Using Oracle Clusterware for keeping other things than RAC HA
Hello.
I'm wondering who else out there has used Oracle Clusterware to monitor items other than RAC.
There are some good examples on
http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/database/clusterware/index.html
But I was interested in finding other examples as well.
Thanks,
Erik
I am in the process of getting Clusterware to protect a single-instance (non-RAC) database... and not doing too well!
The theory behind it looks the same as for any non-Oracle app in that it just uses scripts (in this case Perl) to do the monitoring/stopping/starting.
My issue is once I've created the profile and registered it Clusterware just can't do a thing with it. It just errors and reports an unknown state. I have a SR on the go for it and it's been referred to the internal bods for review because everything looks right but it just doesn't work.
Has anybody achieved this and actually got it working?

Hi,
I am very new to Weblogic Application Server. I have to set-up Weblogic Application Server 6.1 in cluster.The operating System is Solaris Sparc.
What I want to know is that is it possible to configure Weblogic Application Server in Cluster using Oracle Clusterware?
Also which cluterware will be a better solution for this Oracle Clusterware or Sun Clusterware?
If you can give me url of some doc regarding this also , I will be more than thankfull.
If anybody has any idea about it please reply it.

Ask timesten 11.2 Using Oracle Clusterware to Manage Active Standby Pair
Using Oracle Clusterware to Manage Active Standby Pairs
http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E13085_01/doc/timesten.1121/e13072/cluster.htm#CCHCFAAD
What is that mean ?
I have to use Share Storage for... Oracle Clusterware?
I think right?... or wrong ?
Can I have VIP on Master node, and then master down... standby will active with VIP, right ?A TimesTen A/S pair is a replicated configuation where a pair of TimesTen datastores, usually located on different machines, act in many ways as a single unit. The active master can process both queries and DML (insert/update/delete) while the standby master can only process queries (think of this as a little like Active Dataguard). Applications that run on the same machine as one of the TT datastores can connect to it via the very high performance 'direct mode' while applications running on other machines can access the datastores in client/server mode. There is a clearly defined procedure for failing over if the active master fails (which involves promoting the standby master to active) and for recovering a failed store back to the correct role. Direct mode applications must failover with the datastore whereas for client/server applications the connection(s) need to be failed over. The basic A/S pair replication mechanism has been available since TimesTen 6.0. The replication configuration is defined via special SQL syntax and monitoring and management (failover control etc.) is performed by way of built-in procedure calls. However, in TT 6.0 and 7.0 the actual monitoring and management of the A/S pair, including failover, is left for the user to implement themselvses or via some custom integration with an external cluster manager.
TimesTen 11g adds two major new capabilities:
1. Automatic client connection failover for client/server connections. Think of this as very similar to Oracle DB TAF and FAN. This does not require VIPs or Clusterware since it is implemented completely within TimesTen. However it works very well when used in onjunction with Clusterware.
2. A deep integration between TimesTen and Oracle Clusterware. All aspects of Timesten A/S pair definition, deployment, management and recovery are handled by Clusterware. There is just a single configuration file and a single TimesTen utility (ttCWAdmin) involved. Of course you need a properly configured Clusterware setup first which will require some form of shared storage (for OCR and voting disks) but TT storage (checkpoint and log files) does not need to be on shared storage. Setting up TT for use with Clusterware is very quick and easy (maybe 30 minutes the first time you do it and much quicker thereafter once you know what you are doing). From then on Clusterware will manage all aspects of failover and recovery completely automatically. VIPs are not required but can be used if desired e.g. for application failover purposes. Clusterware can also manage the failover of direct mode applications. Also, you can define automated backup cycles and spare nodes that can be used if a node suffers some permanent failure. The Clusterware integration offers very rich functionality but also very fast failover (typically just a few seconds in my testing).
Hope that helps clarify.

Can I use Leopard Server for a few things without a static IP/DNS mapping?
Caveat: I'm pretty capable at setting up and running macs, but not a crack server admin or anything like that. I don't write code and my eyes start to glaze over when you start talking about Kerbos and the like...
Question: I'd like to use Leopard server for a few things on my local network - with some vpn access to the same services:
- iCal server (the most important feature) for 3 users
- File server services for Time Machine (yes, base Leopard can do this)
- vpn access into the iCal server for one user
Do I have to go through the headache of switching over from a dynamic IP to a static IP, setting up DNS mapping, etc? Or is there a simpler way?

pullareddyHi
Each time when you start your computer, you need to restart Oracle as well, its only with Windows XP. The process you have to follow each time is:
Start -->Run and then type CMD to open command prompt.
In command prompt type
svrmgrl and then press
connect internal/oracle and then press
startup force and then press
If you have any problem, then please email me, [email protected]

