Using Connect prior option in sql

HI,
when i tried the below query it is resulting the rows as below
select level,ssn,report_to, baid
from table1
where ssn not in (select e.ssn
from table1 e, .
table2 s
where e.ssn = s.ssn)
start with ssn in (select e.ssn
from table1 e)
connect by prior report_to=baid;
Result
LEVEL SSN REPORT_TO BAID
1 UNKSSN BFTXQ6Q 0
2 1444595 BAT35YW BFTXQ6Q
3 1480160 BL2Y2K1 BAT35YW
4 1200802 BAKA5T5 BL2Y2K1
5 1261895 BA1M3S8 BAKA5T5
6 1271806 BAJB7GV BA1M3S8
7 1235427 BDZ8H4V BAJB7GV
8 1355090 B0YTGX6 BDZ8H4V
1 UNKSSN B0JXMSY 0
2 1236336 BBW6RSX B0JXMSY
3 1228220 B0SM3YK BBW6RSX
4 1367022 BM5AYVG B0SM3YK
when i tried the same one using max(level) like below
select ssn,level,max(level) maxval
from table1
where ssn not in ( select e.ssn
from table1 e, table2 s
where e.ssn = s.ssn)
group by ssn,level
start with ssn in (select e.ssn
from table1 e)
connect by prior report_to=baid;
result is :
ORA-30928-cONNECT BY FILTERING PHASE RUNS OUT OF TEMP TABLESPACE
Please advice, can any one give me the logic to get the max(level) value.
Thanks

Hi,
The documentation implies that the START WITH and CONNECT BY clauses should come before the GROUP BY clause. I've never known it to make a difference before, but you might try putting the GROUP BY clause last.
If you're GROUPing by LEVEL, what's the point of SELECTing MAX (LEVEL)? MAX (LEVEL) will always be the same as LEVEL.
What are you trying to do?
Post some sample data (CREATE TABLE and INSERT statements) and the results you want from that data, and somebody will help you get them.

  • Using Connect within a PL/SQL block

    Hi,
    I have a package, inside that i have many procedures & functions, in one of my procedure, i want to use [connect username/password] within a procedure.
    This procedure is called by our client program (in VC++), they will just call the procedure name with parameters, but the procedure should internally connect to one more user & perform some dba related operations, all these things are done in the procedure only, clint will not be aware of the internal operations.
    I tried to give connect within the procedure,
    it gives an error Invalid SQL stmt while compiling the package. Is there any way to do this.
    Pls. reply me back.

  • Install "use typical installation options for a stand-alone primary site" All SQL Prerequisites Failed. Checks SQL before SQL is even installed?

    So I select the install option to "Use typical installation options for a stand-alone primary site" which says it includes installation of SQL 2012 SP1 on the local server.
    But then during the prerequisite checks it fails every SQL check.
    Is it just me or a giant catch 22? Am I missing something here? How is this over looked if it is what it looks like? Why even have this simple install option if it can't work?

    Take a look at my R2 install guide. This is for a stand alone primary. As Torsten states you pretty much need SQL installed and configured correctly prior to running the ConfigMgr install - along with  a few other pre-reqs.

  • OWB - possible to use connect by prior in mappings

    Hi,
    We get data supplied in hierarchical table and like to populate column on downstream table with level in hierarchy (parent, child or grandchild).
    In sql can use connect by prior.

