Using ${something} expressions in jsp

hello,
i'm writing a small web application using struts, hibernate, tomcat, my problem is that expressions ${some_formbean_property} written in jsp stay in html code to, they should be replaced with value of the property, what i have to do to fix it??
thanks a lot

In a JSP2.0 container, ${expr} is a runtime expression.
if you use tomcat 5, and declare your web.xml as version 2.4, you can use ${expr} anywhere that you can use <%= expr %>
So you can use it anywhere in template text, and also as an attribute to any tag that takes a runtime expression.

    Can i use logic exprees on a mac mini for recording? Ive seen alot of 8,12, and 16 track recorders with a cd burner and it seems like a logical and more productive gues for me to buy a macmini for the same thing of recording and then I can uses logic express, a far better program for recording. can the mac mini handle the load of processing tracks and how much ram should I uses? thanks tim

    sorry, I'd like to butt in here:
    I would like to do the same thing, so I am curious about this forum and rather than starting a new one, can I get some advice on this possibility:
    Mac Mini
    1.83GHz Intel Core Duo
    2GB 667 DDR2 SDRAM - 2x1GB
    80GB Serial ATA drive
    Glyph External HD 250 Gig
    Mackie Onyx 1620 w/Firewire
    Logic Pro 7.2
    thoughts?
    The most number of tracks I could see at once would be 16.
    Here is something I am most curious about...
    Firewire Hard drive
    Firewire Interface/mixer
    Firewire camera for FCP
    to much firewire?
    Please let me know if you have other thoughts aswell...

  • Can i use Boolean Expressions in Mail Rules?

    Can i use Boolean Expressions in Mail Rules?
    I need to create a rule to check whether a message contains BOTH a first and last name of EITHER of two people.
    For example, the rule im looking to create goes something like this:
    If ANY of the following conditions are met:
    message content - contains - john & doe
    message content - contains - jane & doe
    ive tried and cant seem to get it to work...
    Message was edited by: mysterioso

    AFAIK Mail rules do not support boolean expressions.
    to do what you want you'd have to create two rules
    rule 1
    if ALL of the following conditions are met
    message content - contains - john
    message content - contains - jdoe
    and similarly for rule 2.

  • How to use enviroment variables in JSP code?

    Im developing a web server with JSPs, and I need to move the application to others computers. I need to access to a directory, but I dont know it because the user can install the Application in the directory he wants. So I need to access to that directory in the JSP code.
    The directory is "C:\Program Files\....\tomcat\webapps\ROOT\upload". I have the CATALINA_HOME enviroment variable defiened as "C:\Program Files\....\tomcat\", so I need to use something like "CATALINAHOME\\webapps\upload\", but I dont know how to mekr the JSP code to understand the enviroment variable CATALINA_HOME.
    Ive tried with %CATALINA_HOME%, but the Tomcat server doesnt recognize it. How can I access to that directory?
    Thanks (Sorry about my english)

    My JSPs are in: %CATALINA_HOME%\webapps\ROOT\
    I want to access to %CATALINA_HOME%\webapps\ROOT\upload\
    My JSP code:
    <% ...
    String DPATH = "C:\\Program Files\\JBuilder7\\jakarta-tomcat-4.0.3\\webapps\\ROOT\\upload\\";
    File newfile = null;
    newfile = new File(DPATH+filename);
    %>
    I want the JSP to locate the directory \webapps\ROOT\upload\ without knowing the complete route "c:\Program Files\...", because I have the enviroment variable CATALINA_HOME with the value "C:\Program Files\JBuilder7\jakarta-tomcat-4.0.3\". SO the user of the aplication only has to set the CATALINA_HOME variable and the aplication should access the upload directory throught the CATALINA_HOME variable.
    I cant explain it better. Sorry.

  • How to use connection pool in jsp/servlet ?

    I found I can "lookup" it in either java beans/servlets/JSP using JNDI. why?
    what is the best practice to use it in a jsp/servlet web app considering JNDI lookuping expensive?
    Thanks!

    Huh?
    You can lookup a JNDI resource from anywhere in java code you want to. As long as you have a repository set up to search on :-)
    Of course whether that resource is available or not is a different matter. If you let the server set up the JNDI resource for you, then you can't run it standalone outside the server without something else setting the same thing up :-)
    So its not so much a limitation of beans, but just the environment you run the code in.
    Best practice? Don't write sql queries in JSP pages :-)
    For the rest you might consider the DAO pattern. Or ignore SQL altogether and let hibernate do the work there for you.

