Using Oracle pooling in 10.2 with ingres datasource
Hi;
I'm trying to use Oracle Pooling in 10.2 using OracleConnectionCacheManager class with ingres database.
I got the following exception:
java.sql.SQLException: Invalid Oracle URL specified
The URL i'm using is:
jdbc:edbc://HOST:TM7/DATABASE
When i'm using the same URL with Class.forname() it's working fine!
I don't know what i'm missing.
Any Help?
Thanks in advance.
yes we have a standalone version of 10g being converted to RAC mode..
old version
Oracle Database 10g Enterprise Edition Release 10.2.0.3.0 - 64bit Production
With the Partitioning, OLAP and Data Mining options
converted to
Oracle Database 10g Enterprise Edition Release 10.2.0.3.0 - 64bit Production
With the Partitioning, Real Application Clusters, OLAP and Data Mining options
i understand the binaries would be different, but are the libraries different too?

How to use Oracle Virtual Private Database (VPD) with EclipseLink JPA
My project required to use VPD in database to isolate data access based on different user type. How can I use EclipseLink JPA with VPD? For instance, how I could set up server context in database for each database session? Thanks for any help.
There is some information on Oracle proxy authentication here,
http://wiki.eclipse.org/EclipseLink/Examples/JPA/Oracle/Proxy
VPD usage would be very similar.

Use Oracle Client 8.0.5 with 8.1.7 Server
Can I use the Oracle 8.0.5/8.0.6 Client with a Oracle 8.1.7
Server?Andre,
You can use the older version of the client, but you may not be
able to use/access the newer features of the 8.1.7 Server
(introduced since 8.0.5 of the Server). Also, the 8.0.5 client
was desupported on 01-MAY-2001, so there won't be any bug fixes
if you have problems.

Use Oracle BI Standard Edition One with multiple instances
Hi!
Our problem is that we have four resource instances (one for testing, and three with datas from different customers) and we do not know how to switch in Oracle BI Standard Edition One between them. For us it seems that is not possible.
Regards,
Balazs

2.2.1 Oracle BI Standard Edition One usage
You can install Oracle BI Standard Edition One on a machine with up to two CPUs, and it can serve from five to 50 users. Oracle Warehouse Builder can pull data from any source, but the target database is limited to the included Oracle Database. Oracle BI and Oracle BI Publisher data sources are limited to the included Oracle Database, exactly one other database, and as many flat file data sources (for example, spreadsheets) as you require. -
Oracle IAS 10 install questions with ebs 11.5.10.2
We have a 11.5.10.2 installation that was installed a few years back
Our environment is
our small server hosts the forms server and the web server
our big server hosts admin node, concurrent manager and database
both of our above servers have IAS_ORACLE_HOME version 4
we have to upgrade this IAS_ORACLE_HOME to version 10
we are following the documents below
233436.1 Installing Oracle Application Server 10g with Oracle E-Business Suite Release 11i [ID 233436.1]
261914.1 Integrating Oracle E-Business Suite Release 11i with Oracle Internet Directory and Oracle Single Sign-On [ID 261914.1]
313418.1 Using Oracle Discoverer 10.1.2 with Oracle E-Business Suite Release 11i
a) Do we need to configure IAS_ORACLE_HOME on both the above servers ?
It seems that Apps server 10g requires a separate Oracle Instance to store
the metadata repository as mentioned below
The Oracle Application Server 10g Infrastructure must not be
installed in the Oracle E-Business Suite Release 11i database.
For more details, see Oracle MetaLink Note 251627.1,
"Installing an Oracle Application Server Metadata Repository
with an Oracle E-Business Suite Database."
So in case we need to install IAS_ORACLE_HOME on both servers do we need
to create two instances for the Application Server Metadata Repository
or do we have an option ?
Thanks for helpingGuys ,
Check out the following link

Check out the section called Business intelligence
if you expand the + sign it shows
Included:

* Oracle HTTP Server
* Oracle Application Server Containers for J2EE (OC4J)
* Oracle Enterprise Manager 10g Application Server Control
* Oracle Application Server Web Cache
* Oracle Application Server Reports Services
Since I have Suse Enterprise Linux 9 and I do not have a server available
which I can use exclusively
I cannot choose the version 11 of BIS since it required SLES 10
Hence I have chosen the linux version of the BIS
the files for linux
as_linux_x86_bi_101202_disk1.cpio
as_linux_x86_bi_101202_disk2.cpio
Read
document 313418.1 section 1.3 and also the NOTE in the next section
The document 313418.1 1.3 NOTE section clearly states that if we need only Discoverer plus and Discoverer Viewer I can install the bi components as I explained above.

