Using MDT 2013 on Windows 8.1 system

I downloaded the MDT 2013 and installed it. During Install I changed the installation drive to a secondary drive. When attempting to run the Deployment Workbench I would get an error telling me that I needed to have Powershell installed. Removed Powershell
and reinstalled it. Reinstalled MDT with no luck.
Finally I installed MDT 2013 with the default settings and then it worked. Little frustrating that you have the option to install to a different drive but then it wont work. Didn't really want to put it on my SSD.
Perhaps this can be fixed with future release.

I have been able to install MDT on a 2nd partition, no problems.
Perhaps you are observing a different problem (powershell?!?!).

Migrate from Windows XP x86 to Windows 7 x64 using MDT 2013

Hello everybody,
We are migrating our Windows XP(x86) workstations to Windows 7 (x64). We are aware of the necessary gymastics tu perform on USMT in a way to run the scanstate with an older version of USMT in Windows XP, and then run the LoadState in Windows 7 environnement
with the newest one.
The problem is that I cannot run MDT TaskSequences (referring to a X64 windows 7 Image) in Windows XP (full OS environnement). Can anyone please tell me if there is a way to get arround this ? is there any method to execute this migration ?

Deploy Embedded features of WE81IP using MDT 2013

I would like to deploy Windows Embedded 8.1 Industry Pro and configure the embedded features using MDT 2013 as described in this Windows Embedded
blog post. I've imported the WE81IP image and created a task sequence but the Install Embedded Features tasks are not available. What do I need to do to make those tasks show up as shown in this image?

I would recommended using Windows System Image Manager (SIM) instead. When you import the WIM file into SIM, you get access to the Embedded Features.

MDT 2013, Deploying Windows 8.1 on Surface and Dell Venue Tablets

I'm having numerous issues with Capturing Images and Deploying to Windows 8.1 Tablets. We are currently using Surface Pro 1, 2, and Dell Venue 11 Pro tablets. I am using a Windows Server 2012 computer with MDT 2013 installed. I can't get the tablets
to:
1-sysprep and capture using MDT 2013
2-Deploy a Task Sequence with a WIM and other applications attached. (I've tried using the simple standard task seq option with no luck)
3-I found another way to get a WIM (using imagex) but when i deploy task sequence it ignores my selection of applications to install outside the WIM and only installs the WIM (WIM 14gb = Win 8.1 Ent, Office 2013 x32, MS Updates)
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Everything is being performed within the LAN and with USB 2.0 thumbdrives for media.

Are you trying to find out how to deploy Surface Pro method? Before capture the Surface pro image please download the latest drivers for the surface and made sure that they

You can set the wallpaper in the unattend.xml file.
Open the unattend.xml file by opening it in Windows SIM from the OS Info tab of your deployment task sequence.
Add the Themes component found under Microsoft-Windows-Shell-Setup to the "7 oobeSystem" pass.
Configure the "DesktopBackground" property in the Themes component with the desired path, for example %WINDIR%\Web\Wallpaper\MyWallpaper.jpg.

How to execute a .reg file in a task sequence using MDT 2013

Im trying to add a couple of desktop icons to my custom images during deployment using MDT 2013. I have a .reg file with all commands inside it but I am struggling to get these to work. the .reg file is located on my deployment server and is in a shared
folder which everyone has full read\write access to, I was wondering if someone could help?

Please help! I have created a media flash drive (drive capacity: 64Gb) to deploy LiteTouch x86 and x64 images (Win7 and Win8, 8.1) to PCs but getting error for the 3rd time. I am using the following tools in my environment: i am using MDT 2013 on a Windows
2k8 WDS server. PXE boot works fine deploying images but i keep getting this error after creating the Media flash drive). I first got the same failure with 14 errors but recreated the media on the WorkBench using a different selection profile but now i am

I am planning to build a WDS with Win2k12 and MDT2013 and perhaps will be lucky to create a successful media. I created one with my WDS Win2k8 it works on a HP laptop but failed on other machines like Dell...
Did you get driver injection in configuration WDS and MDT?
Considering if the incompatible drivers cause your issue.
If you can post back the MDT log during the deployment on DELL computers, it would be helpful for us to determine your issue.

