Using font created by createFont

Hello,
I have created a font using a TTF font file as follows:
FileInputStream fis = new FileInputStream("font.ttf"]);
f = Font.createFont(Font.TRUETYPE_FONT, fis);
If I create instance of this font and apply this to a textfield using
setFont method, the displayed text in the text field is too small that
we cant see it.
If we apply the method deriveFont(int size) to font before passing it
to setFont and giving a large value of size, it won't work and we can't
see it.
How to overcome this problem? Any suggestions?
-Sameer

I was able to do this using XMLBeans. It is not an ideal solution for many but it works for me. If it works for you great if not no worries.
So you do your wsdlc ect..
Then you have to run the xmlbean ant task on your schema(s) this basically will generate XMLBeans.
Then you will need to modify your interface created and the POJO of course to match the interface. All parameters and return values need to be changed to the XMLBean instead of the POJO that was generated by wsdlc. So you will probably want to extract the interface from your jar and keep in source control.
Then you need to update the jar created by wsdlc. Delete everything except the Manifest, wsdl and xsds. The rest can be ignored and deleted such as the bindings, pojos, ect...
Now you can go from XML -> Object and Object -> XML
You will probably want to write an ant task to do all the manual work such as updating the jar file, ect.. You can even write an ant task to replace all Pojos from your interface to XMLBeans but this step should probably stay manual and you should probably keep your interface in source control.
This works for me since my WSDL doesnt change very often especially once in production. With Eclipse its easy to do a CTRL + Shift + O to import or CTRL + Space to autocomplete the XMLBean so this step even though it is manual it's a fast step.
Anyway if it helps you great if not maybe it'll help someone else.

  • How to use font created in ifontmaker on my ipad?

Can anyone help me ? I downloaded the application and created my custom made font but do not know how to install it on my ipad. The instructions on the ifontmaker website say, once you create the font and send it to the website download the font and install it. From here you should be ready to use it.
When I hit "download the font" from the website I get a msg asking what other app I'd like to open it with. My choices are dropbox, documents, filer lite...
None of these apps lets me install the font. I would like to use the new font mainly for pictures( I use ps touch) and it should be possible as a lot of people say that they do that...here is an example.
    http://www.meetthemasks.com/ifontmaker/
This girls says she downloads the font to download folder? Is there such a thing on ipad? How do I access it?
I have been trying to figure it out for hours and can't get anywhere with it. I will appreciate if anyone guides me through the process and helps me with that!

Once they are marked as junk, any future emails from them will be sent to the junk or spam folder, thus I will still be receiving emails from them, they a just routed to a different location in my email. If this is correct, I would like to completely block the email address and prevent them from sending me emails versus routing them to my junk box. I appreciate your time with helping me on this matter.

Does this essentially mean there is no way to fix this problem on my end? It's a pity because the design and branding of my brochure will suffer if I remove transparencies and use different fonts. It also concerns me moving forward because it means the quality of print on my pieces will be significantly lower because most commercial printers use Adobe products.

  • Problems using projects created in older versions of iMovie

I have a few projects created in older versions of iMovie, as far back as version 2 as well as more recent versions. Most of those projects are finished and I want to burn them to DVD again, but a couple of them could bear a little touch up editing. These projects are precious movies of our kids and hard to replace. Although I could probably find the original video, I put many hours of work into creating these projects.
In any case, when I open up an old project, I get a warning that goes something like this: "The project was saved with an older version of iMovie. Opening it in this version will cause it to be upgraded, which will make it unreadable by older versions. Are you sure you want to open it?"
I clicked okay, thinking "sure, I don't need to play it in an older version. I have iMovie HD."
However, now when I play my old iMovie project, there are a few problems. For example, one original movie's title was over black. When I play the movie, I get a completely white screen and no title. Also, in another movie, when viewing the movie in full screen, the transitions were replaced by a black screen (although the transitions were there when I viewed the movie in the iMovie window). Basically, there are problems cropping up here and there.
I need to do some more experimenting with all this to more fully understand how many problems there are. I don't know if the projects I opened in iMovie HD are now "broken" since I "upgraded" them with iMovie HD (when prompted to save the project's changes when quitting, I said NO, don't save changes).
I don't know if I should use older versions of iMovie to view and burn to DVD these projects. (I still have iMovie 2 and 3, but not 4 or 5. I don't know if older versions would even work on my Quad G5 with OS 10.4.7.) I also don't know if the older versions of iMovie would work with the current version of iDVD. How can I tell which version of iMovie was originally used for a given project? How can I find iMovie 4 or 5 if I need it?
I also wonder if projects I make with iMovie HD can be opened by future versions of iMovie, or if I should export them as Quicktime or something to be safe.
As I start to look into this further, I would appreciate any comments, suggestions, and experiences that you may be able to offer. I need to get these movies back to their former selves, when they looked good!

