Using Kinect for Voice recognition

Hi, I am trying to implement a labview program that allows me to use kinect's voice recognition features for my project. I tried out the Kinect tutorial on NI website but it says that the voice recognition functions are not implemented yet. I researched on the Microsoft Voice functions but I don't think It can be used. Is there a alternative way?
Basically I am just trying to detect for the word "help" through kinect's microphones. Any help would be much appreciated!

Hi,
I think you should have a look at this : http://lavag.org/topic/15955-labview-speak-basic/
There's a good chance it helps you do what you want.
Good luck & hope it helps!

  • Inquire about the best laptop specifications for Developing Windows Apps and 3D modelling Animation using "Kinect for Windows v2"?

I need some help in choosing laptop that is most compatible with "Kinect for Windows v2"; in order to develop Windows Apps, and 3D modelling Animation and Character Design. Which is better (Specifications):
    HP Pavilion Notebook PC 15-p150ne
    AMD A10-5745M +
    AMD Radeon R7 M260 (2 GB DDR3L dedicated) +
    4 GB 1333 MHz DDR3, OR
    HP Pavilion Notebook PC 15-p034ne
    Intel Core i5-4210U + NVIDIA GeForce 840M (2 GB DDR3 dedicated) + 4 GB 1600 MHz DDR3L

The second system with the Intel chipset will more than likely have the Intel USB3 chipset required for Kinect. As for GPU they are similar, but the i5 with DDR3 1600MHZ ram is a better option. Keep in mind, if you are doing anything in-depth for
3D, a laptop isn't the best options, but if you have to go mobile then you have to decide what is best for your requirements.

  • Using Mic for Voice Recording - and listening...

Alright.. I have a MacBook and a Snowball USB mic. The Snowball works a-ok, the only thing is is that I can't hear myself while I'm recording. I can only hear it on playback. This might seem normal to some but I was hoping to have this set up like I'm accustomed to in an actual studio where you can actually hear your own voice through the headphones or even the speakers. I'm also using Garage Band. Anyone have any ideas on how to enable this? Is it just a simple little setting that I'm not noticing?
    Thanks in advance.

If you're using Garageband then you should be able to hear yourself. Make sure the 'monitor' function is set correctly for the corresponding Garageband track by opening the right-hand panel and choosing it from the proper menu. Garageband also has a great 'Help' section in its top menu.

  • Kinect for windows sensor does not start when using remote WMI

    Scenario:
I have written a software (lets call it kinectRecorder.exe) that uses "kinect for windows sensor" to record images. The machine that connects to the kinect sensor has windows 8.1 and kinect v2 installed. The software is able to successfully records
images from kinect sensor when running locally. (meaning if I hit f5 from vs2013, frames are recorded to local disk)
Due to resource constraint and other requirement, I have to remotely kickoff kinectRecorder.exe on the windows 8.1 machine from a windows 7 machine. on the windows 7 machine, I remotely kick off the kinectRecorder.exe using windows WMI infrastructure.
The credential used for windows 8.1 machine and windows 7 machine are the same under same windows domain. the credential used to authenticate in wmi is also the same, I can see the user name running kinectRecorder.exe after kinectrecorder.exe is started
    remotely.
    Problem:
The result is that kinectRecorder.exe starts ok, but after the kinectsensor.open call, isavailable property changed to false, meaning sensor not detected.
    Question:
What's stopping kinect sensor to be detected/opened (i'm not sure what the correct jargon is here)?
I have been search the web, In msdn documentation (known issues),  I cannot find the problem being mentioned. I wonder if I'm the only person who has encountered this issue before.
    Any pointer is hugely appreciated.

Kinect is not supported within the context of a service because of the underlying need for a user session, see
    https://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/72cecf8b-ac64-47e2-b54b-ddbd1dc237c9/calling-kinect-sdk-apis-from-a-windows-service-is-not-possiblesupported?forum=kinectv2sdk
Can determine that the system has at least one logged in user and can you launch the application within that users session? KinectMontior/KinectService must be running for the runtime to get any data from the sensor. If you use Remote
Desktop to log into that user session, you can confirm this works by running any of the samples and they should work without issue(remember to ensure that your audio remoting is left on the server, see troubleshooting guide

  • Using Cisco 3526 IPVC for Voice Calls as well

Does anybody know the latest capabilities of the Cisco 3526 gateway when used as a Voice gateway? The Cisco SRND for "Cisco IP Video Telephony", which was published in July 2004, states that the IPVC gateways do NOT support H.245 Empty Capabilities Set or H.450. So they will give you supplementary services such as Hold, transfer, etc. Version 3.0 of the 3526 documentation lists "Empty capability set support" as a feature, although it does not state H.245 or H.450.
Basically, I want to use a 3526 as a second Voice gateway as well as a Video gateway in a Call Manager deployment. I am just concerned that I won't get all the supplementary services when using it for voice calls.
Any input would be greatly appreciated.

I know the product can support voice, my main concern was the support for ECS (Empty Capabilities Set) within H.245. If it does not support this my IP Phones will not be able to use the supplementary features such as Hol;d, Transfer, etc, etc.
I have escalated this to Cisc here in the UK for clarification. I am sure it will, but I just want clarification from Cisco or somebody that has used it in the same scenario.

  • Mic for voice comands

I have tried two different mics on my G5 but both can not be calibrated they are to soft. I cant get any level out of them. I tried the same mics on my G4 laptop same problem. But when i use them on my PC i get good levels. Do macs need special mics? I want to use it for voice comands and skype. Can anyone help? thanks.

