Using Forms through ODBC

Hi guys!
I've got a strong wish to use Forms6i, but... My desire is some strange. Because I want to use Oracle Forms and Reports to develop application for MSSQLServer. Please say to me it is possible. Should I tune Net8 for that purpose? If I should, please tell me how. Perhaps everything is easy and simple way exists for example: connecting string like this ODBC:ORCL:1251@scott/tiger or something like that.

When you install Forms and Reports you need to install a component called the OCA (oracle Client Adaptor) as well. This will allow you to use ODBC: connect strings. See the oca_info.pdf file that gets installed with the OCA for more info.

Date datatype conversion through ODBC

Using Form5 when datatype date is entered or modified, the save
command gives error FRM-40508 unable to insert record or unable
to update record. When checked under help to display error, the
message in OCA-30010 error in data conversion by ODBC. The
record in the database entered through command line having date
field show alright in the form but if it is modified then the
error start coming. The default date format (DD-MON-YYYY) is
uded.
Can you please let me know the reason of this error and how date
datatype can be entered in the record using Forms with ODBC
connectivity.

If you need to pass the string parameter value to a command object as a date then you will need to use a subreport that is based on the commadn object. The main report will have the string date parameter and in a formula in the main report convert the string to a date. Link the subreport on this formula to the commadn object parameter

Queries through ODBC using MS Access Frontend

Hello,
I am working as data analyst in Business Finance team of a large company. Our team uses Oracle as back-end server for data warehousing needs. We have been provided ODBC connections to pull out data from oracle. We use MS-Access as a front-end to access data from Oracle. I am quite comfortable in writing macros in VBA and we have written a lot of code to format our reports once data is in Excel. The only problem we face is that queries in MS Access take very long to return data (sometimes we run the queries and go home. the next day when we come to office, data is pulled out, hopefully). I tried to use pass-through queries in Access, they provide some performance enhancement but they have their own problems.
Is there a solution to this riddle, which is cost effective and efficient? Also I am interested in learning Oracle SQL. What is the best way?

Since you have posted on the BI forum why not consider the following;
1. Oracle Business Intelligence suite Enterprise Edition (OBIEE) integrates with Microsoft Office;
i) MS Office plug-ins give you an extra menu option in Excel and PowerPoint to connect to a single view of your information using the common enterprise information model on your Business Intelligence Server.
ii) Answers allows you to save your ad hoc querys as a web query for MS Excel (*.iqy).
iii) Publisher allows you to "Analyse in Excel" your data for your reports. Publisher Desktop allows to to build report layouts using template builder plug-in for MS Word.
2. Oracle Hyperion Smart View for Office is also a tool for accessing content from Microsoft Office products. This works with Oracle Hyperion Essbase OLAP server as well as Oracle BI Server.
On the rodamap, in the next major release due out this year, Oracle Business Intelligence 11g, I believe these 2 products, OBIEE office plug-ins and Smart View for Office will be merged into one comprehensive end user tool.

Displaying Adobe Form through CRM WEB UI

Hi Experts,
Currently I am working on CRM Technical which is very new to me. I've got a requirement to display the Adobe form through CRM WEB UI. The requirement is like this.
In a screen of WEB UI there is a option of OUTPUT preview. When i select the specific billing document and when i click on OUTPUT Preview tab it should display the Adobe Form which was developed in SAP GUI using txn SFP. I have done some R&D on it and i found that an ACTION Profile need to be created for this kind of requirements. But in my research i found only Smartforms can be displayed using the ACTION point.. Could anyone help me out how to display the Adobe Form using the Action......

Hi Robert,
I came across this post after implementing the same solution. It works fine for me in SAPgui, i.e. it creates an entry in the spool which I can priview or print, but when I use the webUI it just opens a new window with a white background and the message 'Error in smartform'.
Nitin, did you manage to come up with any solution? Or did this work for you?