Can we use oracle database Instead of Cloudspace?

If possible can you please send me the example

Prasen,
Could you tell me what specifically should I use for Oracle database instead of
jdbc:cloudscape:rmi:CloudscapeDB;create=true.
Can I use jdbc:weblogic:oracle for jdbc:cloudscape:Commerce? I am not familiar with
Cloidscape URLs and drivers.
Thanks,

¿Does a 11g Oracle Client (64-Bit) Work With a 10g Server?
Hello, good afternoon!!!
I have a question: ¿Is it OK to use Oracle 11g Client (64-Bit) with a Oracle 10g Server?
Thank you so much!!!Hello...
Information:_

Thank you so much for your help!!! -
Problem using oracle.dataaccess.dll
Hi,
I have an web application which uses Oracle.DataAccess.dll to communicate with and Oracle db. The web application deployed on 32 bit windows system works but not on windows server 2008 64 bit. I installed 10204_vista_win2k8_x64_production_db package, referenced the installed dll (version 2.102.4.0) from the project but I get the following error:
Could not load file or assembly 'Oracle.DataAccess, Version=2.102.4.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=89b483f429c47342' or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified.
Any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance.I had this problem too.
I have not found any way to get ODP to work on a 64 bit machine. I have gone through more than 30 permutations of install combinations and all have their problems.
Your's is one I remember.
The error message does not give a good description of the problem. It CAN find it, but it can't load it.
The main problem in my opinion is that Visual Studio is a 32 bit app and so are its tools. MS will say that is no big deal because they don't want to rewrite native code sooner than they have too. It is going to stay that way for 2010. Visual Studio is going to load a .dll to connect to Oracle in server explorer and in any datasets you have created with the designer...its going to use a 32 bit .dll now your application wants a 64bit .dll... see the problem? I beleive that when you install the ODP registry settings are made for viual studios sake, but I don't know what happens under the hood.
Does visual studio give you any option at all to choose what assemblies to use for the IDE tools? nope
I have tried 32 bit client, 64 bit client, ODACwithODP and every combination of them in every version oracle offers on their download site. Nothing worked 100%.
I got
1) "cannot load file x" when x is at the specified path
2) BadImageFormat exception
3) App worked but visual studio tools crashed the IDE
4) installed all 3, but used the old system.data.oracleclient and tools worked sluggish or crashed.
You can also combine the problem of Oracle provider along with the fact that 1/2 of Visual Studio's tools don't care about 64 bit programming. For example, I made a wcf service that as going to access my database. Well, guess what you can't use Visual Studio's WCF debugger because WcfSvcost.exe is 32 bit. Will it give you an informative error message? nope. Just a BadImageFormat Exception with no clue which file is causing the problem. spent a week of precious time on that one and thought it was an oracle provider issue.
I have given up using ODP for now and am forced to use (4) System.Data.OracleClient just for the sake of getting any coding done at all instead of hacking my environment. It sucks. I got that working by installing 11r2 64 bit client in one home and 11r2 64bit client in another, then ODP in a 3rd. That way I can still use more friendly tools made for Oracle and let VS use the 32 bit client with the old System.Data.OracleClient dll.
If anyone has the magic step but step to get both a working IDE with its tools remaining functional along with a working application on Windows 7 64bit, than please please let me know! -
Workaround for using Oracle JDBC extension with WLS pooling
Reading the newsgroup I saw that many of us encountered the problems
with ClassCastException when tried to use Oracle JDBC extension
with WLS pooling. I also had.
In this case BEA recommends to use dangerous
method getVendorConnection() which exposes
the physical connection object to your code.
Yes it's really dangerous because of unsafe usage may breaks
WLS pooled connection(s).
Moreover, this practice will make your JDBC code
unportable (your JDBC code in addition to Oracle dependence
became Weblogic dependent):
void doSmth() {
Connection con = ...;
Connection vCon = ((WLConnection)con).getVendorConnection();
// + mess of usage con in one places and vCon in others
// (where Oracle extensions are needed)
// !Don't forget to don't close vCon!
Sux.
I found the workaround.
Introduction
============
Yes the real cause of ClassCastException is that
in depth of Oracle driver the casting
to class oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleConnection
(not to interface oracle.jdbc.OracleConnection)
is performed.
Someone can say that this is bug or pure desing.
Weblogic pooled connection provide dynamic
implementation for all public interfaces
which real physical (wrapped) connection object implements.
Great feature!
But I guess that all interface methods implemented
by simple call-delegation to physical (wrapped) connection object.
In case of oracle.jdbc.OracleConnection interface
this approach doesn't work for at least one its method:
public OracleConnection unwrap()
WLS pooled connection shoudn't implement this method by
delegation to physical connection object BUT should
return physical connection object itself!
// Wrong implementation of unwrap()
// delegation is used
public OracleConnection unwrap() {
return physicalConnection.unwrap();
// Right implementation of unwrap()
// physical connection returned
public OracleConnection unwrap() {
return physicalConnection;
Workaround
==========
1. Develop your own OracleConnection wrapper class:
import oracle.jdbc.OracleConnection;
import weblogic.jdbc.extensions.WLConnection;
public class MyOracleConnectionImpl implements OracleConnection {
private OracleConnection con;
public MyOracleConnectionImpl(OracleConnection connection)
throws SQLException
this.con = connection;
public OracleConnection unwrap() {
return (OracleConnection)
((WLConnection)con).getVendorConnection();
/* Implement all other methods by delegation to con object */
2. Don't get Connections directly from DataSource --
develop your own simple (may be static) utility
class which retrives Connections from dataSource
and returns them wrapped into your MyOracleConnectionImpl
to your code from some method:
puclic abstract class MyConnectionSource {
public static Connection getConnection() {
Connection con = // get it from DataSource
return new MyOracleConnectionImpl((OracleConnection)con);
3. Add attribute RemoveInfectedConnectionsEnabled="false"
to definition of your JDBCConnectionPool within config.xml
You may do it because of you `safely` use vendorConnection --
you don't expose it to application code.
4. Enjoy the Oracle JDBC extensions in your code!
Example:
Connection con = MyConnectionSource.getConnection;
ArrayDescriptor add =
ArrayDescriptor.createDescriptor("your_type", con);
Hope it helps to someone.
Best regards,
Eugene VoytitskyHello Eugene Voytitsky,
Thanks Eugene Voytitsky for your idea
I have tried the solution suggested by You, but it did not work.
It still throws ClassCastException.
I am sorry for posting the whole code of two classes below.
I did this to give you more clarity.
I am also indicating the place where the exception was thrown..
Please let me know if I am doing something wrong.