(when prompted to save the project's changes when
quitting, I said NO, don't save changes).
Excellent! That should leave you in pretty good shape. More below.
I don't know if I should use older versions of iMovie
to view and burn to DVD these projects. (I still have
    iMovie 2 and 3, but not 4 or 5. I don't know if older
versions would even work on my Quad G5 with OS
    10.4.7.)
The old versions of iMovie will run just fine in today's OSX. (But not iMovie 2 if it was the version that ran in Classic instead of Mac OSX.)
I run versions 2,3,4,5 and 6 today. Problems are minimal.
I also don't know if the older versions of
iMovie would work with the current version of iDVD.
That's not a problem unless your old iMovie projects contain chapters. If you tell iMovie 3 to create a new iDVD project, it might not work. You might not be able to transfer the chapter information to the newer version of iDVD.
(I just tested iMovie 3 to iDVD 6 and everything worked just fine.)
Except for iMovie 2, all old versions of iMovie stored a small QuickTime reference movie in the project folder. If you can't get an old version of iMovie to play nice with iDVD, drag that movie into the iDVD window.
How can I tell which version of iMovie was originally
    used for a given project?
Drop the project file (discussed below) onto the TextEdit icon in the Dock. The version of iMovie that last saved the project is shown in the first few lines of the project file.
iMovie 5 used an entirely different project file format, the pList format. The top of the project file will look like this in TextEdit:
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
    <!DOCTYPE plist PUBLIC "-//Apple Computer//DTD PLIST 1.0//EN" "http://www.apple.com/DTDs/PropertyList-1.0.dtd">
    <plist version="1.0">
    <dict>
How can I find iMovie 4 or
    5 if I need it?
    eBay?
I also wonder if projects I make with iMovie HD can
be opened by future versions of iMovie, or if I
should export them as Quicktime or something to be
    safe.
We can never assume any new version of iMovie will be able to understand all features of a older project. It's always smart to make a backup.
There can be problems Apple can't anticipate. There may be third-party software used to create titles, transitions and special effects, plug-ins not installed with the new version or (more often, incompatible). The fonts installed on our Mac may have changed too. There's lots of features that can't be anticipated. I've never had a problem converting projects, but I never use third-party add-ons and special fonts.
As I start to look into this further, I would
appreciate any comments, suggestions, and experiences
that you may be able to offer. I need to get these
movies back to their former selves, when they looked
    good!
My guess is it should be possible to restore the projects back to their original state.
Note that when imovie 5/6 converts an older project, it does NOT create a true iMovie HD project. Instead of creating an iMovie package, it retains the project FOLDER format. It places new iMovie HD elements inside the old project folder instead of converting it to a package.
When converting the project it changes the old project file name to "Sample Project Name.iMovie2Project", then creates a NEW project file with the plist format, having the name "Sample Project Name.iMovieProj". (There may NOT be the .iMovieProj extension.) When you save the new project, it adds a new project file "Sample Project Name.~iMovieProj". Note the tilde. The tilde file is a backup of the project file as it was when last saved in iMovie HD.
For our purposes, ignore the iMovie HD project files. We'll use the file ".iMovie2Project" to restore the project. (The extension is the same for all old versions of iMovie, not just iMovie 2.)
    • In the Finder, Duplicate the entire project folder. Work on the copy.
    • Open the project folder in the Finder.
    • Discard the "Cache" folder, the "Shared Movies" folder, the "Audio Waveforms" folder and the two iMovie HD project files. (Some of those items may not yet exist yet because you didn't save the converted project.)
    • Drop the "Sample Project Name.iMovie2Project" file onto the TextEdit icon in the Dock to get the version. Close it.
    • Remove the ".iMovie2Project" extension, if you want.
    • Launch that version of iMovie. Drop the "Sample Project Name.iMovie2Project" file icon on the iMovie icon in the Dock. With luck, the project should open normally. It's possible any third-party plug-ins used to create the project may not be available. If they aren't available, there might still be problems.
    • Move your unconverted projects to folders that say which version of iMovie created them. To open them in the future, drop the project icon on the appropriate version of iMovie.
If all this fails, there is another way to do the editing you want. That is to import the project.mov file that's inside the converted project folder to a new iMovie HD project. That will deliver the video and audio of the original project as a single clip. Use that to re-edit the project. The name of the movie is "Sample Project Name.mov".
(The movie is a QuickTime reference movie, with no video and audio of its own, just pointers to the files in the Media folder. So long as the Media folder hasn't changed, it can play the original project as last saved.)
Importing the project.mov won't work with iMovie 2 projects, however, for iMovie 2 didn't store a project.mov file in the project folder.
Even if you end up importing the project.mov, you still may want to "unconvert" the project as described above.
Hope I haven't skipped a step. Let me know if you bump your head on something.

