Using Group Mail - Automator Performs Unwanted Step

Here is an interesting side effect...
I've got an automator action that I've saved as an application to e-mail to a small group of people. The actions perform perfectly except for one small problem. Whenever I run the app the system goes through its process and then after all the mail is sent my address book gets wiped clean.
Anyone ever have this happen? What did you do to resolve the problem?
I learned to backup my address book so it isn't a problem restoring it. But this seems completely unnecessary.
Any feedback that helps solve the problem would be great.
Thank you,
Joseph
Work Flow is as follows:
1 - New Mail Message (Message is Composed; with no addresses specified)
2 - Find People In Address Book (Setup to find people in a Group)
3 - Group Mailer (Add Greeting Checked)
4 - Send Outgoing Message
5 - Ask for Confirmation (Set to ask if I want to run the Work Flow again)
6 - Run Work Flow (Set to Run this Same Work Flow again from the beggining)

I've just run through the workflow and sure enough it ate the group that I'd selected. After playing around with it some it looks as though the problem as to do with the order of steps 4 and 5 -
Change it to the following and it should work fine:
4- Ask for Confirmation message (set to +Ignore Results from Previous Action+)
5- Send Outgoing Message (set to +Ignore Results from Previous Action+)
I didn't use step 6

  • How to use's mail's "perform mail action with message"

    I can't for the life of me figure out how to use "perform mail action with message", I basically want to create a script that get's used on a rule from Mail, but nothing I try will work.
    This is what I started with...
    tell application "Mail"
    perform mail action with message msgs for rule theRule
    end
    end
    This doesn't compile i've seen an example of it being used like this...
    using terms from application "Mail"
    perform mail action with message msgs for rule theRule
    end perform
    end using
    this also doesn't compile, so I'm not sure what it's wanting

    This is one of those annoying things about programming - you have to arrange and spell things exactly right (this gets worse if you have fat fingers). You can look at the dictionary for Mail to see the specifics - in your example you are missing an "s" at the end of the word "message":
    <pre title="this text can be pasted into the Script Editor" style="font-family: Monaco, 'Courier New', Courier, monospace; font-size: 10px; padding: 5px; width: 720px; color: #000000; background-color: #E0E0E0; overflow: auto">tell application "Mail"
    perform mail action with messages msgs for rule theRule
    end tell
    </pre>

  • Automator w/ Group Mailer Truncating Messages

    I am attempting to send out an email to every person in my Address Book who has an email. I created a smart group in Address Book and am using that to send my messages. I am going to be getting married and I would like to announce the dates when those are set. I am also having a child and would love to email everyone when it's time.
    I can get the people I need to get. The problem is the mail message gets shorter and shorter every time a new message is created eg:
    To:[email protected]
    Body: "Hey guess what.... Blah Blah Blah"
    To:[email protected]
    Body: " guess what.... Blah Blah Blah"
    To:[email protected]
    Body:" lah Blah"
    My workflow looks like this:
    1. New Message
    2. Find People whose group = has email
    3. Group Mailer
    4. Send Message

    Not sure why you would need to use Automator. Why not just send a single email out using the group as the addressee and hide the addresses?
    To send emails to a group and hide group member names and addresses when sending a message to a group created in Address Book do the following.
    1. Open Mail and choose Preferences from the Mail menu.
    2. Click Composing.
    3. Deselect the checkbox for "When sending to a group, show all member addresses" and close Mail Preferences.
    Then when you send an email to a group, only the group name will be seen.

  • Automator bug in Group Mailer action

    Hello, I think there's a bug with the Group Mailer action. The first time I ran the workflow it only worked partially. Not all the mails included the email message. When I ran the workflow again it only included the greeting and completely left out the email Message from the "New Mail message" action.
    I have the following workflow setup:
    New Mail Message
    Get Specified Address Book Items
    Group Mailer
    Send outgoing mail
    The workflow will include the email message if I deselect the "add greeting" from the "Group Mailer" action. But then I won't have the personal greeting. I might as we'll use "bc" in the email instead of using Automator.
    Please help.
    Thanks.

