Using NI6587 in high speed mode 1GS/S in parallel mode

Hi
We use the NI6587 + PXI-7952R
I am looking for examples of program of using this configuration in high speep Mode (1Gs/s). I want to acquire a bus of 8 bits from a ADC device.
Thanks for your help in advance,
Sebastien

Papa,
There is a good instruction set on getting everything up and running. Not always the easiest to find if you don't know what you are looking for though.
Start with the FGPA Module Installation Guide. This walks you through the hardware install, making sure the FGPA module is installed and so on.
Make sure you have the NI FlexRIO Adapter Module Support installed. This gives you examples to work from. That link is for version 3.4 (I believe the latest).
From there, reference the NI 6587R User Guide and Specifications. It has a good walk through of creating an FPGA project and working with the device.
Hope this helps!

  • Cannot program USB-8452 into I2C High Speed Mode 3.33MHz

Hi, I am using the USB-8452 as I2C high speed host (1.11MHz ~ 3.33MHz) to access slave IC. But I cannot program the host into 3.33MHz with "NI USB-854x I2C Configuration" in the driver. The max speed only reach 1MHz (Fast Mode Plus) thru scope observation. Please tell me what's wrong in my program? Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
Do you currently use the NI-845x driver version later than 2.1?
    Please check the following message.
    http://www.ni.com/pdf/manuals/373865a.pdf
The NI USB-8452 in this kit has been updated to a firmware version that is
incompatible with NI-845x driver versions prior to 2.1. If an NI-845x driver
version prior to 2.1 is installed on your system, you need to upgrade your
driver by using the enclosed installation CD or downloading the latest
    NI-845x driver from ni.com/downloads.
If you cannot upgrade the NI-845x driver on your system, you can refer to

  • How to use PCI-6534 High speed DIO to count the no.of pulses aquired

    HI All
I have PCI-6534 high speed DIO card. My requirement is to count the no.of pulses coming. Here i have an energy meter which generates pulses with frequency of around 8MHz. i need to cunt the no. of pulses coming in, here i am attaching the VI i am using. I could not really count all pulses coming in. right now i am using single line, but the requirement is to develop for 7 lines. I do not know where i am going wrong. Can any of you help me in this regards.
    Thanks

Sorry, not near a LV PC so can't look at your vi now.  Are you limited to using only the 6534?  If all you need to know is the count of pulses from each of the 7 ~8MHz sources, it seems like the amount of data storage required with a 6534 is terribly inefficient.  Since the 7 sources are unlikely to be synchronized in any way and they are each at ~8MHz, you're looking at about 100+ million transitions per second with change detection.  I don't think the hw can keep up with that.  Even using a constant sampling rate of 20 MHz (which just barely satisfies the Nyquist minimum of 2x 8MHz), it's questionable whether you can keep up with that rate for several minutes.  Even supposing the hw and your PCI bus and software can keep up, there's still a TON of processing to do.  20 MB/sec for 20 minutes = 24 GB!
On the other hand, consider the 6602 counter timer board.  Here you would simply set up 7 edge counting tasks, probably without any buffering at all.  At any leisurely pace you want, you can software query the counts of the # of pulses on each of the 7 channels and have an instant answer.  The only issue to deal with is that the counts will rollover when you reach 2**32.  At 8 MHz, this will happen about every 9 minutes.  However, DAQmx provides a nice way to handle this.  There's a property you can query that will tell you if a rollover has occurred.  It automatically resets itself to False after you read it so it's ready to detect the next rollover 9 minutes later.  See my first post in this thread for example.  (Last I knew, only DAQmx does the automatic reset, not traditional NI-DAQ).
If you can possibly buy a 6602, I'd highly recommend it.

  • Is Practical to use ODBC over high speed intenet connections?

I am developing an application using Oracle 10g as back- end and Visual Basic / Access as front-end. ODBC works fine in intranets for this purpose, but I wonder if it will work over high speed internet connections to manage several offices from the headquarters.
Any information on the subject will be appreciated.

