Using Multiple Linksys EA6500 routers

I would like to use multiple routers on my network.  I need to have one downstairs, that is connected to my DSL Modem, then another one on a different floor.  The first and second router will be connected via wired and wireless on both floors.  Would this router be able to accomplish this?  Also if one fails, I could used the secondary one as the main router.

The only way to use multiple routers in the network would be to cascade them. Meaning there should be a physical connection from one router to another. If your modem is just a plain modem then you will have to set one primary router then connect the secondary router with an ethernet cable. You have the option to either set the secondary router on bridge mode or use a LAN-to-LAN connection if you would like all your devices to remain in one network or you may cascade them by using a LAN-to-WAN connection. This will mean that the secondary router will have a different network. If your modem is a modem/router then you may connect both routers to the modem and configure them that way so that if one fails the other will still work. There is no way to make the second router connect wirelessly to the first router. It will always require a wired connection.
You may check this link on how to cascade routers:

  • Which Ethernet wiring standard, 568A or 568B should I use with Linksys wireless routers?

I am in the process of installing some RJ45 Keystone jacks for hard wiring wireless extenders, RE1000. Which Ethernet wiring standard should I use 568A or  568B?

Typically 568A is Canada and 568B is USA.
It doesn't matter which one you use because they are the same wiring scheme. The only difference is green and orange pairs are swapped.
What is critical is that both sides of the cable be wired the same. You can't have 568A on one side and 568B on the other.

  • Can I use multiple routers

I currently have the original router provided by FIOS & a wireless bridge to provide connectivity to a PC and my TV. I just purchased the upgraded wireless router. Can I operate the new router and my existing router at the same time? I have coax connections in both places. I was hoping to place the new router where the wireless bridge is located and use one (or both) routers to supply wireless to the house.
Do I have to do anything special to configure the new router to work in this set up?

There are several ways to do it.
I have mine set up with the extra rotuer set up in bridge mode to provide extended wireless coverage.
If that is what you want to do, then look up how to configure your particular router in bridge mode.

  • Using a Linksys WRT300N as head end for 1130AG

We currently have a seperate DSL line connected to a Linksys wireless router/switch for public use. We were given an 1130AG access point and would like to find a way to use a switch port off of the Linksys to connect to the FA port on the 1130AG and have the AP pass DHCP requests and all other traffic to the Linksys. This works if instaed of the 1130AG I use another Linksys router. I am able to assign the second router a static IP off of the first router and that second router uses a different IP range for it's DHCP clients. Because the 1130AG is restricted to handing out 10 DHCP client IPs I can't do the same thing and supply enough IP's to the public in my Jury room. I have been unable to get the AP to use the Linksys DHCP assignments. I orignially tried assigning a mgmt vlan and gues vlan on the AP where the mgmt vlan and ssid are the same as the ssid on the Linksys. Neither was succesful though I was able to connect to the AP when I forced my laptop to connect to that MAC. I then tried only have the mgmt vlan and opening that up for public use, that met with the same results. Then I tried setting up the AP to have no vlan but use the same ssid as the Linksys, still no luck. If I set the AP to receive it's address by DHCP it receives that address from the Linksys but other client traffic doesn't appear to work. So the two units are speaking to each other.
Has anyone tried to do this before? I know I should have a controller for the AP but I don't currently have the budget for that unit and the AP was given to us.
    Thank you in advance.

You can get it to work, but the 1130 management has to be configured for vlan 1 and the ssid has to be mapped to that vlan also. The Linksys router along with other soho routers don't have support for routing and having more than one subnet.

  • I need to replace my glitchy Linksys EA6500, how does the time capsule compare.

I am about to return the Linksys EA6500 for the second time in 3 weeks for constant failures, overheating etc.  I have been a Linksys customer for years but lately their product quality has taken a dive.  I bought the EA4500 less than a year ago and I could never get straightened out why my download speed was litterally cut in half.  The EA6500 would work out of the box but developed same problems or lost internet completely and after multiple calls for 1+ hours with customer suppor I just give up.
So we have all mac devices now....iMac, 2 iPads, 3 iPhones and 2 itouches.  I also run wifi to my TV for Netflix and Hulu and hard wired connection to my Directv.  I also stream content (movies) from the iMac to my wifi TV.
So we basically stream alot, sometimes to mulitple devices all at the same time.  I have been trying to find specifics, but I cant locate it.    How fast is the transfer speed over wifi and can it handle the load?   I dont want to buy this and find out it is just not up to our needs.
    Thank you

How fast is the transfer speed over wifi and can it handle the load?
Assuming that you have new Macs and the Macs are located close to the router with clear line-of-sight, you might be able to achieve up to 450 Mbps speeds.
Any less than that type of setup is going to result in slower speeds, as the signal strength decreases rapidly once the signal has left the router. Any obstructions in the wireless signal path will really slow things down very quickly as well.
If you are asking about Internet connection speed, your network will be limited to the speed that your ISP provides to you. The bandwidth will be split up among any connected devices.
We could ask dozens of questions about your devices and home construction, but the bottom line will always remain that you will not know how well...or if...an AirPort router might do the job for you until you try it out in your home.
For that reason, if you decide to try an Apple router, it would be a good idea to understand the store's return policy in advance, before you buy.