What is the minimal number of open ports needed to use forms apps

Our network administrators are doing a network segmentation / security project and they want to make it so that only authorized users can ping or see my oracle EBS server on the network, but they also want to lock down all ports that users can see, except for port 8000, which is the port we use to serve EBS on apache. I am having an argument with them. Because we use forms in socket mode, I am arguing that we need to keep all ports open because forms uses a port range and creates a socket with the users's PC in addition to holding/maintaining the Apache connection. My network administrator is saying no, it holds the socket connection in the background and they only need "access" to port 8000. I would agree with them if I was using servlet mode, but I don't think they are correct in socket mode. What port range do I need to make sure they allow through in addition to port 8000? BTW we use all the standard ports in EBS (eg 8000 is the out-of-the-box Apache port). Note also we have have single tier 11.5.10.2 installation on a solaris sparc server, so the ports that the 11i apps needs to interact / connect with itself is not relevant to the question. Also, the IT group (me) will still have access to all ports to do telnet, ssh, ping etc, we are only talking about from our end users's PCs. They are telling me to install Wireshark to find out more, and do some testing which I will - but I want to know what to expect.

Ok I have read the above documentation extensively. One thing that is quite clear is that if I switched to servlet mode, then all traffic goes through the Apache port (in my case 8000) and that would be the only port users need access too -- and this would be like setting up a DMZ or firewall inside the intranet. However, given that I am having performance issues, I need to know how to do this using forms in socket mode.
So for example in MOS 414439.1 it lists the entire ports and port pools. So I've taken that list, and separated it into groups One and Two (see below). My question is: To access EBS in the intranet by users, which of the ports in Group One is needed? And are all of the ports in group Two NOT needed? thanks in advance. Marv.

Error when trying to access a form through https

I'm facing this error when trying to access a form through https, i'm using OAS10g 10.1.2.3 over linux, it has webutil configured and is working perfectly with https

Unable to import tables through ODBC in obiee 11g

Hi all,
In obiee 11g,
OBIEE 11g is successfully installed but when i am trying to import the tables in RPD through odbc then it is giving a problem.
I have tried using the OCI and it is working fine but can anyone tell me why it is not happening through odbc.
created the dSN for it and it is working fine.

Access to fields of a form through IAC

Hello everyone!
I created with Adobe LiveCycle Designer ES2 (included with Adobe Acrobat X Pro) an example form with several fields.
After that I wanted to access the fields through the Acrobat SDK's Interapplication Communication (IAC) capability by using OLE.
As programming language I choose C# from the .NET framework. But the only field that I could access was the signature field and only when it was signed. I could not figure out the mistake. Is my code wrong? Or is the created form wrong? Can somebody help?

Your PHP script is not secured at all. I would recommend using Forms To Go (http://www.bebosoft.com/products/formstogo/overview) to create the PHP script.
The unregistered version can be used for free. It will get you up and running in no time.
In your HTML form,remove enctype="multipart/form-data" from this:

enctype="multipart/form-data" is only required if you have a file upload field in the form.

Problem in Creating Default Form Through DI API

Hi All,
I am using the below code to create UDO and make it as Default Form through DI API. But the Default Form property is not getting set, that is the Default Form is not being created. The UDO is getting created. Any help is appreciated.

Hi you can pass the parameter using application program. You can pass the value using the interface of the function module given below.

Connect PostgreSQL to Oracle 10g through ODBC: can't read all_tables

Oracle 10g is not able to read the database table names (all_tables and all_objects, es. select * from all_tables@hspostgresodbc) from PostgreSQL using ODBC (v. 08.01.0200). This functionality is essential to be able to use Oracle Warehouse Builder and import external database definitions (heterogeneous services).
However, Oracle (SQL*Plus) is able to retrieve records when the table name is stated in the SQL query (es. select * from my_table).
The problem seems to be specifically with the PostgreSQL ODBC because Oracle is able to read schemes from other databases through ODBC. Ive done some tests with Access dbs just to be sure that the problem is not with my system (Windows XP SP2).
The problem appears both with ANSI and UNICODE PostgreSQL drivers.
Any suggestion of how workaround this problem?

