Using logic to decide whether or not to bring in (a sample) data.

i have a report that works like this.
Its broken into 2 different queries that are joined by data links. The First query grabs the most recent data (using max date) based on the group by function at the bottom of the query.
select max(ops$penlims.get_colldate(b.sample_Id)) fdate,
b.user_sampleid fuid, a.method fmethod, ops$Penlims.get_collpt_consult(b.sample_id) as ftype
from nais_tasks a, nais_samples b
where a.sample_id = b.sample_id
and ops$penlims.get_colldate(b.sample_id) between :inStartDate AND :inEndDate
and b.user_sampleid like :well
and ops$penlims.get_collpt_consult(b.sample_id) like :pType
and ops$penlims.get_collpt_consult(b.sample_id) not like '%EFF%'
and a.condition in ('APPROVED')
and not a.method in ('BALANCE PROGRAM','528 (VERSION 1)')
and a.method not like '300%ANALY%ER%'
group by b.user_sampleid, ops$penlims.get_colldate(b.sample_Id), a.method, ops$Penlims.get_collpt_consult(b.sample_id)
order by user_sampleid, ops$penlims.get_colldate(b.sample_Id), a.method, ops$penlims.get_collpt_consult(b.sample_id)
The second query is joined by a data link to the first query and is primarily just the part of the report that brings in the data to populate the report.
Here is the second query:
select distinct a.sample_id SSID, a.user_sampleid SUID, c.number_value, b.operation,
ops$penlims.get_colldate(a.sample_id) SDATE, ops$penlims.get_collpt_consult(a.sample_id) STYPE, b.method SMETHOD,
b.task_id STID, c.units sunits, b.condition TCond, c.condition RCond,
ops$penlims.get_colltime(a.sample_id) STIME,
c.component,
ops$penlims.get_conc(result_id) gconc,
ops$penlims.get_collpt_consult(a.sample_id) gcollpt
from nais_results c, nais_tasks b, nais_samples a
where a.sample_id = b.sample_id
and b.task_id = c.task_id
AND ops$penlims.get_colldate(a.sample_id) between :inStartDate AND :inEndDate
and user_sampleid like :well
and ops$penlims.get_collpt_consult(a.sample_id) LIKE :pType
and c.condition in ('APPROVED')
and b.condition in ('APPROVED')
and ops$penlims.get_collpt(a.sample_id) LIKE '%PROD%'
and lower (component) not like '%std%'
My problem is this. My boss is happy with the report in that it brings in the most recent (ops$penlim.get_collpt_consult) sample_type for each (user_sampleid) well and groups/orders them correctly. Today he asked that if he passed in a parameter such as %RAW% into :ptype and the report returns RAW/HOP and STATION RAW for different dates; both the max date for the repective sample_type, is there a way to take the RAW/HOP sample over the STATION RAW if they both exist for that particular well (user_sampleid) or leave the STATION RAW sample in the report if no RAW/HOP sample exists. I can clarify any questions and could probably write a cursor to do this. Is there a faster way than writing a cursor? maybe a slight logic or program unit mod i can do?
Thanks for even reading this far and thanks for ANY input!!

I just was reading a thread about dpi on the DW forum and
also speaking from experience they had a long thread and several
posts conducted tests proving that dpi does not really make a big
difference whether it's 72 or 300 dpi.
dpi dots per inch come into play, with print generally. Some
argued that 72 verses 300 used up more bandwidth but I did not see
any significant difference when I tested the same graphic pixel
size with one at 72 dpi and the other 300 dpi the amount of pixels
in an image ppi is what matters for monitor display.
For me most situations dynamic or embedded, I determine which
way to go by how many pictures I need to show.
Another solution I have used is to create your slide show
using Flash video which will buffer and be able to use many photos.
Hope any of this helps.

Completely inappropriate, and they all also not help with volume adjustments. Fades will only apply to Audio Regions in the Tracks area: they will not fade out the complete mix unless you first Bounce it, add that to the Tracks area, apply the Fades with the Fade tool, then Bounce in Place (Again).
Much much better to make use of Track automation to take care of Volume adjustments, and to Fade out the end of the song by applying Track Automation to the Output Channel

  • Firefox 4.1 does NOT ask me if I want to update when I have that item checked, and will NOT tell me what the update version is so I can decide whether or not I want it.

Firefox 4.0.1 on Windows 7 Ultimate
    With update settings as follows:
"Ask me what I want to do" is checked
Firefox, Add-ons, Search Engines checkboxes are all unchecked
If I choose "Check for Updates" from the Help menu, I am not told what the update is and am not given a choice about downloading it. It automatically downloads the update and then gives me an "Apply" button. As far as I can tell, there is no way to find out the version number for the update before downloading or installing it. A button that is labeled "Check for Updates" should do only that--CHECK, not download.
I want to know what the version information is for the update BEFORE anything is downloaded, so I can choose whether or not I want it. That's the way Firefox 3.x worked.
How can I restore the 3.x behavior regarding updates?