Using Oracle Paser for schema validation
Hi,
I am trying to use oracle parser for schema validation. I get hold of oracle parser using jaxp api. Below is the code snippet. When i set the attribute to turn the schema validation on, orale parser does not recognize this jaxp attribute . How can i do schema validation using oracle's xml parser implementaion that i get using jaxp?
String JAXP_SCHEMA_LANGUAGE = "http://java.sun.com/xml/jaxp/properties/schemaLanguage";
String W3C_XML_SCHEMA = "http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema";
javax.xml.parsers.DocumentBuilderFactory factory = javax.xml.parsers.DocumentBuilderFactory.newInstance();
factory.setValidating(validate);
factory.setNamespaceAware(true);
factory.setAttribute (JAXP_SCHEMA_LANGUAGE,W3C_XML_SCHEMA);
javax.xml.parsers.DocumentBuilder builder = factory.newDocumentBuilder();
ThanksDOMParser domParser=new DOMParser();
domParser.setValidationMode(XMLParser.SCHEMA_VALIDATION);
domParser.setXMLSchema(SchemaUrl);
DefaultHandler handler=new DefaultHandler();
DOMParser.setErrorHandler(handler);
Parse the XML document to validate with the XML schema.
domParser.parse(XmlDocumentUrl); -

Creating a Master virtual hard disk and using the same for all other VM's
Hi,
We would like to create a master virtual hard disk and use the same for all other VM's. Can we do that ?
my requirements :
1) create 10 VM's
2) first create a master virtual hard disk with win OS and use the same to create the 10 VM's.
3) After creating the VM's change the HDD size.
-- if i have created master virtual disk with 500GB , and use the same for creating a virtual machine. can we change the HDD size to 1TB ?
After creating the VM's ,i will change the system names and activate the windows accordingly.
Will there be any implications ,if we can/will do like this.
Thanks.Hi Suren424,
I think Using Differencing Disks may cover your needs .

Using Airtunes for other things than iTunes?
Hi,
Is it possible to use my Airport Express, which is connected to speakers around the house, for other sounds than just from iTunes? So I can hear different sounds from all applications as though it were my built in speakers I was using?
Thanks.
McHave a look at Rogue Amoebe's Airfoil:
"With Airfoil, you can now send any audio right through your AirPort Express. Use RealPlayer, Windows Media Player, Safari, and almost any other application with your AirPort Express. Using Airfoil you can also send audio from widgets and radios like the RadioSHARK, and tweak the audio with Airfoil's built-in effects.
Airfoil also adds the fantastic ability to send audio to multiple AirPort Express units at once. It's now possible to send audio all around your house right from your computer. Don't spend thousands of dollars on expensive solutions to get your audio throughout your home. "Wire" your whole house wirelessly, using AirPort Express units, and give your audio wings with Airfoil."

Trying to use Oracle Locator for latitude and longitude proximity searches
I am prototyping using Oracle Locator to do proximity searches and other spatial operations within the database in our software products. I’ve got it working fine in SQL Server, where geodetic is built in as well as geometric features, but with Oracle we’re trying to restrict ourselves to the Locator features so our customers are forced to buy the add-on. I am getting perplexing results, as you can see if you run the little test program I wrote.
I am using lat and long as the point coordinates. I am inserting the data using
SDO_GEOMETRY(2001, 4326, SDO_POINT_TYPE(?, ?, null), null, null
Then I am doing the search with
SELECT pointname, SDO_NN_DISTANCE (1) distance_in_miles
FROM geotest g
WHERE SDO_NN(g.geopoint, sdo_geometry(2001, 4326, SDO_POINT_TYPE(38.683, 123.083, NULL), NULL, NULL), 'distance=1000 unit=mile', 1) = 'TRUE'
ORDER BY distance_in_miles
I am getting distances from 56 to 86 units, whatever the units are.
Am I attempting the impossible with Locator, to use lat and long and then expect the sdo_nn function to work in miles?
Select results:

It works...but the knobs need to be turned in the right order...
You may have done this already...but here is what we have...
a. we create our table containing the location sdo_geometry column ..( in our case the column is called location )
b.We loaded the data..If you elected to use a partitioned table for your spatial data and created the corresponding spatial index as local...your sql will need to account for that.if your index is global ..don't worry about it
c. We inserted the metadata...this needs to be done once per table...by either the dba or the schema owner...
INSERT INTO USER_SDO_GEOM_METADATA (TABLE_NAME, COLUMN_NAME, DIMINFO, SRID)
VALUES ('<YOUR TABLE NAME>', '<SPATIAL COLUMN NAME>',
MDSYS.SDO_DIM_ARRAY
(MDSYS.SDO_DIM_ELEMENT('LONGITUDE', -180.0, 180.0, 0.5),
MDSYS.SDO_DIM_ELEMENT('LATITUDE', -90.0, 90.0, 0.5)
8307);
COMMIT;
If this is not done before the spatial index is created...stuff won't work...
d. create your spatial index
e. our query looked something like this...( I changed the table names )
This returns the top 30 results sorted by distance in feet...
SELECT LOCATION_KEY,
result_center_distance
FROM
SELECT LOCATION_KEY,
SDO_NN_DISTANCE(1) result_center_distance
FROM LOCATION_OWNER.D_LOCATION dlocation
WHERE SDO_NN(dlocation.LOCATION,
MDSYS.SDO_GEOMETRY(2001,8307,MDSYS.SDO_POINT_TYPE(-97.07845,33.138006,null),null,null), 'SDO_NUM_RES=31 unit=FOOT distance=5800.0 SDO_MAX_MEMORY=50000000', 1) = 'TRUE'
ORDER BY 2
WHERE ROWNUM <= 31
We had to use this structure because our index is local...and sdo_nn will return the sdo_num_res results for each partition...so you need to get the results first..then treat it as a top-n query...
If you index is global...this should work
SELECT LOCATION_KEY,
SDO_NN_DISTANCE(1) result_center_distance
FROM LOCATION_OWNER.D_LOCATION dlocation
WHERE SDO_NN(dlocation.LOCATION,
MDSYS.SDO_GEOMETRY(2001,8307,MDSYS.SDO_POINT_TYPE(-97.07845,33.138006,null),null,null), 'SDO_NUM_RES=31 unit=FOOT distance=5800.0 SDO_MAX_MEMORY=50000000', 1) = 'TRUE'
ORDER BY 2
If you want the distance in MILE...replace FOOT by MILE...
good luck...

Installing a VB application using Oracle Provider for OLEDB
Hi all,
I have a corporate VB application that uses the Oracle 9i client.
The Oracle Client is on a network disk, so all my clients will not need to install on their client machines.
I am using Wise for Windows Installer to install the application on each client machine.
I need to include on the installation package the "Oracle Provider for OLEDB" files.
How can I do this?
Thank you all,
Ardates Cruz.The standard way to use the unmanaged Oracle.DataAccess is to install an Oracle client on any machine that wants to use the application.
It is possible to avoid that installation by including a bunch of DLLs and some other files in the application, but it's far more cumbersome than using the managed client. Here's a link to get you started on that: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/13721025/deploying-and-configuring-odp-net-to-work-without-installation-with-entity-frame -

Only 10.2.0.4 or 10.2.0.5 can be used as the Oracle database HS kernel requires a gateway compatibility patch and this patch is included in 10.2.0.4 or 10.2.0.5 Oracle database patch set.
Then another error in the trace is that for each column description you have an error:
hgopoer, line 233: got native error 0 and sqlstate HY091; message follows...
[Microsoft][ODBC Visual FoxPro Driver]*Descriptor type out of range* {HY091}
Exiting hgopoer, rc=0 at 2012/05/31-13:11:28
hgodscr, line 615: calling SQLColAttribute got sqlstate HY091
It seems it is not critical as DG4ODBC continues, but a more detailed analysis would require an ODBC trace.
When looking at the table description it seems the column names are all in lower letters, for example: solar. So commonly Dg4ODBC needs to quote the names

and according to the trace the FoxPro ODBC driver doesn't like these quotes and reports a syntax error.
So this explains at least why select codcen from centros@fox1 will fail. In general the Oracle database is case insensitive and translates all object names to upper case and the select it will pass to the foreign database would be similar to:
select CODCEN from CENTROS => which will fail as FoxPro is case sensitive. So the error message ORA-00904 (missing column name) is correct and the statement you need to use is:
select "codcen" from centros@fox1;
But this might lead again to the Syntax error you got earlier => You need to check which sign (single quote, back tick, double quote) Foxpro uses to quote object names and then set the gateway parameter HS_FDS_QUOTE_IDENTIFIER accordingly.
To check which character can be used to quote column/table names you might use the Microsoft ODBc test utility which was distributed in the old MDAC 2.8:

thanks,
mohanHi,
EdStevens
Actually I was using SQL Developer. Sorry for the wrong define question. Now the real problem is:
I want to read or extract data in a txt file from Oracle Dump (.dmp) file without using Oracle sqlPlus or Oracle Database.
No need to say that i am able to extract dump data using sqlPlus. But for that, there is a little burden to install oracle database
or sql Developer.
I also listen about Oracle Loader a little bit. Is it a tool for providing extraction of data from Oracle dump file.
Thanks for your previous reply,
And now waiting for your suggestion.
thanks,
mohan