Dear all,
Ive tried different tracing levels with out success. The log file does not seem to be created by Oracle.
Looking closer to the debug and comm logs from the driver 8.01.0200, Ive found out that the problem was generated after a table wasnt found (the driver seems to search for the all_tables table, and just afterwards to query the scheme pg_catalog). In this case the all the following queries returned with the error ERROR: current transaction is aborted, commands ignored until end of transaction block. Maybe this problem is related with the bug [#1000641] http://pgfoundry.org/tracker/index.php?func=detail&aid=1000641&group_id=1000125&atid=538
Following the Postgres odbc developers suggestion, Ive installed the psqlODBC v 08.02.0002 and Ive got a completely different result.
As before, the simple query select * from my_table@hsodbc returns the result using SQL*Plus clearly faster than before.
Doing the query select * from all_tables@hsodbc the result is OK (the name of 56 tables) but the process is very slow and burdensome. The file paging memory in the machine running Oracle and the SQL*Plus jumps from the normal 700 MB to 1.7 GB, and the query takes about 20 minutes to complete.
Also the 1.7 GB remains allocated and the query process halted in PostGreSQL even after the on screen result of the query. The memory is freed and the process terminated after the logging out SQL*Plus.
Probably as result of this memory explosion, the system runs out of memory and Oracle Warehouse Builder selecting data base link -> schema, after some minutes get an error similar to: cant read from memory address XXXXX
All those test where done with PostGreSQL 8.0.1 (on Linux Suse 9.0) and Oracle 10g (Windows XP SP2).
To be sure that the problem was not related to the PostGreSQL version, we updated the server to the 8.1.3 (running in Linux Suse 9.0 with psqlODBC v 08.02.0002 ) and OWB couldnt see any table as before and doing Select * from all_tables@hsodbc weve got the message:
ERROR:
ORA-00604: error occurred at recursive SQL level 1
ORA-28500: connection from ORACLE to a non-Oracle system returned this message:
[Generic Connectivity Using ODBC]
ORA-02063: preceding 2 lines from HSPG
no rows selected
On the other hand, with the same configuration as before (Oracle 10g under Windows XP SP1, psqlODBC v 08.02.0002) but with PostGreSQL 8.1.3 under Windows XP SP1, OWB can read table names (same tables imported from Linux PostgreSQL) but not all_tables (a minor problem, because what is important for us is to make OWB work with PostgreSQL).
The encoding for all DBs is UTF8.
Any ideas of where could be the problem?

Can't view a report connecting through ODBC(RDO) to DB with InfoView (CMC)

Crystal Reports machine :
OS :
Windows Server 2008 64-bit
Crystal Reports Developer 2008 SP0
Crystal Reports Server 2008
DB Server:
Windows Server 2003 32-bit
SQL Server 2000 SP3
What is going on:
All the reports connecting through ODBC (RDO) to the database server work fine in the developer interface (I can preview them) but cannot be accessed if I try to view them in InfoView / CMC ("Please wait while the document is being processed" message box doesn't go away...).
I have tried both the SQL Server driver 6.00.6001.1800 and SQL Server Native Client 10.0 2007.100.1600.22 with the same results.
PS All the reports using OLE DB work just fine, I would prefer to have the ODBC option working through the web interface because I have a few hundreds report to change otherwise ...

Our solution is a php web application, but this is not relevant (in my opinion), and here it is why:
The php code should show the reports by using the direct links given by InfoView
(like http://dev-web:8080/CrystalReports/viewrpt.cwr?id=801&apsuser=user&apspassword=password).
Actually in this moment these links are looking different because currently we're using C.R. 10 + C.R. Server 10, but we are planning to move to CR 2008 + CR Server 2008.
So now I am testing how these direct links do work, they're actually working perfectly till now, but only if I connect through OLEDB to the DB server (SQL Server 2000). Any attempt to do it through the 2 ODBC drivers failed until now.
And I don't want to think about changing the data source hundreds of reports (lot of them having subreports too) ...

You can create a trigger(when-list-changed) for each list item where you could:
1.recreate the record groups and then use POPULATE_LIST so you can hide the selected values. In forms builder online help there are some good examples about create record groups dynamically.
or
2.you can perform a validation instead of hiding the selected values. If the values is already selected the display a message 'Value already selected....'
Second option is much faster(only an 'if clause')