  • Using Crystal reports in JSP

    Hi,
    I want to use Crystal report in jsp . I am running the jsp files in tomcat apache4.0 server.
    while executing the jsp files in tomcat , following class files are not being found:
    import="com.crystaldecisions.sdk.occa.report.application.*,
    com.crystaldecisions.sdk.occa.report.data.*,
    com.crystaldecisions.sdk.occa.report.lib.*
    can anyone plz tell where to get the required JAR file containing this classes or how to use crystal report in jsp.
    Regards,
    tommy

    The jars should be in your installed Crystal Reports folder( \Crystal Decisions\..\java\lib or something like that...). The problem is that your server (Tomcat and others) ignores the system classpath completely (it sets its own in its startup script).
    Therefore, in order for Tomcat to find the jars, those jars have to be placed in in %CATALINA_HOME%\common\lib\. There, they will be available for all your applications. If you don't want them available globally, put them in your particular webapp's WEB-INF\lib directory.

  • More than one user "using an expression" in a BPM Task

    Hello,
    I want to send a notification step for multiple users. I see two options
    1. Choose one or more UME principals.
    2. Use an expression.
    However I have to send the notification for more than one user using an expression. I'm using this expression,
    getPrincipal(DO_xyz)
    but this only works for one user. I need something like this
    getPrincipal(DO_xyz);  getPrincipal(DO_xyz2);  getPrincipal(DO_xyz3)
    But this is not possible. I can't use a group because all this information is dynamic and it's born within the process.
    Please, How can I solve this?
    Best Regards
    SU

    Hello Abhijeet,
    I've seen that I can use the getPrincipals adding in the XSD an string with 1..* cardinality. However I don't know how to map an attribute from the UITask to that new attribute in the XSD because in Web Dynpro I can't create an string with cardinality 1..*
    I've tried to create a node (1..*) with a String inside in the UI but I couldn't map it to the process context, it shows me an error that I cannot map a node to a String.
    Thanks
    Regards
    SU

  • HT4587 what about set up apple tv using airport express base without WIFI connection

    How to set up Apple tv on my tv using airport express base without internet connection

    In theory you can configure the AirPort Express to broadcast a Wi-Fi network that the Apple TV can connect to. The default configuration of the Express is to broadcast an unsecured Wi-Fi network with a Network Name of something like: Apple Network NNNNNN. You would then configure the Apple TV to connect to this network.

  • Using threads in a jsp page

    I would like to know wether any one had used threads in a jsp page
    like one thread gets the data from database while other shows some text saying "getting data from database"
    Thank you

    "getting data from database" is not a valid message
    to give. You might think it's interesting, but the
    people using your application don't give a damn about
    you fetching something from the database.
    The basic rule is: people are stupid, don't give them
    any reason to be confused.Funny stuff, Ill remember that :-)

  • Using JSTL variables in JSP or Javascript. Possible ?

    Hi All,
    Is it possible to share or use the variables which are declared are used by JSTL in JSP expression or scriplet code and in Java Script.
    Example:
    This Works:
    <fmt:set var="test" value="JSTL" />
    <fmt:out value="${test}" />
    But, this gives error:
    <% out.println(test) %>
    And passing the value of variable 'test' to Java Script code also gives error.
    How to use JSTL variables in JSP and in Javascript ?
    Yours,
    Sankar.B

    By default, JSTL variables are kept in servlet
    attributes. Default is to store it in the page
    context. You can make it request/session/application
    scope as required by an attribute of the set tag.Hi there,
    Can anyone advise how to access JSP variables in JSTL?
    Can it be done as the same method through request/session/application scope?
    Thnks...

  • Using regular expressions for validating time fields

    Similar to my problem with converting a big chunk of validation into smaller chunks of functions I am trying to use Regular Expressions to handle the validation of many, many time fields in a flexible working time sheet.
    I have a set of FormCalc scripts to calculate the various values for days, hours and the gain/loss of hours over a four week period. For these scripts to work the time format must be in HH:MM.
    Accessibility guidelines nix any use of message box pop ups so I wanted to get around this by having a hidden/visible field with warning text but can't get it to work.
    So far I have:
    var r = new RegExp(); // Create a new Regular Expression Object
    r.compile ("^[00-99]:\\] + [00-59]");
    var result = r.test(this.rawValue);
    if (result == true){
    true;
    form1.flow.page.parent.part2.part2body.errorMessage.presence = "visible";
    else (result == false){
    false;
    form1.flow.page.parent.part2.part2body.errorMessage.presence = "hidden";
    Any help would be appreciated!

    Date and time fields are tricky because you have to consider the formattedValue versus the rawValue. If I am going to use regular expressions to do validation I find it easier to make them text fields and ignore the time patterns (formattedValue). Something like this works (as far as my very brief testing goes) for 24 hour time where time format is HH:MM.
    // form1.page1.subform1.time_::exit - (JavaScript, client)
    var error = false;
    form1.page1.subform1.errorMsg.rawValue = "";
    if (!(this.isNull)) {
      var time_ = this.rawValue;
      if (time_.length != 5) {
        error = true;
      else {
        var regExp = /^([01]?[0-9]|2[0-3]):[0-5][0-9]$/;
        if (!(regExp.test(time_))) {
          error = true;
    if (error == true) {
      form1.page1.subform1.errorMsg.rawValue = "The time must be in the format HH:MM where HH is 00-23 and MM is 00-59.";
      form1.page1.subform1.errorMsg.presence = "visible";

  • About using cursor expressions in Oracle Reports

    I've just discovered a rather old syntax of the mighty select statement. It seems related to the concept of inline view or more precisely scalar view. It's the cursor syntax in a select statement.
    Example:
    select d.dname
    ,cursor(select e.empno,e.ename,sal
    from scott.emp e
    where e.deptno = d.deptno)
    from scott.dept d
    I have two questions:
    1) Performance: how is the performance of this select in comparison to standard join?
    2) Usage: I've use this from sqlplus and it's ok, but can't use it on a tool like Oracle Reports. Although the select statement is correctly processed, can't display it since the datatype is Database - Unknown ...
    It seems there´s no way to use cursor expressions at least if datasource is a SQL Query.
    Thanks in advance ....

    I think you have answered your own question: CURSOR is not something you can display.

  • Using Regular Expressions to replace Quotes in Strings

    I am writing a program that generates Java files and there are Strings that are used that contain Quotes. I want to use regular expressions to replace " with \" when it is written to the file. The code I was trying to use was:
    String temp = "\"Hello\" i am a \"variable\"";
    temp = temp.replaceAll("\"","\\\\\"");
    however, this does not work and when i print out the code to the file the resulting code appears as:
    String someVar = ""Hello" i am a "variable"";
    and not as:
    String someVar = "\"Hello\" i am a \"variable\"";
    I am assumming my regular expression is wrong. If it is, could someone explain to me how to fix it so that it will work?
    Thanks in advance.

    Thanks, appearently I'm just doing something weird that I just need to look at a little bit harder.

  • Using regular expressions to get a customized output

    Hi,
    I have a string/varchar variable with the data ',a,b,c,' in it.
    I want the display as follows:
    a
    b
    c
    I would like to get the similar output using regular expressions.
    How do I get this output using REGEXP_REPLACE or REGEXP_SUBSTR?
    Please do the needful.
    Thanks & Regards,
    Rakshit

    I remember that, however if we look closer, that one has a little flaw: The 2nd row should be null, because ",," indicates an empy field. The MODEL clause solution works just fine in this case:
    with t as (select 'aaaa,,bbbb,cccc,dddd,eeee,ffff' col1 from dual)
    -- end of sample data
    SELECT col_new
      FROM t
    MODEL
       PARTITION BY (ROWNUM rn)
       DIMENSION BY (0 dim)
       MEASURES(col1, col1 col_new)
       RULES ITERATE(99) UNTIL (ITERATION_NUMBER = LENGTH(REGEXP_REPLACE(col1[0], '[^,]')))
                    (col_new[ITERATION_NUMBER] = REPLACE(REGEXP_SUBSTR(col1[0], '(^|,)[^,]*', 1, ITERATION_NUMBER+1), ','))
    COL_NEW
    aaaa
    bbbb
    cccc
    dddd
    eeee

    7 Zeilen ausgewählt.Update: I had this nagging feeling that I missed something, and there it was. If you want to see what the problem with my solution is, change the example to
    with t as (select ',aaaa,,bbbb,cccc,dddd,eeee,ffff' col1 from dual)So I went back and tried to fix BlueShadows approach. Here it is:
    with t as (select 'aaaa,,bbbb,cccc,dddd,eeee,ffff' txt from dual)
    -- end of sample data
    SELECT REPLACE(REGEXP_SUBSTR(',' || txt, ',[^,]*', 1, level), ',') col_new
      FROM t
      CONNECT BY level <= length(regexp_replace(txt,'[^,]*'))+1