    Sorry Tom, I dont like to hear "There is no way" :-(
    There is always a way in computer to get what you need (at least it is good as Rule of thumb). I am not sure we will find it here (in a voluntary supporting forum).
    Now we (or better the architect of their system) should think of the way :-)
    Of course doing so in the forum, while we do know the system and only got a glimpse on what is needed, is not the best idea. I will point some issues which can be related to a solution. Those are not a solotions as it is but something we can use for a solution
    once something look in the right way.
    * A web connects counter is one of the easier thing to do. The basic idea is just to use the connect event and the disconnect event an adding 1 or removing 1 from the counter. This is best to do in the application using static variable as any way the second
    the application is down the counter can be go to hell as we know there is no one connect (there for a counter do not use database usually). Using a web dot-net (or asp 3) application this is done most of the time using the global.asa/global.asax file, which
    include the application and session events. for example using the method Session_Start
    protected void Session_Start(object sender, EventArgs e) {
    // Code that runs when a new session is started
    * IIS have a build-in loging system where we can log each and every request/response or only logins users. There is lot we can do with this log files including data mining. Using small bulk insert script we can use the SQL agent to insert those logs to the
    database and get the information we need.
    * any web developer i want to believe know about the Fiddler application which we use to monitor traffic. A proxy is not the only way to to monitor traffic (it is not good for our case as this is in the client side), there are several option in the server
    side.
    * SQL trigger on logon can be use to get information on who is loging on and can be logging only specific source (like our sharepoint IP or any sharepoint application). This information (what is the application which connect to the server can be retrive
    in several solution without using a trigger as well)
    *** (I'll be brief ... I'm getting bored... probably the reader feel the same)
    * using extended events and/or profiler we can monitor any connection and save the data or just remember it in shared (static) variable (this
    blog show how to do it by the way). Again we can monitor specific application or use any filter in order to get only the sharepoint users
    .... and i can continue for several days more :-) ...
    "If there is a willing, then there's a way"
    "If you can't do it, Then someone else probably can"
    "Never say never"
    I hope this help somehow :-)

  • Connect Coldfusion 9 to SQL using intranet users windows credentials

    Is it possible to use pass through / integrated authentication using the application users windows account (rather than the service account) when a Coldfusion application connects to an MS SQL DB?
    For background, we are running:
    ColdFusion 9,0,1,274733 hosted on a Windows 2008 R2 (64) server
    SQL server 2008 R2 hosted on a Windows 2008 R2 (64) server
    IE 8 and/or 9 as the client browser
    I have an intranet application that is used only by users within our AD domain. I have no problem getting ColdFusion to connect to the SQL database using the ColdFusion service account, but ideally we would like the connection to be made under the application user's account.
    I would appreciate any guidance on how to achieve this if it is possible?
    (I am not a webmanager/developer and so my ColdFusion knowledge is very limited!)
    Thanks in advance,
    Darren

    Again, thanks for the responses - it is nice to be able to talk through these things (I work in a fairly small organisation and so do not often get to talk through technical subjects with other professionals!)
    Firstly, to respond to BKBK, I have been considering that approach, though unless I have missed something, I would either:
    1. have to use simple authentication - in which case a users windows credentials would be passed as Binary_Base64 (i.e. clear text) - and possibly would need to replicate all AD accounts as SQL server accounts (not sure in that account replication bit as I may be able to still get it to authenticate as a windows account from the SQL engine - but the clear text passwords is the real problem), or:
    2. have to use form based credentials, in which case the users would have to 'login' to the application - I am trying to avoid this to make it as seamless for the users as possible.
    Neither of those approaches are ideal (unless, as I say, I am missing an option there) and so I am more inclined to use a single SQL account from the datasource definition and control access from a combination of the application and the database.
    Secondly, to respond to Dan.
    I agree, it would be no good for User A to receive an error if they tried to run a proc that they do not have permissions for. However, if these errors occur they are captured and handled gracefully in both the application suite and the database.
    Aside from this, the application does not provide the ability for user A to execute procedure 7 (from the example in my previous post) - which I guess is what you are saying with " Whatever UI control User B has to run sp 7 cannot be available to User A".
    The reason for controlling physical permissions in the DB was that:
    1. it is universal for all interfaces with that database - so long as integrated auth is used
    2. it provides a belt and braces approach (as parts of this application has sensitive data) - so that if somehow user A gets the web application to call procedure 7 then the DB would still prevent it
    For thought/discussion:
    I think I will end up using a single account from the datasource, but make it a datasource that can only be called from AD users accessing the application (though only AD users can access the application which achieves this already).
    Any call to the database must include the CGI variable "AUTH_USER" as an input parameter.
    The DB will then:
    1. check the account that is logged in to the SQL engine (to ensure a user hasnt bypassed coldFusion and gone straight to the DB - though Group permissions are already set for this scenario)
    2. Check the user supplied as a parameter exists in AD and is an active account
    3. and check the permissions of that user for the particular task that was requested of the DB engine. - execute if permissable, gracefully refuse with appropriate messages passed back if not.
    This combined with the control in the application to only present the right functions to the right user should give me the belt and braces that we are after - all be it in a bit of a convoluted way!
    I guess the big question is how easy/difficult is it to fake "AUTH_USER"?