You can rename such files with a .html file extension and give them a .jpg file extension to make applications see them as an image.<br />
If Windows is stubborn and keeps the .html file extension and you end up with image.jpg.html then add quotes around the name ("image.jpg")

I want to use QuickBooks for my very small bussiness, the recommendation from my accountant was QuickBooks (Windows). I just do not understand enough to decide whether to buy QuickBooks for Apple or Windows and use it in the Parallels world?

QuickBooks for Mac has been available again since at least 2004 (Intuit before that had done nothing with it for years). The current version is QB for Mac 2014. It's pretty much the same price no matter where you look.
The Mac version data is not directly compatible with the Windows version. Sending your data out to your business tax accountant and getting it back in is not at all easy. It's such a pain, our accountant comes here to finalize the books at year end.
There is still also a lot of Windows features for QB Pro which have never been added to the Mac version. They're all on the higher end side that larger businesses would need. I've never run into anything with the Mac version I couldn't do.
If your accountant wants ease of data transfer, then you'd be better off purchasing Snow Leopard Server and run that in Parallels. Then run the Windows version of QB in that.

  • Keep getting message pop up "Error reading/writing file  "com.apple.logic.pro.cs": Logical end-of-file reached during read operation," and "The Preferences are not loaded completely. Save them to "com.apple.logic.pro.cs" anyway?" Using Logic pro 8. ???

Logic froze while I was working on something so I forced quit.  Now every time I open LOGIC a message pops up that says:
    "Error reading/writing file
    “com.apple.logic.pro.cs”:
Logical end-of-file reached during read operation."
The only button option is cancel so I press it and another message appears that says:
"The Preferences are not loaded completely.
Do not save them, as you would overwrite the Preferences file with incomplete data."
Then when i close logic a box appears saying:
"The Preferences are not loaded completely.
    Save them to "com.apple.logic.pro.cs" anyway?"
There are 3 button options to press; ok, cancel or dont save.
I press "don’t save" cuz I don't want to ruin anything.
I found a discussion located here: https://discussions.apple.com/message/9564253#9564253 that says if I delete the file "com.apple.logic.pro.cs" it will resolve the problem.  If I do this will I loose or mess anything up at all, automation, saved channel strips customizations, saved effects, synth, or ultrabeat customizations etc? Or especially will I loose any work I've done?  I have hundreds pieces of music files I've created.  I'm scared to mess anything up with all the hours and months of work I've done.  Is there anyway to fix this without loosing anything?  I'm using Logic Pro 8.
    Thank you

You can safely delete this file - its the preference file for control surface settings - you haven't said whether you're actually using a control surface or not, if so, you will have to set it up again. A new file will be created when you fire Logic up again, but of course it will contain default settings. If you have a complicated control surface setup, remember to keep a backup copy somewhere in case any future problems arise.
Other than that, you really have nothing to be scared about - hopefully your problem is as simple as that and there isn't an underlying problem (a corrupt hard drive, for example). You seem concerned about losing work, so I guess you want to think about backing that up on a regular basis too. If you're saving your projects to your system drive, do get an external one for this. And also check that you have plent of free space on your system drive - you need to keep about a quarter or third of it free for your OS and programs to run properly (some temporarily stored files can be quite large).

Who do you think I am? Santa Claus?
What you need is not a mixer, but an audio interface with at least 4 mic inputs. There is a lot of choice there, but you should indicate a budget. You can go from, say, € 300 to € thousands, if you want.
    Roland UA 1010
    Focusrite Scarlett 18i8
However, there are other options (like multi-out mixer plus multi in interface, or standalone mic preamps plus interface with 4 inputs, etc). I have little experience using these however so I really cannot say much about which one(s) to get. The two mentioned above both have four mic preamps, but they are by no means the only way to do it.
The cheapest solution I can think of is to get a second 1204USB, plug it in, and in OS X create an Aggregate device (=the two are being merged into 'one virtual' interface with two discrete stereo (= four discrete mono) inputs. Disadvantage: you keep the same (limited) soundquality of the 16 bits convertors. Getting any of the interfaces mentioned earlier will also mean you'll make the significant step up from 16 to 24 bits sound.

Go here: http://www.iclarified.com/entry/index.php?enid=750 and download iOS 4.2.1 for the iPhone 3G. Perform a restore, but hold down ALT when clicking restore. Restore from this file you just downloaded. You should not get 1015 as you are upgrading, but if you get a different error, report back.

I'm using Logic 9 with a Macbook Pro. On one project I'm getting a message 'not enough processor power' and the computer stops playing
I've tried freezing all tracks but this has no effect. I've also bounced all soft synth tracks to audio, but to no avail. The computer stops playing
even at the start of the track where there is nothing but a kick drum happening.......

