Using presentation dimensions

Hello.
In my application i use one presentation? but it's data must be different for different users. So i'm going to create selections programmatically.
But i have a problem - i use
MDDimension[] mdDimensions = firstMeasure.getDimensions();
method for getting dimensions which associated with firstMeasure. I think that it returns all dimensions but i use only one dimension from this list. So when i put my code (with selections) my presentation contains 4 dimensions instead 1. How can i use only those dimensions which defined in my presentation?

You do not say which version of the database and which version of BI Beans you are using. I have seen this issue before and the solution was to convert the source keys that map to dimension members from NUMBER to VARCHAR2. This resolved the issue for me. However, my understanding was this issue was resolved in the latest OLAP patchsets, 9206 and 10.1.0.4.
If you already have applied either of these patchsets then I would recommend opening a TAR with Oracle Support.

Hi,
I have 4 measures say A,B,C,D , a period dimension and branch name dimension. I would like to select the measure in the prompt and the result should display rank for the selected measure using presentation variables. For eg: If measure-A is selected, the result should be arranged in order by based on "A".
Is it possible to sort the columns dynamically?

That declares a two-dimensional 5 by 5 array with integer elements. All elements are initially 0.

Use one dimension to feed 2 other dimensions

Is there a way to use one dimension to push data into two other dimensions using push logic? The client has one dimension in App1 that is a combination of 2 dimensions in App2 ie the Costcenter dimension in App1 is a combination of Plant and Account in App2.
Now they want to push data from App1 into App2 using the Costcenter dimension to populate the Plant and Account.
I have Plant and Acct properties in the Costcenter dimension for mapping.
I tried to use *Rename_dim CC= CC.Plant and *Rename_dim CC=CC.Acct but would get errors when validating the logic script.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

When I test the logic using the logic debugger, I get the error:

When I run the logic thru data manager, the package is successful but the end of the detail status log is 'No records to process'

Issue in using presentation variable as filter condition in the reports

I have an issue in using presentation variable as filter condition in my reports the details are as follows:
Details :
We want to implement the Max and Min variables through Presentation variables only.we do not want to implement it through session variables in this case.
We have two variables MIN and MAX to be used as Presentation Variables,for a column of the report (which is a quantity),so that the user wants to see the data for this column within a particular range.i.e the Min and the Max.This part has been implemented well . The issue is when the user wants to see the full data.In that case we will not pass any values to these two Presentation Variable or in other words we are not restricting the report data so we are not passing any value to the variables,this is when the report is throwing the error. we want to leave this variables blank in that case.but this is giving error.
Please suggest how can I overcome this issue.

i think you have to use guided navigation for this. create two reports first is the one you are having currently and second is the one in which remove the presentation variable from the column formula. i.e. the same report with no aggregation applied.
Now create a dummy report and make it return value only when the presentation variable value is not equal to max or min. guide the report to navigate between the first and second report based on the result of the dummy report.

How to pass the values to stored proc using presentation variable in OBIEE

Need your help regarding in resolving an issue in OBIEE 10.1.3.4.1
There are 6 reports say ‘A’,’B’,’C’,’D’,’E’,’F’ in the same subject area.
The reports are being configured with prompts using either the repository/presentation variables.
One of the reports say ‘A’ has been configured to pass the values using presentation variables from the prompt in Advanced Tab of the report request to the stored procedure defined in the Execute Before Query section of the connection pool.
After running another report ‘B’ in the same subject area, upon visiting the report ‘A’ view display error is being seen ( Please have a look below screen shot for your reference) .
Speculate the issue is around presentation variables of report ‘A’ getting initialized even before running the report.
Appreciate your earliest advise as this is a prod issue.

I got your note, you should not use Session variable syntax to call presentation variable.
you should use like @{AIC_PROJ_PLAT_SEQ_NO}
One more thing: first test the variable AIC_PROJ_PLAT_SEQ_NO value then try to pass to SP.

Unable to pass the values to stored proc using presentation variable in OBI

Hi All,
Need your help regarding in resolving an issue in OBIEE 10.1.3.4.1
There is an OBIEE requirement whereby two prompts need to be defined.
1. Textbox prompt
2. Drop-down prompt
The dropdown values should be populated using textbox prompt. So, we have used presentation variable in textbox prompt and passing the same to select query of drop-down.
Until this step, the report works just fine.
Now, the value in both textbox and drop-down needs to be passed to stored proc.
While trying to pass the values by using the presentation variable, the following error comes-up saying
Session variable has no value definition.
Note:Although the corresponding session variable has been set to default value,still the error appears.
Please advise.

Having trouble recording a video using Presenter 9, inside PoswerPoint installed as part of MS Office 10, PP version is 14...

