Using OEPE as a database development environment

Howdy. I've installed OEPE (for Gallileo) and it seems to work pretty well for stuff like browsing my database object tree, viewing the contents of packages, etc. However, I'm a bit stymied when it comes to trying to actually use it to develop PL/SQL code, because it won't tell me when I've made an error. For example, I can create new sql file called CTestPackage_h.sql, and type into it a package header like so:
CREATE OR REPLACE PACKAGE cTestPackage AS
     procedure test_me(
     temp FOO NUMBER
END cTestPackage;
There's a syntax error there ("FOO" instead of "IN", "OUT", etc), but when I select and run it, my SQL Results tab says "Succeeded", along with the cryptic "Action Type" of "NLS missing message: OperationCommand_action_exeucte in: org.eclipse.datatools.sqltools.result.PluginResources". Likewise, the status tab says this, with no mention of any compiler errors:
(0 rows affected)
Elapsed Time: 0 hr, 0 min, 0 sec, 0 ms.
When I then refresh my package tree, CTESTPACKAGE appears, but there's nothing under it, and the context menu has a "Show Error" item that displays the real syntax error that occurred ("ERROR at line 4: PLS-00103: Encountered the symbol "NUMBER" when expecting one of the following: := . ) , @ % default character The symbol ":=" was substituted for "NUMBER" to continue. ").
When I right click the package node and choose "Open" it shows the text I entered, and shows "INVALID" on the status line of the details tab. When I right click and click "Compile", it says "Successfully compiled object "IVARLEY"."CTESTPACKAGE". But, it's still invalid, so that's not exactly true.
Is this the intended behavior? If so, I think it's pretty much unusable - every time I made a change to my PL/SQL package code and execute it, I have to refresh my tree, and then right click my package node to see if there were any errors? I'd much rather see my errors immediately. At the very least I'd like to see the "warning: procedure created with compilation errors" message, so that at least I'd know to go check for errors (though, ideally, seeing the actual errors immediately would be even better).
It gets even more confusing, though. When I right click the (invalid) CTESTPACKAGE node in my Data Source Explorer, and click "Edit", it opens it up in a new SQL window, which shows the text I'd entered (minus the trailing "/"). Running it from there does show a status of "Failed", but not because of the invalid syntax - the error message is "ORA_00900: invalid SQL statement", and persists even if I fix the syntax error (change "FOO" to "IN").
So, am I doing something wrong, or is this plugin not really intended for writing PL/SQL code?

I'm looking for the same thing. Thanks for the "show error" tip -- that gets me slightly closer to having a usable environment in Eclipse. I also use the jOra plugin for eclipse. That worked great in earlier version of eclipse, but is a little buggy in galileo.

  • Is there a web-only database development environment?

I have a database solution to create that only needs to be accessible via web browsers. I do not have an existing database, so it is not a matter of connecting an existing database to the web.
Is there a web-only database development environment that would allow me to create the entire database without some non-web database environment like Oracle, Access, 4D, FileMaker etc.
I guess what I want is a web-native database, I don't want to construct it in some environment that has to be "interpreted" in order for it to be presented to a web browser.

Databases are databases. I'm not aware of any products that are specialized for web-only access. And I can't see such a product succeeding, since the existing products are already accessible via web programming.
I don't know what the remarks about "interpreted" mean so I can't help you there.

    Hi,
I want to know how to use PXI-8532 in LabVIEW Development Environment.
    I'm using
    1. Windows7 32bit
    2. LabVIEW Pro 2012 SP1 32bit
    3. NI-Industrial Communications for DeviceNet 2.3
    4. PXIe-1062Q
    5. PXIe-8135
    6. PXI-8532 *2 (Names are "dnet0" and "dnet1".)
    * Both PXI-8532 are installed in the same chassis (PXIe-1062Q).
I want to construct the system that "dnet0" sends data, and "dnet1" receives it. The data type I want to use is an array of bools.
I made VI (test.vi), but it does not work.
Could you tell me the reason why my VI doesn't work correctly.
Thank you so much for your help and time.