MDT 2013 and Windows Embedded Standard 7

Hi Guys
I'm currently working on a Windows Embedded 7 Standard build and deployment.
Looking at the support Matrix and the video from Johan, it looks like:
MDT 2010 has support with the hacked LTIAPPLY script
MDT 2012 onwards support Embedded POS Ready - no mention of Standard.
Can you clarify:
If WES7 is supported in MDT 2013.
Is there a set of specific task sequence steps I should use for deploying WES7? I will still need to run the standard pre-install to clean disk, gather vars etc.
I have written some post build scripts, which configures the FBWF state and installs final apps, which i'll run at the State Restore phase.

Deploy Office 365 Pro Plus using MDT 2013

I'm currently evaluating O365 E3 and am specifically looking into what my options are for deploying Office 2013 Pro Plus when rolling out a new PC image. Currently I use MDT 2013 to deploy the image to new PCs and install Office 2010 along with other
applications. Can I use C2R with a config file pointing to a local repository of the installation files with MDT 2013?

Synaptics Pointting device Driver installs on an Desktop machine while deploying Windows 7X64 using MDT 2013 Update 1

I am deploying Windows 7X64 on Dell OptiPlex 990 and other desktops. Deployment goes fine but the Synaptics pointing device driver gets installed after the deployment is complete. Also after applying operating system I get a prompt to Run the Synaptics Pointing
Driver setup twice. If I don't click yes to install the TS wont proceed. Its gets worse when I uninstall the Synaptics Device Driver from Appwiz.Cpl and reboot the machine the Keyboard fails with the error Code:29. Above is the screenshot of what I get after

I have also encountered this in MDT 2013 Lite Touch deployments for Windows 8.1 and I am researching it.
I noted that the Synaptics driver was installed for "SmBus" in Device Manager for a motherboard with an Intel 7 Cxxx Series chipset (Dell Optiplex desktop). The HardwareID's are all PCI\VEN8086...
We use %Model% in our task sequence and have a folder for each model such as "Optiplex 7010" in Out-of-Box Drivers.

Create Image using MDT 2013

I am quite new for MDT 2013. I have recently installed MDT 2013 in my Windows Server 2012.
Now , I do have about 10 physical machine with different hardware specification inside. I have installed Windows 8.1 with all required software in it and now I want to distribute the same image in all 10 another physical machine.

Do I need to create the image using image x software and then use it as a standard image to be deploy it in rest of the systems..

I was getting exact same error.
here is what I did to fix it.
You need to do all this in a virtual envinronment.
1- import Windows 8.1 x64 from the DVD and add it to your listed os in MDT
2- create standard task sequence and select the OS you imported in step one. you need to add suspend to your TS ( look it up on how to )
3- For some reason WinPe x64 bit kept giving error during deployment so I used WinPe x86.
4- import Winpe x86 boot.wim into your WDS if you use Pxe boot or create a boot disk from the ISO and boot your VM from it.
5- deploy windows 8.1 x64 to your VM ,make sure to select " capture image ".
make all the necessary changes when windows is installed and MDT suspends the deployment, take snapshot of your VM , and then cintinue the deployment to finish the capture.
6- import the new captured image into MDT
7- creates new standard TS or modify your existing one to deploy the newly captured image.
8- update your deployment share and start the deployment of your new image.

MDT 2013 not working with older systems

We have been using MDT 2012 with no issues on any of our Dell systems. I just upgraded our Test Bed to MDT 2013 along with ADK for Windows 8.1. After upgrading and getting the new WIM files created, it does not work on two of our model systems. It gives
the message listed below when trying to boot into the WIM. These two systems are Dell Precision Workstations 370 and 380, both 64-bit Pentium 4 machines. It works great on all of our other system models. I checked the Execute Disable and it is enabled, but
neither model has virtualization. Does not having virtualization and UEFI play a factor? Thanks.

1) Upgrade your machines with modern processors that support the ADK.
or
2) Downgrade to the WAIK

Problem with ztisetbackground.wsf in MDT 2013 and Windows 8.1

Has anyone found a way to get ztisetbackground.wsf to work with a Windows 8.1 build after the WinPE phase? It works fine with Windows 7 builds.

Unfortunately not. Doesn't look like it will be fixed in the upcoming release of MDT 2013 Update 1 based on the following post...