  • Error while trying to connect to a remote SQL Server DB using multiconnect

    As part of our business process, we need to connect to a SQL Server DB external to SAP.
    We have done the following:
    1. We set up an ODBC connection on our SAP sandbox server to the external SQL server DB.
    Name: sdsdev
    Connection string: sdsdev\sqlexpress2008
    2. We tested the ODBC connection from within ODBC and it works perfectly
    3. Using transaction: DBCO we have set up a DB connection known to SAP that we can use in ABAP to retrieve the data.
        It was set up with exactly the same parameters as with the ODBC.
        We used the following connection string so it would know to use the ODBC DBSL profile parameters, with the DSN name
    being the same as defined in the ODBC:  See below ...
        DB connection: AR_INTERFACE
        DBMS: MSS
        User Name: ARTransfer
        Password: ******
        Conn info: MSSQL_DSN=sdsdev
    4. We also made sure we installed the DBSL dynamic library (DLL) on the R/3 system server.
    5. We ran a small test program to test connectivity ... as below ...
         exec sql .
             connect to 'AR_INTERFACE'
         end exec.
         right after the above command we check the system log for status.  It failed with the following message:

  • Sybase connection tab not showing in New connection option in SQL developer

    Hi,
    I do not see a Sybase connection tab in New connection option in SQL developer 2.1 where as it was available in ver 1.5
    Why is that? how to fix it?

    Hi,
    Have you installed the JTDS JDBC driver yet into SQL Developer.
    This is required before you get the connection tab for SQL Server and Sybase.
    You can install the JTDS driver from the Check For Updates action.

    and downloaded the jdbc driver( i noticed that the msutil.jar and msbase.jar are not in the folder avalable on microsoft site Microsoft SQL Server 2005 JDBC Driver so i installed
    Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Driver for JDBC 1st and just changed the jqljdb.jar file with the one available in Microsoft SQL Server 2005 JDBC Driver )
    and set the path of the CLASSPATH to a folder which name has no spaces
    and tried Class.forName("com.microsoft.sqlserver.jdbc.SQLServerDriver");
    and Class.forName("com.microsoft.jdbc.sqlserver.SQLServerDriver");
    and tried compiling and running with command prompt
    and still have the same exception which occurs at runtime
    "An exception has occured: java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: com.microsoft.sqlserver.jdbc.SQLServerDriver"

  • Connecting SnapManager to Local SQL server using command line

    Are there any commands (PowerShell preferably) that can be used to connect SnapManager to Local SQL Server and configure it with mostly default configuration? I tried the import-config command using SnapManager for PowerShell, it gives configuration successful import message but does not establish connection to SQL server. Running the new-backup or clone-database commands after importing gives the message that SQL server is not connected and configured.

    After more investigation and even more chocolate, we've identified the problem and it's now working. For anyone else who strikes this problem in future, here's something to check/consider/try:
    Even though Squirrel SQL Client was connecting and working ok using the MS JDBC driver (v 3.0), it recorded this in its logs:
    Cannot resolve the collation conflict between "SQL_Latin1_General_CP1_CI_AS" and "Latin1_General_CI_AS" in the INTERSECT operation.
    We've found that the open source jTDS driver does not have the same issue as the Microsoft one.
    We've installed the current jTDS driver, recorded the driver name (net.sourceforge.jtds.jdbc.Driver) and the JDBC URL (jdbc:jtds:sqlserver://<hostname>:1433/<database>) and the connection is now working fine.
    Hope this helps other people...
    Thanks to those of you who offered suggestions and things to check...much appreciated.