    Hi,
Can it be possible for me to use Acrobat SDK for Unix development environment as a server application??If yes, what are the things that should be installed on the client side to make sure that the client should be able see the produced PDF files?? Kindly help me in this regard..

I use Interop.Acrobat.dll as a .NET project reference to open and resave PDF documents. I'd like to do all things I mentioned above.
After years and years, I have concluded that if you do serious PDF development, you need a set of libraries. For instance, if you are doing typesetting type of work ("vertical center", "horizontal center", "margin", etc., etc) , there is an excellent library from a guy in Germany (land of Johannes Gutenberg and printing presses)...
... which turned out to be useless in my next project which dealt with AcroForms.
I know exactly what you mean by "the final truth", sometimes I wish Adobe had some sort of official validating tool (like XML does).
Per your comments, I would recommend you to consider this library. It is available in all languages and its output is the same quality as Adobe's or at least in the same league:

  • Create a ready to use image for SharePoint 2013 development environment.

    Hi
I have a requirement in which we are required to have an Image of the whole SharePoint 2013 environment, (ideally single server installation/standalone as I believe multi-tier would not be possible, or if possible suggest on that also), with all the installations
done- SQL server, SharePoint , language pack if any, App configured, search, service applications, etc etc. so that if at all required we would have that image in a server and provide that image to the developer, he would either mount it or run it and start
    the SharePoint 2013 App development.
    Please suggest on this.
    Thanks in advance.

    Not for imaging purposes.
You could have an environment that is ready-to-go with the bits installed, but not configured. You would then have a post-imaging script that would configure the farm. In this process, you would also need to make sure SQL Server was aware of the server's
    new name (see http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms143799.aspx).

  • Using Oracle Database Express Edition in development environment

    Hi All,
I have doubt regarding the usage Oracle Database Express Edition in Development environment. I am not sure weather I can ask a non technical question here or not. Pleas forgive me if I have done any thing wrong.
I am working in an IT company where we take up projects outsourced by our clients. As part of our current project we are making some modification to a web application used by an institution. Our client is using Oracle Data Base standard edition. Due to budgetary constraints of our Company we can not set up a Oracle standard edition data base in our development environment.
So would it be illegal if we use  Oracle Database Express Edition in our development environment?  We can guarantee that  only our internal development team which comprise a maximum of 10 people will have access to this development database and this development data base will never be opened to our Client for their business purpose(Who have their own Oracle standard edition in their environment). As part of the project we delver only table DDL script and stored procedure to our client and they put it in their environment. The sole purpose of a internal Express database will be development only.
Could some one please tell me if it would be violation of license agreement if we install Oracle Database Express Edition in our development environment.

    Hi Paul,
Actually I have already gone through the Oracle Technology Network Developer License Terms for Oracle Database 11g Express Edition . But was not quiet clear about the content. It says in the license terms that "We grant you a nonexclusive, nontransferable limited license to use the programs for: (a) purposes of developing, prototyping and running your applications for your own internal data processing operations". Does the term "your application" includes an application we are developing for another company. Since the Express database  is installed in the development environment only and is not opened to any one else not even for Our client it definitely falls under the term "internal data processing operations" right?

  • Can i use traditional SqlPlus development environment  in Oracle11GR1 ?

    Hi,
i have downloaded Oracle 11GR1, but i want to write sql codes in the tradition SqlPlus environment that was in Oracle 9i or 8i (that was having white color background) .So how to get that SqlPlus development environment here ?With the current download and installation SqlDeveloper has been installed and command prompt sqlplus has been provided. But i want to use that white screen sqlplus environment .Please guide how to get that one .
    Thanks.