    The workflow works with some restrictions only to be found by trial and error (i bought SerialMailer to avoid further irritation).
    I translated the workflow commands from Dutch into English, excuse if me I do not use the correct wording.
    First [create new mail message] (You cannot use any formatting or import text, result panel will show mail)
    Next [Search address book groups] (Results panel should show the group)
    Then [send e-mail to group] (you can use the "dear" etc check box
    a bubble will connect the search group and send e-mail box
    Finally [send outgoing mail].
    You cannot select a concept mail in your Apple Mail, Automator needs to create one and Automator will put it in the outgoing mailbox (this box you cannot reach as user, it is hidden!).
    Good luck

  • Huge problem using apple mail while sending email to a group...

    Hey - I am quite confused... apple mail has huge problems using groups with about 150 addresses when writing and sending an email... the writing of emails is nearly impossible. Once the group name is inserted in the addressline (address book in iCloud!), apple mail uses nearly 100% CPU and further writing is nearly impossible. When sending such an email, all addresses are suddenly visible - though the box is NOT checked and the addresses should be hidden... what can I do? I use this feature (sending mails to groups) on a daily basis and cannot accept visible addresses...
    Greetings and sorry for inconvenient english...
    Christof

    How about next time you send to the group, cc yourself, or include yourself in the group. Then receive the email on the iphone, you can "reply all" in order to send to the group. If you use an imap account, you can make a new folder, call it something like "groups", and save different group emails there for the next time you need to "reply all".

  • Group emails using Apple Mail

    From time to time I like to inform about 40 people that I have updated my iWeb site. To do this, I have assembled a 'group' of addresses and I send the update information to them.
    It does not appear to be possible to do this using Apple Mail. I have tried breaking the group down into small bite sizes but poor old Mail just can't hack it. It is not up to the job using an internet connection in Australia or in Canada.
    Creating such a group using Gmail Mailplane) does not seem to be possible. Indeed that is a distinct deficiency with an otherwise splendid facility.
    I am always obliged to fall back on my dusty old copy of Entourage which does the job flawlessly. Unfortunately, Entourage does not send the sexy update message so handily supplied by iWeb.
    I have just gone through this again today. Mail did not hack it. It first tried to use the Gmail SMTP server and then the old Dotmac one and finally my ISP provider's outgoing mail server. None of thse worked. Error messages about time outs on Port 25 arrived.
    It would be nice to have the various Apple products working together seamlessly but, in my hands, this is not the case.
    I am using the latest version of all software.
    Any suggestions will be gratefully received and acknowledged.
    David Amies

    Thank you for your time.
    Once one has updated iWeb a three pronged invitation appears on the screen. One of these invites you to 'announce' your changes. If you click on that, Apple Mail fires up with a pre-printed message and a nice little logo. It is up to you to insert any addresses to which you might care to send the notification of your up date.
    Now, I have created a group of addressees in Address Book that I call Blog Group 1. I have arranged this group such that the addresses of members are concealed from other members. This you can do in Apple Mail preferences under 'composing.'
    I then press the send button. Wheels spin and the machine whirrs and I receive a message that it can't be sent and that I should use another server. It supplies a list of possibilities. I try them all with the same lack of success. I no longer have the exact error message to hand and could only get it by sending my stuff out again and thereby unnecessarily bothering my correspondents.
    After messing around with all of this, I use precisely the same group with Microsoft Entourage and hey presto! it works.
    If I can send group emails with Entourage but not with Apple Mail then I hardly think that this can be an issue with my ISP. (I tried to phone tech support today to clarify the point but they are down!)
    Why then not use Entourage and be done with it, I hear you cry? For reasons that I cannot explain, I try to avoid using Microsoft products unless there is no alternative. Apple purports to have nicely integrated software and so why not use that?
    Do you now follow my problem? If you have any further insights, I shall be more than happy to hear them.
    Once again, thank you for your time.
    Cordially,
    David Amies

  • Users cannot use group listing to email in Mail

    We have setup our directory with all of our users name and emails, and we have made a master group that contains all users in the company that we would like to use for mass mailings.
    However when we attempt to either type, or drag the directory listing into the TO: area in a new mail message, it will not input anything.
    Can you not use this method to send a message to a directory group?