  • Hybrid Connection fails for Windows SQL Server 2014 - SSL Provider, error: 0 - The certificate chain was issued by an authority that is not trusted

    Hello,
    I have configured BizTalk Services Hybrid Connection between Standard Azure Website and SQL Server 2014 on premise.
    Azure Management portal shows the status of Hybrid Connection as established.
    However, the website throws an error when trying to open a connection

    (The same website, with the same connection string deployed on SQL Server machine works correctly).
    I tried various options with the connections sting (IP address instead of machine name, Trusted_Connection=False, Encrypt=False, etc. the result is the same

  • Why named parameter can't be used multiple times in PL/SQL block in JDBC

    with the following PL/SQL block, when I run int in JDBC, I get an error,
    it says, The number of parameter names does not match the number of registered parameters.
    if all named parameters are used only once, then my program works fine.
    My old program uses Oracle Forms to run the attached PL/SQL block correctly, I just want to run them in JDBC without more efforts, I don't want to rewrite all PL/SQL blocks.
    Does oracle driver support this case? why the PL/SQL block can work in Oracle Forms but failed in JDBC?
    Can we have an another solutions to avoid rewriting the PL/SQL block to stored procedure?
    if I use following SQL:
    BEGIN if :q is null then :q := 'X'; else :q := 'Y'; end if; END;
    , Using java program:
    import java.sql.*; public class RunPLSQLBlock { public static void main(String s[]) throws SQLException { String URL = "jdbc:oracle:thin:@192.168.11.199:1521:TIBSTEST"; Connection con = null; try { Class.forName("oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver"); con = (Connection) DriverManager.getConnection(URL, "FBP1DEV", "FBP1DEV"); String SQL = "BEGIN  if :q is null then  :q := 'X'; else :q := 'Y'; end if; END;"; CallableStatement stmt = con.prepareCall(SQL); stmt.registerOutParameter("q", Types.VARCHAR); stmt.setString("q", "A"); stmt.execute(); } catch (Exception e) { e.printStackTrace(); } finally { if (con != null) { con.close(); } } } }
    in the coding, only "q" registered, I got:
    java.sql.SQLException: The number of parameter names does not match the number of registered praremeters at oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleSql.setNamedParameters(OracleSql.java:314) at oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleCallableStatement.execute(OracleCallableStatement.java:10096) at oracle.jdbc.driver.OraclePreparedStatementWrapper.execute(OraclePreparedStatementWrapper.java:5693) at RunPLSQLBlock.main(RunPLSQLBlock.java:28)
    now, tried to register 3 indexes, changed fragments are below.
    import java.sql.*; public class RunPLSQLBlock { public static void main(String s[]) throws SQLException { String URL = "jdbc:oracle:thin:@192.168.11.199:1521:TIBSTEST"; Connection con = null; try { Class.forName("oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver"); con = (Connection) DriverManager.getConnection(URL, "FBP1DEV", "FBP1DEV"); String SQL = "BEGIN  if :q is null then  :q := 'X'; else :q := 'Y'; end if; END;"; CallableStatement stmt = con.prepareCall(SQL); stmt.registerOutParameter(1, Types.VARCHAR); stmt.registerOutParameter(2, Types.VARCHAR); stmt.registerOutParameter(3, Types.VARCHAR); stmt.setString(1, "A"); stmt.execute(); } catch (Exception e) { e.printStackTrace(); } finally { if (con != null) { con.close(); } } } }
    now error changed to:
    java.sql.SQLException: ORA-01006: bind variable does not exist at oracle.jdbc.driver.T4CTTIoer.processError(T4CTTIoer.java:457) at oracle.jdbc.driver.T4CTTIoer.processError(T4CTTIoer.java:400) at oracle.jdbc.driver.T4C8Oall.processError(T4C8Oall.java:926) at oracle.jdbc.driver.T4CTTIfun.receive(T4CTTIfun.java:476) at oracle.jdbc.driver.T4CTTIfun.doRPC(T4CTTIfun.java:200) at oracle.jdbc.driver.T4C8Oall.doOALL(T4C8Oall.java:543) at oracle.jdbc.driver.T4CCallableStatement.doOall8(T4CCallableStatement.java:208) at oracle.jdbc.driver.T4CCallableStatement.executeForRows(T4CCallableStatement.java:1416) at oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleStatement.doExecuteWithTimeout(OracleStatement.java:1757) at oracle.jdbc.driver.OraclePreparedStatement.executeInternal(OraclePreparedStatement.java:4372) at oracle.jdbc.driver.OraclePreparedStatement.execute(OraclePreparedStatement.java:4595) at oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleCallableStatement.execute(OracleCallableStatement.java:10100) at oracle.jdbc.driver.OraclePreparedStatementWrapper.execute(OraclePreparedStatementWrapper.java:5693) at RunPLSQLBlock.main(RunPLSQLBlock.java:26)
