Using VB DLLs with Java on Windows

Hi! I have a dll in my windows which make a password encryption (ok, I know that Java can do it to, but my client wants to use THIS dlls...). I need to use a function from this dll, I need to give the dll a parameter and I expect a result from it, a String result.
I have no idea of how to do it, hope you can help me...!

actually, you have to go through the JNI nightmare before you can access libraries from the outside, and ActiveX dlls just won't work. I'm not 100% sure, but check in the Native Method section of this forum, and those guys there would know more about it.

Has anyone done this before? (using Win32 dll with Java)

I was wondering if anyone has succesfully completely embedded a Win32 DLL and having it launched in a Java backend using JNI? It would seem that WinMain() would be the barrier to doing this. I'm talking about containing the entire frontend inside a DLL and having it launched using a Java backend.

1. As far as I know, dll's don't have winmains.
2. Your wording is rather imprecise; how about getting rid of "frontend"and "backend", and asking your question again?
(The JNI features of java allow either C or java to be the "main program; C can call java, and java can call C.)

How to use the Rc4DLL.dll with java (jre1.4 )

I am not able to use Rc4DLL.dll with java, there are some characters (encrypted using Rc4DLL.dll) that java is not able to identify. So while decrypting in java using Rc4DLL I am not getting the desired output (as some character java tries to decrypt are not supported with java). Could some one give a solution of using Rc4DLL with java jre 1.4

RC4 cipher is supported by 1.4.

Possible to make a dll with java?

I am completely new to Java. Is it possible to create a Windows style DLL with Java? I am working with one project written in VB.NET which needs to access functions in another project written in Java. Can anybody help me figure out how to do this?

I'm not sure what you mean by what type of project. It contains numerous data analysis functions which I want to access from a VB.NET program. From what you've written, I must assume that Java cannot be used to create a DLL and my only option is to rewrite it in another language. Thank you for the info.

How to access vc dll with java

I need to access vc dll with java. Now I only have *.h,*.lib, *.dll,no *.cpp,because the dll is from others. I cann't modify the *.cpp files for java. so what should I do .

Create a JNI wrapper for rhe dll:
1)Create a java class that defines methods that correspond to the methds in the c++ dll
2)compile this, and compile it with the jni compiler to get the c++ header files.
3)Create a C++ file that implements the methods defined in the header file, calling the c++ code as necesssary and using the JNI helpess to translate parameters from java form to C++ from.
4)Perform any initialisation of th c++ dll by adding a DllMain() or equivalent under unix/linux
5)create a makefile to build a dll from the above, linking to your import (.lib) library
6)make sure both DLLs are with your java class files when you run the java app.

Problem with Java and Windows (Mainly Vista and UAC)

Hi all,
I am having a problem with a program that I've devoloped. The program itself is packaged as a jar and I plan to deploy it across multiple platforms eventually however right now i am only concerned about windows based systems. I have made an installer for a windows baised systems using NSIS to install the software files. I made the installer as I need several java packages to be installed so the program would work (JAI, J3D, JAI ImageIO) and I also require the program to have fileassociations on windows.
I know that this is not what java is about, however the majority of the users will be on windows baised systems so I've decided that OS specific installers is the best option.
During the process I have noticed that there are several key problem with java for this type of application!
The first issue that I have come across is getting file associations to work on java. As a .jar is not an excutable it is not possible to directly associate a filetype with it in java so to overcome this I currently run the program from a .bat files and also the program requires large memory so this also allows me to run the program with -xmx. The batch file that I use is :

Ok so all this appears to work fine and allows windows to have file associations and start the program and thats all works perfectly but this is a non-ideal solution. Has anyone got any advice on improving this?
The next problem that I have appears to be a problem with Vista and UAC (user access control). When a user installs the program and installs the program into the program files directory I found that the program did not work and kept saying that I did not have access to the files in the current directory. This is a problem as I read and write settings files during program execution.
On a Vista system UAC prevents file write operations into the Program Files directory unless the program has requested elevated status even if the user is a full administrator. The probem is that there appears to be no real way to achieve this under java that I'm aware of...
Has anyone else had this probem and has a suitable solution?
Any advice on these issues would realy be appricated.

Ok so i've kinda found a solution, its not ideal but its very good. I found this program called Elevate

This program allows you start java with a UAC dialog for high access using
Elevate java -jar myjar.jar
This then allows you to have full access using java... I guess it could be dangerous but it does the job.

Applet failed to load when visited using HTTPs protocol with Java 7

We have a java applet on our website which worked for ages. Then Java 7 came out, people installed it. When people with Java 7 visiting our website using HTTPS, the applet failed to load (ClassNotFoundException). The same site and the same applet, when visit using regular HTTP, it works fine.
People with previous version of Java (1.6.x) can see the applet using either HTTP or HTTPs with no problem.
Anything we can do on our side to resolve this problem for people with Java 7 and like to stay with HTTPS?
Googled and didn't see any relevant result. Any pointer would be much appreciated.

How to use Thread.sleep() with Java Berkeley Base API?

Hi,
I have explained the weird problem about the server was too busy to response to SSH but it continued to finish to run (Server not response when inserting millions of records using Java Base API
Even I tried to increase CachSize and renice Java program, but it did not work. So, I am thinking to set sleeping time for threads in Java Berkeley Base API (using “ps” command, there were 18 light weight processes created). My program did not implement transaction or concurrency because it simply creates (millions) databases records only. Is it possible and correct to do like this in the code:

How to use parameter file with java

Is it possible to use a parameter file with Java, and is there any class/method to make it easy to call and use these parameter from a text file, other than scanning the whole text file manually as we can do normally with visual basic/c++, so we can call the program with the parameter file, like java testing c:\\testing.ini

If I understand you correctly, you may be looking for a properties file. This is basically a text file that contains pairs of strings in the form:
parameter1=value1
parameter2=value2
parameter3=value3
...etc.
and the values are retrieved using the java.util.Properties class - see:

Use AcroPDf.dll with 64 bit

I am trying to display the pdf by adding Adobe Reader's COM component to my 64 bit application . But it throws error.
Is there any way I can use the AcroPDF.dll with 64 bit?

Those DLLs are only for 32bits.

JFrames withous status bar with "Java Applet Window" ?

I call a JFrame from JApplet. All my JFrames with a status bar where string "Java Applet Window" is showing. How can I creat JFrames without that status bar?

This shows as a security measure because your applet isn't "signed". Your applet must be signed in order for this to not show.

Problems in using Labview DLL with TestStand!

Hi,
I tried to put the VI's to create a TCP/IP Connection, read/write Data to it and close it inside a LabVIEW DLL and use these functions with TestStand.
The problem is to get access to the ConnectionID generated as TCP Network Refnum in LabVIEW.
I don't know how to specify the prototype entry for this Refnum in LabVIEW and how to read it with TestStand.
Another try to pass an ActiveXReference of SequenceContext and use the SetValIDispatch method to set a local variable (Type: ActiveXReference) to the returned ConnectionID of the TCPOpen.VI wasn't successful too.
It seems to me that the connectionID isn't a normal ActiveXReference.

Hi Sunny -
You should treat this parameter as a pointer to an int when calling the DLL from TestStand (or any language like C or C++). Note that you can't do anything with the value outside of LabVIEW since it only has meaning inside of LabVIEW. You can only pass it around for use in other VIs you call from TestStand.

Using OLE DB with C++ on Windows

I am trying to get this sample code (see below) to run.
Has anyone been successful in running this code (OleMR)?
I get An E_FAIL error from the pIDBInitialize->Initialize() statement in the OLEHandler.cpp file.