  • Using fonts when launching from JNLP

    Hello,
I followed the directions in this link http://fxexperience.com/2010/05/how-to-embed-fonts/ and was able to add and use fonts in my javafx program when launched from Netbeans. But when I try to launch from JNLP, the fonts do not show up (the text shows up as Arial).
Is there something special I need to do to access the fonts in the jar and utilize them?
As the link directed I created a fonts folder in my src folder where I store all the .ttf file, and created a fonts.mf file in META-INF where I map a name to the font file. Works fine when launching from netbeans.
thanks in advance for your help
    jose

I've found the problem! It's the timestamp for the JNLP file. But unfortunately I can't figure out the workaround as yet.
To explain the problem it would be best to start with my application's installation procedure:
The applcation is installed by way of CD (using javaws -import) as downloading an 8mb jar file over dialup is unwieldy. Subsequent updates are retrieved from the server. Jardiffs are sent back to the webstart client so updates over dialup becomes manageble.
The application jar file in the CD is version 1.0. Let's say the server is now at version 1.3 with the timestamp 2005-10-01 00:00:00.
The user installs the application using the CD today which gives his JNLP file the timestamp of 2005-10-03 00:00:00.
When the application is started, it calls the server to check for updates. Although the JNLP file returned from the server specifically states that the current version is at version 1.3 Java Web Start insists on using the timestamp to perform the comparison first.
Since the timestamp of the JNLP file in the user's pc is dated later than the JNLP file in the server, Java Web Start ignores the version checking and assumes that the application in the server is the latest and greatest.
Has anyone encountered a similiar situation? The only solution I can think of is to hack the JNLPDownloadServlet to return a date that's way in the future so that Java Web Start picks up the changes... sigh.
Is it possible to disable the timestamp checking for the JNLP files? As again, help is mucho appreciated and there are 10 duke dollars at stake too :)

  • Sync Fonts (using Font Book) with other computers

Just purchased a new Intel iMac. Is there any method used to sync all my fonts from 3 other macs used at my studio. I would like to use Font Book and make it as easy as possible.
I use Photoshop CS2 and InDesign CS and I am sure they came with fonts loaded in both of those programs (at least I ASSUME they do...).
I want to sync the fonts so that if I bring up a photoshop file (or indesign file) that was created on one computer to another I don't get the message that I am 'missing fonts'.
Anyone know how to do this???

It's not clear what you're asking about. There no fonts button to push. However, there is a preference setting for automatic font activation. AFAIK, font book is a font management and validation tool. If the fonts are located in /Library/Fonts/, then they should be available for all users.
Aside from Font Book help, these might point you in the right direction:

  • Shared network font library - using Font Book

I'm a trying to set up a "font server" on my company's OS X Server. I have created a folder within the SHARED ITEMS folder called Library, and placed all the fonts within a FONTS folder. I can now mount the folder on a clients/artists desktop just fine, so the shared point is working.
The problem is, I don't want to have to mount another "drive" to the artists desktop. I want the artists to use Font Book with a "Network" globe to which they can use the fonts.
I've been trying to figure out how to do this....and I think it may have somthing to do with the /Network/Library....it's an alias that seems to be broken. Shouldn't the "Library" alias be a folder???
Here is the Library alias info:
    Kind: Alias
    Size: 1kb on disk
    Where: /Network
    Server: nfs://automount%20-nsl%20%5B142]
    Original: /automount/Library
It's interesting that it says "nfs://" because I've got it set up as "AFP" on the server.
    Any suggestions?

    PowerMac G5 Dual   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

If you use Workgroup Manager and your clients are bound to the server via LDAP - try this, it works for us.
On your server, put a folder called "Library" wherever you wish (outside of System and Library for the Server itself and not inside another shared item). Put a folder called "Fonts" in the new "Library" folder
    Open WGM
    Go to Sharing
    Select "All"
Find and Select your "Library" folder
Under General select "share item and contents"
Under Access set permissions - ours are Root rw, Admin rw, Everyone read only. Propogate permissions to the contained folders.
Under Protocols disable any protocols you don't plan to use. With AFP make sure it is called "Library" and that guest access is possible. We have all other protocols disabled.
Under Network Mount select "enable network mounting," choose AFP as protocol and make sure that the mount is Used for "shared library"
If your clients are bound to the server via LDAP, reboot them and the client machines will connect to the server and use your new shared "Library" there as an option after the "Library" folders in the client machine itself. The new library will not need to be mounted on the users desktop as it will already be mounted by the client itself. The fonts will show up in Font Book under Network.
Put your fonts in the "Fonts" folder in the new "Library" folder on the server and all clients should now be able to access them. You can put other Library items in the network accessable folder just like the fonts and have them accessable to all bound clients.
    hope this helps

is there a way to see what fonts are used in an illustrator document without opening it.
maybe an applescript or something, but it should not be a third party app or plug-in.
by the way: it should work with mac os x

Perhaps you missed these key parts of the inquiry.