    , now tried register only 1 position like below,
      CallableStatement stmt = con.prepareCall(SQL);   stmt.registerOutParameter(1, Types.VARCHAR);   stmt.setString(1, "A");   stmt.execute();
    , it says:
    java.sql.SQLException: Missing IN or OUT parameter at index:: 2 at oracle.jdbc.driver.OraclePreparedStatement.processCompletedBindRow(OraclePreparedStatement.java:2177) at oracle.jdbc.driver.OraclePreparedStatement.executeInternal(OraclePreparedStatement.java:4356) at oracle.jdbc.driver.OraclePreparedStatement.execute(OraclePreparedStatement.java:4595) at oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleCallableStatement.execute(OracleCallableStatement.java:10100) at oracle.jdbc.driver.OraclePreparedStatementWrapper.execute(OraclePreparedStatementWrapper.java:5693) at RunPLSQLBlock.main(RunPLSQLBlock.java:26)
    , now let try a OK case, which use all named parameters only once. coding like below, SQL and Java listed below.
    BEGIN if :q is null then :r := 'X'; else :s := 'Y'; end if; EXCEPTION   WHEN NO_DATA_FOUND THEN     NULL; END;
    import java.sql.*; public class RunPLSQLBlock { public static void main(String s[]) throws SQLException { String URL = "jdbc:oracle:thin:@192.168.11.199:1521:TIBSTEST"; Connection con = null; try { Class.forName("oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver"); con = (Connection) DriverManager.getConnection(URL, "FBP1DEV", "FBP1DEV"); String SQL = "BEGIN  if :q is null then  :r := 'X'; else :s := 'Y'; end if; END;"; CallableStatement stmt = con.prepareCall(SQL); stmt.registerOutParameter("q", Types.VARCHAR); stmt.registerOutParameter("r", Types.VARCHAR); stmt.registerOutParameter("s", Types.VARCHAR); stmt.setString("q", "A"); stmt.execute(); System.out.println("Q :" + stmt.getString("q")); System.out.println("R :" + stmt.getString("r")); System.out.println("S :" + stmt.getString("s")); } catch (Exception e) { e.printStackTrace(); } finally { if (con != null) { con.close(); } } } }
    , the case give us the following output:
    Q :A R :null S :Y
    2nd part, I also tried another scheme, to use 'execute immediate', test code attached below, it also have errors.
    begin execute immediate 'begin if :q is null then :q := ''X''; else :q := ''Y''; :r := ''Z''; end if; end;' using in out :q, out :r; end;
    , Java Code:
    import java.sql.*; public class RunDynamicSQL { public static void main(String s[]) throws SQLException { String URL = "jdbc:oracle:thin:@192.168.11.199:1521:TIBSTEST"; Connection con = null; try { Class.forName("oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver"); con = (Connection) DriverManager.getConnection(URL, "FBP1DEV", "FBP1DEV"); String SQL ="begin execute immediate 'begin if :q is null then :q := ''X''; else :q := ''Y''; :r := ''Z''; end if; end;' using in out :q, out :r; end;"; CallableStatement stmt = con.prepareCall(SQL); stmt.registerOutParameter("q", Types.VARCHAR); stmt.registerOutParameter("r", Types.VARCHAR); stmt.setString("q", "A"); stmt.execute(); System.out.println("Q :" + stmt.getString("q")); System.out.println("R :" + stmt.getString("r")); } catch (Exception e) { e.printStackTrace(); } finally { if (con != null) { con.close(); } } } }
    , the output is, we can find when parameter 'q' is IN OUT mode, we can't get its final value:
    Q :null R :Z
    , now I tried my workaround, it works fine by using a temporary variable, now my named parameter is split to 2 roles, one is for IN, another is for OUT, now I can get final out value.
    declare q clob; r clob; begin q := ?; r := ?; execute immediate 'begin if :q is null then :q := ''X''; else :q := ''Y''; :r := ''Z''; end if; end;' using in out q, out r; ? := q; ? := r; end;
    , my test java code,
    import java.sql.*; public class RunDynamicSQL { public static void main(String s[]) throws SQLException { String URL = "jdbc:oracle:thin:@192.168.11.199:1521:TIBSTEST"; Connection con = null; try { Class.forName("oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver"); con = (Connection) DriverManager.getConnection(URL, "FBP1DEV", "FBP1DEV"); String SQL ="declare q clob;r clob; begin q := ?; r := ?; execute immediate 'begin if :q is null then :q := ''X''; else :q := ''Y''; :r := ''Z''; end if; end;' using in out q, out r; ? := q; ? := r; end;"; CallableStatement stmt = con.prepareCall(SQL); stmt.registerOutParameter(3, Types.VARCHAR); stmt.registerOutParameter(4, Types.VARCHAR); stmt.setString(1, "A"); stmt.setString(2, "A"); stmt.execute(); System.out.println("Q :" + stmt.getString(3)); System.out.println("R :" + stmt.getString(4)); } catch (Exception e) { e.printStackTrace(); } finally { if (con != null) { con.close(); } } } }
    , the output is expected,
    Q :Y R :Z