  • Connecting two EA6500 routers via wireless bridge

Hi, I want to know how can we bridge two EA6500 routers via wireless. I do not want to use the lan cable. Please help.
    Thanks,
    anandp

This setup is not possible. You can only cascade the routers via wired connection. The access points on these routers are mainly transmitters, they're not receivers so you can't associate them wirelessly. You can, however, get a wireless bridge to do the job. Check out the Dual Band N Entertainment Bridge WET610N and Wireless N Universal Media Connector WES610N.

  • How to transfer settings from WRT310N (in use) to AC1750 (EA6500) (new)?

Is there an easy, automated process to transfer existing router configuration/settings from a (currently in use) WRT310N to a new AC1750 (EA6500) (brand new, not currently in use)?
I am hoping not to have to do it manually ...
    Thanks!

I agree with FurryNutz. You need to manually configure the settings to the new router. The Linksys EA6500 has the Linksys Smart Wifi firmware and has a different user interface.

  • Linksys EA6500 Device List Connection Status - update process

I have the Linksys EA6500 with the latest firmware and have a question regarding the device list connection status.
Currently, I am seeing devices in the list that have a connection status of live, but they are not even within my home network.
What is the update/cycle time for the device list actually checking connection status of a device?
In my situation, it has been 3 days (72 hours) since the two device showing as connected have not been connected to my home network/router.
Noticed that this inaccurate connection status for these devices is also contributing to the Device Monitr app not showing correct device connection status info.
Would like to have real-time device connection status if possible. This device list is great way to know when device get connected or disconnected which helps me know when my kids get home from school or using game console when should be doing homework.
    Thanks for your help.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

When you go to Troubleshooting > Diagnostics > Router configuration and clicked on Backup it is actually letting you save a backup of your configuration. It should prompt you where to save the file for you to use it later to reconfigure the router settings by loading it back on the router itself. I suggest that you do a hard reset on the router itself – push and hold the reset button using a pin or paper clip for 10-15 seconds then wait for the cisco light to go solid. Once the cisco light will turn solid access the router page again by typing in 192.168.1.1 in the address bar and load the backup that you have saved. Just go back to Troubleshooting > Diagnostics > Router configuration and click on Restore option. It will ask you to look for the backup config file that you have save and open it and the settings should be restored on the router. Check then if the same problem (device list) will be experienced.

  • Which Linksys VPN Routers support Multicast forwarding

Which Linksys VPN Routers support Multicast forwarding / passthru   I have remote SPA942 phones connected thru a vpn to a SPA9000/SPA400 system. After manual provisioning the phones work, but voice mail, auto provisioning, etc that use multicast do not work. VPN is using Netgear boxes which do not forward multicast. I'm going to switch to Linksys/Cisco VPN routers but want to make sure which models will do the multicast forwarding.

I only no of 1 for sure and that is by downloading 3rd party firmware like DD-WRT, the WRT54G. See the below Link.

  • Problems with my LinkSys wireless routers since getting AT&T u-verse

I recently installed AT&T u-verse. Every since it's hit or miss on whether I can connect to my two linksys wireless routers. Sometimes it connects fine but other times I can try for hours and never obtain an IP address. I never have a problem connecting to the 2wire wireless router which was installed when u-verse was installed but it doesn't have coverage for my whole house.
The AT@T tech says the 2Wire has problems with routers being configured behind their router??? He said that I need to set my Linksys wireless routers up as access points???
Anyone have any suggestions on what to try? Anyone else have issues like this after u-verse was installed?
    Thanks