Error in creating Connection Pool using Oracle Thin Driver
Hi,
I am trying to create a connection pool in WS 5.1 with sp #6 using Oracle Thin Driver (oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver) on a Sun box. But I am able to create the pool using weblogic.jdbc.oci.Driver. I get an DBMS Driver exception when I use thin driver. I have LD library path and weblogic class path set correctly. WL shows the following exception :
weblogic.common.ResourceException: weblogic.common.ResourceException:
Could not create pool connection. The DBMS driver exception was:
java.sql.SQLException: Io exception: The Network Adapter could not establish the
connection

Any help on this is greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
RamuHi Ramu,
Please post your connection pool setting here. You might have missed some
port/server info. The driver is unable to connect to the db server here.

Yes. I am trying to create a connection pool in weblogic and I have theweblogic
class path setup correctly. It points to classes111.zip andnls_charset11.zip.

Did you setup the JDBC library classpath correctly?
For me, e.g. Oracle 7.3.4, the classpath should be:
export CLASSPATH = /oracle7.3.4/jdbc/lib/classes.zip:%CLASSPATH%
Noted that the JDBC classpath must be the first classpath element in
the export
statement.

Strange behaviour when using connection pooling with proxy authentication
All
I have developed an ASP.NET 1.1 Web application that uses ODP.NET 9.2.0.4 accessing Oracle Database 8i (which is to be upgraded to 10g in the coming months). I have enabled connection pooling and implemented proxy authentication.
I am observing a strange behaviour in the live environment. If two users (User 1 and User 2) are executing SQL statements at the same time (concurrent threads in IIS), the following is occurring:
* User 1 opens a new connection, executes a SELECT statement, and closes this connection. The audit log, which uses the USER function, shows User 1 executed this statement.
* User 2 opens the same connection (before it is released to the connection pool?), excutes an INSERT statement, and closes this connection. The audit log shows User 1, not User 2, executed this statement.
Is this a known issue when using connection pooling with proxy authentication? I appreciate your help.
Regards,
ChrisHi Chris,
I tried to reproduce your complaint, but was unable to. I didnt use auditting however, just a series of "select user from dual" with proxy authentication. You might want to see if you can put together a small complete testcase for this and open a sr with support.
Cheers
Greg