    Thank you for the suggestions.
I had previously tried all of the above but the airport/wireless thought. Unfortuneately, none of these things made a difference, including the wireless suggestion.
Currently, I am using my Mac's "cheapo" internal audio hardware  (haha). I have a one year old 27-inch iMac,  a good pair of bose speakers, and a polk sub. I don't believe it is an issue with my setup, considering I completely disconnected and unplugged it.
I did, however, do a little info hunting on the internal audio situation, since I was curious what is actually included, and I stumbled upon this interesting little tidbit about my model of iMac:
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/2718054?start=0&tstart=0
I had previously wondered if I was hearing my mouse in my speakers as well (not just in logic). It appears that this model of iMac may have some grounding issues, as someone later in the thread suggested purchasing and using a ground loop isolator, which seemed to fix any extra interference for them.
Ironically though, I have since opened logic, and do not seem to be encountering my previous static issue(yet).
Fingers crossed, hoping that I will not be experiencing it again. Going to purchase a ground loop isolator, and continue to mess around with logic, just to make sure it was not just an internal audio issue with my iMac.

I am trying to get an answer to whether or not I can successfuly use Time Machine with an external HDD connected to an airport extreme.  Some forums say yes, some say no.  I'm also curious about formatting the hard drive to work both on my wife's MacBook Pro and my PC.  Any help would definitely be appreciated.

You may be going on a recollection, that I share, that at one time Apple stated this would be possible:
In fact, Apple’s Time Machine Web page touted this very capability as recently as last Tuesday, as you can see from Google’s October 16 cache of the page
Effortless meets wireless. With a hard disk connected to your AirPort Extreme Base Station, all the Macs in your house can use Time Machine to back up wirelessly. Simply select your AirPort Disk as the backup disk for each computer and the whole family can enjoy the benefits of Time Machine.
But if you look at the current Time Machine page on Apple’s Web site, that text is nowhere to be found.
That was a long time ago, it has never been officially implemented, and at present they specifically say it cannot be done.
In summary, it may work, but probably won't, and even if it does it may not be reliable.

doesn't tell you directly, but it is mentioned in the FAQ that Java is required. If the content is appropriate, you can always ask here.
Thanks.  According to that webpage, my "Java is out of date."  When an error message like that is returned, I guess it's clear that "it's a Java problem."  Presumably, one would then just go to java.com and download the applet if he/she wanted to view the webpage.
I was wondering more about situation when unexplained problems that involved missing Java applets weren't noted in error messages.
But maybe I'm worrying about something that doesn't really need to be worried about.

  • What is the threshold to decide whether partitioning is needed or not?

I have an oracle 10g enterprise edition but partitioning option is not purchased yet. I foresee the total amount of data by the end of year 2012 would be about 200 to 300 GB and by end of year 2013 will be 400 GB, year 2014 will be 500 GB. There may be four or five tables with about 2 million records (and these will be the biggest tables).
I have read that partitioning is definitely needed when the size of the database exceeds 500 GB. Are there any other criteria/threshold which suggests at what point in time the partitioning option needs to be recommended?

    Hi,
whether or not you need partitioning depends not only on your data size, but mostly on your data structure. If you can think of "units" or "chunks" that your data can be broken in, and your business needs are such that they could be satisfied by one or a few "chunks", then partitioning may be the solution for you. For example, if your main application table stores data chronologically, and you often need to wipe off data for one month, or move it to cheaper storage, or take it offline for some kind of maintenance. Or if your data is distributed more or less uniformly across 20 different locations, and your users are often interested in seeing aggregate reports for just one location, etc.
If your data doesn't have a natural partitioning key, and cannot be broken into convenient "chunks" by this key, then not only partitioning may not improve your performance, it can make it worse.
There is a common misconception about partitioning: people tend to think of partitions as a way to complement indexing to get better selectivity. E.g. you have a table with columns a (indexed) and b (not indexed), and you have a report using WHERE a=:a and b>:b and think "ok, let me range-partition my table on b, then my report will run even faster with the combined power of indexing and partition pruning". In reality, your report will be running slower, maybe even much slower, depending on how many partitions will be covered by b>:b, because instead of doing an index unique scan once, you'll be doing it once per every index partition in your partition range. Of course, global indexes don't have this problem, but they sort of cancel the advantages of partitioning (what good is being able to operate on a small chunk of data if you have to follow up by rebuilding a huge global index?).
Another common misconception is urge to partition just because a table is becoming "too big". I've seen people doing partitioning on some obscure syntetic keys only used in table joins explaining that "well I know this is not a good partitioning key but I had to partition this table, it was becoming oh so big". In best case scenario, performance won't improve, but very likely it will get worse.
    Best regards,
    Nikolay