The package feature that you mentioned requires them to have Illustrator and actually open each document in order to create, utilize and see such a report.

  • Using fonts from illustrator in a logo

Are you free to use fonts from illustrator/photoshop in business logo's?

On behalf of Adobe Systems Incorporated ...
This (that “you can copy and send the fonts for a reproduction house for the sole purpose of reproducing that particular piece or job”) is absolutely not true! In fact it is not true for any of Adobe's fonts!
What is true is that your ability to send, share, or even embed fonts is dependent upon the EULA (End User License Agreement) for each and every font you use in your content. And, by the way, any restrictions in the EULA legally override any embedding permissions that might be set in the font itself for TrueType and OpenType fonts!
Other than for fonts that are explicitly labeled as public domain or freeware, it is exceptionally uncommon for any font foundry – and that includes Adobe and Monotype (Monotype now includes Linotype, ITC, and Bitstream) – to permit licensees to simply package and send fonts along with the base document (Illustrator .AI, InDesign .INDD, etc.) and other digital assets to a print service provider with one exception. That exception – and that exception is not universal but does apply to fonts licensed from Adobe – is that such fonts may be sent to a print service provider as long as the print service provider is also licensed for those fonts. Well, what good is that you may ask? The reason for this is that there are subtle differences between versions of fonts released over time including improvements and corrections. Adobe does allow users to make local modifications of fonts as well while maintaining actually ownership of the fonts. To deal with both these cases, Adobe does allow fonts to be sent with original source files to print service providers if and only if the print service provider also has a license for such fonts. The need for such a license is exactly why Adobe markets its Font Folio product to print service providers; it fulfills the licensing requirement for their customers sending original documents with fonts to them either for reproduction and/or editing.
One of the reasons why Adobe has been so much behind PDF workflows is that for many fonts (including all those licensed from Adobe), you may embed the fonts in the PDF files you create from you content, send the resultant PDF file to your print service provider for reproduction or to a publication for embedding in their content (such as for advertisements) and neither you nor the recipient needs to pay any further licensing fee.
However, you should note one further restriction. Some font foundries (including all the font brands of Monotype) allow for fonts to be embedded in PDF files, but except for private distribution of such PDF files (including to print service providers and publishers), requirement additional royalty payments for distribution of PDF files in which their fonts are embedded! Note that Adobe has no such restrictions on any fonts the fonts it licenses!
I know that the above information may conflict with both what many in the industry practice and believe is true, but those licenses are indeed legally enforceable. We are in fact aware of font foundries that run webbots looking for PDF files with their fonts embedded for which royalties have not been paid. The fact that many content providers and print service providers have blatantly ignored the font licenses in the past does not provide a tenable legal excuse for ignoring font licenses now.
              - Dov
PS:     To address the original question in this thread, you may use the fonts provided with any Adobe software in your content such as logos (even if they are created with non-Adobe software while you are licensed for the Adobe software) and you may distribute such artwork to others with the fonts as long as that is distributed in the form of either PDF files or EPS files with the fonts embedded. (Adobe most strongly recommends PDF over EPS for modern, reliable workflows!)

Meanwhile, that is a great tip to do an alternate back-up using a different means.  It's been tough to figure out how to "preserve access" to digital images and files for posterity, knowing the hardware will always fail/obsolesce sooner or later, and that "clouds" are only as good as their consistent and reliable accessibility.  Upping the odds with redundancy will help dull the edge of my "access anxiety", though logically, it can never relieve it.  Will look into

It's a recurring challenge for me.\ 'cause I like using smart albums, but once in a while need to check or chane the passwords.

    Raphael,
that message may occur for four reasons at least:
Most frequently, when you are using an outdated link to a post that no longer exists, for example from an email notofication. Sometimes our community host will remove posts, that are in violation of the terms of use: see:
Apple Support Communities Terms of Use
Or you are using the edit button or a bookmark to an "Edit" window, after the fifteen minutes allowed for editing are up.
Or you want to view a page in a restricted section of the ASC - soem perta are only open for members of level 6 or higher.
Or it is one  of the unexplained problems with the forum software right now.

I really like Kirby's suggestion with the IPTC rule Keyword is. This is very useful for smart albums global to the library.
Frequently a different approach helps for my smart albums. Many of my smart albums are local to projects or folders.  In this case the smart HUD will only show those keywords that have been used for the images in the selection. So if I only have tagged the images with the keywords "birds" and "slideshow", the smart settings HUD will only show these two keywords and the list is very short.
My Keywords HUD, is organized hierarchically; this way I can collapse large sections at once, and it is easier to focus on the keywords needed for a specific task.
I use the search field in HUD a lot, to filter the set of keywords shown.