Connecting and using database connections over a WAN can be very slow. There are usually several network conversations for even the simplest SQL statements. An application that is used to querying the database each time it needs data can be brought to its knees when the latency goes up, regardless of how much bandwidth is available.
As long as the latency is less than 20ms, you probably won't notice too much. Once it goes over 50ms, you start to curse these database companies that don't use real streaming. At 100ms or more you start thinking that Citrix is the best invention in the world.

  • I have an NI5911 high speed digitizer and would like to acquire a video signal from a CCD using it. Does anyone know if this is possible without buying any more hardware please? If it is, how would I go about it?

The only thing I succeeded in finding on the NI site was about using a different high-speed digitizer in tandem with an IMAQ card but I was hoping not to have to buy an IMAQ card as it means I may as well not have got the NI5911 (a while ago) in the first place. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

You can certainly acquire video signals with the 5911. The only tricky part is that the 5911 does not have any video triggering options. That means that you will have to either find a way to provide your own trigger based on the video signal (that's where the IMAQ board comes into play) or you can just take a lot of data and keep only the data you need once it is in software. For instance, you could take one large record and then use software analysis to determine where the frame sync occurs. Hopefully this was helpful.

  • IMac 27" - i7, Fan running at high speed - roaring noise

I just bought an iMac 27" i7 with 8 gig of RAM and the upgraded 2 gig graphics card on 09/28.  All of my stuff transferred from my old iMac without any real problems.  I turned the system on one morning and after about 2 1/2 hours of use the fans starting running in high speed mode - the noise is unbelievable.  It's so loud you can't possibly work or make a phone call on speakers.  Keep in mind I'm using the system with the same software and in the same manner as my older computer.  I took it to the Genius Bar and they couldn't determine what was wrong with it so they are replacing the machine.
    Anyone else have this problem?

Before taking it in do a SMC reset, you should also run Software Update and update to 10.6.8. If the reset doesn't work the first time then do it 2-3x it will not hurt anything.  Also please follow the instructions as described.
    SMC RESET
    Shut down the computer.
Unplug the computer's power cord and all peripherals.
Press and hold the power button for 5 seconds.
    Release the power button.
    Attach the computers power cable.
Press the power button to turn on the computer.
    PRAM RESET
    Shut down the computer.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    Release the keys.

  • High Resolution Mode no longer works with new vers...

For years I used Skype in high res mode (1280X720) with auto answer to look at the veiw from may vacation house window. This worked great. The picture quality was terrific and the connection was always stable. However, after I upgraded the Skype version on my home windows 8 PC in May, I could only connect at 640X480. I thought the issue was that the mac mini in my vacation house ran a very old version of Skype (on the tiger OS), so I put in a new 2.5GHz core duo processor and upgraded to snow leopard and the latest version of Skype. But this did not help. The only way I could get Hi-Res back was to install old versions of Skype on all my computers. It seems dumb that I have to run old versions of the software, I would really like to run current the versions. Couldn't you add a feature that allows users to overide the system choices and pick the resolution?

  • HP G42 Fan Running in High Speed and Noisy

I had a HP G42 i5 notebook. Recently I send my notebook for repair due to the graphic card problem. I encountered that the fan speed is running in high speed mode after I the repair. I asked the incharge and he told me that they had did the cleaning on the notebook, so the fan will run in high speed and making noise. I did told that person, it was silence before repair and the fan will only run in high speed mode when the notebook's got heat up. But now it's got into the high speed mode even during startup time.
So I would like to get some advice or comment on this. Is it normal that the notebook's fan speed is running in high speed and noisy since startup? Thanks in advance.

    Hi Richard-G,
I'm sorry for the delay in my reply, as I have been out of the office since last Thur.  The instructions would have been the same for your notebook, but not the same BIOS.
This document will guide you through updating your BIOS if you wish.  Since the noise is reduced once Windows begins, I would not worry too much about this.
    Good luck!