    Hi,
    There are a couple of ways to set this up for a group. I'll explain the way that I use assuming Advanced setup:
    In SA -> Mail -> Settings -> Mailing Lists -> Enable server group mailing lists
    In WGM -> Groups -> your master group -> Enable services for this group on <host>
    Check Mailing list.
    Then in an email To field enter <groupname>@<host domain>
    <host domain> can be shortened to the domain only if entered
    In SA -> Mail -> Settings -> Advanced -> Hosting -> Local Host Aliases
    Hope this helps,
    Harry

  • Sending group mail using comcast

    I have been working for two days trying to send out a group mail notifying my friends that I have a new Comcast mail address. I have spoken with 3 Comcast techs who have verified that I have my accounts set up properly. I try sending a group mail and it says that it, "cannot send message using the server smtp.comcast.net. Does the same occur when manually adding more than one email address to the To: field - not using a Group?

  • How can I use Mac Mail to send a delayed mail?

    I am trying to send a delayed email, meaning the email is not sent immediately
    when the send button is pressed but at a pre-determined time.
    I have looked through Google, tried different third party scripts available, including
    Mail Scripts 2.10.3 by Andreas Amann, but none is supported under Mac OS X Lion.
    I believe Mac Mail itself does not support this feature (to my disappointment),
    but I read about using iCal and Automator to do my intended purpose.
    However, I am not familiar with script-writing. If someone can provide me a
    step-by-step procedure OR give me another way to do my intended purpose,
    it will be highly appreciated.

    I opened Airport Utility today and it appears to have been simplified to the point where you can't do much with it these days.
    Yes, welcome to the Fisher Price toy box utility.. where nothing in the way of advanced usage is offered.
    Is there a way to accomplish what I want to do that is reasonably simple?
    You can put time controls onto the offending addresses.
    But if the hackers know anything at all they know how to access the MAC address of the computer and change it.. so the effectiveness of this is limited.
    Change the current setup and password.. You must use WPA2 Personal and I recommend you use a pure alphanumeric password, mix case and numbers of 20 characters or more for your situation.. do not give that password to anyone.. protect the admin password of the TC itself equally well but with a different password. And protect the physical access to the TC from anyone in your home.. because the fact is all security on the TC is an illusion if the TC has open access.
    See how to find passwords here.
    i forgot my password for my router, how can I change them.
    So anyone can discover your passwords without your knowledge and leave no trace on your system.
    If you make no progress.. I suggest replacement of the TC as the main router of your network.. you need something with controls.. and even better controls that allow you to block people.
    The favourite one now is older Netgear WNDR3800 . .you might need to buy from ebay although a few new ones are still around.. alternatively the WNDRMACv2 is simply the same hardware in a white box.. instead of black.
    Load gargoyle firmware onto it.. sorry if I even point to where you can find this info my post will be deleted.. I can say it.. just cannot help further.. so use google.. there are lots of posts and let me assure you this get combo.
    You can continue to use TC at what it does best.. a dumb wireless AP and location for TM backups.

  • Unable to Connect to my organization's EAS using MS Mail app since upgrade to Windows 8.1 -- certificate error