The Presenter add in opens up just fine. I can do most everything with the Presenter tool bar, including recording and publishing audio for the slides, but I get an error message when trying to use the "Video" recording function. I have a screen shot of the error message if that would help, But is basically says the "Application encountered and internal Error. If the error persists, contact someone." Adobe support is useless on this issue. Does anyone have any ideas?
I DO NOT have two monitors set up and the button labeled "Use Presenter View" is unchecked.

Check that your video drivers are up to date.

#Error & #Syntax when we are using merged dimension in BO4.1 SP3

Dear All,
We are using BO4.1 SP3 and Bex query as datasource.
When we are trying to take merged dimensions in Report block its giving #Syntax Error.
When we are defining variable with merged dimension, its giving #Error message and the merged dimension is deleted from the definition.
Please guide how can I use merged dimension.
Kindly let us know if there are some update required in the current BO version.

First things abt merge dimension is that merge is applicable only on dimension not on measures.
And other is dimension that are going to be merge should have same data type.
I think you should check these conditions then it will works.
Merge is nothing but full outer join between two data providers. It helps joining two result sets on webi level.
Kindly attach your screen shots so that it would be helpful.

Dual Display using "Presenter View" as in MS PowerPoint

I have a T410 type 2522-A92 and want to present slides on a projector screen while on my laptop monitor I can see the slide and my notes. I have so fare been unsuccessful in doing this. Is my laptop model not equiped for this task and if so, is there any way I can put this right.

I’m sorry to hear that you had trouble using extended display in your Lenovo ThinkPad T410.
For using PowerPoint in Presenter Mode, the extended desktop feature must be enabled for this mode to function. Press FN+F7 to switch to extended display mode.
In PowerPoint, go to the Slideshow menu and click "Set up show”.
Click on the Presenter Mode or Show Presenter View.
After doing this and starting the slide show, the slide will appear on the second monitor (the projection screen) and the laptop screen can be used to access something in private.
Refer here for further information on how to configure PowerPoint to use presenter view with two monitors.

Use of Dimensions in APO DP Planning Object Structures

In APO DP Planning Objct Structures, I know that it's possible to assign Dimensions to characteristics.
The standard help documentation suggests this is 'to improve performance'.
Can anyone give practical guidance about how to assign Dimensions to improve performance?

the characterisitcs are grouped logically using the Dimensions
the use of dimensions allows data to be stored in a combination of dimension tables and fact tables
the dimention table consists of the dimension number, a primary key characteristics you assign to the dimension
the primary keys from various dimension tables link up at the fact table and to the values stored in it
so you can think of a star schema of tables with the dimension acting as the link
so when you look for a particular value the dimension table is first quesried based on which the fact table the primary key is linked to is looked up
in order to improve performance, make sure you dont assign too many characterisitics to one dimension
try to logically group the characterisitics - geography for eg can be made of state, region (not material type)
you can also try to match the dimension with the selections you will be using in the planning book,
dimension tables could grow as your characteristic values increase so SAP advices you keep an eye on it (i am not sure of how functionally you can help this but i believe basis will be able to help you with allocating space on an oversized table)
there is a document somewhere in sap marketplace that i am not able to find a link... hopefully someone will link it up here

Using a Dimension/ Measure in a Where clause of Another Dimension/ Measure in IDT

I am building a Universe using Information Design Tool. In the Business Layer, I need to use a created Business Layer Dimension (not Tables) in a Where clause of another dimension as follow:
Dimension: "Current Week No"
     SELECT
          budgets.dbo.Calenderweeks.WeekNo
     WHERE
          budgets.dbo.Calenderweeks.EndDate = convert(SMALLDATETIME, fn CURDATE()})
Dimension: "Last Week No"
     SELECT
          budgets.dbo.Calenderweeks.WeekNo
     WHERE
          budget.dbo.Calenderweeks .WeekNo = @Select(Dimension\Current Week No) - 1
The first dimension is working well. However, the "Last Week No" shows NOTHING (I do not get any value)
Anyone can explain why I am not get any value from the second dimension, and how I can use a Dimension/ Measure in a Where clause of another Dimension/ Measure ?

Short answer:
Beware of object WHERE clauses. They are rarely (I'd almost say never) the solution to the problem you're trying to solve.
Long answer:
It doesn't work because you are inadvertently filtering the same value twice in two incompatible ways in the same SQL statement. Both objects SELECT the same column in the database. The first object uses a WHERE clause to set it to the current week. The second object attempts to use a WHERE clause to set it to the previous week, but does so by selecting the first object, so you end up with both objects in your data provider.
Remember that BO is going to place all the objects in your data provider in the same SQL (except of course where your context definition has ensured otherwise.), so you have two WHERE clauses in your generated SQL which attempt to find a line equal both the current week and the previous week... and returns, naturally, no results.
Rewrite it with a derived table (as explained in the response above) and you'll get what you want.

Using time dimension in materialized view

Do anybody has an example of using Time dimension in MVIEW?. The time tablke has no relation with oder object (ex. i will join the time table with sales table, which has no relation with each other.