    Hi, thanks for your response, now I see, the named parameter is for stored procedure only, for PL/SQL block we name it placeholder name.
    After cast my java.sql.CallableStatement to oracle.jdbc.OracleCallableStatement, I can find setStringAtName,
    now, I have only one question:I can't find corresponding methods for registerOutputParameter, how we fetch output value?
    I tried to callableStatement.getString("q"); it reports errors, but there are no ordinal binding in my source code, does placeholder names doesn't support OUT mode?
    Java:
    CallableStatement stmt = con.prepareCall("BEGIN  if :q is null then  :r := 'X'; else :s := 'Y'; end if; END;");
    oracle.jdbc.OracleCallableStatement call = (oracle.jdbc.OracleCallableStatement) stmt;
    call.registerOutParameter("q", Types.VARCHAR);
    call.registerOutParameter("r", Types.VARCHAR);
    call.registerOutParameter("s", Types.VARCHAR);
    call.setStringAtName("q", "A");
    call.setStringAtName("r", "A");
    call.setStringAtName("s", "A");
    call.execute();
    System.out.println("Q :" + call.getString("q"));
    </Java>
    <output>
    java.sql.SQLException: 不允许的操作: Ordinal binding and Named binding cannot be combined!
         at oracle.jdbc.driver.DatabaseError.throwSqlException(DatabaseError.java:112)
         at oracle.jdbc.driver.DatabaseError.throwSqlException(DatabaseError.java:146)
         at oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleCallableStatement.getString(OracleCallableStatement.java:2834)
         at RunPLSQLBlock.main(RunPLSQLBlock.java:33)
    </output>by the way, in my below-mentioned SQL 'problematic', when my code uses 'execute immediate' and use placeholder names in IN OUT mode, we always get NULL value (i.e. ':q'), but we can get final value of ':r' when ':r' is OUT mode only; now I get a workaround attached in below-mentioned 'my workaround' block, which split the IN OUT roles to 2 parts, it can work now;
    It seems that the difference between 'problematic' and 'my workaround' imply that there are something work unexpectedly when the driver process the placeholder names, because 'my workaround' and ':r in problematic case' make sure the 'execute immediate' returned output values correctly, unluckly driver layer can't get return values.
    <SQL name = 'problematic'>
    begin
         execute immediate 'begin if :q is null then :q := ''X''; else :q := ''Y''; :r := ''Z''; end if; end;'
         using in out :q, out :r;
    end;
    </SQL>
    <SQL name='my workaround'>
    declare
         q clob;
         r clob;
    begin
         q := ?;
         r := ?;
         execute immediate 'begin if :q is null then :q := ''X''; else :q := ''Y''; :r := ''Z''; end if; end;' using in out q, out r;
         ? := q;
         ? := r;