    Last November, my ASUS laptop forced me to update to Windows 8.1.  Since then, I cannot connect to my organization's mobile EAS using the Mail/Calendar/People app.  The Mail app says "We could not connect to .... because of problems with its
    digital certificates.  Contact your system administrator for info."  I also tried to delete the account and recreate it.  At the account info screen, it gave a related error message, stating "To connect to this account, you need a
    valid certificate on the PC. Contact your system administrator for more info."
    In trying to recreate the account, I note that the 8.1 Mail app appears to have combined all EAS connections -- I seem to recall different options for connecting previously, including one that was more specific to mobile EAS connections.  My organization
    only supports connection to mobile devices, and I continue to be able to connect via Windows phone, Android (iOS devices also supported).
    I have done some digging and see that in my Windows Certificate Manager, there is a Personal Certificate with an error message. It's a "Token Signing Public Key" for "Client Authentication" using an RSA Public Key, but under the Certification
    Path tab, the status states "The issuer of the certificate could not be found."  I suspect this is the certificate that my organization's server is sending but is no longer being recognized by Windows 8.1.
    My organization has been unwilling to support me on this.  They point to the fact that all other devices work, my connection worked with Windows 8.0, and they don't have enough users that connect via Windows 8.1 laptops/tablets to troubleshoot on their
    end.  They also don't want to change setting that then cause other users to lose connectivity on the more commonly used mobile devices.
    So, to trouble shoot myself, I have looked up posts on related issues and I have done all of the following to no avail:
    - Make sure my Windows is up to date, including that latest Certificate/Credential update;
    - Uninstalled the Mail/Calender/People App, restarted, and reinstalled it;
    - Had MS Online support try to trouble shoot.  They created a test account and tried to connect using that to no avail.
    Notably, I have two Windows 8.1 machines -- my wife and I got matching ASUS laptops that both upgraded to 8.1 from 8.0  -- and I am unable to connect to my organization's mobile EAS using either machine.
    To me, this is clearly a Windows 8.1 issue.  The Mail/Calendar/People app should interface with mobile EAS exactly the same way that other mobile OSes do.  Apparently this was the case with Windows 8.0, but no longer.
    The last thing I'll add is that my organization requires password and remote wiping when connecting to the mobile EAS.  But, this wasn't an issue when I had Windows 8.0 -- it connected fine and mandated password and remote wipe features.
    NOTE: I originally posted this question on the Windows 8.1 Tehchnet forum and was told by an MS Engineer Soumya Sunda Debroy to repost in this forum.
    PLEASE ADVISE.  YOUR HELP IS APPRECIATED.

  • WLS5.1 SP8: using javax.mail

    Hi All,
    I've just managed to use the javax.mail package to send email from a session
    bean, but I'm not happy with the way I did it and I had to hack the
    solution, rather than follow the recommended way:
    In my weblogic.properties file, I have;
    weblogic.resource.MailSession.weblogic.resource.mail.EBCSession=\
    mail.from=[email protected], \
    mail.host=mail.fluid.com.au
    which seems to be correct according to
    http://www.weblogic.com/docs51/classdocs/API_ejb/EJB_environment.html#102218
    2
    When I start WLS, it indicated that it's bound the JNDI name without error
    However, in my session bean, I kept getting a runtime error as the session
    was trying to connect to a server on localhost, instead of
    "mail.fluid.com.au". In other words, it didn't seem to be using the
    mail.host setting in weblogic.properties.
    I managed to solve the problem by doing this:
    Properties props = new Properties();
    props.put("mail.transport.protocol", "smtp");
    props.put("mail.smtp.host", Utility.getProperty("ebc.mail.host"));
    // use mail address from HTML form for from address
    props.put("mail.from", "[email protected]");
    and sending the props object when creating the session AND THIS WORKED!
    I'd prefer to configure the mail session only in weblogic.properties, so is
    there another step I need to take to make WLS see/use the mail.host I have
    set in weblogic.properties?
    Thanks all for your time.

    The 'nice' way to do what you want is to have your realm implement
    the ManageableRealm interface and call those methods instead of
    changing the database directly from the Bean.
    Also make sure your realm has a way to refresh it's cache (if you
    use one) when Users/Groups/ACLs are added/changed in your underlying
    data store.

  • Group Mailer ~ There is no outgoing Mail message. (-2700)

    Hi
    I am attempting to use the group mailer function in automator.
    I have tried a variety of different work arounds with the same effect.
    The process I have created has four stages:
    1) Get Specified Address Book Items
    2) Group Mailer
    3) Get Specified Mail Items
    4) Send Outgoing Messages
    I have tinkered with the order of stages and with the 'ignore previous results' as suggested on other forums - all to no avail.
    The Action reaches Stage 2 (Group Mailer) and then stops with the error message There is no Outgoing Mail Message (-2700).
    Can anyone shed any light on this?
    Thank you, in advance

    There are a few other refinements that could be added:
    1) Avoiding the asking if attachments want to be added by checking whether there were any assigned in the Automator "Get Specified Finder Items" dialog;
    2) There is a rather annoying bounce/notification by Automator after the initial "New Mail Message" action. Gathering all the information first and then creating a template with the "New Mail Message" action would avoid this annoyance. Unfortunately, as you know, I am using that action as a quick way to gather the subject, message, and account information.
    3) Rename the actions by using a Ctrl click on the action title bar to more clearly indicate what information is being requested in the dialogs.