First create a shortcut icon on your desktop to sqlplus.exe (in your oracle_home/bin directory).
Then right click on the icon and select Properties. Change these settings:
    Tab: General
Put the instance name in the text box
    Tab: Shortcut
Target: (your oracle_home)\bin\sqlplus.exe userid/password@databasename  --< use with caution
       Start in: (your oracle_home)\bin
       Run: Normal Window
Change icon to whatever you want
    Tab: Options
       Cursor size: Small
       Command History, Buffer size: 50
                      , Number of buffers: 4
       Display options: Window
       Edit Options: check QuickEdit mode
                     check Insert mode
    Tab: Font
       Size: 8x12
       Font: Raster Fonts
    Tab: Layout
(Screen Buffer Size is the 'virtual' size of the screen
Window Size is what you see on the screen
having a buffer size of 2000 allows sql plus to display
very wide rows when sql plus LINESIZE is also 2000)
       Screen buffer size: Width: 2000
                           Height: 2000
       Window size: Width: 125
                    Height: 55
       check Let system position window
    Tab: Colors
I like aqua on black, but whatever
    Tab: Compatibility
Leave all these uncheckedI like to include my userid and password in the Target setting, but this can be a security risk so use with caution.
And some of these settings will depend on your monitor size, your eyesight, etc. so adjust to taste.
Next, edit your glogin.sql file (it's in oracle_home/sqlplus/admin) and add these lines:
    SET serveroutput on
    SET linesize 2000
    SET pagesize 50000
    SET trimspool on
    SET long 50000
    SET tab off
ALTER SESSION SET NLS_DATE_FORMAT = 'DD-MON-YYYY HH24:MI:SS';You can use any format you like for the date format but make sure it includes the time portion.
This is also where you will put the COL command to modify the column you mentioned.
Something like: COL some_column FOR 999999
I also have this query in my glogin.sql:
    SELECT d.name, s.sid,s.serial#, p.spid
    FROM   v$process p
          ,v$session s
          ,v$database d
    WHERE  p.addr = s.paddr
AND    s.audsid = userenv('SESSIONID');This info can be handy for certain data dictionary queries (like v$session_longops).
Next, create a directory somewhere to hold all your SQL Plus helper scripts. Like c:\oraclescripts.
Create a permanent environment variable called SQLPATH which points to this directory.
Whenever you run a script from the SQL Plus prompt it will search this directory so you don't have to qualify it every time.
Now double click the icon and try it out.

  • Using OEPE for OSB Development

    Hello All-
    I have downloaded oepe-galileo-all-in-one-11.1.1.5.0.201003170852-win32 from http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/developer-tools/eclipse/downloads/index.html
Oracle Service Bus 11.1.1.3 is installed on a Remote Windows 2003 Server and I am planning to use OEPE IDE in my local desktop to develop projects and deploy it to the remote OSB server(mentioned above).
I would like to know if there is any plugin that needs to be installed to use OEPE as the IDE for OSB (Similar to JDeveloper 11g, where we have to install the SOA composite editor to develop SOA composites) ?
Kindly provide your inputs as I am unable to figure out on how to develop OSB services using OEPE.
    Thanks for your time.
    Regards,
    Dibya

The steps followed for this are:
1 Download and Install Weblogic+OEPE combined installer on your local
2 Download and install OSB on your local specifying the same ORACLE_HOME as in step 1 above.
Step 1 will do the base installation for OEPE and step 2 will add the required plugins to develop service bus projects in OEPE.

    1. would freely downloaded oracle software able to accomodate this? The freely downloadable software is the same as the base level of the purchased software. But you need to be aware of license restrictions. Just because it is a "test" system doesn't mean you don't need a purchased license. And without a support contract, you do not get access to patches.
    2. Is single instance db is enough to hold huge size db as there will be less number of user connections.Multiple instances (RAC) have nothing to do with the size of the db.
    4. WHAT are all the configuration settings (disk space, ram size, etc) would you suggest to me to have on development environment. This is totally dependant on local factors. "Test", "development" or "production" have no bearing on any of these factors.

  • [Forum FAQ] How do i use xml stored in database as dataset in SQL Server Reporting Services?

    Introduction
There is a scenario that users want to create SSRS report, the xml used to retrieve data for the report is stored in table of database. Since the data source is not of XML type, when we create data source for the report, we could not select XML as Data Source
type. Is there a way that we can create a dataset that is based on data of XML type, and retrieve report data from the dataset?
    Solution
In this article, I will demonstrate how to use xml stored in database as dataset in SSRS reports.
Supposing the original xml stored in database is like below:
    <Customers>
    <Customer ID="11">
    <FirstName>Bobby</FirstName>
    <LastName>Moore</LastName>
    </Customer>
    <Customer ID="20">
    <FirstName>Crystal</FirstName>
    <LastName>Hu</LastName>
    </Customer>
    </Customers>
Now we can create an SSRS report and use the data of xml type as dataset by following steps:
In database, create a stored procedure to retrieve the data for the report in SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS) with the following query:
    CREATE PROCEDURE xml_report
    AS
    DECLARE @xmlDoc XML;
    SELECT @xmlDoc = xmlVal FROM xmlTbl WHERE id=1;
    SELECT T.c.value('(@ID)','int') AS ID,
    T.c.value('(FirstName[1])','varchar(99)') AS firstName,
    T.c.value('(LastName[1])','varchar(99)') AS lastName
    FROM
    @xmlDoc.nodes('/Customers/Customer') T(c)
    GO
P.S. This is an example for a given structured XML, to retrieve node values from different structured XMLs, you can reference here.
Click Start, point to All Programs, point to Microsoft SQL Server, and then click Business Intelligence Development Studio (BIDS) OR SQL Server Data Tools (SSDT). If this is the first time we have opened SQL Server Data Tools, click Business Intelligence
Settings for the default environment settings.
On the File menu, point to New, and then click Project.
In the Project Types list, click Business Intelligence Projects.
In the Templates list, click Report Server Project.
    In Name, type project name.
Click OK to create the project.
In Solution Explorer, right-click Reports, point to Add, and click New Item.
In the Add New Item dialog box, under Templates, click Report.
In Name, type report name and then click Add.
In the Report Data pane, right-click Data Sources and click Add Data Source.
For an embedded data source, verify that Embedded connection is selected. From the Type drop-down list, select a data source type; for example, Microsoft SQL Server or OLE DB. Type the connection string directly or click Edit to open the Connection Properties
dialog box and select Server name and database name from the drop down list.
For a shared data source, verify that Use shared data source reference is selected, then select a data source from the drop down list.
Right-click DataSets and click Add Dataset, type a name for the dataset or accept the default name, then check Use a dataset embedded in my report. Select the name of an existing Data source from drop down list. Set Query type to StoredProcedure, then select
    xml_report from drop down list.
In the Toolbox, click Table, and then click on the design surface.
In the Report Data pane, expand the dataset we created above to display the fields.
Drag the fields from the dataset to the cells of the table.
    Applies to
    Reporting Services 2008
    Reporting Services 2008 R2
    Reporting Services 2012
    Reporting Services 2014

I have near about 30 matrics. so I need a paging. I did every thing as per this post and it really works for me.
I have total four columns. On one page it should show three and the remaining one will be moved to next page.
Problem occurs when in my first row i have 3 columns and in next page if I have one columns then it show proper on first page but on second page also it gives me three columns insted of one. the first column data is exactly what I have but in remaining two
columns it shows some garbage data.
    I have data like below.
    Metric ColumnNo RowNo
    1 1
    1
    2 2
    1
    3 3
    1
    4 1
    2
so while grouping i have a row parent group on RowNo and Column group on ColumnNo.
can anyone please advice on this.

My intention of performing FOD schema installation was to follow the tutorial "Database Development with JDeveloper" at http://st-curriculum.oracle.com/obe/jdev/obe11jdev/ps1/databasedevelopment/obe_%20databasedevmt.htm. But I stopped at the last topic "Creating and Debugging PL/SQL Objects in the Database" ->"Running a SQL Script to Create an Object Type" when trying to create a object using script on the page.
    This is the script:
    ------------------------------------------------start
    REM
    REM Create object ORDER_ITEMS_REC
    REM
CREATE or REPLACE type ORDER_ITEMS_REC as object
    ORDER_ID NUMBER(15),
    LINE_ITEM_ID NUMBER(3),
    PRODUCT_ID NUMBER(15),
    QUANTITY NUMBER(6),
    UNIT_PRICE NUMBER(8,2),
    CREATED_BY VARCHAR2(60),
    CREATION_DATE DATE,
    LAST_UPDATED_BY VARCHAR2(60),
    LAST_UPDATE_DATE DATE,
    OBJECT_VERSION_ID NUMBER(15)
    show errors;
    --------------------------------------------------end
and the error message I got was
    ------------------------------------------------start
    Error report:
    ORA-01031: insufficient privileges
    01031. 00000 - "insufficient privileges"
    ------------------------------------------------end
I was wandering whether the error of FOD installation could cause the error of the tutorial?
    Any response will be appreciated.

    1. you dont have to insall Oracle database at the BO machine side, you just need any database to hold the BO repository.
    2. you cant connect directly using BO, only Crystal reports can connect directly to R3 database, you need to have a BW in between.
extract your data into the BW, and let BO connect to BW using the BO integration kit for SAP solutions.
    3. no you dont have to have 3 different machines, using one BO machine you connect to them all, but you may need build a  BO environment, (Development, Production servers)
    good luck

    We have purchased a new machine Solaris 10 OS machine ( 5.10 Generic_125100-07 sun4u sparcSUNW,Sun-Fire-V210 )
with the objective to replace the old development H/W and OS.

    2. I ported over all my sourcecodes and makefiles from the old machine ( Solaris 6 ) to the new machine ( Solaris 10 )
    3. I did a recompilation of the source codes on the new Solaris 10 machine and hit many errors as followings:
"/opt/SUNWspro/prod/include/CC/rw7/rw/rstream.h", line 46: Error: The name istream is ambiguous, istream and std::istream.
"/opt/SUNWspro/prod/include/CC/rw7/rw/rstream.h", line 46: Error: The type "istream" is incomplete.
"/opt/SUNWspro/prod/include/CC/rw7/rw/stringid.h", line 50: Error: The name ostream is ambiguous, ostream and std::ostream.
"/opt/SUNWspro/prod/include/CC/rw7/rw/stringid.h", line 50: Error: The name ostream is ambiguous, ostream and std::ostream.
"/opt/SUNWspro/prod/include/CC/rw7/rw/rwdate.h", line 82: Error: The name istream is ambiguous, istream and std::istream.
"/opt/SUNWspro/prod/include/CC/rw7/rw/vstream.h", line 92: Error: The name ios is ambiguous, ios and std::ios.
"/opt/SUNWspro/prod/include/CC/rw7/rw/vstream.h", line 92: Error: eofbit is not a member of ios.

"/opt/SUNWspro/prod/include/CC/rw7/rw/cstring.h", line 347: Error: The name istream is ambiguous, istream and std::istream.
    Questions:

    1. Can anyone advise on these errors messages that i am seeing?

    1. Can anyone advise on these errors messages that i am seeing? My guess would be that the names have changed from Solaris 6 to Solaris 10.
    2. Can i say that as long i can successful recompile my codes on Solaris 10 , my application will work? No. I've seen GNU utilities that compile without error and then fail on make test or make check. A clean compile only means that, a clean compile nothing more.
    3. Can i simply copy my application ( Compiled in Solaris 6 ) directly to the new Solaris 10 machine and expect it to run properly? What are the concerns if i adopt this approach. It might. The easiest way to find out is to just move it and see what happens. On a test machine of course.

  • Setting up Oracle DB 11G in a development environment

    Hi
I need to setup a new development environment with Oracle Database 11g and Oracle Apps Server 10G Forms and Reports.
Currently we are running a live system (using Microsoft Virtual PC) on a domain and the virtual servers are joined to the domain.
Where I want to get to with the new development environment is to be able to eventually move these new virtual servers to a completely new domain.
What would be the best way to set this up to minimize the amount of work when setting up the database and apps server with the assumption that I will want to migrate the virtual servers to a new domain in the future. Would it be better to set up a basic workgroup and do the installation of both virtual servers in a workgroup environment?
Also besides having security enhancements is there any advantage of having Oracle installed on a server versus installing on a Windows XP box?
    Many thanks.
    Spencer

İf you first try to create db you get above errors, then you select "Create new objects in schema" option drop&create process starts.
    Result :
TESTTYPEıD_TRG, CUSTOMOPTıONıD_TRG , ıSSUEVERSİONTYPEıD_TRG triggers are dropped and but not created again. ETESTPAGEID_TRG, TESTCASEATTACHMENTID_TRG, ATTCHSTDATA_TRG are newly created instead
As I mentioned above after creation of ATTCHSTDATA_TRG, it throws an error and process stop. In additon, due to this error, all the dropped views are not created again.
All my problem is newly created triggers an couldnt created views I suppose.
    Please advice
    thank you

  • Creating or copying application express users from development environment

    Hello,
Hope someone can answer my question soon.
I am kind of new to the application express development and to Oracle database too ( about 8 month). I developed an application on development environment at my work. Now it's time to deploy this application to test and production environment. This application is secured so I had an ACL page were I setup 2 users that they can view and edit data, and I setup myself as an admin for this application.
I succsessfully deployed the application on the test and production environment but I cannot login and not other users. How do I setup or to copy same users from Development to production environment.
I am using apex 3.0.1 and database 10g.
on Development I have workspace called development and the schema is DEV. For production I have a workspace called production and the schema called prod. So I am dealing with different 2 workspaces and 2 different schemas but one database instance.
Thank you in advance for your assistance.
    Kind Regards,
    Sofia.

    Hello,
APEX has a utility to export the workspace and the users. In the application, go to export/import --> export --> workspace users (this is not the default view, and you’ll need to choose it). This will generate a SQL script you can import into the source instance.
In general, it’s best to keep the same environment in the development (test) and production instances – The same workspace ID, name, and application ID. These are pre-condition to be allowed to import single page/components between the instances. Otherwise you will have to import the entire application, each time you need to update the application.
In case you can’t maintain the same environment in your instances, you’ll need to manually edit the exported script. If the workspace already exist, you need to delete the ‘Workspace’ section. Then you’ll need to edit the user details, setting the default schema correctly.
    Hope this helps,
    Arie.

  • Oracle9iAS R2: Development Environment

    Hello all,
I have some/following questions for those who are using 9iAS R2 in a production environment.
    - 9iAS R2 deployment architecture best practices
         - How does your org. configure their Development/Release(Stage)/Production Environments
              - Are they on the same box or on different boxes
              - Do they share the Infrastructure Database or maintain three separate installations of 9iAS R2
         - What are application build/Version Control best practices
              - Describe this in multiple developer scenario
         - Application migration (procedures/things to watch) from Dev -> Rel -> Prod
         - Refresh/Clone Dev or Rel environments from Production
         - Load balancing
         - Using Web Cache
         - Backup/Restore Application configuration files and how does it keep in synch with Infrastructure
It's obvious, I am trying to define an environment for developing and releasing 9iAS R2 applications. The emphasis is on STRUTS/JSP applications. I am also trying to figure out whether to use STRUTS or BC4J-UIX frameworks for the applications.
    Any comments/direction appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Manish