I've had AT&T U-verse since March, and I wish it wasn't the best option in my area. I have been through 3 of those 2-Wire Gateways and as best I can track down it's that DHCP Server. I have a BEFSR41v3 (and yes, I am NOT using the WAN port, just the switch at IP 192.168.1.10) and a WAP54G (IP 192.168.1.11) using WPA2-PSK and have been using for years now. AT&T tried telling me it was my wireless devices, which strangely enough worked PERFECTLY fine on my Linksys hardware with the same SSID/Key when I was with TWC. My wireless devices would work fine for a while, then gradually start having problems until by 2 weeks they are completely unable to negotiate an IP from the DHCP. Called AT&T, they reset the gateway, and everything works for 2 more weeks. Most my computers (wired or WiFi) are manually IP configured. Only my laptop (also used on a college WiFi) and visitors use the DHCP server (and the AT&T Boxes).  THUS far I've been reasonably successful by limiting the AT&T Gateway to 3 addresses for my Boxes, letting it issue them to the TV's, then adding my linksys router (ignoring the WAN port and using DHCP on with an allocation of 15 addresses) and setting the Linksys WAP to the #4 port. This weird setup now gets short lasting fits in the form of "Limited Connectivity" for my WiFi devices using Dyamic IP.  It can still access the LAN perfect, only that device has no Internet Access, and Windows says i'm being blocked by a Firewall. It self resolves in a few minutes without me doing anything and it MIGHT come once or so a month, or until they run another update which seems to ALWAYS reset that gateway (I've given up changing the password and now keep a txt on every system since it seems to reset at least monthly). A few days ago it's started giving me IP conflicts that disappeared within 1-2 minutes, which is odd since it is my manual IP's getting the conflicts... It did that for 2 days then hasn't since.
    Currently I'm wired as...
    AT&T Gateway 192.1681.254 w/ 3 DHCP range 1.160-163, WiFi disabled, and 3 LAN ports to 2 TV's and my BEFSR41
BEFSR41 192.168.1.10 w/ 15 DHCP range 1.60-74, WAN port unused, 4 LAN ports to 1 Desktop, 2 unmanaged Netgear 1000 switches, and 1 to the WAP
    WAP54G 192.168.1.11 with it's gateway set to 192.168.1.10
1 Netgear switch provides wired access for the entertainment center (PS3, DVD player, DVR, etc) and open ports for visitors
Other Netgear switch is upstairs and runs to 2 additional desktops and one more cable box...
All my wired NICs are set to a 1.2x address and all configured WiFi devices (Wii and a pair of Android phones) i have on a 1.3x.
Manual IP with a 255.255.255.0 mask and gateway 192.168.1.254, manually entering the DNS from the gateway's Broadband Details page
As far as I've been able to test and observe, that gateway is tempermental (and intermittent so tech support can't EVER find a problem conveniently) with anything using the DHCP other than the cable boxes. My manual set devices have had no problems other than that strange IP conflict that popped up on 3 computers, bugged me 2 days, then just never came back (also ironically the monday i was going to call a tech support about it)
I've attempted to disable the DHCP entirely from the gateway and only use my Linksys DHCP. That seemed to work for a few hours untill, i'm guessing, the leases expired. Then all 3 TV's stopped. Everything getting it's IP manually or from the Linksys continued just fine, internet and all. The cable boxes only returned when i re-activated the 2-Wire's DHCP Server.
I would like to try using the Linksys router to isolate my LAN (and everything else i can) from that 2-Wire with a cascade, just link across on a single static IP to dodge that DHCP, but i havn't been able to get the cablebox upstairs to work off the Linksys DHCP. Even then, I'm not sure how i can get a network split to work. If i only isolated the DHCP over my WiFi, they would still at least loose file-sharing with the my File/Media/Backup PC downstairs. Move that to the other side, then the PC's upstairs loose access. As is it's MOSTLY stable though, i just have to pull apart the gateway and cut down it's DHCP range so my devices will actually get an IP from my linksys. If i don't take away the 2-wires, i still get a high IP fail rate. It would be great if i'm overlooking some way to force all DHCP IP requests -OTHER- than the cable boxes to get their IP from the Linksys and not the 2-Wire
Far as jdaley, I havn't tried to set a cascade since I'm having problems figuring out a means to isolate the boxes (and 2-wire) away from the LAN since one box is upstairs sharing a single cable with the computers there. Someone else seemed to report a success that way. If not that, then only other thing I can think of might be to just manually set all your WiFi IP addresses by hand
Thanks for any other ideas on dodging this 2-Wire's DHCP I'd really appreciate it. I'm really hoping i'm just overlooking something SIMPLE.