  • How to Use the Procedures in a Sql Query

    Hi Friends,
    Can anyone help me out whether can we use the procedure in the sql query..
    if yes help me out with an example
    my requirement is
    i have one sql query .. in which i need to use the procedure which returns multiple values... how can i overcome it,can anyone help me out for this..
    for your reference i am pasting the sql query
    SELECT paf.person_id
    FROM per_all_assignments_f paf START WITH paf.person_id = p_person_id
    AND paf.primary_flag = 'Y'
    AND paf.assignment_type IN('E', 'C')
    AND l_effective_date BETWEEN paf.effective_start_date
    AND paf.effective_end_date
    CONNECT BY PRIOR paf.supervisor_id = paf.person_id
    AND paf.primary_flag = 'Y'
    AND paf.assignment_type IN('E', 'C')
    AND l_effective_date BETWEEN paf.effective_start_date
    AND paf.effective_end_date
    and paf.person_id not in (>>>I HAVE TO USE THE PROCEDURE HERE<<<<);
    Thanks in advance

    We never saw your procedure, but maybe you could wrap it in a function
    SQL> create or replace procedure get_members(in_something IN number, out_members OUT sys_refcursor)
    is
    begin
      open out_members for
        'select level member_id from dual connect by level <= :num' using in_something;
    end get_members;
    Procedure created.
    SQL> create or replace type numbers as table of number;
    Type created.
    SQL> create or replace function members(in_something IN number)
    return numbers
    as
      member_cur sys_refcursor;
      members numbers;
    begin
      get_members(in_something, member_cur);
      fetch member_cur bulk collect into members;
      close member_cur;
      return members;
    end;
    Function created.
    SQL> select * from  table(members(4));
    COLUMN_VALUE
               1
               2
               3
               4
    4 rows selected.Variant on same using piplined function
    SQL> create or replace function members_piped(in_something IN number)
    return numbers pipelined
    as
      member_cur sys_refcursor;
      rec number;
    begin
      get_members(in_something, member_cur);
      loop
         fetch member_cur into rec;
         exit when member_cur%notfound;
         pipe row(rec);
      end loop;
      close member_cur;
      return;
    end;
    Function created.
    SQL> select * from  table(members_piped(4));
    COLUMN_VALUE
               1
               2
               3
               4
    4 rows selected.
    SQL> drop function members_piped;
    Function dropped.
    SQL> drop function members;
    Function dropped.
    SQL> drop type numbers;
    Type dropped.
    SQL> drop procedure get_members;
