. Cheers.

  • Hiding values through conditional formatting (colour change)

    Hi all,
    OBIEE version is 10.1.3.4.0.
I have some reports where I'm supposed to hide some values as soon as they surpass a certain threshold. Hide, not filter that is. Conditional formatting being the obvious choice I wanted to simply set the colour to the background colour when the threshold is surpassed.
However, since all affected reports use alternating row highlighting, the background colour may change. I.e. it's not simply about colouring the values #FFFFFF
I can't use CSS style display:none by the way, since this actually shifts the following columns to the left
    Without display:none
    !http://lh4.ggpht.com/_kh3-h2s8BmA/So5ZmnvXnOI/AAAAAAAAAzk/aL9QznSGGF0/s800/0001_actual_values.jpg!
    With display:none:

    Any thoughts on this?
    Cheers,
    C.

We did achieve conditional formatting for pivot tables. This is the workaround. See if this helps.
Create a new column measure at the BMM layer (Lets call it 'M'). This is the measure based on which the conditional formatting on another measure has to be done. Add this column 'M' to the report columns in the pivot table.
Now, we get 2 measures. The report shows data for both these measures, side-by-side in the results. Now to use conditional formatting in the column that we just added-
Use the images (traffic signals, colored lines, colored arrows etc) provided by OBIEE in the 'Format' tab after applying the conditional formatting. OBIEE provides a choices to "Display Images only". Choose this option.
Now the report has 2 measure columns side-by-side with value and the image. We have to merge these columns for the visual effect. Use the column border property for both the measures. In the first mesure select the column border as 'C' and in the adjacent column select a mirror image of 'C' (mirror on right side of 'C'). This provides a visual effect that the two columns are one.
This concept can be use to hide values also.
    Cheers,
    A

  • Is there any way to use a formula or reference in conditional formatting

I would like to use conditional formatting (or something similar) to change either the background color, or text color, of a cell. The conditional formatting in the inspector will allow you to do this using numbers or text as the condition.
Is there any way to do the same thing using either a formula or cell reference? I have created a budget with two sheets, "Budget" and "Actual". Each sheet has two tables, "Income" and Expenses." In the "Actual :: Expenses" table I would like to be able to change the cell color depending on the difference between the Actual and the Budget corresponding cells.
I know I can do this by making a new column "Difference" write the formula and enter conditional formatting for that particular cell, but I DON'T WANT TO!!
Just for fun, is there any way to roll over a cell and have a info box "pop up" that could show me what the difference between the two corresponding cells is. Kind of similar to how when you roll the mouse pointer over a file the box expands to show you the entire name of the file. Not to optimistic about this one.
    Thanks

Yes, Peter. Purchase iWork 09. Numbers 09 offers conditional format vs. content of another cell.

  • Conditional Format In Pivot Table Columns

    Hi All
I am wondering if it is possible to accomplish conditional formatting in each column of a pivot table.
    My table looks like
    Jan/12 Feb/12 Mar/12
    Bill 1.00 4.00 7.00
    Bob 4.00 1.00 3.00
    Charlie 5.00 1.00 2.00
What I am trying to do is highlight the max(value) in each column regardless of the other columns
    So for Jan I want to format 5.00 / Feb 4.00 / Mar 7.00
I have tried playing around with Rank but cannot seem to get it working properly.
Does anybody know how this is possible?
    Thanks in advance

    Hi clueless,
Just an idea...have you already tried to create an extra object max like max(measure by period, person)...so you will obtain the max value for each combination period, person.
Afterwards you can use this object for your conditional report : when measure = max(measure) then 'red'.
give it a try and keep us informed.

  • How do I apply conditional formatting using SharePoint Designer 2013?

I'm attempting to apply Conditional Formatting to a list view web part via SharePoint Designer 2013, and I can't seem to find the option to do so.
I've a horrible feeling I'm just being daft, but here's what I've done so far:
    - Created a new page (I've tried both web part and wiki)
    - Added a list "App part" and saved the page
    - Checked-out and opened the page via Designer
    - Clicked the "Edit file" option
    - Selected the XsltListViewWebPart tag
So far I can't find any options to add it. If I open the Conditional Formatting pane via the View menu it tells me the following:
    > To use conditional formatting, select an HTML tag, data value, or
    > range of text, and then click Create to specify formatting options.
I've tried selecting the web part tags in all manner of combinations with no luck. In previous version I would have simply selected the previewed data rows in the now-absent Preview pane.
    Am I missing something?

Create and edit a Wiki Page
Click Inset > Data View and Select “Empty Data View”
Click Inside the <DataSources> tags </DataSources>
Click Insert > Data Source “Your Data Source Name”
Hold down Ctrl button and select the Rows in the order you want them to appear from your “Data Source Details” Window.
After the Rows are selected click on the drop down “Insert Selected Fields as…” at the top of the “Data Source Details” Window.
Select “Multiple Item View” option (This will create the xsl where we need to add the conditional formatting to)
Find the <tr> tag that contains the Row Data.  Insert the following right below the <tr> tag:
    <xsl:attribute name="style">
    <xsl:if test="@FieldName = 'Something'">background-color: #FF0000;</xsl:if>
    </xsl:attribute>
I hope this helps.  I figured this out by using the old 2010 Designer to figure out the where to place the code and how to do this.

  • Issue with conditional formatting in XML publisher report

    Hi All,
I am working on a XML report where in I am required to use conditional formatting to highlight changes, if there is change in any of the column value. The condition is required to be implemented on a text column as well as a number column. I have tried to use the conditional formatting available in the BI Publisher Release 10.1.3.2, wherein I have compared the two columns, and when they are not equal to, then formatting should change to red color; but the same is not working in the excel output.
    Can anybody help here?