  • Linksys EA6500 router power light blinks slowly, not reachable

Hoping somebody can help me with this. I bought a Cisco Linksys EA6500 router a couple of years ago. For various reasons I ended up not actually unboxing it until today. It got left at my mom's place and well, it just didn't get unboxed until today. I connected it, ran the Setup disc and after a little bit of trouble, I got it to work OK. I was using the Admin panel and setting the guest network password etc. Everything seemed great. But then I had the idea to upgrade the Firmware, because I figured the router was a couple of years old, it probably needs a Firmware upgrade. From the admin page I clicked the "Check for upgrades" to the Firmware, but it gave me a red error message "Upgrade server not available" (or something to that effect). I clicked instead on "Manual update" and I had downloaded this file: FW_EA6500v2_1.1.40.166281_prod.img The firmware upgrade process started, there was a progress bar that went for a while, and when that reached the end, I got a spinning wheel animation. This however, never went away. Just spun and spun. I went for a coffee, came back 15 minutes later, it was still spinning and nothing else had happened. I looked at the router itself, and the white CISCO power led on the front of the router is blinking slowly. Kind of fading up and down. I waited another while and then I had waited probably 20 minutes, so I gave up and unplugged the router from the power, waited a few seconds and plugged it back in. Ever since I did this process, it's like completely dead. The CISCO power led is fading up and down. I've tried a 30-30-30 reset. I've connected it to a PC ran the setup program (EA6500v1.2.0.14212.1-Setup.exe). The setup program just reports that it can't reach or find the router. It's like completely broken. I've tried it with two different PC's. None of them can even acknowledge that the router exists. Meanwhile, the power light keeps fading up and down... I only got about 15 minutes use out of my brand new (albeit unboxed for 2 years) EA6500 before, it appears, the Firmware upgrade process completely broke the whole thing. Since my computer doesn't even manage to connect to the router on ANY level, I'm unable to see or change any settings or anything like that. I do have the "reset" button on the back of the router and I've tried it several times (including holding it for over 1 minute), but nothing makes any difference. Sorry about the lengthy post.... I probably could have explained this shorter: Router unresponsive - power LED fading up/down - Setup program does not find router. Anybody able to offer any help?? Thanks in advance.

If you have already tried to use other browsers or computer, try the management mode process.  1st you will need to download the firmware file and teh TFTP software. connect your computer to the modem inorder to have internet access (set your IP to obtain). Download the firmware here: http://www.linksys.com/us/support-article?articleNum=148365 TFTP software is available here: http://downloads.linksys.com/downloads/Tftp.exe Reconnect the computer back to the router and set it back to static IP.  Follow this reset process in this link: http://www.linksys.com/ru/support-article?articleNum=140001 If it asks for a firmware, upload the file. If that doesn't work, proceed with TFTP upgrade. This link will help: http://www.linksys.com/us/support-article?articleNum=137928 I hope that helps!

  • How do I use multiple addresses at one time?

Shouldn't the Adobe server page that allows for the entry of a recipients address tell users how to add another address?  Do we separate them with semicolons? Commas?  Or is it even possible to use multiple addresses?

    Yes, Adobe Send.
Unfortunately, it is NOT spelled out on the page where you enter email addresses of recipients, nor is it revealed if you click on the question mark box by email address.

  • How do I use multiple accounts on the same Mac with Apple TV2?

I have home sharing turned on in two separate accounts on a single MacPro.  When I am logged into both accounts, I can see both accounts' iTunes Libraries available in the AppleTV2.  However, when I try to open each account iTunes Library in the AppleTV2, only one account will open (whichever one I logged into first).  (In other words, I log into Account1 then open iTunes with Home Sharing On, then log into Account2 (while Account1 is still logged on), open iTunes with Home Sharing On. AppleTV2 shows Account1 Library and Account2 Library under Computers, but will only load Account1 Library.  Account2 Library will just cause AppleTV2 to search for the Library then give an error.)  How come AppleTV2 can see both Libraries but will only open one Library?  How can I fix this?
    Thanks,
    zpockets

Thank you for replying.  Both of the accounts are Admin accounts.  The Libraries are kept in the user/music/itunes/itunes media folder on each account.  However, I do use multiple iTunes Libraries on my Account1.  One of the Libraries I use in Account1 is on a separate internal HD.  However, the other Libraries I use in Account1 are stored in user/music/itunes/itunes media folder on the main HD (which hosts both Account1 and Account2).  It doesn't seem to matter whether I am using an iTunes Library on an external drive or the main drive in Account1, I still get the same problem: only account1 library will load.  AppleTV sees that the Account2 Library is there, but it won't load it.

  • How do I use multiple librarys to organize my projects

Is there a way to use multiple libraries to organize my projects. I don't like having all my projects in one library. I'd like separate libraries for Family_Movies, BirthdaysandHolidays, Vacations, etc...
    Thanks.

You can create multiple folders in your Project Library. I have a folder for each year. Then within the year, if I make several videos on one subject (say a trip to Europe) I will create sub folders within the year.
There is no limitation on what you name your Folders, so you could name them Family Movies, Vacations, Birthdays, etc.
When you are in the Project Library View, you can click FILE/NEW FOLDER. For a subfolder, click on the parent folder and then click New Folder.