If you have a machine that was built in the past three or four years, chances are you do NOT have a microphone input port.
Look at the port you are connecting to. Does it have a little picture of a microphone? Or does it have an icon more like a squished variation of ">O<"?
If the latter, then you are looking at a line-level input port. I can't remember the voltages off-hand, but while line-level audio is typically at 0db on an audio meter, microphones typically operate at about -30db. In other words, the signal coming from your microphone is about one-fifth the strength of what the input port on the computer is expecting.
I've been looking for an inexpensive mic preamp to fix this problem, but so far I haven't come up with anything.

  • Flashplayer for voice meetings: how to block Webcam

Hi, I recently discovered wengomeeting which uses flashplayer
    for voice & video conferences.
Flashplayer is great for this, but I run into a problem.
    1) The person I met had no webcam but a TV-Tuner in his PC,
same as me. His "TV Tuner" Software was off, and even so I received
    his TV signal via Flashplayer!!!!
In such a case, I just want the conference to be voice-only,
and have Flashplayer simply block webcam access, but allow mic.
Unfortunately, in flashplayer configuration options I could only
find the option to block or allow BOTH webcam AND mic, which is a
    problem.
Is there a way to selectively block the webcam but still let
the mic (voice) go thru? If not... can you take this as a (rather
important for me :) feature request?
    Thanks!
BTW, I use Linux Ubuntu 7.04, the other party uses WinXP, and
the audio quality is simply awesome. So much simpler than
    installing a softphone.
    Thanks!
    A

    Hi Bentley,
    Thanks for your answer.
Yes I do get a permission request from Flash Player, that
works fine, the problem is that it applies both to the webcam and
the mic, and I would like to be able to only enable Mic, not
    webcam.
I think this would be useful in many use cases.
In one particular case of a PC with a TV Tuner and no
webcam, FlashPlayer thinks the TVTuner is a webcam and actually
transmits the tuned TV channel as the video, which is funny (and a
bit annoying). This would be fixed by an "only permit Mic" option,
or, too, if Adobe adds something like a "Null" device in the Webcam
list that justs transmits black. The same null device concept would
be useful for the Mic device selection.
Just an idea for future flashplayer releases.
And yes, I did contact the wengomeeting devs, hopefully we
might get a fix or workaround in their next release.
    Thanks!

Second, go to this technote. On the left hand side you can
    learn about mic/cam settings:
    http://www.macromedia.com/support/documentation/en/flashplayer/help/settings_manager.html
Basically find a SWF and right-click it and choose Flash
    Player settings.
However, the real problem is that the security model assumes
that you'd want both off (as you know). It's fairly simple to
approve the communication and turn the mic's recording volume to
zero (effectively ending the audio). But there's no option to turn
off just the cam. You've have to physically unplug it as a Flash
    Player end user.
It -is- something the developer can control. So you might
want to check with wengomeeting about that too..

  • IPhone 5s with hearing aids via Bluetooth. Need to use the phone for voice, what's the best distance that the mic will pick up your voice

I wear hearing aids that are made for Apple, the audio will go into the hearing aids via Bluetooth. I'll need to use my phone for voice only.. I drive for work and have a wok oh one too and both are synced to a bluetooh headset (LG). I'm trying to figure out how to talk on both phones ( use speakerphone on work phone?) without using a bluretooh headset.  I don't know the range of the microphone on the IPHON, thinking about hanging it around my neck or put the phone into a stand/holder on the dash and use the speakerphone feature.  Looking for ideas to make this simple

You can't do anything with that problem.
Take your iPhone to the closest Apple Store and they will give you new one for 200€/$ or if you bought your iPhone in less than 12 months you will get it for free.

  • Using 3G phone for voice only

After purchasing my beloved iPhone 4, I would like to pass my old 3G phone to my wife, who uses voice only, no data. AT&T says the iPhone 3G will not work properly without a data plan and cannot be used for voice only service. Is AT&T correct? Is there another solution?

AT&T correct? Is there another solution?
Yes. AT&T requires a data plan for ALL iphones on their network. There is no other solution, if you want to use the phone on AT&T's network. If you try and use the phone without a data plan attached, they will catch you & bill accordingly for a data plan. They can tell what type of phone is being used from the IMEI number. The phone will work just fine without a data plan & data turned off, however.

Is there any where that I can voice why I returned my beloved new Ipad? I was told I could move my Keynote presentations to it and then use it for my
business presentations. Unfortunately that turned out to not be true. I need the IPad to work with a remote.
The Ipad is on a short cable to my projector. I am usually on a podium 30 feet away. No infra red receiver on the IPad and
the Iphone remote needs wi fi which is not always available in all the locations I do my teaching and lecturing in.
If you can build a remote into the Ipad in the future I would really like to use an Ipad to replace my heavier lap top for business travel. Thank You Kathy McNeil.

  • Is kinect for xbox one can use kinnect sdk below 1.8?

hello, i'm trying to develop some software with kinect.
and I've heard that kinect for xbox one 's hardware is pretty better than old one.
but tech page says nothing about older sdk below 1.8.
I know that sdk 2.0 is better than old ones.
but I have some problem with windows 8 and 8.1 (I'm using windows 7 now)
anyway, my point of Q is this
: is kinect for xbox one is supported by kinect sdk 1.8 or below?

    No.
Kinect for Windows v2/Kinect for XBox One only support the Kinect SDK v2+

  • A blackberry used for voice only

Does blackberry make a phone which allows for voice only rather than email right away?  I like the style, design and keyboard layout but can only afford the voice capabilities.
    Any particular model(s) you recommend?
    Thanks!

HI and Welcome to the Forums!
BB's were designed as communication devices -- blending voice and data communcations into one device. I don't think there is one that eliminates anything that would be useful for email. But, you can check all products here:
