Using one computer to control another - wirelessly

I think this is a simple question but I have no idea how to start.
I want to use my iBook to tell my iMac - both on the same wireless network - to open iTunes and which songs to play. Sounds like the sort of thing I should be able to do but, like I already said, no idea where to start.
Can anyone put me on the right track?

This can be done by remote desktop connection / VNC. However, it can also be done via AppleScript if you like as well.
Apple Remote Desktop is a separate product, however, you can enable in the Sharing preferences to allow remote desktop connections and connect via freeware apps like Chicken of the VNC. This sill allow you to view and interact with the desktop of one machine from the other.
In the case of AppleScript, you can enable receiving Apple Remote Events on the iMac and then control iTunes (or whatever) as you would were it locally. For example:
tell application iTunes of machine "eppc://username:[email protected]"
play playlist "80's Hair Bands"
end tell

Can I remove an activation from one computer and activate another computer?

Hi, your license to NM has either a 3 or 8 computer limit depending on if you got Essentals or Pro.
If you are at your limit and want to take a computer off the license to make room for a new one, you should contact NM by phone.

Router: D-Link WBR-2310 A1 FW:1.04, connected to Comcast High Speed Internet
Desktop, iMac: NM is on the Windows Partition, using Boot camp to access Windows, Windows 7 Pro 32-bit RTM, Broadcom Wireless N Card, McAfee Personal Firewall 2009,
Mac Partition of the iMac is using Mac OS X 10.6.1 Snow Leopard

  • How can I remove the Apple ID authorization only on one computer and authorize another in his place?

how can I remove the Apple ID authorization only on one computer and authorize another in his place?

    De-authorize the computer in question.
    Then authorize the new computer.
Or de-authorize all computers and authorize only the ones that actually exist.

  • Why can i use one computer to sync music

It ***** to find out that with using iTunes, you can only use one computer to sync things such as music. The computer that I was previously using with syncing died on me and now that I am on a new one it says that I have to erase everything on my iPhone just to put one mixtape on it which is complete BS. So I ask you Apple, iTunes support, or whoever, why?

If you had your itunes backed up then you would not have that problem. You could restore it using time machine, if on a mac, or other backup software, if on a pc. Also if you had itunes match then you don't need itunes at all to sync your music up anymore.

    How I can do this?
Result I want to get is:
In one query I have material prices in another material quantities. I want to calculate inventory value (price * quantity). Moreover prices are on plant level, quantities on storage type level. Plant is atribute of storage type.
    Can I do this?
    Regards,
    Andrzej

    Hi Andrzej,
please check out this thread: Set parameters values depending on other parameters
I had a discussion about query results as input for another query in there.
For creating a workbook, just click on the save button after you ran your query in the bex.

Adding media directly to the media folder does not make it appear in the library.  iTunes doesn't really 'look' at that folder except to go to specific files when you call upon them from a library. You have to drag new content to each user's library, that is assuming each user has their own library.

  • How can I control the PP (monitor) volume using my computer volume controls.

I'm no longer able to control the PP (monitor) volume using my computer volume controls. I've always controlled the monitor volume using my computer volume levels, but starting today, that has changed.
The volume is just playing at the level recorded with no way for me to turn down or up.
I performed a disc repair and that didn't solve the problem.

Does the OS volume control affect anything?  System beeps and sych?

  • Any idea how you can safely use ONE computer for BOTH work and internet?

I'm planning to set up a small music project studio, built around a powerbook, that I will be sharing with a friend of mine. My friend is going to use the computer for music AND heavy internet use, but I will only use it for music work (off-line).
The thing is then that I am slightly worried about viruses, worms, spyware and similar unwanted stuff 'sneaking in' when the laptop is online. Even with firewall and anti-virus I guess there is always a risk.
Any idea if there is a way of keeping things completely separate?
How about if I had a bootable external hard drive for my work, with the Mac OS system on. Then when I'm working I could boot up from that drive (and use the computer off-line).
Maybe we could even remove the internal hard drive from the powerbook (?), and use the powerbook with two external hard drives instead: One bootable drive for me and another bootable drive for my studio partner (and then only connect one hard drive at the time).
Any idea if this would work well..? (I'm not sure if i.e. a virus could sneak in anyway, through the PRAM, L2 cache or the RAM or something similar) Or does anyone have any other suggestions...? Any ideas much appreciated. Thanks!

Not too much worry with Macs, but get an Ethernet Router, skip Wireless, use strong Passwords.

Excellent idea, especially if the heavy Net user doesn't have Admin rights.

Just about foolproof! Just need 2 more drives for backup. Not sure why you'd want to remove the internal HD though.
No Viruses yet in OSX land, in fact the only Malware I know about requires you to install it for itself!
You'll be OK, that separate drives idea is pure genius.:-)

  • If two people use one computer, but we have separte itunes accounts, Apple ID, and icloud will my apps I get be stored in their account too since we are using the same computer?

If two people share the same computer, but have separate itunes account, Apple ID, and icloud and one of them downloads an app will it also go into the other persons account since y'all use the same computer

If you  have separate user accounts on the computer, then your downloaded apps are stored in your iTunes Library. See the following for dealing with having multiple users on the same computer: How to use multiple iPhone, iPad, or iPod devices with one computer.
Using More than One iDevice on the Same Computer
This applies mainly to couples who are adding another device and do not want their email, messages, etc. being duplicated on both devices. To begin read: How to use multiple iPhone, iPad, or iPod devices with one computer. You need to establish a separate Apple ID and password for whomever will use the new iDevice. See Apple - My Apple ID and Frequently asked questions about Apple ID. The easiest way is to do this on the computer using iTunes: iTunes- How to set up an Apple ID within iTunes.
On the computer create a new user account for the person with the new iDevice. This will be the user account that person will always use. He/She will no longer use the other user account. This way that person will have a separate iTunes Library
Start by transferring the new device(s) to a new account along with all your data.  Save any photo stream photos that you want to keep to your camera roll (unless they are already in the camera roll) by opening your Photos app, tap on Albums icon at the bottom. Now, tap on My Photo Stream album; tap Select; tap on the photos you want to select;, tap the share icon (box with upward facing arrow) in the lower left corner; then tap Save to Camera Roll.
If you are syncing notes with iCloud that you want to keep then you need to open each of your notes and email them to yourself. Later you can copy and paste the text into new notes created in your new account.
Tap on Settings > iCloud > Delete Account (only deletes it from this device, not from iCloud; the person keeping the current account will not be affected,) provide the password to turn off Find My Phone and choose Keep on My iDevice when prompted.  Sign in with a different Apple ID to create your new account. Choose Merge to upload your data.
Once you are on separate accounts, you can each go to icloud.com and delete the other person's data from your account.
Note: The essence of the above was created by user, randers4. I

  • Problem with SMTP from one computer but not another

I have an iMac connected directly to my network via Ethernet and a MacBook Pro which connects via wireless. I have a program installed on my iMac that sends me alerts via e-mail, and it works just fine. When I try and use Mail, however, on my MBP with the exact same settings and credentials, it fails. To make this even more perplexing, Mail works fine from my office on a different network.
To work around this, I use Comcast's SMTP server on my laptop, but why would my regular e-mail provider's SMTP work on one machine and not another on the same network? The only difference is one is connected via Ethernet and the other by wireless.
I use a Time Capsule as my router and wireless access point. Has anyone got an idea about what's causing this?

Please report the relationship, if any, of the "regular e-mail provider's SMTP" and your ISP? If Comcast is your ISP, they regularly block use of Port 25, but if you have selected Use Default Port in Mail Preferences/Accounts/Account Information for the Outgoing Server, then it may be making the wrong choice to work with Comcast. Regardless of the ISP, for this regular account click on the arrows beside the name of the SMTP, choose Edit Server List, then click on the Advanced Tab that will then be seen and choose Use Custom Port, then enter the proper port directly -- that port is probably Port 587, but that could depend on the advisory of the email provider for using their SMTP.

  • Implicit read with assembly module instance working on one computer, but not another

    Hi,
I'm trying to set up an on-site computer to run a VI which uses assembly instances for data communication, but for some reason I'm unable to establish a connection to the PLC.
I'm running the example vi "CreateAssemblyInstance.vi" to try and get the communication set up before I start using my actual program.
When I run this code on my development machine, I'm able to establish a connection to the PLC and read data. I then go into RSLogix 5000 and change the IP address to the on-site machine and try to run the test VI there, but I'm unable to make a connection. LabVIEW-side, the program thinks that it's established a connection and is reading/writing data, but PLC-side I'm getting a "Connection Failed" message in RSLogix.
I find it weird that LabVIEW thinks the connection was established just fine, which the RSLogix says it can't connect to the VI.
Just wondering if anyone else has had this happen. We aren't sure why the same VI runs on one machine but not another. We used RSLogix to change the IP address of the target machine, so we don't think that's the issue. And both computers are on the same network, so we don't think it's a firewall issue either.
LabVIEW-side, things should be identical. I'm running the same example VI that came with the Ethernet/IP module. PLC-side, we're changing the target IP of the module within RSLogix 5000 (and we're sending the updated information to the PLC) to match the machine we're trying to make a connection with. Are we missing any steps? This is the first time we've tried using an assembly module, so we're having a hard time troubleshooting.
Any ideas on why this is happening?

I'm pretty sure we're using a generic ethernet module:
I can communicate explicitly with the problem computer, it's able to use 'Tag Read' and 'Tag Write' to communicate with the PLC.
We started having another problem just recently too. The Tag Read and Write commands are almost always timing out. I keep getting the error message -251723752:
Detailed error info: Error -251723752 occurred at EthernetIP Tag Read REAL.vi;Details: The request response was not received in the requested timeout period    Possible reason(s):  Ethernet/IP Industrial Protocol: (Hex 0xF0FF0018) The request response was not received in the requested timeout period
I can't figure out what's causing this all of a sudden, could these issues be related?

  • Sync Books from one computer, movies from another?

The title describes it...is there a way to sync movies from one computer and my books from another computer to my iPad?  I have a Macbook Pro that I use mainly for work, but also use it for some personal stuff.  However, I keep all my movies on my iMac at home and the iTunes library there.  I keep all my books on my Macbook Pro.  Is there a way to make this work?  Or should I just get all my books onto my iMac?  That would be a chore, but would be doable.  I have been purchasing books on Kindle and then importing them into iBooks because the app is better.
Any suggestions would be greatly apprecaited!  Thanks in advance!

Yeah...that's probably what I will be doing.  A bit of a hassle as I use my MBP MUCH more than I use my iMac, but not too bad.  I use my iPad more for books and everything BUT watching movies.  However, I have a 2TB media server HD on my iMac where all my movie content lies.  My music is on my MBP, but use iTunes Match, so that's a wash.
The Kindle to iBooks thing is awesome.  A bit of a process, but awesome.  Here's the article that explains it all...

  • Store credit shows up on one computer, but not another

    Happy Easter everyone,
I was wondering why my store credit shows up on one authorized computer, but not another? Is there a way to fix this? Or will I just have to make my purchases on that computer?
    Thanks
    Jason

An account's balance should show wherever you use the account (computer's iTunes, and in the App Store, iTunes store and iBookstore on iOS devices). Have you tried logging out and back into the account on the computer that it's not showing : Store > Sign Out menu option, that will then change to a Store > Sign In option (my balance has sometimes been slow to update on my computers/devices)

  • Music on one computer, applications on another. Possible?

I just got a new iPod Touch
    Here's my problem.
My main computer is a MacBook, which has all my contacts, calenders, etc. It has a 160GB hard drive. I also have an iMac with a 250GB hard drive. I would like to have all my music on my iMac, but everything else on my MacBook. Can I use my iPod in this way? With my music library coming from one computer, and everything else coming from another?
    Thanks!

i think you will need to manage your iPod manually to do that, but i think it's possible.