  • Replace MiDAS with labview in a high speed camera

Has anyone out there used MiDAS for high speed camera aquisition? The camera came with MiDAS. However the camera can be operated through labview which I'd prefer for better data aquistion. Does anyone have a program for this? Or know somewhere to look? Or help me get started to build my own program.
The camera will be connected to a NI USB 6251

  • Every 8 days when in sleep mode my fan runs up to high speed.  Have to shut down to stop it.  Tried SMC reset no use.  Even powered down for a day when speed up was due, 8 days later ran up to high speed when asleep.  How do I fix this

I was previous running Lion but upgraded a week ago the Mavericks but the fault it still there.    Nearly always happens in middle of the night as when I get up in the morning fan is running at high speed.

Try the troubleshooting steps using the Test Account. The theory is if the Test Account works OK then you know you have an issue with your standard user account. If the problem persists with the Test Account then you know it's a global issue and can begin eliminating items. I would start by eliminating non essential peripherals such as printers, time machine etc. You may find you have a problem with one of those or some app or some setting.

  • Making sure Network High Speed Cable is being used

    Hey all,
    I have a quick question.
I have a new iMac 24 inch Alum computer. I have a highspeed internet system already. My modem is both wireless and linked with cables. I have the cable linked into my Mac.
How can I make sure that my iMac is using the 'cable' instead of wireless? In Boot Camp WinXP mode, I faster download speeds, so I 'think' that OSX is using wireless mode.
    I have Airport turned off.
Is there a way to secure and or set to priority, the 'cable' link route?
    Many thanks...
Loving this Mac! Its a giant iPod!!!
    Bill

Cool.. I didnt know if it was using WiFi or some other wireless direction that I didnt know about.
I am hearing now that others are having download issues also in OSX after the latest update. One found a cure for it at MacRumours.com where they added DNS entries and suddenly the download speeds in cable and AirPort were resolved and back to high speeds.

  • How do I use the High Speed Data Logger with multiple I/O devices?

I am using the High Speed Data Logger vi to read from a 16 channel A/D card (NI PCI-MIO-16E). The project may require more than 16 channels. How can I use High Speed Data Logger to read from two A/D cards? Will it be able to write the data to one file?

The High Speed Data Logger vi will not acquire and right to multiple DAQ boards at the same time without modification. LabVIEW is more than capable of doing this what you are trying to do, but you will have to modify the code.

  • I just set up an Optus Cisco DPQ3925 wireless router to access higher speed internet I signed up for. I have a 4th gen airport extreme I want to put in another room and use as a wifi extender the wifi but I get an error message each time I try. Help?

    Hello all.
I have just set up a new cisco DPQ3925 wireless router that Optus sent me to be able to access the higher speed internet I have signed up for.
I have a 4th gen apple extreme that I want to use to extend the wifi but when I try to update the settings via the airport utility I get a message that says it cannot do so, and to check it is in range and the wifi is set up correctly. I'm not experienced with these things but I can't think what I have done wrong.
Is anybody able to help me please.

You cannot use the AE to extend wireless from a non apple router such as your cisco modem router.. they are not compatible..
You need to tie to the two devices together either with ethernet or something like EOP adapters.. They are about $120 and you can price match in officeworks.

  • I use high contrast mode (am visually impaired); just upgraded to 8.0. When I open a new tab, the background does not high contrast, showing white until the page loads. Is there a setting that can be adjusted to fix this, or is this permanent?

I use Windows Vista, and I use the default Alt+Shift+PrtScn high contrast mode for white text on a black background. I only notice when I click a link that opens a new tab or open a tab via the mouse wheel that becomes the main tab. I can't switch tabs fast enough if I click a link that doesn't open as the main tab to tell if the problem persists. The duration of the non-high contrast background is only as long as the page takes to load. There does not seem to be much lag, but the lack of high contrast is painful enough that I have to close my eyes, so I'm not sure. On a related note, the new status information does not high contrast either, making it impossible for me to read.
